Hands down, Fox & Kit is my very favorite cafe. They are so thoughtful about every aspect of the customer experience. From the stunning interior (!!) to the quality of everything they serve (and how they serve it), Fox & Kit sets the bar. The staff is great and the indoor playground is so much fun for kids -- and a work of art. I hear the coffee is excellent, but I'm a tea drinker. Their teas are wonderful. Anyone who has hosted or attended a private party there knows what a gem this place is for small events. We had our son's 5th birthday party there and it was the easiest and so much fun. What a cute spot! I stopped here to check it out to see if I'd want to bring my kiddo and his friends here --- he's 11 months old. And this place is great! The cafe offers a number of milk alternatives, for those of us who are lactose intolerant. I ordered my chai latte with oat milk, and it was frothy and delicious. I paired my drink with a dark chocolate croissant, and they were fabulous together. Great coffee shop music like you'd expect from a coffee shop. Friendly service. My only concern is that I ordered a small drink and was charged for a large, but in the end I drank it all. I believe in second chances so when I was working from home I took time to go back to Fox and Kit and see what was going on. To my pleasant surprise I heard someone order a cortado and it was quickly and successfully concocted. They now carry oat milk which is always a huge plus! Their presentation is beautiful and the workers are all very kind. I haven't visited fox and kit for 4 years. I went the other day with my 18 month old son looking forward to watching him explore. A few things were different , no attendee inside the play space checking people in. Kind of liked that. The play space though OH MY GOODNESS! It's so incredibly dirty. There were dusty bunnies all over, in every corner, thick on the surfaces, as big as cotton balls. I crawled with my son up the stairs to help him slide down the hill and that was the only time we did it. I was so grossed out. If they can't at least vacuum the dust it's obvious they are not sanitizing the surfaces at all. Also, the changing table in the bathroom was stained, yuck. I hope they read the reviews and continue to improve. Would be nice to return but I won't until I know the space is at least clean. read more

Fox & Kit is a cute, trendy little coffee shop right off Fourth Street. However, if you're looking for a coffee shop to relax in or work on your laptop, I do not recommend this place. This coffee shop is catered to families who have young children since there is a modern playground structure in the back which seems like the main production here. As far as the menu, I was impressed by the variety of drinks to order from. As I received my chai, I decided to enjoy it while sitting in one of their hanging chairs. On multiple occasions, kids would run up to swing in the hanging chair next to me as if they were at a playground. Now granted I visited on a rainy weekend when it was busy, however, I couldn't even imagine trying to work here as parents seem to let their kids run loose and the noise level is pretty high. Also, this shop doesn't even have wifi. As for the interior it is very hip and modern, however, when you look closely there are so many crumbs and stains. I really wish this was a quaint coffee shop in San Rafael as the drinks and decor are spot on. Obviously if you have kids I'm sure this is a go-to spot, however, if you don't have kids and would like a mellow coffee shop experience, look elsewhere. read more

Aside from the indoor playground and the nice employees. Nothing is great. First, very high mark up for sub par products. Second, not maintained indoor play area. Stairs could use changes in the play area. Need a carpet or less slippery material. Third, a rude owner. I thought it was just me but after talking to some parents and then seeing another comment here. I'm just astounded with the impoliteness of that person. We took the SMART train from Santa Rosa to San Rafael. This is located probably 8-10 mins walking (with a 4yr) from the station. Its a coffee spot with a indoor playground for kids. There are different areas for the kiddos to play in: a tree house-like structure which you can climb in, a reading nook (not many books), a walk-in closet full of great costumes , a fake mountain which is used as a slide, a rock-climbing wall, and, under the fake mountain is like a wood "burrow" that has some colored lights. There is an employee in the playground at all times, which is nice if you are solo with 1+ kids. I do agree with another review that the surface in the upper floor is very slippery so I would suggest you bring socks with the rubber lines on the bottom. I believe they sell socks there but might not have all sizes. You do have to pay to use the playground, there is a sibling discount and a group discount as well. I thought the price is ok, since its a big space and the 2 hour limit its fair. I had a matcha latte and it was fine, the kiddos loved the muffins. I had and overall good experience and the kids had a blast. Go check it out. read more

Super cute and cozy in San Rafael area to have some drinks and hang out. The owner was incredibly nice and was willing to provide some suggestions with drinks. I ordered the Bacon and Onion Croissant, Banana Bread, Lavender Matcha Latte, Chai Latte, Jasmine Green Tea, and a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I would say that my favorite was the Bacon and Onion Croissant. It was deliciously savory without being too salty. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the drinks as I didn't find them very flavorful. I couldn't taste the lavender or the pumpkin spice in the two lattes. The drinks are on the pricier end so it was a bummer to not have them be very tasty. The quantity of the drinks is very large though so I think if the flavor were to improve, I would definitely be buying more of them. I just have to say as someone who doesn't have any children playing there, this is a fantastic coffee shop. I love walking in and just sitting there with my coffee listening to the babble of kids and good coffee being made. Because most kids are playing in the play area it's not noisy at all and the swings by the window are a great grown up playful touch. Fox & Kit is the best coffee shop in Marin! The space is thoughtfully and beautifully designed--I wish it could be my living room. Coffee drinks are fantastic (housemade real pumpkin latte, anybody?), and the staff are super accommodating and friendly. I started coming here regularly about a month ago, and I quickly got to know everybody who works here. They learned my name and picked up on my usual drink right away. They bring the drinks to your table if they're not too busy--just really nice touches that make you feel special. The owners (Devin and Kyoko) are so nice, and they have put their heart and soul into this beautiful place that was inspired by their travels around the world. The kids' play area is awe-inspiring. My 3 elementary-school-aged kids love putting on the costumes and playing for hours. It's really great to let them play while being able to have a proper conversation with some adults. (There is a 15% sibling discount, and a 50% last-hour discount.) Can't say enough good stuff about this place! read more

So many wonderful things to say about this place. I'll cut to the chase: 1. It's beautiful inside. You walk in and it just *feels* good. The place is bright and so well-designed. 2. The coffee is GREAT. I've been to beautiful coffee shops and then disappointed by the actual coffee. None of that here. 3. Service is great. I've been in a handful of times, with and without my kids; during peak hours and during slow times; and the baristas are always welcoming, thoughtful, and kind. 4. That indoor play area is heaven for parents that need a break. This play area--I want this play area. It's so well-designed! They've made such great and inventive use of the space. And the fact that it's separated by a wall of glass means the noise is contained but I can still see my kids while seated in the coffee shop area and carry on an actual conversation. And of course, my clingy kiddos can also still see me, so they don't feel the urge to keep running back to me. 5. The details. This is a place that pays attention to the details. A few highlights include the lovely changing table in the clean and beautifully decorated bathroom; tumblers for parents and kiddos so they can enjoy their beverage in the play area without worrying about making a mess; and warming the kids' hot chocolate to exactly the right, kid-friendly temperature so that littles don't get burned but also don't complain that it's not hot. One small nit: there was pretty inconsistent enforcement of the must-wear-socks rule in the play area. My littles didn't have socks and were stopped at the door, so I bought them the $3.00 socks. When I walked in, I noticed that there were at least two little boys that were running around with no socks on. My sense is that the attendant didn't feel comfortable approaching the Lululemon moms, so some training in that area might be helpful. Doesn't change my 5 star rating though! Attractive cafe with an amazing, expansive and adorable play area for a wide range of age. Aesthetically pleasing with a wooden look and reminded me of some modernized fantasy minimalistic tree house - very IG worthy. My daughter loved it and had a great time as she joined a random group of sibling's chase game. You won't be able to sip your drink in the cafe area and keep an eye out in your kid in the play space as the two spaces are separated off. The coffee was decent (with dairy alternatives) with drink options for the little ones and several pastry selections. The hours may be a bit difficult for anyone who is not local to the area as they close up at noon on the weekends to perhaps allow time for private events/parties. It wasn't too crowded the Saturday we swung by but had this been in SF this place would surely be packed to the brim at most give times. Worth the trek across the GGB. Was pleasantly surprised to find this gem in San Rafael. At first I was worried that it would be overrun with kids, but the playground is separated from the main cafe in a way that works out for everyone and doesn't take away from the experience. Cold brew and iced tea were absolutely delicious, and the barista working was a gem. They were personable, kind and efficient all while tending bar solo, on a shift with a packed house (nice weather + a weekend afternoon = yikes rushes). Not to mention how temperamental espresso can get on a humid day, where parameters can change often over the course of a shift. From what I saw, the barista did their best to maintain the integrity of the espresso by ensuring it was dialed in correctly, while multitasking and grabbing our cold drinks at the same time. All of this with a sincere, customer-focused and positive demeanor. It's not easy to single-bar during a rush, let alone also run register and cold drinks. They did such a good job. Five stars, def recommend, will come again. read more

I wanted to give this 4 stars, but here's the problem. They raised their prices and don't have very transparent pricing. I got an iced coffee and they charged me $5... but the sign says 3.5 and there are some sizes listed, but the menu is oddly hard to follow, so its unclear with the small print and way they created their menu. They make you buy a tumbler size (which is more money) to go into the play space (which is something like $15 a kid now. I'm still not sure), so I left spending $41 to watch my kids play in an indoor treehouse for 40 mins, have one string cheese for one kid, a coffee for me, and muffin for the other. I'll probably go to PlayTek in San Anselmo or make my own coffee and go to a park instead next time. The kids do like it and the atmosphere is nice, but they usually get bored after 30-40 mins, so we'll see. I love the idea and we've been a few times, but the prices are high for the value. read more

Came in on a Friday morning around 9:30. The place had a few people taking up tables but there were still spots available. The americano I ordered was delicious. They don't have many gluten free options in the baked goods area. The atmosphere is super awesome and clean. I would have loved to put my daughter in the indoor play area but we weren't staying long. I appreciated the clean, stocked, and kid friendly/baby friendly bathroom. You can tell they've put a lot of thought into how to make their establishment child friendly and I think they've accomplished that. I told my friend in Larkspur that she should come and check it out with her daughter. We went on a sunny day so not sure how it would be on a rainy day but this is such an awesome business idea. The designerly couple behind Fox & Kit have created a space which makes me want to hang out even when I don't have a kid (or kids) in tow. The drinks are wonderful and matcha is coming soon which thrills me to no end. I must admit I was a little worried about kids trashing the beautiful place, but the friendly staff keep it clean and tidy and the kids' area is separate, so it's also not overwhelmingly loud. Pastries are tasty and just as lovely to look at as they are to eat. All baristas seem skilled at making kid-friendly (not too hot or sweet) beverages and there are more options to find in a case of yogurts and sweeter treats. I enjoy carving out a spot and working a little, being somewhat social, or journaling quietly sometimes for hours. I often have a 9-year-old with me who enjoys sliding down the hill in the play area just as much as reading in one of the more hidden areas or nooks. The owners truly thought of everything. Be sure to use a bathroom even if it's only to wash hands. They're gorgeous! This place is definitely kid-tested and parent-approved and I need to find the time to stop in more than a couple times per week because I always leave happier and peppier (thank you, caffeine and often chocolate). read more

The consensus is Fox and Kit is such a cool place where adults and kids can both have a good time. FK offers two birthday packages depends on your needs. We picked the "worry free" one where you pick a party theme (we picked under the sea) and Devin will take care everything else for you (from drinks to cupcakes to party favors). All you need to do is to show up with your kid and any additional food/drinks you might want to bring(that's not included in the package), Devin and his team will help you unload, arrange them in the plate and serve it to your guests. In addition, Devin will keep track of the time and let you know when is the time to cut the cake, let you pick what type of music you like for your guests and help gathering the kids to take group photos after the cake. Fox & Kit in San Rafael is beautifully designed with an awesome eye for ascetics. Every detail was well planned visually throughout the space, including the amazing playground for children. Their coffee however, or how they make it more specifically, is pretty bad. Temple coffee is a great coffee roaster. I've experienced their coffee in a variety of coffee shops in Northern California and I've never had a bad beverage. At Fox & Kit, the emphasis is not on coffee as this space would somewhat lead you to believe when you walk in. San Rafael is over due for a great coffee shop and Fox & Kit is not it. We ordered 2 soy milk cortados, a really good coffee drink in which to judge a barista's skills. Made by the same person, both were different and both were watery with zero flavor. They also came out 5 minutes from each other with no real explanation. There was only one person ahead of us and no one after us so the place wasn't busy (visited 10/13/18 at about 1pm). I would say if you're not there specifically to bring your children to the amazing playground, getting coffee here should not be your destination. read more

As a parent, I cannot stress how amazing a place this is in San Rafael and how lucky we are to have it. Overzealous I know but hear me out: 1. The playground for the kids is a beautifully designed passion project. 2. The coffee is amazing 3. The parking is across the street 4. The bathrooms include a full changing table and pristine. 5. $30 for 2 hours of fun for 2 kids is a bargain in the bay area. My girlfriend and I were planning to meet (with our babies) somewhere for coffee. She suggested Fox and Kit, and all I can is, "Wow!" As soon as you walk in, everything is just...aesthetically pleasing to the eye! Such friendly service. Amazing, beautiful set up from the furniture to the pretty/cute signs around the cafe. The children's area was clean, well kept, and organized. As you enter, there are benches and cubbies to take off your shoes and place your belongings. There were cute sensory viewing windows in the treehouse, a faux grass slide and area, costume room, reading nook, play cave with relaxing blue lights, and soft geometric cushions all around. The bathroom in and out of child play area has a changing table equipped with wipes, diapers, and a comfy changing cushion on top. One thing I especially loved about the whole area is that everything is pretty at a child's height and eye level. Definitely a "for the kids" type! My family and I got our share of espresso drinks and speciality drinks. We loved them all! Such a great place for parents who want to bring their children out while also being able to enjoy themselves (where your child isn't stuck to a high chair and you're worrying about how you can entertain your child while trying to enjoy a little food and drink). read more
