Every weekend we try to hit…read moreup a new local coffee shop and on this morning it happened to be Caffè Nero in downtown Ambridge. This coffee shop is located on Merchant Street. Inside there are display cases filled with baked goods, plenty of tables, and a small, comfortable seating area. They also have some fun seating options, including stools shaped like bagels and donuts, which my kids enjoyed. Even though I went inside, I was not feeling my best, so my wife handled the ordering on this visit. She ended up choosing a hot Snickerdoodle latte for me, which was made with vanilla, honey, and cinnamon. The coffee ended up being quite good. The drink started with a pleasant sweetness and a prominent cinnamon flavor before the rich coffee notes emerged on the finish. Since the espresso still came through despite the flavorings, I suspect they use a fairly robust espresso blend. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our drinks, and the baked goods looked tempting as well. My wife and daughter had visited previously and enjoyed the food, which only gives me another reason to come back and try more of the menu.

Service: Been there twice and the waitstaff was very attentive and polite both times, no complaints. Haven't sat at the bar but it looks inviting. Food: Wasn't bad but wasn't exceptional. The menu has a lot of great offerings but nothing I have tried was on par with say, other German inspired establishments in the area. Both times the food was sort of cold as well. I think with some tweaks and tuning it'll be better than other places in the area. My only other complaints were that the seating, although rustic, is rickety and uncomfortable. They were playing TOP 40 country music which was also sort of weird for how the place looks inside. I am pretty easy to please and feel the place has a ton of potential, with the right improvements and some marketing they will be extremely busy as it's probably one of the most unique eating establishments in the area.

I ended up ordering a pizza at the counter and then sitting at a table but typically you would be sat by someone for a dine in meal. The garden goat looks like a salad on top of pizza and I loved every bite of it! The arugula is tossed in a lemon dressing and it is such a wonderful compliment to the rest of the pizza. I did order a side of marinara to dip my crust in - I like saucy food and this pizza comes with olive oil base instead of a sauce base. It was delicious all around! Their crust is thin and crisp from the wood fired oven. You can see their large oven from the counter or dining room depending on where you are sat. They also service gelato which looked good too but tiramisu is my weakness. Service was friendly and understanding once they realized I was there to dine in alone. Lots of people coming through ordering pizzas to go, but also lots of space to eat here with full service. We had Pizza Passports and got the two personal sized pizzas offered through those, one garlic rosemary and one margherita. The flavors in both were on point and I loved the little bit of char from the woodfired oven. We also ordered a large tossed salad, which was more than big enough for two people to share and came with two dressings, our server was also thoughtful enough to bring two plates. Finally we had to order some gelato upon seeing it when we walked in. We had one tiramisu and one coffee crunch flavor and although they weren't quite as rich in texture as some gelatos I've had, the texture was very good and the flavors were delicious. The vibes here are also very cool. Beautiful stained glass type art on the walls that seemed to refer to the Quakers, beautiful fairy lights hanging from the ceiling, and lots of black dog related artwork which made me smile. Service was attentive and helpful and this was just an all-around great visit.
