This review is from a while back, been meaning to do it so take your chances. Maybe some of these employees are no longer there, maybe they are. My wife went in for a pair of regular and sun glasses, no exam so can't comment on that. She bought designer frames on both and after a day or so, she went back for a adjustment as they weren't fitting quite right. Again, after a day or so they were sliding about on her face so she knew they weren't fitted correctly. Back she goes and on this visit she finds out they sold her men's frames. You think any reputable business would say "we're very sorry, pick out some lady's frames and we'll correct our error". But no, they wouldn't do anything except to try and adjust them once again. One female assistant said "you've say they're to tight......too lose, make up your mind"! Yes! Really! Another employee (male) said to my wife, and I quote" you have thin skin because you're menopausal". Good thing I wasn't there when he said that! Those of you who wear glasses know they can be quite expensive and Third Street Optical did OBSOLETELY NOTHING to resolve our issue, give her a refund or offer to change frames. Beware of this business because if you have problems, don't expect any resolution! read more

I recently moved to St Charles and found Third Street Eyecare on google. I am so glad I did! I have never met such a kind staff. Everyone is friendly and informative. Maureen is such an asset to the team. She took her time helping me find the perfect pair of glasses. I decided on a pair that I loved and once the cost was calculated, I felt terrible, but I just couldn't afford them. So we went back to the drawing board... and you know what? She couldn't have been more kind and patient :) so we picked out another pair of glasses that I absolutely LOVE and were right in my budget. They called me frequently with updates as to when my glasses and contacts would arrive. They ensured my contact lenses were comfortable for me and my glasses fit my face just right. They made me feel valued. As long as I live in the area, I will be a customer at Third Street Eyecare! I'd give more stars if I could. read more

Full disclosure, I am a former optician so I am very picky about my glasses. I did a lot of online research before I decided to go to 3rd St., Eyecare and I'm so glad I did. When I walked in I told the optician, Maureen to show me similar glasses to what she wore- and she wound up fitting me in the best pair of glasses I've ever had. I wear progressive lenses and they're crystal clear. The frame is light and extremely cool. I highly recommend this little shop it's beautiful and everyone there is very helpful and friendly. read more

We have been going to Third Street Eyecare as a family for several years now. They provide excellent care! They are that rare combination of competent and personal. We especially like how well they naturally interact with our children. We were wondering if much would change when Dr. Burggraf retired because we liked him so much. We are very pleased that Dr. Ward is just as good, continuing in the tradition of excellent care established at Third Street. She and all the staff are very good at what they do. I can only describe the business practice of Third Street Eyecare as fraudulent. We have VSP insurance. My wife thought it was in her name, but it was in mine (we have the same employer). Upon giving her name and information, she was told that she was "covered". In fact, Third Street did NOT find the VSP insurance coverage, but instead went to work using only a very general "discount" program which applied to our employer. The difference in price between the insurance which we have, and the "discount" they used was over $500. This, despite telling her that she was "covered". I corrected them and corrected the bill to the $10 copay each for my wife and two daughters. The "insurance specialist" and I agreed that the charge was correctly $30 for all work. Case closed........not quite. Upon reviewing the refund to my credit card, I noticed that they did not retain the agreed upon $30, instead retaining $84. I called again, and the "insurance specialist" informed me that there was a $54 charge for "Optional Retinal Screening". She assured me that my wife had been informed that this was an optional service in addition to the requested eye exam for new glasses. She assured me that my wife was additionally informed that there was a charge of $18 for this fancy digital picture of the retina. Of course, she was not informed of any such thing. In fact, the words used were "..the doctor likes to have this...." Looks like the "doctor" is paying for his fancy new machine. Well, I think the doctor needs to be charged with consumer fraud. Telling a customer that they are "covered" by the insurance they have plainly indicated they have and then charging them under a "discount" program that is NOT insurance is FRAUD. Doing a procedure "which the doctor likes to have" and which is NOT part of an eyeglass exam and carries an additional charge without explaining it and the charge to the customer is FRAUD. Third Street is about to meet the Illinois State Attorney General, the CFPC, Consumer's Checkbook, Angie's List, and the Better Business Bureau. Cheers, read more

From the phone call made to reserve our appointment to getting our contact lenses and glasses, the experience was nothing but pleasant. By the way, they have an easily accessible website where you can book appointments online as well (a feature we love). My husband and I were very happy with the services we were provided here. Dr. Burggraf is very gentle and thorough when explaining all of the information to us. His wife, Julie, helped both of us pick out some amazing frames. She knows exactly what she is doing! It was also great to not feel rushed. They really take their time to tend to your every needs at Third Street Eyecare and treat you like you're family. I've been coming to Third Street for years, since they first opened. Dr. Burgraff is the best - always asks how I am doing generally, how my family is, makes me feel at ease, and takes lots of time to explain things in lay terms. Third Street is one of the few individually owned, non-franchise eye care providers to take my state university insurance. Everyone is helpful and friendly here. Dr. B even took the time once to send me an email about all the things to do in Door County whe he found out I was going there. I've never thought about going anywhere else. read more

I scheduled an exam for glasses because the contacts that I had purchased approximately 3 months prior from another provider were very strong. I wanted glasses to "rest" my eyes from the contacts until I had adjusted to them. In speaking with the doctor he indicated that he would like to try a different prescription for contacts with me to see if it made things better, so I agreed. I had two trial contacts for about one month and was fine with local day driving, but when I drove my son back to college in unfamiliar streets at night, I did not feel confident that I could navigate the road safely. I contacted 3rd street and they agreed to take the contacts back and refund me as none of the boxes were opened. I have been in contact with my insurance company 5 times waiting for the credit in the past three months and have been told by Wendy that the credit has been applied to my insurance company, but the insurance provider has indicated that they have not completed the corrected claim form that is required. I have contacted them to let them know as has the insurance company - yet nothing has been done. Also, I was told by the insurance specialist that I had $250 to spend towards material, which was not true and they then billed me the difference. Additionally, I was charged a large portion of my allowance for the $165 fitting fee which I offered to have them apply to a new glasses purchase at their establishment (which would mean to pay approximately 20-30% more for glasses in comparison to other vision care locations in Geneva), they refused. Overall, according to my insurance company, they have paid out $545 and I do not have glasses or contacts! Furthermore, the $18 retinal photography procedure they promote actually costs $114 when billed to your insurance company and most providers do not cover this procedure unless needed for unusual or extreme situations. The only positive to this establishment is that Doctor B is thorough and knowledgeable. ***Since posting this and speaking with my insurance company, they have encouraged me to file a grievance for investigation with BCBS due to the business practices and lack of cooperation that I received and they received upon contact*** read more

As I left my appointment with Dr. Randy my husband and I said to each other that this has been the most thorough eye exam we have ever had. It was interesting, educational, and enjoyable. Dr. Randy has a great gift of building a relationship with you by being a great listener. The personalized service will keep myself and my husband coming back for our yearly exams and eyeglasses. The staff and optometrist were a dream to deal with. Until I had a problem. My prescription is so off that I cannot even wear my new $600 glasses. When I called to address this problem (3 different calls), the staff were extremely rude and at one point even blamed me for not placing them on my face correctly! We called Third Street Eyecare in search of a new doctor close to home. I called and provided my insurance information and was told Third Street was "in network" and insurance would be accepted for an annual exam. Our family was billed after the appointment as our insurance was denied. I politely requested a refund of the service that would have otherwise been covered due to their error ($59). That request was denied by "the owner". Whether this was a bait and switch tactic to muster new business or simple incompetence, it's unprofessional and unfair. read more

Dr Burgraff does a wonderful job with his exam the staff is another thing using VSP they dont allow you to use your insurance for frames over 300.00 I've checked with VSP and found that there wrong in doing so you can go to any office and use full VSP on any frame i also found out that they charge for things like u/v and scratch cote on lenses that already have it on be careful going in and being charged for things all ready on the lenses nice shop the older woman who is the owner only cares about how much you spend and the other woman who works behind the desk is the same way there are better places to go which is SPEX where you can use your full VSP benefits in Geneva. Their prices are high and it takes a long time to get your glasses since they have no in house lab. read more

Overall a great experience. Technician was detailed and thorough. One picture of inside my eye came out a little dark, she took it three times before it was "right". I think many others would not have taken those efforts. The Dr. he was professional, friendly and thorough. He understood issues I have with my eyes and worked with them, to be sure I received the right prescription. I feel confident about my experience. I really can't recommend this place. My wife and I stopped in three times. The first time, she was shopping for new glasses and wanted to look at frames. The person who waited on her was extremely pushy, didn't want to spend any time with her unless she was committed to buying her glasses there. Second time, I was looking for basic prescription sunglasses. The optician was helpful, I had my prescription with me so all I needed was to pick out frames and get a price. Found one I liked, and the optician worked the numbers; $520 for a pair single-vision sunglasses! There were a lot of "extra charges" on the list, so I politely declined and shopped elsewhere. Found perfectly good glasses for $160. Third time (LAST TIME), we were next door and my wife needed her glasses adjusted. Now, in my entire life, I've never had an optical shop refuse to do a comfort adjustment - it's a courtesy thing, that every eyecare business will provide. Well, when they asked if she bought them there and she said no, they wouldn't do it. The person said "we just had a meeting about that, and decided not to adjust frames bought on the internet". So, from an "almost customer", your strange practices have cost you any possibility of future business with us. read more
