Never ever again. I was promised my little job would be done for Thanksgiving for my 88 yo father AND MICHA THE OWNER PROMISED IT BE READY FOR DAD. Havent seen him for 30 years and A 11X14 frame was $600 but not enuf $ for the owner to care. Since then ive had 7 other pieces framed by another far less expensive place by framers who know how to keep a promise and know what the parts of a decent frame are. I ran a frame shop for 20+ yrs. If I could give Orion 6 stars, I would. I came to them needing three custom pieces framed for work--on a fairly tight timeline--and they absolutely nailed it. I had just come off a frustrating experience with another framing shop in SF, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But from the moment I walked into Orion, everything turned around. Micah was incredibly kind, thoughtful, and communicative throughout the process. He helped us frame a huge wallpaper mural, a beautiful custom linen pinboard, and a third piece--all of which turned out even better than I imagined. The quality of their work is top-tier, the turnaround was impressively fast, and the price (especially given the timeline and scale) was beyond reasonable. It's rare to find a business that delivers both high-end craftsmanship and such a warm, human touch. I felt genuinely taken care of and so appreciated Micah's care and attention to detail. A funny story... I met SF business owner of Orion Custom Framing on Polk St., Micah Ruiz, on-line through my friend Chad Castle of Castle Custom Framing in Los Angeles. I had recently relocated to the Bay Area from LA and was looking for a local framer. Chad had framed literally one half of the art and odditities in my LA apartment so he referred me to Micah. Turns out Chad had apprecited under Micah up here at his Mission Street store! So I IMMEDIATELY knew I could trust Micah. I went down to the Polk Street location and found it to have easy street parking. I went in and was greeted by Micah and staff whom all treated me like family RIGHT when I walked in the door. I brought him a pop-art styled Keith Richards painting I did and wanted a cool frame for it. It was very comforting to work with Micah! He took the time to go through prices and styles based on my budget and offered me a huge variety of options - from basic to intricate. I also brought a sample color of the wall color I was painting and pics of where on that wall the painting would be hung. He took the time to even give me an interior design consult based on light coming in and wall texture that would compliment the framed work in its environment! This alone made me feel very confident! With a pretty decent turnaround time, I went in to pick up the painting. I was awestruck when I was it framed within a beautiful glossy black which, when later mounted on my high wall, looked like a museum piece! We decided to go with all black as a dark purple would have not made the vibrant colors "pop" as much! I am returning tomorrow to get some of my family's work framed as well as a concept painting done that I did for The Phantom Menace. I am excited to work with Micah and staff again in his very creative and family-friendly business!
