I was here on a Friday night and the DJ was literally playing every song on my playlist!!! So this review might be slightly biased because I was in such a good mood, lip-syncing and chatting with my friends at the same time. We were seated on the patio, which had well-distributed fire heaters, and I had a great view of the CN Tower. The whole vibe was just right, so an easy 5 stars for atmosphere. Our server was also incredibly patient. She helped us navigate the online menu and kept checking back to make sure we were okay. Another solid 5 stars for service. For food, I had the jerk chicken pasta. It had a little too much sauce for me, but it was still good. One of my friends had the fish and chips, the fish had a really nice crunch and was cooked perfectly. My other friend had the cheese pizza, which he loved. I tried some and it was way too cheesy for me , but hey, he loved it! Overall, a great spot for a late-night hangout with friends. We were here around midnight and had such a good time. Definitely somewhere I'd come back to for the vibes!

Fish tacos with fish and fries

With a convenient location in Downtown Toronto and many happy hour and other special event deals, it's no wonder that this is a popular spot. However, if you're not looking to get drunk and kill time shouting to be heard over very loud music, then this may not be a good spot for you. The wait staff informed me that the music is loud all hours of the day, even during weekend brunch. It's the kind of place where you may have to wait a while in line just to speak to the host even if you have a reservation. Seating is limited and you may have to down a couple of drinks before the food comes. I tried the fish taco, which was flavourful but a little slim on the fish side. Also had the fish and chips (which were actually skinny fries) whereby the fries are a bit too salty and the fish too deep fried in hard batter. The tartar sauce on the contrary was rather underdone and bland. The guava glow mocktail was much too sour with a block of ice preventing the juice from blending with the syrup so each sip was either too sweet or too sour. All in all, it is certainly a wild ride coming to this restaurant. If you ever wondered what it would be like to eat in a club, this would be an accurate simulation. Probably best to only come here if you are already drunk, high, have lots of time, and/or don't care much about the quality of food or drink. Note: Just to cause more confusion, the exterior says Fox & Fiddle but it is the location for Fox on John so if you're stuck wondering if you're in the right place, they are the same thing.

Lobster Pasta and Steak Ribeye Appetizer

I really wanted to like this place as they have a pretty lively patio and great deals at all times but unfortunately I was disappointed. Right off the bat, the customer service was subpar. From having to wait 15 minutes to be seated to the hostess ignoring our request for patio seating on our reservation, the experience did not start on a good note. Even after we were seated, there weren't any improvements as we waited a while to be acknowledged by the server and she wouldn't even check-in on us so we had to physically seek her out to get an additional order in. Drinks were watered down and I probably had the worst Aperol Spritz so far this summer (something about it just tasted strange). Food was okay but nothing special although I appreciated the ribeye steak appetizer. Overall, not the place I would be in a rush to visit again....

We had an excellent server named Danika who provided exceptional service from the time we sat down to when we left. She was humorous and such a joy! I was surprised by how quickly the food came out. I only took a picture of the French onion soup but my lobster pasta and my partners ribeye steak were both very good and worth the value (came for the $20.26 promotion). I would recommend! Definitely make a reservation if you're coming for the promo.

Pretty ok. They have a good selection of happy hour drinks and appetizers so cheap beers and bar rail. Does get full so try to make a reservation when you can. Ordered the Steak and Truffle Fries ($36) and it was solid. Good cut of sirloin and very good truffle fries. The horseradish dip was ok but probably not my favorite when it comes to steak dips. Feels like just above average for a pub-style steak but not quite enough to push it to a 4 star imo.

Had a reservation before our musical so we came by for a quick dinner. I got the chicken caesar wrap and a side of a salad. The wrap was quite saucy and there was a fair amount of chicken. The salad did come out with a more oily dressing. My friends shared apps and some were hit or miss. Fox on John gets very busy and crowded, making it very difficult to hear even the person sitting next to you. Service was good but felt that it was rushed because of the long line up which makes sense. For me, not my cup of tea but the food was decent and the servers were nice.

We came during their January special where everything on the menu is capped at $20.26. We got a last minute reservation which was necessary as the restaurant was packed. My friend and I both got the ribeye steak, and we subbed one of the mashed potatoes for fries. The steak was cooked well. The fries were not very crispy. Overall, the dish was exactly what I expected for a pub but for the price I was satisfied. They also have daily specials and happy hour specials which I may come back for in the future.

We went on the 10th Anniversary of Fox on John, on 2025-05-28. It is also called Fox and Fiddle. It is quite a popular pub. It was very full when we arrived, approximately 17:45. They give out free finger foods and drinks, including a tall glass of champagne at the entrance. If you were there for the free offerings without paying for food, you cannot sit on a table. We were only there for 20 mins. We managed to get 2 finger foods: Spring Roll and Shrimp. Both were delicious. We told a server that we didn't drink alcohol. She checked with a manager, and came back with a mocktail consisting of lychee, Mango, and grenadine; so delicious! The customer service was good. There were so many tables indoors and outdoors. They had a live DJ. Overall, it was quite noisy indoors. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-095

    10oz ribeye steak
    Angie L.

I celebrated a birthday at this restaurant. There was a January special with selected dish/drinks for $20.26. My table ordered ribeye steaks and being at that discounted price is so rare for Toronto! Quality was consistent for both dishes and a plus is that service was very quick. I personally enjoyed the dimmer lighting at this restaurant... great for date nights!

We came for lunch several weeks ago when we were in town for a concert, and as much as I love trying someplace new every time I visit, I'll be very tempted to make a repeat visit here instead. The food is excellent. We both had the ribeye appetizer, which was just the right amount of steak. It was perfectly cooked to order, with a creamy horseradish sauce. He had regular fries. I got the truffle fries. It was served with some sort of tangy aioli I loved. The salted caramel old fashioned is great. My only disappointment is that they didn't have a different cocktail I wanted to try that was apparently a seasonal offering. Service was very attentive. The ambiance was fine in the afternoon. Not too noisy at all.

Fox on John may be popular for dinner or drinks after work but did you know they have a good brunch menu too? We got to try their brunch dishes and found them pretty good! They have eggs benny, chicken and waffles and so much more. We also like the attentive service and their ambiance. I must say this is a great place for a date night or get together with friends and family.

Been here a few times on the patio and it's always a great vibe! Great view of the CN tower and a lively place. The inside is quite small and with very loud music but much more chill on the patio. Server was tough to find at times and the drinks can take a while, but understandable because it was so busy.

Celebrated my anniversary here on a cold snowy Friday night Vibe was great (different from other Fox), love DJ with mood lighting. Service was great from my sweet server, managers came to attend to our needs too. It was their 20.25 January special too so we got a bottle of wine and lots of food. The sweet server even got us sparkling for our celebration. The food was overall great however, I found a hair I'm one of my dish but the manager and our server was very apologetic and made up for our evening. Overall, great experience, reservations highly recommended.

We ended up ordering the Truffle Fries, the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka pasta, the Korean Chicken, and the Vodka Pie. The truffle fries were crisp and plentiful. We added sausage to the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka pasta, and it was delicious paired with the pizza. The Korean Chicken were bite sized and flavourful as well. So it goes without saying that my expectations were extremely high for the place. We arrived just before our reservation time and were quickly shown to a comfy table near the entrance. It was a good spot for taking in the admittedly impressive ambiance. Obviously we both had to order the Birdbath Martini ("Quill Gin, House Vermouth Blend, House Orange Bitters, Lemon Oil, Olives and Pickled Onions"). And yeah, it's incredible. The tableside preparation was certainly an impressive sight, and the taste of the drink was superb. Definitely one of the best martinis in the city. For my main, I went with the Bay Street ("shaved prime rib, tobacco onion, horseradish aioli, grilled baguette, frites") and after an unusually long wait, the plate arrived to the table. I can't say I was super impressed. The meat is tender and flavorful, yes, but the bread is so plentiful and so crusty that it pretty much negated the sandwich's positive attributes. I ultimately wound up leaving most of the bread and eating the scant prime rib. The fries were quite tasty, at least. Far more problematic was the service. Our waiter was absent for much of our meal. Our water glasses were empty for most of our time in the restaurant, and he never showed up to ask us if we wanted another drink, which we certainly did. We each probably would've ordered a couple more cocktails had the guy not vanished. So yeah, the martini was indeed excellent. Everything else? Not so much.

Located on the 31st floor of the St. Regis Hotel, the restaurant has an incredible atmosphere. The dining room is absolutely stunning with a classy and luxurious feel, but it still feels comfortable and inviting rather than too formal. We started the evening with cocktails before moving into the Summerlicious menu. I ordered the "I Only Drink When I Smoke," which was a great way to start the night. It had a subtle smoky flavour with a touch of sweetness, and the alcohol was not overpowering at all. It was smooth, easy to sip on, and the perfect drink to enjoy while having conversations. For my Summerlicious menu, I started with the Tartare de Boeuf and Caviar. The filet mignon tartare was fresh and really smooth, with a nice balance of rich and savoury flavours. The toasted bread also gave it a nice crunch and paired really well with the tartare. For the main course, I had the Roasted Chateaubriand Filet. When the plate was served, the meat looked really rare as I saw nothing but red on the meat, but it was incredibly tender, making it easy to cut through. It was full of flavour, and the sauce complemented the steak without being too heavy or salty. The vegetables added a nice balance to the dish, and the creamy mashed potatoes were smooth, and definitely one of my favourite parts of the meal. To finish, I had the Mango Passionfruit Cheesecake. It was creamy without feeling too heavy. Though the fruity flavours from the mango passionfruit were a bit tart and sweet for my palate, it still gave an overall refreshing touch. The crust added a nice texture, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the service and pacing of the evening. Each course arrived at the right time, allowing us to enjoy every dish without feeling rushed. The price point is definitely on the higher end, so it is not somewhere I would personally visit for a casual dinner on a regular basis. However, for a special occasion, celebration, or a night where you want to enjoy a beautiful dining experience, I think Louix Louis would be a great choice... and for $75/ person for Summerlicious/ Winterlicious, definitely a great value to sample the chefs' artistry. Overall, it was a memorable evening with an elegant atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and great service.
