This review is for the Shot Clinic only, as I did not go into the store. Four Muddy Paws hosted a shot clinic sponsored by Partners For Pets. The prices were phenomenal!!! My baby rec'd 3 shots for $27. We arrived first thing in the morning, since the clinic was from 9am-12pm on May 2nd. Four Muddy Paws is housed in a strip mall with plenty of parking and there was a bank next door that looked to be closed on Saturday so that accommodated for additional parking. The clinic was held outside in the grassy area, they had a table set up, so it was first come, first serve. The paperwork was simple and they accepted cash or card payments. The wait time wasn't bad, it took us an hour from start to finish and the staff was really nice and loving to the babies and were ready for all types...meaning if your fur-baby was scared or frightened. We rec'd a free cookie from Treats Unleashed for the fur-babies and a $5 gift card. Added a new rescue dog to my pack, so I needed a couple of things to welcome her. First thing I needed was a tag for her collar. I love the machine that they have in house for making tags. You select the one you want, an associate programs the machine and loads your new tag. Then you take over the keyboard by selecting how many lines you want. The next step is typing what you want on the tag and selecting a font. Final step is proofing and hitting the engrave button. When it's done engraving, you've got a fashionable tag for your new family member. The other item I needed was a coupler. I needed it for the seatbelt restraint. Instead of securing one dog, I now needed to make sure two dogs were safe while riding shotgun. You lost a regular customer tonight. I came in at 6:02 on a Monday to wash my dog. The store closed at seven. There was one other customer in the shop also washing his dog. I was turned away because I wasn't there by 6 PM. I could understand turning me away if the store was full and all the washbays were also. But the store was empty and there was only one washbay in use. That's just poor customer service. read more

It was time for Daisy to get a bath! She's a very skittish rescue so I've been hesitant to take her. Hubby got her out of the truck and she walked towards the door and then quickly balked and tried to run back to the truck. We had to carry her in! They are so nice here and quickly set up a bath area for Daisy. Once we started washing her she actually seemed to calm down and I think she liked it! This is a great place to wash your doggies! Everything is so convenient which makes it easy! They even have a dryer! However the dryer did scare Miss Daisy so we just used the towels to dry her. Daisy actually jumped back into the tub at one point! In and out in no time and Daisy survived just fine! The best part is I had no mess to clean up! So, I LOVE this foggy spot! It's in a super cute neighborhood, and they have everything for your foggy or puppy needs...and it's a local business! They even have stations that are $10 where you can wash your dog...especially helpful for large dogs! Got my baby, I have Crystal groom her! She gives her THE CUTEST cut, and my puppy gets compliments everywhere she goes! Crystal even sent me pics of my baby even she was finished being groomed, and, see for yourself how adorable they are!!! Also, they have puppy homemade treats, and you can even order a puppy bday cake! I love this cute neighborhood spot, and the staff there are dog experts! In all transparency I acquainted myself with this location because of their self bathing service and I love the unique treats I found here too. I don't know how staff is trained here, but they sure do enforce the one hour before closing rule for bathing. Their hours don't really cater to the working public so I do try and use them on the weekends. I had called ahead today and asked how late I could start a bath and was told that I could gauge my own time and that the bath would close at 3:15. I arrived at literally 3-301, and the young man at the counter did not greet me immediately so I said that I would like to give my dog a quick bath and knew I only had about 15 minutes to do so. Without hesitation he said it was 301 and the bath closes at 3pm. I have tried to love this place but it's hit or miss. Some staff are helpful but most of the staff I have encountered are sort of rude. I get the feeling that none of them like the self bathing their business offers. It feels like they are annoyed by it. When I have gotten to use the self serve bath services, staff monitors your every move. Do better 4Muddy Paws because you have a beautiful store - find staff that love animals especially dogs! I know that is easier said than done. If bathing services is not a profitable business for you shut it down or charge more (shampoo and conditioners are way too watered down) I hope to see more reasonable hours for the working folk. I thought I loved this place because it was so cute and the people are nice. However, when I took my little chihuahua there to get his nails clipped, they clipped his nail too short, didn't say anything, and I had to find out by the blood stain and incessant licking the whole car ride home. He's old and little so I guess they thought it didn't matter, but ten minutes later and he's still bleeding. He also has congestive heart failure, and even though he's on medication I just hope this doesn't impact that or cause further problems like an infection. I wish they would've done more for him like put a little pad on it so it wouldn't touch the ground or at least tell me so I could've been his advocate. read more

The shop itself is fine, good toy selection and natural foods. And the cashiers have always been excellent. But the next time your groomers want to criticize me out loud in the shop, they should do it when I'm not in earshot. I got a text saying from Crystal, a groomer, saying "the kids are ready to be picked up." so I texted back to verify that both dogs were finished. I did this because I've been given varying information regarding how long grooming takes from multiple people at this place in the last two days and even today was told it would be closer to 5pm. So when she loudly says to the other groomer "doesn't this girl know grammar? I said kids, that's obviously plural meaning both dogs, it can't even be made singular", she should maybe consider the entire audience. Things for management to maybe work on. Won't be back for grooming, that's for sure. read more

I love that they carry different organic foods for dogs and they also carry the brand I buy, which is Wysong and is not sold everywhere! The store is very neat, organized and it has a lot of interesting things. I bought these gorgeous food bowls and a matching cookie jar and they look fantastic. They appear to be hand-painted and are just really pretty and perfect for my little Maltese Lola :) Today is my first grooming experience there, so I'll update later if anything extraordinary happens, but I am sure it will be nice. Horrible experience. Took our dog to get groomed and when we picked him up he was making a funny noise in his throat. He hardly ate over the weekend so took him to the vet...trachea damage. When we called Four Muddy Paws, the owner starting yelling at us on the phone. He said that it didn't happen there, we can't prove anything and that we also signed a waiver. No sympathy for our dog or us in any way. Couldn't believe how we were treated by this person. When our dog was dropped off, noticed a dog chained up on table with no supervision...should have left right then. Will never go back. We love our dog too much to risk it. read more

Their prices are higher compared to retail pet shops, but that is simply based on the higher quality. The last time I was in here I asked the cashier a question about the strongest dog chew toys they had. Before she could answer, she took a phone call. I waited a long time for her to be available to help me. I tried looking around, but the store is pretty small and I felt awkward walking in circles and waiting. I found that most of their products are pretty overpriced and nothing too unique. After what felt like a long time, I finally just left the store, empty-handed. Only self service dog wash in town and they never check in on their customers to see if they need any help or have any questions. Awful customer service. We just moved to town and my husband and I walked in on a rainy Sunday afternoon with our 2 dogs for a "do it yourself" dog wash. It was 3:06pm. They close at 4:00 on Sunday and the last wash is 1 hour b4 close. We were 6 min over (we made a wrong turn trying to find it) and they would not let us wash our dogs! The front desk worker said "The guys are real sticklers about it and actually prefer 2:45 to be the last wash time." We explained we were new to town and needed to wash our dogs and would be quick and the front desk worker said "No, I'm sorry." Any small business that would turn away new customers with 2 dogs 54 min before they close is not customer friendly and obviously won't take 6 min of their time to help out a customer. Very disappointed! Not what I expected - most businesses in Edwardsville are very friendly and welcoming. Not this one :( read more

Naturally like most pet owners, I'm very particular where I take my pet for care and grooming. I try to listen to my dog and whether he's comfortable in that environment or not. When taking him for grooming I've met everyone from those that acted like they didn't like dogs to those that did but weren't very good at grooming. When I took my large OES to Four Muddy Paws, I stayed in the store "shopping" and listening to see if I could hear him wimpering or jumping up on the door to get out. He was quiet, a good sign w/ my dog. Even better when I returned to pick him up, he wasn't running me over to get out of there. He was relaxed like he was right at home and they did a great job of grooming him too. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone's dog. read more

My dogs and I have been going to Four Muddy Paws since their first location in the city. We were ecstatic when they opened the Edwardsville location! The staff always greet us by name and are very helpful if you need a recommendation on healthy food. We have used the self service baths which are needed with larger dogs like Golden retrievers so your house stays clean! They have all the supplies(natural shampoos, grooming tools, towels and low heat dryers), disinfect after every client and you leave the dog hair and water puddles at Four Muddy Paws! If you need full service grooming they have that also. They sell healthy dog foods, treats, chews and many toys that the chain stores do not sell. Yes, the dog food is more expensive but believe me it saves you money on vet visits if you have an allergy ridden pet. I believe in good quality food for myself so why not my furry family member?! I was impressed when California Naturals had a recall last year and they called me to return the bag! I do not think any chain store would know you bought it or encourage you to return the bag. The stores have the best of the best commercial dog foods you can buy, plus raw options, bones and all sorts of top notch treats and useful supplements. They have unusual and beautiful gift items for dogs and for dog owners; unusual leashes and collars so that your furkid can be the most stylish on your block, the the canine bakery items are a fantastic healthy treat for your pooch. Bathing facilities are perfect, sparkling clean and user friendly. Cannot speak high enough of either store - go take a look! They are also super friendly and support local rescues in a big way.
