This was my first visit there, but I have found where I will go and where my family will go. Walking in, they were the nicest receptionists I have met in a long while - and at my age you see more doctors. Helpful and just pleasant. AND not flooded with 30 pages of paperwork so many places have you fill out. off topic for a minute - BUT WHY CAN'T IT BE SHARED SO YOU ARE NOT CONTINUALLY FILLING OUT THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER AND OVER....at any rate. I did not have a long wait...very impressive. The young lady that administered all the pretests before seeing Dr. Hefner was so great. She explained everything being done and why. Took time to talk to me and get everything down. Again, not a long wait for the doctor. HE WAS SO NICE. Came in, shook my hand and proceeded to cover everything I could even image for an exam. Because I am diabetic, over 65, and had cataract surgery a year ago, he covered a lot with me. Never felt rushed or pressured to hurry through. I have had a LOT of appointments with eye doctors since I stared with bad eyes in 4th grade....but I have to say this was by far the best experience with an office all the way around. My grandson and daughter will definitively use this office. AND ON A SIDE NOTE - I loved the chair I sat in and the receptionist went out of her way to call the person who ordered all their office furniture to find out where it was from..NOW THAT WAS OVER AND ABOVE... read more

The doc I have been seeing here is as friendly as a scorpion most visits. Never updates me on my macular degeneration progress unless I ask. Whips in and out of appointment and in giving me an eye injection once she whipped the little tool to hold my eye open out so fast it scratched my eye (WENT TO A LOCAL REGULAR EYE DOC FOR THAT). Fortunately I moved recently and found a far more friendly and supportive group in Retina Institute of Illinois. Night and day to the treatment I got from Fox Valley. Don't feel anymore like getting the max number of patients ($$) through is priority, but that I am priority. read more

Dr. Pica has an attitude and not friendly. The lady at the front desk in optical with long black hair is as warm as a February day. Only nice person I dealt with was Carson in optical. The other ladies when checking in to see a doctor act as if they're doing you a favor. Go to St. Charles office. Dr. Helkias is wonderful along with all the other staff and assistants. read more

Do not trust this place unless you like surprise billing! Before I left that day I asked if I owed anything for that days visit. I was told no, I was all set. 3 weeks later I received a bill for $500! I will be filing a complaint with Attorney General's Health Care Fraud Unit. read more

My appointment with Brian Hepplefinger was what nightmares are made of. He was unapologetically late (my husband had to round him up from the hall after our lengthy wait in the exam room), He did not introduce himself, or greet either of us, he hurried through a look at the computer screen results of the tech's preliminary exam, took a quick look in my eyes, then said I needed a two-minute laser treatment that he could do in two future appointments. When I asked for clarity abut his off-handed remark about my condition, he replied "I already told you three times" and that I could google the specifics of the procedure. He said this while hurrying out of the exam room door with a mention of "macular degeneration" which startled me because I had never heard any reference to this prior to this visit. My husband was witness to this rude behavior that, in my mind, bordered on cruelty. This was not my first visit to Fox Valley Ophthalmology, but it will surely be my last. I will not keep this experience secret. read more

First, why are there 2 entries for this business on Yelp?  Look at ALL the reviews for both and you'll get a clearer picture. My own experience is that this place is a money grubbing operation filled with the usual incompetent optometry techs that just moved up from their previous fast food job.  It was close to my new home, so I figured I'd give them a shot.  Mistake. They charged me 20% more than usual for simple CR39 plastic replacement lenses (already had frame) for which I already had a script from another doc in Naperville.  Campton Hills is 20% more expensive than Naperville??  Give me a break. Moreover, the process was needlessly time-consuming and actually faulty.  My script clearly stated a PD measurement and the incompetent person helping me wanted to remeasure - why?  Of course she came up with another number.  When I stated that I am sensitive to the PD value, she said "oh well they'll split the difference".  Huh, are you nuts? My reaction was to tell her "NO, you'll order the lenses as written in the script - period."  What an idiot.  Thankfully I received the lenses properly made. She then told me it'll be 10 business days.  Are you joking?  In decades I have never waited more than 5 days for simple single vision, uncoated CR39 lenses that take about 2 minutes to fit to a frame.  When I asked why, she gave me the nonsense COVID supply chain excuse.  Baloney, as there's no shortage of CR-39 blanks and my glasses were in 4 business days later. Next time I will make the drive back to my old supplier and spare myself the expense and aggravation here. read more

I broke my glasses the DAY before we were leaving for our vacation and was panicked! i called Fox Valley Optometry first thing in the morning and was greeted by an upbeat, sweet woman named Katie. She not only got me an appointment for that same day but took me 10 minutes BEFORE the scheduled appointment! She calmly reassured me she'd take care of everything and she sure did. My experience was great. I had cataract Surgery and the outcome was fantastic. I can see again! My only complaint is about the process itself. It takes 6 weeks from the time of the surgery until you finally get new reading glasses. The Surgeon and staff were very professional. I would recommend this Company to anyone having vision problems. I have been going to Dr. Pica for several years. I admit and with her have admitted to not being compliant with my contact over usage. Every year she would come in and talk to me about the risks of wearing my contacts longer than I should. I feel I always had a good open honest relationship with her. With that said the last appointment I had with her was awful. She stormed into the room telling me she couldn't see me anymore because of my non compliance. Did not say hi...just came in angry and making me feel horrible. I held back tears as she berated me. I am a mom to two young children. I work full time and I have put my health on the back burner, as any mom/dad can probably resonate with. Making appointments is difficult when a lot of the times appointments are only available during working hours. For her to come in and just attack me rather than treating me as a human and discussing how I can do better for myself was so cold to say the least. I have never been spoken to in that way from a doctor where I am paying for their services. She sent me a letter saying I had 30 days to find another doctor after this appointment. Which was fine I had no plans to return after her the ways she treated me. Before I got the letter I called to order my contacts. The lady stated the prescription had not been finalized and she would have to call me back. She lied. She knew she couldn't order the contacts for me because she had to confirm with Dr. Pica that the letter was received. She called me back to say she could send the prescription but couldn't order my contacts because Dr. Pica was not going to follow me!? However, the letter stated I had 30 days. Regardless their lack of honesty and compassion I wanted to be brought to attention. I would never refer anyone I know to fox valley. read more

Dr. Hefelfinger, the ophthalmologist who performed my cataract surgery is very professional, supportive, friendly and an excellent surgeon. Katie in the Optical Department is friendly, knowledgeable, professional and thorough. She provided the out-of-pocket expenses for my glasses 3 weeks ahead of time so I could plan for the expense. The only drawback to Fox Valley Ophthalmology is the front desk staff. They sometimes come off as unprofessional, rude and abrupt because of high call volume. They need to work on their people skills. read more

I have been seeing Dr Heffelfinger of Fox Valley Ophthalmology for over 20 years, and have always been pleased for the service he and the staff have given me. I have various eye problems. Dr Heffelfinger has even come in to the office on a Saturday just to check up on me. They have not hesitated to have me checked by other specialists; they have sent me to both the Wheaton Eye Clinic and the University of Chicago Medical School for additional opinions. read more

This provider is a scam and a rip-off. DO NOT go here. I went in for an annual routine exam and after the exam they noticed I need more procedures, yet they would not and will not bill the annual eye exam under my ACA 100% coverage. They refuse and said I was with a specialist. I didn't ask for a specialist, I called and scheduled an annual exam. They tell me this can't be done and want me to pay out of pocket $270. I told them remove the amount for the annual exam and I will pay the rest, yet they REFUSED! I repeat DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THIS PROVIDER AS ALL THEY ARE TRYING TO DO IS STEAL MONEY FROM YOU AND BAIT AND SWITCH! INCLUDING THE BILLING OFFICE! read more

Saw Dr Wendell today for an eye infection. Would not recommend him. He called in a script. Cvs couldnt get it due to manufacturer backorder and called him to get a new one. This was at 1pm. No call back I called him at 430 left another message. Never called. Called Fox Valley Optamalogy at 730pm had to go thru glasses department to get human on the phone. Was told I had to wait til tomorrow. Not going back!!!! Very poor service read more

Just had a terrible experience here. I had an eye exam on Wednesday and on Thursday my left eye was very irritated and draining. When it did not go away overnight I calledl on Friday morning to say I thought I had gotten an eye infection while at the office. I was told they had never had this happen and that it was highly unlikely because they "wipe everything down". Really, do people get infections in hospitals? How many people die ever year from infections they get in hospitals. Do they wipe everything down? The arrogance of the statement is a prime example of the problems with our health care system. I spoke to two more people including finally talking with the manager and got the same response so what I experienced is "how this practice is run." Then they said in order for me to see someone in their office I would have to get a referral from my primary physician. Needless to say I will never go back to this practice again. read more

Thankfully I was able to clearly see how the is office functions by the first phone conversation with them. I am appalled in how this office can inform me that they will not accept my daughter who is on Medicaid, however, as I informed them I would pay out of my pocket as her pediatrician recommended this examination from a screening they do in their office. I needed an office that saw children under 3. If you accept patients with any other insurance and patients with no insurance , you should have accepted my daughter a private paying patient. The counter people and office manager are some of the rudest people I've been involved with. When i showed up for an appointment 10 minutes late i was told I would have to reschedule. I was told they were backed up. I asked what the policy for people who were late and was told a 15 minute grace period. When i asked why i was not getting the same policy, i was told because they were backed up. When i called the office manager to get an explanation, i was told i was not welcome back to their practice. Too bad as my wife and i had been patients for about six years and liked the doctor. read more

Unfortunately, I had to change providers simply because I could not get through to them on the phone. I tried on seven separate days to get through, multiple times, and after waiting over 10 minutes each time only to be bounced to a voicemail, I finally gave up. I did get a call back and they left me a voicemail. It simply is too inconvenient, because I call when I'm able to throughout the day because I work full time. I'm not available at their whim when they decide to call back. The care was okay when I went there, but who has the time to deal with these kinds of frustrations. If they improve their office operations, I would consider going back. read more

Left my previous clinic because of driving distance. Saw Dr. Pica because I was having trouble with the "middle" vision (between reading and distance) with my contacts.I had my records transferred from Wheaton Eye Clinic. After an exam and measurement, she ordered a new pair of contacts for me. Upon receiving them, Dr. Pica THEN decided to look at my transferred records. Not before. Discovered my current contacts were pretty amazing and said I would just have to get cheaters. I watched her download & print my records for the first time - at my second visit. She said "I'm sorry we wasted your time." Gee, thanks. Now $150 & two wasted visits later I'm no closer to being able to see my computer work than I was before. read more

My husband has been going this office for a many of years, because Dr. Heffelfinger treats him for eye iritis due to his RA. They have always seem to work well with his Rheumatologist in the past. Yet, when it comes to emergencies its seems this office is lacking. We are presently dealing with eye iritis, and his office and the Rheumatology doctor are fighting over WHOM will write the prescription for treatment. The Eye Iritis is due to the RA, but they don't treat eyes (RA doctor). In the past (we have deal with this a couple times before) it has always been Rheumatology that wrote the scripts, and the Hellelfinger that watches the progress, etc. Now they are discussing - going on a week now - whom will write the prescriptions and they won't return phone calls, give progress on the talks, etc. Meanwhile, my husband's eye is about to burst...and it seems no one truly cares. Yes, it is incompetence on both ends...and I intend to write review on the Rheumatology end as well. If something happens to him - and it sounds like it might! They not only be dealing with me and my wrath...but I will have some legal help so they can explain why he is being treated so woefully. The only one seems to give a darn is our primary physician that has given him some eyes drops that will hopefully help until these two offices decide WHOM will step up and do their job. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough. My family has been going here for probably a decade, and they are just fantastic. The doctors and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful, and I can't emphasize how they bend over backwards to help their patients. Just this past week, I had an emergency with my eyeglasses that I had bought from them--I purchased the glasses through them just over a year ago, and one morning the right arm literally just broke off. To make matters more complicated, I had since moved to Los Angeles, and was back that week visiting my family--I was going to return 2 days later. Well, most other places would have just told me I was SOL, but at Fox Valley they REPLACED my frames with a similar sample pair (same style, different color) for no extra charge! I can't promise this is a standard thing--it may have been just because we've been such long-time patients--but this is just one example of how helpful and amazing they are at Fox Valley. I have worn glasses since I was 7 years old and have had many experiences, some good some not so good and in addition, I have a complicated prescription. Probably one of the worst doctor office experiences I've ever had. I have been a patient of FVO for about 3 or 4 years now. I've never been thrilled with the care I have received, but it IS close to home, so I stayed with them. Not after today. I made an appt. for red irritated eyes. As a teacher, I was concerned I might infect my students with pink eye. I left school early as they said they could fit me in. My name was called after about 20 minutes, but after a quick conversation in the back office, I was told that there were 3 charts ahead of me, so I would need to return to the waiting room. This alone I thought was rude, but she said it wouldn't be long. So I then sat...for another HOUR until my name was called again. In that time period, I had asked why 8 people had been called to the back, when I was told that there were only 3 charts in front of me. The attendant told me I would be called soon after I was done dilating...but I wasn't dilating..."oh!" she said..."well, they'll call you soon." When I did get to see the doctor I thanked him for his time, but expressed my disappointment that his staff clearly did not value my time. The DOCTOR'S response was "you're lucky we even saw you for this...when you call for an emergency appointment you automatically go to the back of the line."....what???!!! I'm not even sure if he understood how moronic that sounded, but I am sure that a "professional" with that type of attitude is not one I will ever see again. Please do yourselves a favor and find another eye doctor who values your time and your care as much as you do. read more
