Yelp reviews did not disappoint and led me to this hidden gem. Sadly there is really no decent Chinese food in Boulder but I stumbled upon this suggestion while searching again for anything new. Be aware this is really take out only. I wasn't even sure I was in the right place as it seemed I was entering the back storage area of a restaurant. As others mentioned, just call out and the owner will be there. She was super friendly. The chive pork pan fried dumplings were delicious! I also ordered the pork belly on rice which others suggested and it was so good a definitely brought back memories of home cooked food. The cold sesame noodles were also very good. Ironically, the basic orange chicken dish was probably the least wowing for me but still tasty. The bbq pork buns also very good. I am so happy to find this place and can't wait to try their other specialties. All the dishes are hand made from scratch. I will definitely be back. read more

My friends and I ordered a few different dim sum/appetizers from this restaurant last night! Soooo delicious! I would highly recommend the vegetable or pork buns- super soft with flavorful fillings!!! They were out of one of the appetizers we ordered, and a very nice lady called us immediately to figure out a replacement for what we ordered. Great customer service and delicious food! I will definitely be eating here again! read more

Very authentic Taiwanese boba and Taiwanese style cake! The owner said they will be selling bento boxes at all the GW markets (previous Pacific Ocean markets) locations. That's going to be very convenient for us living in the metro area. read more

We ordered pork chop on rice, pork chop was too salty and there was no minced pork sauce on rice, just plain rice. We also ordered lo mein which tasted very bland, sticky rice tasted just okay. I gave 2 stars for good portion on rice/noodle. read more

Perhaps one of the best asian food options in Boulder! I ordered the roast pork belly over rice and the pork was juicy and tender and the dish is served with pickled vegetables which I thought was a nice, modern touch to a classic dish. I also had the sticky rice with meat and mushroom and it was very delicious and savory. The texture of this dish is more on the gooey side so if you're not an adventurous eater, I would recommend getting something else as an appetizer. I would also recommend you become an adventurous eater. The lady who owns the place was super kind and her passion for Taiwanese food and pastries is infectious. The food is truly 10/10 and the whole experience is made better by knowing that my money is going to a local entrepreneur who is dedicated to bringing authentic and high-quality Taiwanese food to a place that seriously needs diversity. Currently they only do take out or delivery but don't let this prevent you from an amazing culinary experience! read more

If my review was based only on the food, I would give Formosa five stars. I ordered the orange chicken which was freshly made and tasted really good. However, the service was not the best. I ordered pickup online and my food was supposed to be ready in 15 minutes. I showed up to pickup my food 20 minutes later and was ignored for probably 10 minutes. I was then given the wrong order. I pointed out the mistake and then waited for almost another 20 minutes before finally receiving my food. The woman who was working was quite kind and the food tasted great, but if you need to get your food within a short time limit, then Formosa would not be my first recommendation. read more

Nancy is the sweetest! She works so hard to bring authentic Taiwanese to Boulder and man do we appreciate her for it. Extremely reasonable pricing for the quality of the food. We love the pork buns and red bean egg pastries, but everything is amazing. Woo! read more

This place is a hidden gem. Get the pork belly, try the dessert pastries (egg tart was amazing), try the Siu Mai and the dumplings. The owner cooks all the food and she's super nice. New fav restaurant in boulder. read more

We had the baked pineapple bao, steamed pork bun, shrimp/pork sui mai, noodles with ground pork, and fritter/pork wrapped in sticky rice. Everything was delicious. So excited for this authentic Taiwanese addition to Boulder!! The dim sum scene is lacking but Formosa fills it up nicely. read more

MOVED to a new location (check the website; take out only?) due to the redevelopment of the Hill location. It was hard to find, but worth it! The food was delicious and even my kiddo raved! The crispy pancake with egg was on point and we also enjoyed the chopped pork with rice, pork belly with rice and egg tarts. I also noticed some new menu items to try, so we will be back. read more

This hidden gem is one of our new favorites! The food was delicious, especially the crispy pancake with bbq pork and the fried sesame balls. The owner is delightful. Seems like a very sweet family-run business. We can't wait to try some other things on the menu - we will definitely be back! (If you can't find it, just give Nancy a call!) read more

Used to get this all the time before they moved locations. Tried it again today, on the best restaurants in Boulder.

Fabulous food! We've been here a few times now, and it's become our favorite Asian restaurant in Boulder. Here are pictures of some of the dishes we had (fruit tart, green bean with shiitake mushroom, Taiwan sesame cold noodle). read more

This place is awesome! Nancy is so attentive and the food is delicious. She is great at recommending dishes and making things off menu so go into this place with an open mind and an empty belly. Yum! read more

Mongolian beef and dumplings were amazing. Can't wait to come back and try the pastries!

Food was below average for a Chinese Resturant . Flavor of the fried rice was well None. I will take a pass on this place

First time here, and the food was absolutely wonderful. Nancy was very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. We tried the Beef Noodle Soup with fresh ramen noodles. Immediately asked for a 2nd order to take home. The Siu Mai dumplings were tender and delicious. Also, had to try Sesame cold noodles and chicken buns, which didn't disappoint. We live in Longmont, definitely worth the trip. We will be coming back soon. read more

We have tried a couple of different things on the menu... all good, but we keep coming back for the dumplings. Yum! I like the veggie dumplings best and my partner likes the pork ones.. but honestly both are delicious. read more

Although the owner was attentive many dishes on the menu are unavailable and the food is just ok.

Ordered for the first time here and so disappointed. The food was soggy, over cooked, and over seasoned. I couldn't eat anything and had to order from another place. read more

We did carry out tonight from Formosa. It was our first visit. We had the Cashew Chicken, Lo Mein Noodle with Shrimp, and the Vegetable Pan Fried Dumplings. All were quite good. We will be return customers. read more

Wow! The best bowl of beef noodle soup ever! I will miss this place, especially after a long hike at the Flatirons. I could immediately tell that the broth was made with no food additives; I couldn't stop slurping! The owner lady is really friendly too. I have a feeling the place is going to be bustling as the weather gets colder! read more

Amazing fresh food! Stopped in for lunch and was served warm sesame balls. The owner came to our table and was so sweet and welcoming.

The lady at the front was very welcoming and friendly. I ordered the chopped pork on rice and an order of the Siu Mai. Both were super good and authentic tasting. Will definitely be back read more

This was a really good meal. Everything we ordered was hot, fresh, and delicious. I was happy to see lots of vegetarian options. It's a very extensive menu, especially considering it seems to be a one-woman operation! It's not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it's much better than anything we've had in the entire Denver Metro, so that's pretty relevant. We will definitely come back here! read more

Very good traditional options and a couple more creative things as well. Great service and friendly staff

I absolutely love this place! The women who runs the restaurant is so kind and works incredibly hard! I will 100% be returning for the pork buns and siu mai! read more

Formosa is a very old name for Taiwan, so when I saw a place named this, my hopes went up for Boulder's honestly lackluster Asian food scene. The owner is super friendly, but the food is what makes this place amazing. It tastes like home to me. My mom and grandmother are Taiwanese and this place really tastes like homestyle cooking. The dumplings were so well flavored and what a great beef noodle soup. If you know Taiwanese food, you know that beef noodle soup is an absolute staple. My personal favorite noodles are Jajiangmien, and Formosa's was amazing. The roll cakes were super soft, not too sweet. Will happily make this place a regular occurrence. Compared to another Taiwanese food staple of Boulder, Zoe Ma Ma, I would say Formosa tastes more traditional to me while Zoe Ma Ma is more modern. So, while I love Zoe Ma Ma, this one truly tastes like home. read more

The baked goods are fantastic. The custard tart is to die for. They use no artificial colors in their baking. Will definitely be back.

This place is really good. Probably one of the most authentic Chinese foods I've had in Boulder yet.

We've known the owner, Nancy, for many years from her former restaurant and have always enjoyed her cooking. We're delighted she opened Formosa. We know it'll be just as great. As soon as we found out where it is, we stopped by for lunch and Nancy remembered my husband's favorite dish (Moo Goo Gai Pan)! I asked for Basil and Chicken Stir-fry. Even though they're not on the menu, she graciously made them for us. Everything was SO DELICIOUS! Just the way we remember her cooking. What makes it special for us is the fact that Nancy cares about how she prepares her food, and about her customers! read more
