Horrible!!! Stay Away!!! I got a phone call on my way to appt telling me they couldn't find my insurance in which they previously told me all good i don't know i guess it jumped off screen. They turned me away! Then 5 minutes later they call and say whoops we found it come back. I come back and sit for 2 hours as the front desk lady who had white spit dried up on face told me she was doing me a favor. Uh really? I had 10am appt!!! So, they got me in at 12:15 not even sure why I waited. Now I have waited 1 MONTH for glasses and they still are not available to pick up AND they can only tell me they are ordered with no ETA available. read more

As someone in my late 40s who's new to needing an eye exam, I wasn't sure what to expect -- but Dr. Victor F. Verbic made the experience easy and reassuring. After trying two other eye doctors and not feeling confident in their care, I finally found Dr. Verbic, and I'm so glad I did. He was very polite and incredibly informative, taking the time to explain everything in a way that made sense to me. I left feeling well cared for and much more confident about my eye health. My exam was fine I have nothing to complain about there, however, they had terrible customer service while ordering my glasses. I was told my glasses would take 2-3 weeks I don't hear anything back from them for 8 weeks. I finally call back and they tell me it will still take some time. I ask for a refund and they say it's a 150$ restocking fee. So all in all I would go somewhere else. read more

Very disappointing staff, lack of communication with the front office and billing. I called several times in the last 5 months regarding a bill and even did a 3 way call with my insurance company w the front office because the billing lady Tina was never available. At first I made payments then decided to follow up w my insurance company and they said there were charges on it that didn't even pertain to the codes. Today was the first time Tina had called me back and did not let me even talk says here's a number since they sent it to collections already and to deal w them. I was even told the day of my appointment if I did a payment plan I wouldn't need to worry about a collections. Hmm? Obviously that was a lie. Please for future patients call your insurance companies after you get a bill from them, it's sad how these days you can't even trust your healthcare provider. read more

Dr Wenzel gets a 5 star rating. Her staff gets 1 star. I received a text stating my glasses were ready and to reduce my wait time they recommended scheduling an appointment. When I went to pick up my glasses the receptionist asked if I had made an appointment and I told her no. She had me take a seat and then came out and handed me my glasses in their case and told me if they didn't fit I could call to make an appointment and just bring them back with me. I asked if I could just wait now and she told me I couldn't because they only had two of the girls working that day and they didn't have time. They had one patient in the waiting room and the office was still open for another hour. Next year I will have Dr Wenzel write me the prescription and I will get my glasses somewhere with a little better customer service. read more

They did not tell me that my insurance was not in their network. I end up paying all out of pocket. That was quite a surprise for me.

The only negative thing I'd say is there can be a wait once you're actually in the office. On the other hand, Dr Ebbesen never rushes through an appointment so maybe that's why there's a wait time. ‍ It's a small price to pay for a very good eye doctor! He always takes the time to explain whatever is necessary. Also I find the fees to be fair. read more

The Doctors who practice there are excellent With the exception of Jeff (who unfortunately is retiring and is also excellent) their opticians are just ok. Jeff can actually repair almost anything that can happen to your glasses - not so sure that the newer opticians can so anything other than fit new ones. The receptionists make you feel as though they're doing you a favor by even talking to you. Ask a question to the receptionist and they'll start whining about something. They must all be related to the owner if you know what I mean. The lens house that they use is good, but you'll wait what seems like too long of a time to get your glasses - for me it's always been 3 to 4 weeks. read more

I've been coming to DeKalb Optometric for 15 years and will continue to! Dr. Ebbesen and the staff are wonderful and always go over everything with me, from concerns, explanation of benefits and my quirkier questions. It's always easy to get an appointment and the convenient hours are awesome! Great selection of glasses and affordable. The office is welcoming and I appreciate it being apart of the community. I went back a week later to order my glasses and accompany my Mom for her visit. Jenny the optician was so wonderful. Dr. Wendel is FANTASTIC. I've been ALL OVER trying to get my "halos" minimized. Dr. Wendel took the time to research my condition, figure out the best form of treatment, then act on that treatment. RUDE!!!! I decided to come here for myself after using them for a routine eye exam for my son (no glasses) and having a positive experience with Dr. Ebessen. I fully regret giving them my business! The day of my exam, they told me I was "self pay" when I have insurance. The lady at the check in desk told me "well your insurance is crossed out so I need you to step down to the next desk, I need to get these people checked in." So, I step down to the next desk where the lady (who was not wearing a mask despite the multiple signs telling customers they MUST) tells me "you don't have that insurance anymore." I told her yes, I do and hand her my insurance card. She proceeds to say "usually we don't take "these" on Saturdays" (talking down on my specific insurance). I told her I can leave if it's a problem.. and she straightened right up. Fast forward to glasses pick up. I get my glasses after one week, go home and look in the mirror and they are droopy looking. I go right back to have them adjusted and the lady says "are you sure that's not just the design?" I said no.. can I see the sample ones I tried on? In which she REFUSED to let me see them. Saying "we change our glasses out all the time, they probably aren't even here anymore." ....but wouldn't let me go check?? They did end up adjusting my glasses for me and again, nothing but a positive experience with doctor Ebessen himself but everyone else? RUDE!!! read more

I would not order glasses through them again. I have no complaints about my exam. Dr. Wendell was wonderful, however when I went downstairs to pick out my frames and order my glasses the good service ended. The girl behind the desk pointed to a room down the hall and told me to go in there. I assumed I was waiting for someone to come in and help or assist me but after a period of time with no one coming to check on me or ask if I needed help, I picked my frames out myself. I Did have a question regarding size and frame shape and when I went up to the front desk to ask if there was someone that could help me I received a blank stare and told to go wait in another room. The Bifocals were finally ordered and after 2 or 3 weeks When they arrived the bifocal part was not only way too big and in my field of vision but one was bigger than the other. No apology was offered but the frames were re-ordered once again with specific instructions on what size the bifocal should be. Another two or three weeks later they were back in and when I went to pick them up they were made exactly the same way as they were before, with the bifocal too big and one bigger than the other. They were sent away again and a few weeks later they finally arrived correct at which point I left an older pair of my frames to have them put my new prescription in them as a back up and when they arrived 2 or 3 weeks later they had put the old prescription in instead of the new one. Again no apology was offered and when I spoke to an office manager when all this was done and asked if there was any compensation I could be given for all my trouble I was told that there was none. I was a long time customer, but I am going elsewhere. I ordered glasses and have had nothing but problems with them. I have had to make numerous trips to have the glass lens and frames replaced. The last time I was told all good, left and realized the one lens was not fixed. Went back in and was told they had cracked the lens and put the old one back in, but no one told me!!! I went back in and now have to send the glasses back in to fixed, no apology no nothing. What happen to customer service, no we are all about the $$. At least I can warn others. read more

My family and I have been patients at DeKalb Optometric for 30 plus years. We inherited Dr. Verbic after he inherited patients from the retired Dr. Skabo. In the last 4 years he has managed to make diagnostic mistakes on 4 out of 4 members of my family. When kindly questioned about his diagnosis, he has responded in a defensive, arrogant manner. I have been a patient at DeKalb Optometric for 40+ years. Never in all of my visits has anything been so poorly handled. And that's being kind... I needed a new left lens for my glasses after having cataract surgery. On the 12th of June I went to DK Optometric with a new prescription from the clinic that did the surgery. It was the end of September before I got the correct lens. They kept ordering the right side lens instead of the left side. When the left lens finally came in, it was still not right, as it had a photo-gray coating on it that was not supposed to be there. So then it was another two weeks. Insurance covered the lens, and they still had the audacity to send me a bill for a copay after doing such a crappy job. The staff there is going to put the doctors out of business! first of all I would love to start off by saying that im going to be 100% honest.. When I walked in with my family the air in the room was different like if we interrupted the conversation they had. The blonde doctor is a total bitch and stuck up for no reason literally chill.. An attitude like that isn't going to take you anywhere. Second of all I would like to know why my glasses came in literally like 5/6 months after the date that was expected?? literally a fucking joke seriously and it's not like I order any fancy ones it was 1 basic pair, I called multiple times and got the same response "6 weeks"... you guys really have to do something about the staff and try to do something about making things quicker. It's sad i've been coming here for over 15 years and no change literally everything has been in the same place for years even those old magazines that I have to read as you guys take hours. Jeff and dr.ebbeson are the only ones I actually like, without them the place will become dull especially with that blonde doctor. read more
