I really liked Fortune Cookie! I don't think it warrants such negative reviews but from what it seems most stuff in Odessa is fairly low rated? The buffet had a ton of offerings, all of which were fresh and flavorful. I was visiting a friend in the area and I would say it stacks up well with the Chinese food I've had in other places. This was by far the worst food I ever had. Greasy, bland, and I got food poisoning. Plus it wasnt even all chinese im pretty sure they dont have enchaladas in china. And it was so dirty I dont know how they are still open. I gave it a star only cas its required. This place use to be so much better.I use to love going here but now this place sucks. They need to go back to the original fortune cookie(without the Mexican food and original name). They don't have variety of food they use to have. Last time I came in the food was old and cold even under the lights. Now I have to find a new place to go for Chinese food. This place is rather eh. The food tasted decent but their lunch selection is weak. They used a whole island for Mexican cuisine too; if I want to eat Mexican I go to Mexican restaurant! What a disappointment. The interior of the place is mostly clean, although I mistakenly chose a dirty table, and the staff is very polite (even though my first order for my drink was incorrect). The interior is very kitschy, just like the outside, and parts of the decor have price tags on it. Not impressive. You're better off going across the street to Thai Spice for Asian food. read more

My husband and I went here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The buffet was well-stocked, with fresh dishes. The place is very clean and staff are friendly and attentive. Décor was really colorful and neat. I loved the little trinkets sold in the shop. Alas, the food was mediocre at best. All of the meat dishes were rather greasy and tasted the same. There was only fried rice available, no steamed rice. There were no vegetable dishes at all, and even in the meat dishes, very little veggies. Lo mein consisted of meat and a bit of onions. We were pretty disappointed and sad to have spent the money there. The place has potential, if they were to diversify the dishes and offer some alternatives to greasy, fried meats doused in sauce. Given that we're in West TX, I'm sure their food would appeal to the majority of folks looking for the most bang for their buck. read more

Agree with others doesn't deserve one star, they call it Mexicanfood, but tasteless, no spices, what they call Queso, is cheese out of a can. Taco meat taste like no chili powder in it or onions, shredded chicken boiled and shredded no taste, lettuce wilted and not fresh, very poor selection. Enchiladas again tasteless, only spice they used and in big amounts is Salt, too much salt in everything. Chile Relleno was awful no flavor just salt. Only tried the egg drop soup, couldn't eat, someone put so much salt in it I couldn't eat it. Only Chinese Buffet that had-no noodles ,just white rice. Don't waste your money. read more

As someone who has lived in China and who now lives in NYC, I've had some amazing Chinese food in my repertoire. Whenever I come back to West Texas, I usually try to stick to the cuisines the area is known for, like Mexican or steak. But Fortune Cookie is my sole exception in that regard. Most other Chinese/Japanese restaurants in the area are gross and use cheap ingredients but the food at Fortune Cookie is always delicious. Only downside is that I always overeat when I go. Another Yelper compared the place to Manhattan Chinatown, which is apt. I love coming back to see what cool/weird things they are selling in the gift shop. Highly recommend! read more

The food is consistently good. And so is the soda. The staff changes every time we come but overall it is always quick and helpful. The some of the things I dont like is that is they are adding more Mexican food. Which is not a bad thing but I don't think this place is really a China-Mexican establishment. They are also slow on the shrimp. A bonus is that they let you bring it outside food, which is why we come. read more

I've ate here since for as long as I remember and it is honestly very delicious. The food gives so much flavor and is very good. Though there are some downsides, it doesn't change the fact that it makes me want to go back and eat some more. Also, I do love the fact you can buy things from there, such as chop sticks. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting for a good buffet. Not to mention, the desert here is BOPPY. And though I haven't tried the Mexican food, I'm sure it's as good as the Chinese food Fortune Cookie is know for! read more

This place was just bad! Worst restaurant I've ever been to. The rice was crunchy. Limited selection and everything looked really old. Everything drenched in too much sauce. Tasteless crap. I couldn't even eat it. Barely even warm. What kind of Mexican buffet has no shredded cheese or sour cream? I tried to fill up on their soft serve ice cream (too soft). Dirty place with crappy religious channel on tv. Total waste of money. Save yourself the trouble and do not go here. 73 on the restaurant inspection in June. Now I know why they make you pay before you eat... They keep changing the name. When I went, it was called La Frontera, aka Los Banditios, aka the Fortune Cookie (which I already knew better than to go to). I thought maybe they had new owners and remodeled and might be better than their reputation. NOPE! just new names to try to lure people in to the same awful place.
