If you are looking for a good bra; I mean a REALLY good bra, then you should go to Forty Winks. They can be a little pricey, so you have to be committed to finding a good bra, but it is so worth it. I went in on a Saturday morning and asked one of the owners (perhaps Rachel) to fit me (I have been told so many different sizes from VS or department stores, that I seriously needed some help! The customer service here was to die for. She told me that they had opened up the store as a place to handhold people (if needed of course) through the process of finding the right bra. It's like the Holy Grail for bras!! I thought these days were long gone. Not only did she help me find what style and type of bra will work best, I was shocked when she recommended a soft cup because I doubted it would give enough lift and support. I was wrong. She fit me in a Chantalle bra that has a 3-part cup (meaning it has structure even though it is a soft cup). It was perfect! Since I have good size breasts on a smaller frame (32DD) I don't need the super-padded round-shaped cups. My breasts have never looked so naturally beautiful and, while I do have the lift and support, they have a more natural, feminine shape. She also helped me pick out a sexier black bra that is demi so it could be worn with lower cut shirts. This place has a good selection and they special order things for you to the store, so you can try them on with no commitment. The owners clearly love their business, are extremely knowledgable, and generally love helping you find the right bra. Its a great atmosphere and if you commit yourself to paying (I paid $70 per bra, which was midrange) for that GREAT bra, the one that fits to and accentuates your body PERFECTLY, then this is the place to go. Give them some time to fit you, find the right style, buy a bra, and walk out of the store feeling like a new woman. You will no longer be one of the large percentage of Americans that have no idea what their size is and walk around with horrible horrible fitting bras. This place is awesome! read more

Women of Earth: you know those condescending articles that are always yelling at you about how "80% of women wear the wrong bra size?" Well, they're right, but it is NOT your fault: it's the fault of the 80% of companies that use misleading sizing methods (Victoria's Secret and many department stores included) and/or don't offer the right range of sizes. Forty Winks is not one of these places. Seriously, come here. They know what they are doing, and they have a good selection of (pretty! youthful! not boring!) lingerie in the sizes that most women actually need. They will put in you in the right size, and that size might surprise you. When I walked in and said I was looking to see what they had in a 32F, the woman didn't bat an eye, or give me the "but you don't LOOK that big!" comment I get in a lot of stores (32F, FYI, falls pretty squarely in the "average" range on the full spectrum of bust sizes). I was pleased with the selection they had in brands like Panache--pretty colors and styles up to (I think) an H-cup. While the specific models they carried just happened to be ones that don't work as well for me shape-wise, the woman helping me definitely knew what she was doing, and got me into the best possible size in each one. She was also honest; she was like, "Yeah, this one just may not be the right shape for you," instead of trying to convince me that it was "supposed to fit that way" (another issue I often have when bra shopping!). She even brought me a bra to try that she thought would work well for my shape. And she guessed correctly--it happened to be one I already own and love. :) I was impressed. (This is where I should point out, if you can't already tell, that I am a super annoying bra nerd and know way more about lingerie than probably anyone should.) They also carry "edgier" brands like Huit, Else, and Fortnight, which usually can only be found online in the U.S. I do wish they carried more stock of small-band, large-cup brands and styles. The woman helping me even commented that "32F is one of our more popular sizes, we always run out of them quickly," so I wish they'd carry those sizes in more of their brands! It seems like it would make sense to offer more larger-cup styles, since most women, after being correctly fitted (which they do well here), end up going down in band size and up in cup size (many women who think they're a 32B, for instance, find they're much better off in a 28D. Victoria's Secret's fitting method laughably puts me at 36D, when I really need at least 32DDD/F). Still, their offerings are better than like 90% of places that sell bras, so I am certainly not complaining. Summary since this is way too long: you should get fitted and buy your lingerie here. They're great. Their offerings are beautifully, thoughtfully curated. I'm a nerd and not a normal customer. :) read more

Let me first say that I found this place to be so awful, I actually created a yelp account to warn people about it. I usually subscribe to the "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" school of thought, but my experience was so terrible, I had to warn people! Recently, two of my favorite bras have decided to start falling apart, so I decided I'd use my grad student stipend to treat myself to some lovely new ones. A friend recommended Forty Winks, which was pretty close to my house. Big mistake. First of all, I was slammed with sticker shock walking in the door - $70-90 for a bra?!! Maybe for a really nice one, but most of the bras at Forty Winks are of similar quality to $20 bras from Target. They also didn't have many in my size, but I can't fault them for that; they did try to help me find ones in my size. So I took an assortment into the changing room. The clerks ask me if I need any help, and I say no. Well, shortly after, one of the clerks THROWS BACK THE CURTAIN of my changing room, staring at me standing there in my bra and skivvies. She says, "I don't think that's your size. I think you're a bigger cup and a smaller band." Whoa, what?! First of all, she didn't even ask if she could open the curtain. Maybe some people appreciate ithis kind of customer service, but I'm a survivor of sexual abuse and I DO NOT like people to see me naked. Also, I have biopsy scars on my left breast, and I don't like people to see these. (Also, I found it quite condescending to assume that she knew my bra size better than I did. I've lived with these boobs for years, you've only just met them today.) Basically, I spent the next fifteen minutes in the changing room trying not to cry or hyperventilate. When I finally worked up the courage to leave the changing room, I handed the bras back to the clerk and couldn't bring myself to say goodbye or thank you. Because I love lingerie so much and I literally just stumbled upon this gorgeous boutique by sheer chance, I am now in heaven in Harvard Square! A girl needs to feel cute, feminine and sexy under her clothes, or at least I like to! When I walked into this shop I was so surprised to meet the owner, a girl who I've been chatting with for ages at another boutique, unexpected and so nice! I got a great welcome we and sat on the comfortable sofa up front and talked boys and underwear, you know, the usual girly lunch-time conversation ;-) I love to see young women start their own business and succeed. They are so friendly, these girls, but professional at the same time and I think this is imperative for the success of any customer facing business. They have one of my fave designers, Cosabella, so feminine and lacy and sexy..bright pink, yellow, red and purple...omg...which one to chose, I had no idea but I had to get back to work and this was complete torture. Seriously, I could have stayed there for a while and because the atmosphere is so geared toward feel good purchases, I would have loved a martini and...ok I'm getting out of hand here...I departed the pretty Forty Winks only to vow to come back again soon when I have more time and I also have a special occasion to wear my new cutie-pie purchases ;-) read more

I am happy to report that Forty Winks has totally won me over now. I continued to pop in every now and then hoping that they would start to stock some more interesting cult brands. And slowly they did. A Maison-Close bra I still regret not buying showed up and then they started adding a few sweet Eberjey pieces. Their real find was Zinke. A gorgeous brand I had never heard of, which for this lingerie junkie is saying a lot. I am really excited to see what else comes into the store. Still wasn't tempted enough to buy anything but then it totally happened. I walked in a few days ago and it was an instant lust that immediately wreaked havoc on my wallet despite the fact that I had told myself I would be good and save more. Luckily my boyfriend thought the little things I was trying on looked banging and bought me a little something extra I wanted. Stopped by today with the intention of picking up a simple laundry accessory but ended up buying 3 bras! They have very high quality bras that are not only supportive of a large chest, but also very cute. 5 stars though is really due to the staff who are friendly and do not aggressively push products onto you. They were really helpful in pulling bras for me, checking in as I tried them one, bringing new sizes and put on no pressure to spend money. In fact, as the saleswoman brought me 3 new bras to try on she said "Since you liked the black one, I brought you the purple one. It's on sale." I really wanted to like this place but I didn't have a welcoming experience. I was there this weekend and I didn't get greeted once or asked if I needed assistance (Yes, I did). But I needed bras and found a couple Chantelle's that I liked and purchased. However, their selection of underwear leaves much to be desired. I was sick and tired of paying $50+ for crappy VS bras. If you want a proper bra sizing and some options for different breast shapes this is the place for you. It's definitely pricey, so while I tried on numerous bras I only left with two. The employees were very helpful and understanding of what I was looking for. My breasts are not very full on top and one of the employees found some very beautiful AND comfy bras. I'll definitely be returning once I save up some money. i'm a lingerie junkie. it's a problem. i see lace and ribbons and i go all weak in the knees. i keep telling myself i can stop at any time, but let's be honest. i'll be an addict for life. now that you know that, you can understand that my lingerie standards are fairly high. and forty winks fits the bill perfectly. it has the feel of a little french boutique, but without the invasive french sales ladies. i went in after work one day (they were having their grand opening celebration later that night) and fell in love. after finding some gorgeous items, i had a nice chat with one of the owners. she was sweet, helpful, and gave me the discount that was only supposed to happen during their party later. so i pretty much loved her. they have a wide selection of delightful feminine pieces from hanky panky to honeydew to fancier french labels. it's fanciful and beautiful...exactly what lingerie should be!!! read more

Bras never seem to fit me properly. Shopping for them is pretty low on my list of fun things to do. The last time I went into a VS, I broke out in a sweat and felt an almost uncontrollable urge to run away screaming. Forty Winks is an oasis of fabulous lingerie and awesome-friendly-knowledgable staff. I have never considered myself a lingerie person, but they say when you meet the right bra, you know. I know that the staff quickly identified bras that suited me perfectly (and they were wicked cool). The selection of other lingerie in the store is pretty sweet, too. Here's the unbelievable part: I thoroughly enjoyed my shopping experience. It's a long road to recovery from VS-induced mall shopping trauma, but I believe with regular visits to Forty Winks I'll make a full recovery. Oh yeah, and they have a bedazzled stapler. I have been putting off a bra fitting for the better part of my adult life and admittedly refrain from wearing a bra unless I absolutely have to. I had tried a few other stores before coming across Forty Winks and left completely frustrated and discouraged. I had never done a bra fitting before and am so glad I went to Forty Winks for my first go at it. The people there are extremely nice and accommodating and boy do they know their bras. My sizing had been totally off and they helped me find a bunch of different styles in the right size, always offering feedback when asked. I heard about this boutique through another boutique's blog, and I figured, why not check it out? I'm in Harvard Square a lot, and I'm always on the hunt for a great fitting bra. Walking in, it was a breath of fresh air. Literally, it was hot as hell outside (the smells of the square leave a lot to be desired) and the AC was blasting and the interiors were just gorgeous! The interior decorator certainly had already worked her magic with the cozy feel alone. But then the bras! Oh the bras! And the nightgowns! And the thongs! So pretty, and one of the employees (can't remember her name) was so helpful! She thought of every possible option and made sure to check on me just enough so I felt the love, but not too much so I felt annoyed. I didn't end up buying any bras, just a Hanky Panky, but I asked if she could take down the brands/sizes I liked and she was so great - I cannot say enough about how sweet the two women (I think the they are the owners) were! 100% positive experiences. A friend recommended this place 2 years ago when I was starting my first non-poverty job, since I thought I should have professional looking boobs to go with the role. Exceeded expectations. No longer are bras ill-fitting unmitigated painful torments! Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable and helpful and useful. I've been back in a few times for myself, and I brought my mom in earlier this year to get her properly fitted and outfitted (although mom was scandalized by the crotchless panties on display). Last night I brought in a lady friend who's only ever worn bralettes because bras are scary and expensive. She was wary setting out, but staffer Lindsay (apologies if she uses a variant spelling) was an utter delight, characteristically knowledgeable, quickly putting her at ease, sizing her up (without a measuring tape because I guess her colleague hid it earlier that day), and bringing out some great options. The place is super cute! I loved looking around there, but it's super expensive. Also, unlike some other reviewers have said, I found one thing in my size the entire time I was there. There was a lot of stuff on sale at the time, but not a single thing in my size there. The underwear don't feel like great material, and I've liked others better from cheaper stores. That being said, I LOVE their delicates spray and if you're looking for a special occasion, it would be worth the price. If they would've had more in my bra size I would've probably considered going back when I had something special to shop for. read more

This is my absolute favorite lingerie store. The salesladies are always friendly. I could be holding one or two bras for just a minute, and one of the salesladies always offers to hang the bras in the dressing room as I continue to sift through other apparel. Speaking of bras, I love that they have a wide range of sizes to accommodate women with different body types. Plus they have a decent range of colors and styles for bras and underwear considering how small the store is. After having my son and nursing for almost 2 years I was in desperate need of a good bra fitting and needed to purchase a full restock of diverse bras. Thankfully , when I came in I was immediately greeted and was able to communicate my situation, preferences, and tried on more than a dozens bras of different styles. I walked away with a full bag and a new place to go to whenever I need to purchase sexy bras and panties. I would definitely recommend Forty Winks. I hope they increase their inventory of matching bras and panties sets so I don't have to mix and match. However even with the mix and matching you can still come away with a great look. I was getting ready for a boudoir photo shoot and was in desperate need of some sexy but not trashy outfits. The girls at Forty Winks were brilliant! I gave them an idea of what I was thinking and then they placed me in a dressing room and started bringing me fabulous things. And I am NOT a fan of trying on undergarments since I don't really like to check myself out in the mirror too often. However, I felt that my assistant treated me like I was a million bucks! All professional, helpful and fabulous! To her I wasn't too fat, disproportioned, or in need of changing one bit of my body. I was beautiful and all I needed was the right bra to prove it! I went in here today when it was pretty busy, and I still feel that the person who helped me (Rachel) was very attentive, listened to what I wanted and had great suggestions, knew her business inside out, and was professional and friendly. They had a wide selection and it wasn't knock-your-eyes-out expensive ($40-$80 range for a bra - and this bra makes my boobs look AMAZING. Not to TMI you). The size I'd been wearing was way off and Rachel figured out what fit me perfectly without measuring in about three bras. I was impressed. I did read the negative reviews and I want to address them: the girl that was walked in on without a knock or a warning is completely justified in her complaint, and that really sucks, but it definitely seems to be an isolated incident - at least nothing like that happened while I was there. And the two-star that says there's no selection except in smaller sizes - I completely disagree. I wound up being a 32F, and there was TONS to choose from, plain and fancy, all different styles. So I definitely recommend this place with five thumbs up. I'll never shop for bras anywhere else again! read more
