We made an impromptu decision to go out for dinner and ended up here--and I'm so glad we did! The Old Fashioneds were absolutely delicious, and the rock candy garnish was such a fun touch--I could've eaten a whole jar of it. I ordered the Swiss mushroom burger, and it was perfectly juicy and flavorful. The fries were crispy and well-seasoned, just how I like them. Went in last weekend. As someone that's worked in restaurants, It's really annoying to see when a restaurant is busy and not all hands are on deck. Management is more concerned about yapping to each other and joking around than going around greeting any tables or checking in on them. I don't think I saw one manager run a plate of food. read more

The food is decent but the owner is not very welcoming to people outside of his community. He will go around to all the tables and great them and ask if their food is to their liking but not to the other customers. I will spend my money elsewhere where they are welcoming to a diverse population. It's sad because the waiters/waitresses are kind but they'll soon be groomed how to treat certain customers poorly. I ordered a single burger, kitchen sent out a double. No big deal, but a single is already pretty large. Table next to us had their burger messed up a different way. Rough night for the kitchen maybe. Bacon was good, burger was decent, worth the $15 price tag but not more. Wouldn't go for the $19 double unless you're super hungry. Comes with a couple potatoes worth of fries that were great, reminds me of fresh 5-guys fries. Wife got a shrimp and pasta dish. Shrimp wasn't very fresh, not much sauce, little taste, hardly worth the hefty $25 price tag. Service was alright. Ended up at $57 for the two entrees and a cheesy bread starter before tip. Wouldn't go back, but wouldn't tell someone to stay away either. read more

Founders is conveniently located along Ritchie Hwy in "The Dena". Parking is plentiful. Upon entry, we were greeted and seating immediately. Decor is minimal but it serves its purpose. After perusing the menu, I decided on Chesapeake boneless wings and a Garden Pesto Pizza. A Tropical Bourbon Smash was my cocktail of choice. This restaurant was once our "go to" neighborhood place for quaint ambiance, great wings, comfort food, and well-made cocktails. While the server was pleasant and attentive and the fried chicken was cooked to perfection, it was bland to the taste and the rigatoni noodles took over my shrimp scampi dish. It didn't even help to add extra lemon sauce. I ordered a specialty drink that was advertised with peach but it didn't taste peachy - not even an undertone. The worst part was that it was my birthday and I was not in the mood for putting a complimentary candle on any of the deserts. This hidden gem surprised me. They said it'd be a 30 min wait, we waited 45 but not a big deal. To share, we had the crab dip. It was good, very cheesy. Serves about 4 as a small app. For my entree I had a Caesar salad with Nashville hot chicken on top. This was super yummy! Loved their dressing and the sauce on the chicken. The staff is friendly and attentive, very clean inside. The only downside is it is so incredibly loud inside the restaurant, it's hard to hear your table talk. A solid Maryland crab soup and I'm feeling good. My wife got the Tavern Burger and I got the Portobello Mushroom sandwich. Both came with some standard fries. The burger was good and the Portobello mushroom was fine; our waitress talked it up as being a humongous mushroom cap and, at least compared to the bun, was kind of small and anemic-looking. It tasted fine, but I guess I was hoping for more. We finished off the meal with a caramel cookie, which was delightfully gooey in the skillet. We were in the area and I remember seeing this spot on Yelp, so we stopped in. We were seated after a short wait. Taylor was our server. She was extremely attentive and pleasant. We ordered a few things to share. Garlic parm boneless wings, chili cheese fries, cheese fries and pepperoni pizza The fries were absolutely fantastic. We had somewhat of a mixed experience here. Service was efficient but felt rushed-even though we were the only ones there. (perhaps the waiter was in a hurry with other duties??) The Cream of Crab soup was delicious. The Fried Chicken was the best we've had in this area and is truly a destination food. The mashed potatoes-although whipped-were very good. The glazed carrots were also good and cooked just right to tender but not mushy. (and I really appreciated how they were cut) Unfortunately, the pizza was a disappointment with a soggy crus, as was the open roast beef sandwich which was thin gnarly meat served over limp fries with thin, rather tasteless gravy. Bottom Line: Always a solid experience at this unexpected shopping center restaurant. I am long overdue to update my review for Founders Tavern & Grill. Located in a non-descript shopping center Founders is a hidden gem. The interior is cozy, the staff are friendly and the food is tasty and comforting. I would describe Founders' menu as American comfort food and to wash down all that goodness they offer a full bar and specialize in whisky. The menu includes salads, appetizers, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and entrees. On my most recent visit I got the Blacksmith Chicken Alfredo which was very good but super rich. Some of my go-tos include Shrimp & Grits, the Tavern Burger and the Maryland Crab Dip. We visited during COVID and we were pleased to see all of the safety measures being used like distanced tables, reduced capacity, mask wearing, hand sanitizer and QR code menus. Also, I was glad to see a healthy stream of vehicles coming and going for curbside pick up. Kudos to all the restaurants who are keeping us well fed during this pandemic! read more

Founders is one of those places you might not always think of, but once you do...you go. Burgers are great, pizza is pretty impressive & simple good . I'm not into their fries. ( lose a star) I like a good old fashion French fry, simple, plain, crisp that adds to the burger for a great meal. The apps are a hit or miss, but still order them for that hit! However, the restaurant was not busy and the host staff was great. We were seated as soon as we arrived. Our server was great in recommend the specials for the night. Her service was very tentative and detailed. The ambiance is great it is a nice place if you don't feel like dressing up but still want to enjoy impeccable food. Service for a table of 12 should have a waitress check often if everyone's needs are met, ie drink refills. Needs improvement there. Waitress was nice, meals came within reasonable time. I ordered the Tavern Smash burger with cheese and med well. Burger was definitely over cooked but not horrible, French fries were not hot. After food was served no waitress to follow up with any problems. When she finally came my drink needed a refill and she took my plater back to the kitchen when I asked for hot fries. Oh I got hot fries......it was my same fries thrown into the deep fryer and returned. I saw on FF i partially ate and realized they were cold. Glad tip was all ready included with the bill however, how can you challenge a lesser tip without embarrassing yourself? Oh yeah $2 up charge for a piece of cheese! Yikes! read more

The best meal I've had in the Baltimore area this trip, and that says a lot! We came here for family dinner. Arrived at 7 PM so it was a little busy and we waited about 15 minutes. Once we were seated our server was right there to take our drink order. Drinks were out pretty quick and we ordered our meals. Two of us had the open faced roast beef and two had the pizza. When I say the roast beef was amazing, IT WAS. So flavorful and tender, the gravy thick and full of flavor as well, and the fried just the right amount of crisp and salt. I nearly licked the plate when I was done. I love the environment and feel of this place. The large tables with the huge flag and old maps of capital cities, it's got a great, unique look. The staff were all attentive and amazing as well. This spot is one of the best in the area, hands down. I'll be back on my next visit to the Baltimore area. read more
