The day before Valentine's Day, I woke up to a sick dog. I called my vet immediately and let them know what was going on. After my description, they knew she needed to seen pronto. Unfortunately they couldn't squeeze her in and recommended an emergency clinic. My vet is in STL and since I now live on the Eastside of the river, I choose Hawthorne. When I looked at the reviews on Yelp, I became concerned, but I needed a vet fast. I called, told them the issues and they said, to come on in. Wow, the staff was so attentive and caring to me and my fur-baby when we arrived. We were promptly escorted to an exam room and the vet tech was professional and thorough in asking questions to help us resolve the problem my dog was having. When the vet came to the exam room, she was very loving to my baby and explained what they determined the health issue to be. It was what I thought it was, she had an abscessed tooth. What impressed me was, how they coordinated care with my regular vet. I had my vet on the phone and as a team we all worked to see who could get her in for the tooth extraction the fastest. My vet could get her in the fastest. To make things easier for me and my vet, Hawthorne offered to do the prep bloodwork and send it to my vet. We both appreciated that. When I lived in STL, I had multiple emergency clinics to choose from when a need would arise. Now on the Eastside, there are not that many to choose from, but if there were, I'd still choose Hawthorne. I was impressed with the service and care I received and I am a picky dog dad.

This review is for emergency services & ICU care for our 12 year old husky. He received surgery here and stayed for 3 days. I was told an estimated price up front. Yes, it was an unnerving number (Especially after my vet gave me a quote that was half the price but they didn't have the time nor manpower to get it done). I understand why you are paying so much for emergency services. My dog was seen and cared for by at least 5 drs, plus all of the techs. My dog had round the clock monitoring and quick care because of the manpower provided here. My animals dr called me every morning and every evening. There were some staff that had more calming and reassuring communication styles but non the less the same information was passed by all. The waiting area was large and facility was always clean (smelled more like a sterile hospital then a place full of animals). I was always quickly greeted by someone, sometimes multiple people checked in on me. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was what felt like a lack of bedside manners. I was asked to pay upfront, in full, before my dog was even cared for. I was just really scared and stressed at that point so it didn't feel great BUT I understand they need to get paid

If I could give ten stars I would! My fiancé and I brought our kitty Hank in recently for an emergency surgery and they worked with us to help find a price plan that wasn't totally out of our range. They did an excellent job with him and the whole time Amanda reassured us that Hank would be just fine. She really made the night so much easier for us. They gave us several different kinds of special diet food to try for Hank's health issues so he could pick the one he liked, and even sent us a follow-up text to check on him a few days later. Hank was back to his normal self only one day after he was discharged. They did an excellent job.

My dog was very ill, the amount they wanted just for us to walk in the door was nothing less than criminal.

So I hear great things about the day care, but what about the grooming?…read moreIs the grooming a reasonable price? I dropped my dog off today. It took them 2 hrs and 30min to bath my dog. I was getting really nervous cause it usually doesn't take them that long. Finally they called me to pick him up. When I got there It took them 20min to bring my dog out from the back. when they brought out my dog. they cut him and said it was a itty bitty scratch. when I got home and looked at it. It was this big GASH!!! very DISAPPOINTED!! My dog is only 2Ibs and 11 months old. I WILL NOT BE COMING HERE AGAIN!!! They still made me pay for the big gash that they did to my dog. I have sincerely loved shopping at and getting Hank groomed at Whisker Bones' home store for the last year. The staff is incredible, the treats are fantastic, and Hank's grooming has been so perfect! I really hoped the boarding facility would live up to the parent company reputation, but I was sadly so mistaken. We took our dog (a golden retriever puppy who lives up to every stereotype of such) to the mandatory screening/interview session to see if he could be permitted to attend daycare or boarding- standard practice, good idea, I totally agree with the concept. However, the assessor (I don't know his name, but he's a young man with a nose ring) brought in two very aggressive dogs who upset mine. My husband had to pull the "host dog" off of ours on two separate occasions because it got way to aggressive and dangerous. The host dog growled and barked, bore his teeth, and actually jumped all over our dog- twice! The assessor also said the host dog had earned the nick name of "the controller" since he apparently didn't like other dogs and felt the need to control them. Then, the assessor "evaluated" our dog on a scale of green light (passable), yellow light (cautionary, should not board), and red light (no day care, no boarding, beware), and considered our dog "yellow light" due to his "aggressive behavior." When in reality, the host dogs were so aggressive that hey had earned nick names for themselves as such, and my husband had to physically pull the host dog off of ours. It was truly such a heart breaking experience. I cried on the way home because I was so upset about the treatment of our dog. I'm sincerely disappointed, and I hate to give negative feedback, but I feel like it's very important that I share this experience. Club WB might be too new to see their weaknesses, but I would start with the assessor and the dogs he chooses to mingle with incoming pups to get a real pulse for it all. Today's experience was an actual true shame.

The vet had advised me that this is very highly contagious and that they could bleach everything but unless they closed their facility down for 2 weeks they. Were not going to clean this out as it is airborne of course they have not done that and I am very sure that this is going to continue to pass. Around to everyone's pets. Not to mention after a year and a 1/2 of going there never once had they asked me until just a few months ago for his shot record so they're. Apparently, differentiating between "Illinois" and "South Carolina" is not something they teach at vet tech school. But if they can't get basic literacy right, then what else are they screwing up? I wanted to understand what was going on because my cats can't speak for themselves and it's my duty to protect them. Then out of nowhere, the veterinarian, Dr. Schilling, accused me of "insulting" the vet tech. This is a lie, one that goes to the very heart of Dr. Schilling's character (or lack thereof). But even before that, speaking with Dr. Schilling was frustrating because she does not converse like a medical professional or even an adult. If concern for my pets makes me a bad man -- if concern for my pets makes me "insulting" -- then I'm guilty as charged. But I suspect everyone reading this review is guilty of the same. I rounded up my little guys and immediately got them out of that dark and sad little place, away from these insane and unprofessional people. As other reviewers have noted, it's important to keep in mind they'll take your money long before they see your pets. I understand why now.
