With Fortunate Son purportedly offering Dallas Metro's only true, New Haven pizza offering, you need not question your sanity for driving 35-60 minutes to get here to try it. But despite it possibly being genuine in this New Haven regard, is the pizza itself rewarding? I'm wrestling with a clear answer, equivocating on this point. The answer is becoming clear: No. Service was deeply flawed, memorable, in fact. Please see below. Pizza: I ordered the pepperoni and the taste of the overall composite was overwhelmed, patently lost, on the pepperoni. That is, the cheese, tomato sauce and oil made a pretty wonderful harmony with good balance. But you could barely discern such as the pizza was so ladened with the redundant and overwhelming taste of extremely salty and pungent pepperoni. I ended up removing half of it. The cheese was nearly perfect in taste, except that --while possibly true to the New Haven philosophy--lost its composure as it was burnt excessively and dry. It was crusty, dried and hard, in fact. I'm not averse to burning cheese on pizza, but can't help but wonder, though, how much better it might have come out had they not over cooked it, maybe giving it 30 seconds less? One will never know. I certainly will never know. Was the crust stiff? Yes. Please see the photo. It did have the proper singe for this style pizza, I gather. Interestingly, no differentiation is present between the crust and the body of the pizza, with this method of cooking. Consequently, there was no culinary upside in consuming the perimeter crust, just more dry cracker like bread. Service: horrendous, thoroughly embarrassing. Where to begin. With 1/3 the tables empty, the host(ess) indicates a 45 minute wait, astonishingly, (sarcasm) suggesting that I sit at the bar, which is full. I give them my name and when they realize that I'm not going away, they seat me 5 minutes later. I'll never connect the dots here. No. Never. There are bread crumbs akin to carpeting all over the seat. I use my napkin to clean the chair. The waiter subtlety objects to me discarding the dirty napkin on my other chair, never considering that I shouldn't have to clean their facility. The host(ess), when I asked her what they specialize in, expecting to be pedantically lectured on the virtues of their New Haven styled, unique pizza, doesn't mention the pizza at all. She instead discusses sandwiches, pasta and desserts. I ask her if they aren't known for their pizza. "Oh yeah, we do pizza; it's great." She insists in calling me "Sweetie" three times in a row, as though I'm 98 and brain dead in a wheelchair. I know the second isn't true and want to believe the former is a falsity, as well. How patronizing and stupid to demean your customers. Waiter feverishly attempts to sell me on appetizers, citing a 45 minute delay for the pizza; this' after I ordered the Caesar salad. I call the bluff. And just with the seating, the pizza doesn't come out in 45, but in 20. See a pattern here? No. Dot connecting is for the below 23 crowd. Waiter forgets to check on me for 20 minutes while eating the salad. The croutons are homemade and conspicuously absent. So I ask for more, walking over to the kitchen door. They were made in house and quite good. The staffer bringing the pizza: I asked him if this is their speciality. He gives me a dumb look, and doesn't know that their pizza is supposed to be unique. Wow. I'm quickly discovering that I'm their de facto publicity department. I ask the waiter for an iced tea refill, switching from coke. He needs the glass, forgetting to rinse the glass out completely. I guess here in Mexico, or Texas, everyone loves iced tea and coke mixed. Who would have guessed? Waiter stares over me when I'm calculating the tip with their handy dandy portable payment machine. When waiter brings the to go box, he's holding it in the same hand/s as a dust pan and broom. Pricing is fair. Location, when you finally get out here, is great, with a nice plaza ambiance. I won't return as there's no need to. Even if this is a 100% perfect fidelity-rendition of Yale area's best pizza, it just wasn't all that interesting. The service toppled the experience for me, as well.

We met my in-laws here while in the area. We got 3 different pizzas to try. We got the chicken Gorgonzola arugula prosciutto, and the potato pancetta. Everyone's favorite was the potato pancetta. The ambiance is great especially for kids. There is a green space on their patio that the kids can run around. The service was good. The pizza took a little long but it was busy. My only complaint is that there was not a good dessert selection. I would have loved something chocolate or a s'mores pizza. Also, if you ask for ranch they charge $2 per small serving of ranch. I was a little surprised by that. I would go back.

I can't help but observation that this is most definitely a prime "upper crust dive bar!" Some people come to be seen here as much as in any so-called "fine dining " places. But, the food is some of the best bite you'll have- ever. I will be back

Loved our early dinner here at Fortunate Son in Downtown Garland. Parking: took us a bit to circle the area but found a great spot near the center of the square. Service: We were seated right away which was a surprise because it looked packed upon entering. Luckily we were fine with a patio table on a gorgeous Saturday. Our server recommended a great cocktail and was quick with our toddlers. Cocktails: 1. "Are We Doing This" - Vodka, Lemoncello, Citrus, Raspberry Reduction - This was delicious! Not too sweet and a bit of a twist on a lemon drop martini. 2. "Not Your Mama's Lemonade" - Strawberry basil reduction with tequila. - Husband wasn't a huge fan of this one but I thought it was fine. Pizza: New Haven style which had a bit of a crunch. We had the meat lovers one and the kids had a cheese. Both were great and I'll go for the extra pepperoni next visit. Ambiance: Fantastic and huge patio with screens playing Christmas movies or sports all around the side of the building. Our kids enjoyed the relaxing environment.

    Clam pizza, not for me.

I mean, it's okay. But this is definitely more Dallas restaurant that serves pizza than New Haven pizza place. Waited 45 minutes to sit, and waited almost an hour for pizza. I'm glad they're busy, kudos, but I did not really enjoy the food. Pizza wasn't good, and the pasta was worse.

Best New Haven-Style Pizza in DFW - 10/10! Drove out and grabbed four 18-inch pies from Fortunate Son to bring home--total road-trip move. As soon as I saw the classic New Haven cut and that charred, leopard-spotted bottom with the perfect flop, I knew it was legit. First bite? Straight back to my first slice at Ibiza in New Haven. Shared with skeptical friends/family ("Is it burnt?!"), but one taste and everyone was hooked: "This crunch is perfect!" Sauce on point, pepperoni cups insanely crisp. So good people asked how far I'd driven for it. Authentic New Haven apizza in Garland? Yes please. 10/10--go now!

Wow! Garland Square is now a great place to socialize. The square is re-done and all decorated for the holiday. Full of families and smiles. Fortunate Son is offering some great pizza and atmosphere. One clam and one veggie pizza. Both were great. The tiramisu is great too.

Parking: Free parking on the street or parking lot. Interior: Chill vibes all around! There is also an outdoor patio area. Service: Excellent service! Went here for the first time this evening - initially sat out on the patio but the manager came out (I believe Josh was his name?) and warned us of the upcoming rain. He went inside and managed to find us a table so that we wouldn't get rained on! And our server (Colton?) was amazing and super attentive! Food: Ordered the Carbonara pasta, Pomodoro pasta and the Original pizza. Everything was delicious! Every bite had so many layers of flavors! Drinks: It was a cold Friday evening - the Hot Toddy and Apple Cider paired well with the food! Overall: Amazing experience! Will definitely be back! Two thumbs u

This might be one of my favorite pizza places in the DFW area. There are others that definitely compete with that, but it's up there for sure. I love New Haven style pizza. Top 3 styles for sure! They are in the downtown area of Garland, right on the square. They've got plenty of room both inside and outside! The staff is friendly and helpful and always on their toes. The pizza is just so delicious! With a little bit of crisp and a little bit of flop with a good semi-chared under carriage. If you are ever remotely close to this place, go get you a pie! Note, the 18in pies are massive.

First time going and definitely a spot that I will be going back for some crispy and amazing pizza. Each dish was flavorful and the service was great, even with it being a busy weekend night. The environment of this spot is dark but definitely cozy. I highly recommend this joint in downtown Garland.

New Haven Style Pizza. Great undercarriage lol. I recommend the double pepperoni pizza.

The bartender was very pleasant and helpful. I went with his recommendation and got half pepperoni and half cheese pizza to go along with rigatoni pasta. I wanted to order online but wasn't given that option. While I waited I had a lemon drop martini. Of course I had to try a slice (or two) of pizza while it was fresh and hot. The crust was superb. It was a good experience.

My daughter suggested we go to Fortunate Son for pizza, and I was a little skeptical at first. I had not heard of them, and as I walked up to the restaurant the outside area was loud. But i walked in the place it was roomy. There was music and lots of people there and yet I was able to have conversations with the party at our table (and it was 7 people so not a small party), and I could hear everyone just fine. My daughter ordered the Parmesan chicken sandwich and my husband took a bite of it and said it was the best sandwich he has ever eaten. My daughter said the same thing, so I guess I'm ordering this sandwich at my next visit. I got the margarita pizza and it was GOOD! There were some kind of peppers on it (I've not seen this before on a margarita pizza) but it worked! Our waiter was on top of things the whole time. He handless the crowd and our table like a pro! All in all, it was a great lunch experience and soon I can personally tell you about the Parmesan chicken sandwich when we go back there.

Gluten free "The Original"; "San Marzano sauce, pecorino, olive oil, oregano (No mozz)."

Is there a phone number available for this place? Thanks.

There is not and they did this by design. They want to focus on the customers dining in, not on to go orders at this time. That could change once they are more established but for now if you want an order to go you have to go there, place it and… Read more

I'm glad I did as they told me they started offering gluten-free pizza about a year ago, due to so many requests. The interior is actually really cool. Way more effort is put in to a little pizza place in a strip mall. Murals, vegetation, good tile patterns, and Italian-styled pillars make for a good vibe. The gluten-free pizzas only come in 14", which is bigger than i'm used to as many places only do GF in 10". I got the, "Sali's Special", which is, "Pepperoni, Sausage, Canadian Bacon, Green Peppers, Mushrooms, Onions, and Black Olives". I got it to go, as I only live right around the corner, but I made sure to eat a slice fresh before I left. The cheese was really good, with an impressive "cheese pull". The gluten-free crust was cauliflower and had a good bite to it. I think the sauce was pretty nice too, although the cheese was the star of the show. 14" was actually a bit too much for just me, as I felt overfull, so I wish they offered a 10" option too. Great pizza though, although the crust was buckling a bit under all the toppings. I will eat here again. 24$ for the 14" "Sali's Special" on gluten-free crust, which is a little more than I like to pay for a regular pizza, but I did get quite a lot of food for the price.

Chichen rubbery and cut against the grain instead of with it. Impossible to cut without steak knife and to chew. Spit it out. Even the cat would not eat it. Never again. Also paid for expedited delivery but came third in line. Won't order from here again or use Uber eats..

We had scheduled an early dinner (6:00) and there were only 7 tables throughout the night enjoying dinner service. Well, we won't be going back till the addition to the restaurant is completed, due to the noise factor!!!!!!! There was sawing noise which was so loud we joked it made us feel like we were at the dentist office having a negative experience. Along with nail guns, not what you wish to have when you're trying to have a an enjoyable dinner experience! Upon being sat we asked Patrick, our server, if they were going to continue working and he was very put off by our question. He told they were about to wrap it up for the evening. Nope, still going strong at 7:00!!? We should have left...but we had committed to the evening by ordering a bottle of wine, meatballs (deliciousness!), and salad that came overdressed with dressing (yuck!). My friend ordered the Margarita pizza, which they left the fresh basil off, which is a key ingredient. Me, the sea-bass, which was overcooked & very fishy. My hubby the pork & beef pasta with ricotta, which was overcooked and mushy. Needless to say less than stellar. And Patrick was not very friendly or accommodating. Worst night of my Life, I was so embarrassed! When dining, you usually have background music, not a building under construction??!!! $200 dinner, ruined, horrible!!!!
