I do not live here, but was traveling for a wedding and in need of clogs for my surgery rotations. The owner was so kind and patient! She brought tons of shoes for me to try on and ultimately I ended up with a lovely pair of maroon Sanita clogs. I have worn these clogs every day for the semester and I was able to stand long hours even while pregnant. They are truly water proof, very comfortable and anti-slip. I regret to say I share in some of the past visitors' terrible experiences. I used to shop here regularly (for the last decade), and it was a seasonal treat to go there. This year, after orchestrating a rare visit to town from my mother (who has dementia): I thought I would take her there and get her stocked up on Fall socks. Because she has memory issues, she can get a bit confused, so I had to model a pair of socks for her, and had gathered the ones we'd chosen to buy in a pile near the cash register, when suddenly I heard the owner (who I thought knew me as a valued customer) start shouting at us. She called my startled (elegant, fragile) mother "Gross!" and said "Get out of here! You disgust me!" (this was in front of 5 customers, who were also trying on socks and shoes). I informed her that I had intended to buy the socks and that my mother was ill, but she continued shouting and humiliating her and insisting we leave. I told her her behavior was unethical and shocking, and that I would never shop there again. And I would urge any future customers to do the same. read more

Please see all the other reviews about the horrible owner of this store, they are absolutely accurate. I live in the area and found this store on the Birkenstock website as an authorized retailer, and stopped by having no idea the sort of person I was about to encounter. This is the kind of person that is so clearly unhappy that they just cannot help take it out on any customer that walks in wanting to browse or try things on instead of buy something then and there. She immediately asked if I was there to actually buy shoes, which was a really bizarre thing to say. I told her I was just looking around, and she treated me like garbage afterwards. I mentioned that I bought a pair of these sandals online, and she got real bitter complaining that "the online thing is putting shops like hers out of business". It got really bad at the end though. I explained that I'm looking to replace my old pair of birkenstock sandals soon and they feel like they don't exactly fit right, so I wanted to check that off my list and confirm the proper size since birkenstock sizes for both length and width. She snarled at me and said "Oh so you're just using me for a fitting service" and then turned her back on me and walked away. I then said "Summer is around the corner and I live nearby", and she snapped again and said with a nasty attitude "Well maybe we'll get the sale then". Not the brightest crayon in the crayon box, because I would've otherwise come back when I decided to replace my sandals. It's not "the online thing" that is causing her business to suffer, it's just the bad customer service from her miserable personality. A wonderful place that made me smile from the moment I walked in! I love bright fun colors and this store is cheery. I also love shoes, boots, clogs, socks ok you get the point. I was greeted and helped by who I assume is the owner. She took the time to ask me what I was looking for and showed me some samples so I could touch and see the different fabrics. She gives solid advice based on each customer and what they are looking for. She was wonderful with another older lady and was honest in why she thought a particular style would be better suited. I went looking for tights since I too hate buying them just to wear them once or twice and throw them away. I also hate socks that I have to pull up ALLL THE TIME, YES ALLL! I bought 2 pairs of black tight in 2 different weights (one for cold and one for chilly days) and 3 pairs of short socks. I went with the boring since I need them for work but they have amazing and awesome colors that are just so much fun = big smile. I am looking for boots and clogs too. I tried on a combo pair of clog boots and they were so comfy. I really loved them but they were $310 and in olive - Just couldn't. It would have much much harder to walk away had they been in black or brown for work since they were just amazing. I asked if I could order but they had just gotten in this order and wouldn't be any time soon. The others that I thought I might like have already sold out and she will be getting more in soon. I'll try the tights and socks and then go back to get some fun colors and see what new boots have come in. Wow, this was THE best customer/shopping experience I have ever had. I came in with my parter looking for clogs for a medical setting, and the store owner immediately helped us find the perfect shoe. She is clearly an expert on foot care and posture and gave such helpful insights on all aspects to look for in a clog/shoe. She gave an in-depth recommendation based on walking pattern, foot anatomy, time spent standing, environment, and other factors that will be helpful for years to come. In all, she spent about 40 minutes with us in the store pulling different shoes to try on and giving guidance (without being overbearing as can sometimes happen in boutique stores). I left not only with a high quality, well priced pair of clogs that fit perfectly but also with a better understanding of foot needs and anatomy! Highly recommend this shop! read more

Good place if you like European comfy & quirky shoes. Very Cambridge sort of store. Excellent place for socks and hosiery. You'll find all sorts of socks there - cashmere & angora - colorful striped hose - nice casual socks in cool prints. But the shoes are expensive - most start around $70 and go up to $300. At the end of every year, they have a clearance sale where you can find shoes and socks there for 20-40% off - cash only. I got a great pair of Think! shoes for $120 when it normally retailed for $240 then. read more

I have tried so many times to shop in this store because the shoes are so cute!! But it is the same experience every time! The owner and most-times sales person is so unbelievably rude (as previous reviews have stated). A simple question in the middle of the buying process (that just required a yes or no answer) was met with such a rude response, that I up and left. The sales people and owners have always been engaging, they do have personalities but that is the best part! I hit the jackpot! I do believe when I phoned them today I "met" the female owner who so many are writing about. What an experience. It was quite humorous. I phoned and asked "Do you carry Arcopedico shoes?" (She: Yes.) "I am looking for the yellow ones". (She: We would never carry YELLOW shoes! !) "Well, that certainly is an interesting comment to make to a customer. I want to buy the yellow Arcopedico runners". (She: We would NEVER sell any yellow shoes!) To me that was very funny (and unbelievably rude and odd). I replied that this is why I read a number of Yelp reviews commenting on her rudeness. Hands up, anyone, who dares to own a pair of yellow shoes! Hey! I own a pair of yellow clogs made in Sweden and Swedes know their clogs! I was in Cambridge today and thought of walking up to her store to "check it out" in person and hear her disdain in person; but it was farther away than I thought for the purpose of mere curiosity. So, back in Seattle I shall buy my yellow Arcodpedicos and wear them with pride! (I grew up in Boston, so it is not just a Seattle or Swedish thing). So it made me feel better to read other reviews and see that I shouldn't take the fact that I was treated so badly on a personal level. Please keep in mind, I am not known as someone to have the highest self esteem so being treated like total shit when I want to spend money at a local business really put a damper on my day. Here was my experience: I have little cash but saved up to get a pair of clogs. I was super excited to finally get a pair of quality, comfortable shoes. I went in and immediately felt like I was judged (not only by the owner). - I asked if I could see how the shoes looked in a mirror, and the sales girl said, "oh, these shoes are about the comfort and prefer our customers don't buy these shoes because of how they look in them". What the hell? -So, I apologized and explained that my intention was to buy the shoes for comfort but I want to make sure I can wear them with not only pants as $110 is a LOT of money for me. -SHe responded with, "Why? What do you do?" In a really rude way. I told her I was in social work and she gave me a look. -Whatever, I finally decided on a pair. I wish I just walked out but I didn't know the awesome selection Berks had back then. There was a chick at the register (perhaps the owner) who looked at me straight in the face and said, "You know, we can tell if you've worn these and tried to return them". Super helpful and friendly staff -- I saw they had a variety of dog socks in stock, but not Rottweilers. Asked about it and within a week I got a call about my Rottweiler socks at the store. There was a little yappy mean dog in there (I am guessing it was the owner's)...well, I am afraid of dogs and I was trying to be nice and opened the door and poked my head in and asked if it was safe to open the door you know so your little effing yapping dog doesn't oh, I don't know, run off into mass ave rush hour traffic?! She gave me this dismissive look and I came in and stayed for a whole 9 seconds and left. I did not feel welcome. I came back a few days later and a nicer girl was working and I felt bad that she had to work here. I looked at the tights, clogs, socks and thought that I would find better deals online. I'm not gonna lie.. I'm a Fat Calves McGee. You may have seen my thread. So what's a girl to do.. when she LOVES skirts and is not down with pants (well.. er.. we're not going to get into it) when wintertime hits? Boots and tights, friend. Boots and tights. Maybe it was the flower in my hair and that baby face I have, but I didn't get the vibe that the staff at Vintage, Etc. was "bitchy" at all. Going through these reviews now, it seems like a lot of people have had bad experiences but I thought the staff was great! When I was there this weekend, there were two women working. I'm not quite sure if one or the other was the owner but both were super helpful. We talked about the gloriousness of tights and about where I work. Vintage has a large collection of Hue tights (opaques in fun colors) which I LURV. Probably the most varied collection I've seen in Boston.. I usually get mine from Macy's downtown but they can have an unreliable selection (you see a color you want one week and it's gone the next). They also have great designs that come from all over the place.. but Hue is really what I rely on for a good, warm, long lasting pair of tights. OOH! And I also found my birthday present to myself. haha.. There are these awesome Canadian boots that are for those women with my.. enhanced.. body parts. :) They tie up in the back and have some extra material inside the boot so that if the boot needs to stretch there isn't just bare skin hanging out. One of the women saw me looking at the boots and we started talking about calves. Apparently this particularly boot goes way up there in calf size. To go with the boot.. she showed me all these leg warmer type socks that go higher up on your leg to extend the warmth from your boot to your thigh. So cute and made from all over the world. I will most definitely be back in January to report on my purchase! read more

When I was a server, I bought my shoes here exclusively. The staff knows their clogs. I've never really had an issue with customer service, like a lot of other Yelpers here, but maybe I was lucky. This store got me addicted to clogs. They hooked me up with my first pair (wooden) and then helped me find some kickass Danskos. If you work in "the industry" (ie: you're a server), you can show the staff a pay stub and get a 10% discount. This might hold true to medical professionals too, but don't quote me. The young lady who owns and operates this store really knows how to make customers feel welcome. I walked in wearing a bunch of motorcycle gear, but I was wearing kitchen pants. She spotted them immediately and knew right away what kind of clogs I was looking for. She pulled several down off the shelf and helped me choose the right pair, which I am, in fact, wearing right now because they are so bloody comfortable. When she rang me up at the counter, she told me she gave a 10% discount to anyone "in the industry" (restaurant). Her first husband was a chef, and her store is a tribute to his memory, which I find touching. Great selection of clogs, as well as any socks/stockings etc. you'd want - a friendly proprietress and a happy Corgi who wants you to rub his belly. What more could you want in a store? read more

This is my 5 time coming here and I had to write a review. They have an amazing variety of socks, tights, control tights, in all unique colors and designs. From s to l to xl for women , which I love since I am a women a full figure women not skinny but not fat in between. An they last trust me thru lots of washing I have had tights last for almost two years of washing. And the owner she is very nice and patience and explains the difference with fabric . In which I bought some socks for my husband and he loves them. I love this local shop - great to support it. Never bought the shoes but will check them out the next time. read more

There are some stores that specialize in obscure merchandise that, simply by existing, make the world a bit better. I'm thinking about such niche stores as the ones that peddle kitsch from the United Arab Emirates all day, every day, because you never know when you might need a shisha, or just might like to look at one. I used to feel this way about this particular clog shop, this cloggeria, if you will. But then I had chance to need some clogs for my retail job. And I was so glad that Vintages not only existed, but provided the kind of service and sales that makes a retail girl feel happy right down to her clog-covered toes. Dansko clogs don't come cheap here on the stateside, but I found Vintages prices quite competitive, considering they're a wee little shop. The sales attendants know their clogs, and are more than happy to order your size and keep you apprised of their arrival. I bought a recent pair of clogs from The Walking Company and had to pester the sales force to let me know when the clogs had arrived. Wished I had made the trip to Vintages. They're funky, friendly and forthcoming about their clogs. read more

I am a clog person. And I have a tendency to recruit. I managed to talk a good friend into getting clogs. He is a large, portly gentleman who usually wears through his shoes in seconds flat and has issues with knee and foot pain, so clogs seemed like a natural solution, and he had a great experience at Cambridge Clogs. The Owner Lady was friendly to both of us, and respectfully showed him how his posture was wearing on his current footwear. After me selling him on the idea of Danskos, the Owner Lady let us know that Dansko is now made in China, and that Sanitas are still made in Europe (so for all of you folks buying your clogs on Zappos.....keep that in mind). The choice at that point was obvious, and he bought two pairs and I bought one new pair for myself. Although I have to say that my experience shopping here was great, and that I've never caught wind of anything necessarily rude during any of the times I've stopped by, I am disheartened to read all of the negative reviews of the store having attitude toward customers. I'd like to think that these folks are just overly sensitive types, but my friend is an overly sensitive type, and he fared just fine. Granted, the shop was empty when we went in, and we probably walked in appearing as two giant dollarbill signs, but still. For the sake of keeping cool local stores (that sell CLOGS, for godsakes) in business, I hope that the management reads these reviews and takes heed. Your product is great and people love the store itself, and Cambridge-types are notorious for wanting to support local business (they're also notorious for being neurotic and demanding, so either cater to this crowd or continue to piss up a rope). So what needs to change? The store is *small*, this means that the customer service needs to be that perfectly executed blend of friendly and helpful but not overbearing. And if you simply can't find a way to be evenly pleasant and assisting to every customer (or find a medication that helps you with this), then hire others that can. I will continue to spread the good word about clogs to newbies, and will continue to take them here when they finally cave and consent. And for the record, I miss Ducky Boy....he was cute, and ducks & clogs make sense together. Thank you. read more

Now, I might be a little more partial to a sock store than your average customer. I see no problem with paying $25 for a pair of good socks, and regularly pay that much for *sock yarn* that I have to knit into socks myself. Heck, I flew cross-country for a sock-knitting convention (Sock Summit - super awesome), so obviously I'm off my rocker as it is. That said, I have a deep-rooted appreciation of good socks, and this store does not fail to satisfy. The people working there know their stuff, have never failed to make really great suggestions for me, and keep a wide inventory of funky, high quality socks and hose. Some other reviewers mention that the saleswoman here is batshit crazy. And I don't disagree (who am I to judge?) - but frankly, I think she's awesome. The guy is a little off too, but really, when your livelihood is hinging on being obsessed with socks and footwear? I sort of expect a special kind of craziness, and am willing to alternately turn a blind eye to it (when it rubs the wrong way) or embrace it (when it's hysterically funny). And unlike the other reviewers, no one's ever been mean to me here. Strange, sure. But never mean. Downside: In an internet era, it's often possible to get the shoes Vintage folks sell for cheaper online (their shoes are expensive...). Downside #2: The staff is hit-or-miss. I'm not a clog-person, which rules out 90% of Vintage, Etc.'s footwear, but I discovered these great little jelly ballet flats (made by Brazil-based Grendha) in this place yesterday. At only $24, they seemed like a good deal, and, indeed, I can only find them online for $29. Success! Upon seeing these, I immediately thought of running through rain puddles with no ill effects. So, basically, I had to get them. This place has an awesome variety of socks and tights, including lots of the Hue brand, in some really fun patterns and colors. Also, they carry a bunch of fun-colored peds. A friendly guy helped my friend and I as we browsed. Reading these other reviews, I'm glad that we didn't need to deal with the evil Pippi Longstocking lady. read more

If I could give this place 4.5 starts, I would. The most important thing is this: if you are looking for clogs or super-funky (and expensive!) orthopedically correct shoes, DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE. I've been to other area shoe shops (Berks, the Tannery, some clog shop in Weymouth) that carry high-end, quality shoes and no one knows their shit better than Vintage Etc. employees-- they are super-knowledgable about the fit and background of all the shoes they carry. This place is also great for high-end, funky hoisery. Their end-of-the-year sale, which starts a day or two after Christmas, is a fabulous way to get good deals on their expensive merch. I deducted a star because the 'tudes of some of the employees have been abysmal-- there have been days I've walked in and felt like I'm intruding on some hipster party. In particular, there's a woman who works there and is in a local band- - major snob alert. read more

I completely understand why people don't like this place--the proprietress was helping another customer when I walked in, and when I interjected during a pause in their conversation to ask where the sale items were, I got a blank stare and a somewhat unwelcoming response. I persevered (it was a SALE), and once I had the owner's full attention, she was actually quite helpful. She also knows her product very well (percentages cotton/spandex/wool/etc. in varieties within brands, and what's good for what purpose) and has products from several smaller New England mills. The regular prices were comparable to those of larger stores (REI, department stores, etc.) and the sale prices were comparable to those of, say, TJ Maxx. The selection is great for a pretty teensy store. If you can get past the slightly off-putting personality of the owner--and you'd rather have her in Porter Square than yet another national chain--it's worth checking out. read more

Ok, so the woman that owns the store is weird and very abrupt. She is not the kind of person I would want to hang out with but she's got a nice little local shoe store with a lot of really nice high-quality shoes. AND-I don't think one shoe is made in China. I have an obsession with not buying things made in China so this was great for me! I wanted a pair of Sanita clogs-I went here, checked them out, and then went back home to see if I could buy them online for a lot cheaper- nope, same price! The woman steered me away from the ones I originally wanted and gave me some ones that were sturdier and narrow. I didn't even know I had narrow feet! She didn't complain when I tried about 4 different pairs of the same shoe because each shoe varies a slight bit. Keep this in mind when you go: -She is a bit strange-dont take it personally -Be firm-She tried really hard to sell me a pair of insoles and I hate those...just keep ignoring her or shaking your head -Listen to her when she says comfort is more important than the way they look -Tag-team it if you can...bring some moral support and someone who will grab you boxes of the same shoe so you can compare different pairs -The shoes are expensive-make sure you really want them and they fit perfectly read more

Now Vintage Etc. is Vintage + Union Boot, since the latter closed. So, yes, clogs are expensive, but there are bargains to be had, especially with the Union Boot stock. I had wanted a pair of clogs foreves, and I found that the prices here were the same and often cheaper than bigger stores or online. And it seems pretty important to actually try clogs on before purchasing. As for customer service, I found the owner extremely patient and helpful in hooking me up with some clogs, and every time I've been back she's been pleasant and friendly. read more

I came here because they're listed as a Birkenstock retailer and I wanted to try out a few different styles. They didn't have a huge selection but there was one style that I was interested in. The woman working there greeted me but seemed hesitant to actually help me, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to search through the different sizes by myself, so it was a little awkward until I explicitly asked to try on a specific shoe. Once I was trying on the shoes she was helpful with sizing. Overall a good place for high quality (read: pricey) shoes, with a great selection of creative socks and tights.
