I went into Four Star (notice they don't even call themselves five star) with a SPECIFIC apartment in mind that I found on their website. When I went in and talked to them about how we were looking for places that allowed us to share rooms to get the rent down (four female engineering students who have done research), she told me the only place that would be applicable is the Lodge. I don't know if you guys have been to the Lodge, but those bedrooms are TINY, way too small to cram two beds in and the rent is STEEP. Like $700 per person before fees while sharing a small apartment with four girls. I had to tell her the specific property I had been looking at and then she said we could tour that apartment and the Lodge before sending us off. No other similar options given. So being optimistic, we went to the Lodge, felt disheartened, and then went to our other showing where our guide had ZERO information. Like I mean I legitimately asked her the rent and she said she wasn't sure. We asked if there was AC and she said she wasn't sure. (Side note: this is a 700sqft apartment they had four groups of four tour at once with an uninformed guide who apparently does showings there weekly) But here is the thing, I really loved the place anyway and used the ONLINE information I found and decided to go in, ask questions, and put a hold. When we went in the man we talked to did not have any information on our home, he was as clueless as we were. We asked about grounds fees and rent and he said everything grounds fee related was apart of the $150 fee that we pay when we sign the lease. He didn't know about AC, he didn't know double occupancy rules, and he didn't want to help us get anymore information on our home. He said an application would be sent out that night and that we would have 48 hours to sign the lease and bring in $3890 that does not go towards any first/last month rent, just a security deposit. SO we did not receive an application, each of us called, no responses, and we get it 9am the next day when he said it was supposed to be due. It shows they lowered our rent from what we thought so we all happily fill it out. We finish the application, and NO lease comes through for a day (past the dead line he told us we had). So, wanting the home, we still had to bring in our security deposit checks and ask about the lease. Then we finally get the lease (48hrs after going in to talk to them) and the rent is BACK UP with 130 dollars in extra fees monthly as well as a monthly grounds fee, utilities not including electric and gas (which we were told it did), saying any maintenance is the financial responsibility of the tenant, and a that there is a carpet cleaning fee that they use our deposit periodically on despite the fact they told us we get the entire deposit back at the end........ This apartment has zero carpet. Oh, and the lease has no mention of double occupancy fees, which they continuously told us will be on there, so even if we wanted to, we can't sign it before they fix our information. I love the home and location, but if they know so little of the property they say it has carpet and no washer/dryer, why would I said a fee invested money pit of an agreement? They are so hesitant to give information about the homes they rent, they really want uninformed renters. I'm so disappointed they ruined the perfect home for me, by making sharing a 700sq ft apartment cost as much as a one bedroom. read more
