On a recent vacation to Vancouver, my hubs and I drove up to Squamish on our way to visit a friend in Whistler. It's only our second time here but it still has a great, kick-back vibe. Of course we had to stop by our favorite cafe and donut shop, Fox & Oak. Love how they have a good variety of vegan and regular options for the donuts (they have gluten free too). I am not vegan but I can't digest milk protein well so I am always looking for dairy-free and vegan options. We got a vegan cinnamon sugar donut, regular passion fruit donut, and vegan apple fritter with raspberry icing to go. While at Whistler, we broke out all three and shared them before having lunch at Hunter Gather. All the donuts were delish!! We were all impressed by how fresh and soft they all were. Also, I didn't think I'd like the apple fritter with raspberry icing that much but I ended up liking it the most! On our way back from Whistler to Vancouver, we couldn't help it--we stopped and got two more donuts! Yep, it was a double donut day. I am not ashamed to admit it. Don't judge me until you try this place. Thank you, Fox & Oak!
We stopped into Fox and Oak twice on our trip, once on the way to Whistler and one on our way back down the Sea to Sky Highway to Vancouver. Starbuck's was Mr. B's favorite for coffee and we prefer the smaller independently owned coffee shops and Fox and Oak is a gem. Located in downtown Squamish, really on the outskirts of downtown. This tiny little spot has a long bar with seating and then a lovely patio. The staff at the register taking orders both times was so friendly, helpful and offered great recommendations. On our first visit it was a latte for Mr. B and a Chai Latte for me, both were creamy, filled with rich flavor without being bitter. We also shared a maple walnut donut. Oh it was so good. I can't say the last time I had a donut, but when in Canada, maple anything is always so good. The donut was light and had a lovely maple glaze on the top and then toasted walnuts. So good! On our second visit, we had the same drinks, the same Maple Walnut Donut and added a blueberry fritter. The fritter was crunchy on the outside, after the first bite we could see the layers of dough much like a croissant and in the middle were loads of fresh blueberries. Wow, fresh berries and not a sweet fake blueberry gel. It truly was scrumptious. Parking is on the street and can be tight, but both times we found parking even with a short walk. Which was good to walk off our donuts and pastries.
1. These are probably the best donuts we've had in British Columbia and also very good espresso. They also have excellent vegan donuts. 2. There was a line but it moved pretty quickly. Once we tasted the donuts and coffee we understood why there was a line. 3. We liked sitting outside where you had a nice view and could enjoy the sun.
My hubby and I popped in for a little sweet after dinner tonight and were greeted by a very sweet girl at the cash register. We tried the chocolate chip cookie, the mango passionfruit donut (amazing!!!) and the old fashioned donut! All were good, the mango passionfruit was outstanding! Fun holiday drinks and ambiance! Highly recommend!
We came here for a rest and natter as it was one of the few independent coffee houses still open on a late Saturday afternoon. Most places closed earlier (3-4 pm). The place was busy but we managed to get a table for us by the entrance. There, we could see a seemingly endless line of customers waiting to order. As it was late in the day and I already had a few cups of coffee, I wanted something cold and refreshing during the hot summer day. I asked the staff for recommendation and she suggested an iced dragonfruit soda. That was not even on the menu. Kudos! It really hit the spot! My friends had a regular coffee and the pumpkin spice latte. They said they were good. We also shared a pear fritter. It was a bit on the sweet side for me but they enjoyed it. The place can be quite loud as many people were just chattering away. Good place for coffee and donuts. Didn't see any sandwiches here. Oh, they also serve alcoholic drinks - beer and cocktails.
Fox and Oak is famous for their hand crafted donuts. What we got : Maple walnuts - naturally leavened brioche, maple graze toasted walnuts Mango Passionfruit - naturally leavened brioche mango passionfruit glaze dried mango, Savory scone GF creamsicle - Gluten friendly coke batter, orange graze vanilla ice cream drizzle. I did not have Maple walnuts and mango passion fruits, but according to family member, both dough and toppings were delicious and paired well. Savory sone was good. It was softer outside than I expected. I liked cheese flavor and buttery dough texture. Highlight was GF creamsicle! The dough was soft and a bit chewy while it was dense cake like texture, so good! I could have this dough endlessly , so delicious and different from other donuts I ever had. Overall, I want to revisit and try their different flavor donuts!
tl;dr the premium doughnuts are equal parts enjoyable and affordable Squamish may seem at first like a scenic yet suburban pit stop between Vancouver and Whistler. But don't sleep on Squamish's delicious food scene. For a light breakfast, a safe bet is Fox and Oak, an upscale coffee shop at the far end of Downtown Squamish. Notably, the premium doughnut menu spans from brioche to cake, standard to sophisticated. As you enter, you are immediately hit with the aroma of sugar and freshly baked bread. The atmosphere is minimalistic and mildly industrial, with wood-and-concrete motifs and plenty of natural lighting. Directly ahead, the warmly lit bakery case highlights delicious-looking doughnuts atop slate platters, and the beverage menu is built into the adjacent stone column. To the right, the queue trails beside a pegboard merch display, while half-booth seating is available in the window to the left. Outside, whitewashed metal stools are pressed up to lightwood bar counters. My partner and I arrived for an early breakfast before a day of driving, and the line stretched out the door. Of the doughnuts, I was most impressed by the robust and delicious Mango Passionfruit. The dried mango swirl provided an exciting texture, and the brioche base felt infinitely light. Meanwhile, the baseball-shaped Old Fashioned had a tasty but somewhat dry spiced cake base; admittedly, the shape didn't seem conducive to maximizing the sour cream glaze. Lastly, my partner ordered a dirty chai latte, which was served in a ceramic mug. The thick layer of foam was sprinkled artfully with cinnamon. The friendly service remained relaxed during the visit, and the bill ran about $10 -- not much more expensive than the Tim Horton's up the road. In the city, a Fox and Oak could fetch twice the price. As such, this approachable upscale coffee shop is well worth a visit.
I'm not a huge doughnut fan. I'll enjoy them but I never go out of my way to get a doughnut. Stumbled upon this shop while visiting squamish and decided to give it a chance. These doughnuts are some of the best doughnuts I've ever had. The texture of the brioche dough is what does it for me. They're well proofed, pillowy, AND you can taste the yeast flavourof the dough (Personal preference)! I bought half a dozen and would have to say that they do fruity flavours really well. Their more mild flavours (community doughnut and Thai tea) were a bit of a miss. They were sweet but didn't really give off the flavour they intended to be. (Especially Thai tea, unfortunately. It was just sweet, no tea flavour at all). I also got their seasonal strawberry peach matcha and that was really good. Refreshing, light and you could taste both fruits. Surprisingly well done on the house syrup! At times, there may be a queue and, definitely a wait for drinks, but it's an awesome little cafe. I highly recommend this shop and would come back in a heartbeat. I am still thinking about these doughnuts...
Stopped in Squamish for some donuts at Fox & Oak before we head to Whistler. The mango passion fruit donut was really good. We also got the earl grey matcha. Their donuts are light and fluffy, but don't look like it. It is super busy here as there was a line up. They have 4 small tables of two, some window seating and they have a covered outdoor patio to enjoy some donuts and coffee. One improvement I would recommend is for them to put names on the drinks so you it's yours. While waiting, 5 people had ordered large americano so we all looked at one another and asked who was next.
A cute little coffee place. An incredible selection of great tasting donuts. We tried 4 different types of the greatest tasting donuts I've had in a long time. We each had a large mocha and I had to go back for another one. The staff was extremely friendly, courteous and just a pleasure to be around. Will be back on our next visit.
Great little surprise on our trip up to Whistler. Grabbed yummy donut and coffee. Cute cafe with numerous options of donuts. Has several seating inside and out. Great views of the mountains. Staff were all very friendly. I will be back!
Before leaving Squamish last week, we needed a vegan donut fix and one of the best places to get that fix was Fox & Oak in the downtown area of Squamish. If you don't believe me, just look at these pictures and judge for yourselves! So much gorgeousness, so much drool (not shown :) ), so many crumbs (just kidding, there were no crumbs, we absorbed every bit of that donut lol) ...but we did at least share half each lol.

We stopped by here while driving back from the Whistler area to Vancouver. A friend had recommended this spot to us as a nice spot to take a driving break and refuel - and clearly a lot of other people had the same idea, as it was pretty packed! A few people had laptops and books out and appeared quite settled in at the few tables inside. There was plenty of additional seating in the outdoor patio though, so we were able to quickly grab two seats. Service was super friendly. FOOD // We got a 12oz latte and a maple walnut donut to share. The donut was delicious - so fluffy! - and the latte was also made well, balanced and a good accompaniment to the donut. If we weren't so full, I would've been tempted to get another donut... Next time! read more
This was only my third time here at Fox & Oak coffee & bakery. I've only ever had coffee & donuts here. It's usually just a stopover to or from Whistler or when visiting Squamish. This visit was the absolute charm. I found my new favourite donut here - the Maple Walnut. So amazing. This cafe puts Squamish on the map. At times the lineup is long but steadily moving. It's very busy here so don't expect too much peace & quiet one might find at other coffee shops. The surrounding location is a great place to wonder around & take a nice walk. The views of the world famous Stawamus Chief Mountain from outside this cafe are stunning. Shannon Falls is less than 10 minutes away. Service here is laid back & small town chill. read more

The pizza fritter was one of the best pastries I've ever had. It's crunchy, soft, fluffy, crispy, slightly sweet yet savory. What in the world! Homemade cola was very cinnamony. Very cool vibes. Looks right out at the magnificent rocky nature! Nice staff as well. 5 star bakery! read more

The berry hibiscus and mango passionfruit donuts from fox and oak are some of the best yeast donuts I've had! So fluffy and soft with a tangy layer of icing on top. Sooo delish read more
A few minutes drive off from the highway to find this neighbourhood coffee shops. Cozy and clean. Plenty of seats with high bar seats and table. They offer different donuts for people with dietary restriction. I believe they have treats for the paws too. Coffee was ok. Lots of merch on the shelves read more

Stopped by twice from whistler. The cafe had great views and nice seats. It's great that they have the gluten free options and their donuts taste different than the regular donuts in a good way. It's quite sweet but not the kind that makes me nauseous. Overall, I really like the vibe and taste of the donuts. Would love to come back and stop by whenever I visit whistler again. read more
We drove to Squamish, a small town near Vancouver, and took a coffee break at this local small cafe specialized in doughnuts. Their barista is sweet and accomodating. The space is cozy and relaxing--highly recommend sitting outdoor to enjoy the spectacular mountain view and breathe some fresh air. Clean restroom available. We got the last donut in the shelf, which is a strawberry matcha flavor and gluten free. Not too sweet but the flavor is quite subtle. Matcha latte is just okay. Probably not ceremonial grade so I'd suggest getting coffee instead. read more

Love the lemon blueberry fritter here! We also tried the blackberry cheesecake donut which was also decent. The iced chai latte was quite weak, which was unfortunate. But you come here for the donuts, not the drinks. The cafe is cute and has a bit of indoor seating and a fairly large outdoor seating area (given the size of the cafe). Staff are friendly and helpful. There was barely any wait on Tuesday afternoon, but Friday afternoon there was a roughly 15 min wait out the door. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in Squamish! read more
Been a few years since we've been back to Fox & Oak. They have a few gluten free doughnuts. Busy on a Sunday afternoon but the line moves quickly. Got an americano ($4.00) and doughnuts ($4.00 to $4.75); maple walnut, raspberry elderflower, mango passionfruit, GF blueberry and GF raspberry elderflower. The gluten free doughnuts were tiny. The others had nice flavours but the dough lacked a satisfying bite. read more

Absolutely the BEST doughnuts! We make the trip to Squamish, BC specifically for the hiking and the doughnuts! Always incredible staff! They even remembered our drink order from the previous day! (Yes, we go there daily when we're in town!) Don't sweat the line, it goes quickly!! read more

I appreciate that they offer gluten free donuts but they were so small and basic looking compared to the regular donuts. The flavour was kind of meh too. There's better gluten free donuts in Vancouver. I love that they offer dog doughnuts though! A lot of people in Squamish have dogs so that's awesome to see their support. My dog absolutely loved the dog donut! read more

5/5 for coffee, 3/5 for donuts. Black coffee and cortado were GREAT! Perfectly balanced. Not too much milk in the cortado, really nice. The donuts were fine, but my maple walnut donut tasted only like vanilla. Chocolate cinnamon had dull flavors as well. But never bad to have a donut with your coffee I guess?! read more

Seems they've got quite the following for donuts. This must be the Squamish version of Lucky's or Cartems of Vancouver. They are quite good and I can definitely see, or shall I say, taste the appeal. Located near the end of Cleveland Ave, there was a line up when I arrived. The place was busy. Plenty of street parking. Worth a visit if you're in town. read more
A must stop by shop for me whenever I am in the area! I can't get enough of their donuts Their flavours are always on point Perfect spot for coffee and snack break before or after Whistler or hiking The mango passionfruit is a brioche donut --fluffy, light and flavorful. The Berliners have so much filling! The most recent flavor I tried was strawberry rhubarb I tried gingerbread cake donut has a light crunch on the outside and soft cake in the middle. It had a good balance of nutmeg and ginger, and the brown butter glaze on top was scrumptious! At the end of November, the Squamish businesses had A Sip and Savor event, and I tried the Gingerbread Latte with the Gingerbread donut for $9.50. They also participate in helping out the local community where partial proceeds of their donut sales go to that. (This was the Puppy Chow donut, brioche style with peanut butter glaze, and chocolate peanut butter cereal treats) They also make vegan donuts and donuts for the dogs too! To be honest, Squamish is where we stop for gas or snacks on the way to Whistler or for a hike and not somewhere we usually explore. However Fox and Oak is located under a new modern low rise, in a beautiful neighbourhood with a park adjacent. Will definitely budget more time to explore next time! Let's cut to the chase, they make each fluffy beautiful brioche doughnuts. This place is bustling! The patio and interior it always full, and there's always a line! On Fridays they have their honey crueller specials - so we actually visited twice to try the special which was brown sugar milk tea so good! Go early as they sell out quick, we managed to snag the last two! I actually prefer the crueller over their regular brioche doughnuts as it was lighter and eggy and the flavour was on point! There are several vegan and gluten free options as well. We tried the mango passion fruit, chocolate, banana bread, pride, maple walnut, Berliner, vegan pistachio, and brown sugar milk tea crueller. We ate a lot of doughnuts that weekend lol The brioche doughnuts were light and fluffy, and the base is all the same just glazed differently. My favourite (aside from the crueller) had to be the mango passion fruit as it had the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The Berliner was nice too as it's sugar coated and I believe it was stuffed with apple (and some other fruits) which is a classic flavour combo where you can't go wrong. The chocolate, maple walnut and pride were okay, nothing special about them. The banana bread fritter sounded like it would be good as it's topped with cream cheese frosting, but it was a bit over fried and too hard which made the interior a bit dry. The vegan pistachio doughnut was a surprise for me, as usually vegan is stereotyped as being dense and dry. However it was soft and fluffy and the pistachio flavour was so good! I definitely recommend checking this out if your in the area or even just driving by Squamish. Especially try to make it on a Friday to try their crueller specials! read more
A friend highly recommended this place, so we tried it when we made a little trip on our way to Whistler. It was pretty obvious why it was so popular in the community. Fox & Oak has a great selection of donuts. The doughnuts were light and very flavourful. Strawberry White Chocolate - September Feature Chocolate Brioche Old Fashioned Sour Cream Maple Walnut Cinnamon Sugar Bumble Berry (Gluten Free) We got a box of six doughnuts, and they were all outstanding. I would 100% go back again to try more. Dessert: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! I haven't stopped thinking about this place since trying it four months ago and had to come back! The experience was unfortunately a lot different this time. I saw the person who made my latte last time on his way out from his shift. Damn it! I had missed him! He makes the most amazing lattes, flat, with beautiful foam art and perfect in every way. This time I watched as they got my oat milk latte confused with a regular milk one and two baristas stared at the coffees trying to figure out which is which. It was very foamy. Not in a glass cup like they usually pour it in if you're dining in. No latte art. And it wasn't even full. The doughnut luckily pulled the experience through. This was an amazing coffee shop, the best I'd been to after trying it the first latte. I'm really disappointed their quality went down. read more

Tried 4 donuts here: chocolate, pb & j, maple walnut and mango passion fruit. The donuts are so soft!!! Great size and highly recommend you split it with a friend so you can try more than one flavor. If you like fruity, mango passionfruit is amazing. Chocolate and maple walnut tasted as expected on such a great, fluffy donut. It's a small cafe but they do have outdoor seating as well. Lots of parking at front too and surrounding. Service is fast and you'll get your coffee quickly too. Definitely a must try on your way to whistler or heading back. read more
