Ordered birthday meal for sis from California and got a call from shop asking that I please return the call. Did so and learned they had a large order that day, could they swap out one of the items that took some time and wouldn't be ready until later that afternoon? Super responsive, called back and followed up after to check that everything was good (I verified with sis). Will have to visit in person next time I visit sis in Colorado, thanks for feeding sis! read more

As someone who is Taiwanese, this is the most legit Taiwanese place I've been to in a long time, especially in Colorado. The owner Nancy is very nice and talented at making authentic Taiwanese food. They moved to a new location, but it isn't too hard to find if you use gps and you can always call their number and Nancy will help with directions. Call ahead to order, I promise you won't regret it. read more

Formosa - 8 Pork Soup Dumplings Roast Pork Belly Over Rice Taiwanese Sesame Cold Noodle with Chicken 2 Egg Custard Tart - Taiwanese Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

I am Taiwanese and visit Boulder every summer. They relocated to this industrial part of town so I'm lucky to reconnect. The food is authentic, fresh, and made with heart. I order the Pork Belly and Pork Chop bento box each time and have never been disappointed. I've spoken with the owner and she is a well trained chef. In addition to the authentic taiwanese dishes, she is proud of her pastries and desserts. She truly cares about the quality of her product. I hope she can expand and prosper from her site now as she deserves to shine. Make the effort to support these small businesses. Their loss is a loss for all. read more

I'm gonna give 5 stars because I want to help this local place to survive... since it's run/owned by just one woman. So I'm gonna cut some slack. Is it the best Taiwanese food I've ever had? No, is it awesome for Boulder? Yes. You cannot get this kind of food anywhere else in Boulder (yes, Zoe Ma Ma has some similar items). They have many items like fan tuan that I haven't had in Colorado before (California, yes, Taiwan, yes, but that doesn't count). Do check your order, though, because I didn't get one of my items (it was a small one though) and another was an error (but similar category of food). I do agree that the dumplings skins are on the thicker side, however, we still snarfed them. I love dumplings w/ garlic chives vs. cabbage. Nancy was very sweet and appreciative of my business. She also gave me a free Thai iced tea. All in all, very satisfying and hit the spot. I do want to try it again and get other items. read more

Based on all the great reviews this place has had I was hoping for a bit more. It was OK, but not worthy of the five star reviews that I read over the last month or two in my opinion. I got the pork dumplings and chicken bun and they were OK but seemed like they could've been fresher, and the dough could've been a bit lighter. Also, there is no in-restaurant dining so I would recommend using GrubHub or being aware that you won't be eating there when you get there. read more

It's open! Formosa is located in a very industrial area because the city screwed the owner. My wife is Taiwanese and we eat the cuisine at every opportunity. This is excellent. Porridge with preserves duck eggs, pork belly over rice, minced pork over rice, and cold drinks. Really delicious, made the perfect picnic! read more

In town for the holidays, we found reviews for Formosa that invited and encouraged us to try it. The food did not disappoint - we ordered and shared dishes similar to what we can get in Northern Virginia, right outside D.C. from a lively Asian restaurant community and have to say that Formosa was simple wonderful. Pork buns, Szechuan beef, shrimp with broccoli, orange chicken and the most divine rice contributed to a memorable Sunday night family dinner. We were also quite satisfied with the owner, Nancy's culinary touch and professional demeanor. We will be back! read more

"Miss identified wait time waited 45 min totaling 1 hour The soup was very very good. Fried Rice was really steamed rice she was out of both pork and vegetable egg rolls and replaced with spring rolls with a very strong miso dipping sauce. It's truly a Ghost Kitchen with a very hard working owner but unfortunately she is struggling after $70 dollars of somewhat ok food sorry I won't return. Best of luck" read more

DELICIOUS!! I love Dim Sum and this is the first place I've had it in Boulder and it did not disappoint. The sweet lady who brought my order to the door looked to be the chef too. I was ready to give up on finding good Taiwanese food in Boulder. This place is legit! Seriously do not bother with anywhere else!

Let me get right to the point. This is really great food and Nancy, the proprietor, goes all out to give you the best. She uses real ingredients, not artificial ones. For instance, the orange chicken has the oranges that you can see and taste, not powders or artificial flavors. I enjoy eating real food and Nancy does this the best. read more

Delicious dumplings. Be prepared that it is hard to find and basically just a door to a small area where you tell them your order.

Delicious fresh food. You can tell everything is homemade and market fresh. Don't let the location deter you - make this a must when you're in Boulder! Chef really makes the food with love. read more

Absolutely fantastic food and service. Some logistics: As a heads up, Formosa is currently a "ghost kitchen." So, you should call your order in ahead for takeout or have the food delivered. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!! The lady that owns it is so kind and the food is always made fresh. Best place on the hill.

Outstanding food at this carry out or delivery only restaurant. We ordered online to pick up but I highly recommend calling to place your order as this is a one woman shop and you'll get better accuracy on when your order will be ready. The location was easy to find in Google Maps, though there is no sign on the building. We were only too happy to wait after tasting the items we ordered, each one was delicious. We especially liked the mango smoothie since it was made of real fruit and not powder. We also enjoyed the fried pork dumplings and the sesame chicken, among other items. The owner, Nancy, takes great pride in the food she prepares from scratch and it shows. Very personalized service. We will be back for dim sum. read more

Incredible food and owner. I made a Yelp account just to write this lol. Some of the best Taiwanese food I've ever had and I've lived in San Francisco, NYC and Chicago. The food is cooked from scratch and with love. Entrees, soups, noodles, desserts, the BOBA MILK TEA!! The textures, fragrances, fresh vegetables, tender meats, preserved eggs, perfect sweetness in the sweet treats. The boba smoothies are made with natural ingredients, not sugary mixes, and perfect tapioca. Pork belly has just the right amount of fat. Dumplings pan fried to perfection. Egg tarts! Order cakes 2+ days in advance, it is so worth it! I recommend calling the shop and letting them know when you'll be there. The owner and chef is just lovely. The location (Fall 2022) is in an industrial park, seems to be where a lot of different food trucks cook. No seating inside or out, but there is a park nearby. Highly recommended! read more

Amazing food and the sweetest staff! Every dumpling we got was so amazing! Tell all your friends!

Truly authentic and excellent food! The owner is so kind and it feels like I am eating at my grandmothers house.

Food was fantastic and owner was super nice! Would definitely recommend if you're craving Chinese food. The egg tarts were delicious!

Store was closed on a Saturday night. Sign said "open" and hours posted showed it should have been open. What on earth?! Disappointing.

I am currently chewing right now, but had to stop to write this review. This food is so good. It is very authentic and the portions are so generous. I got pork belly over rice and it was so tender and flavorful. We also got siu mai and it was so good. I don't like siu mai that much, but I may have been converted today. Genuinely the best Taiwanese food in boulder -- even the best Asian food in Boulder. read more

This place is amazing. Hands down best dim sum. I really was not expecting this- it was late, I was on my way back from the airport, but what a pleasant surprise. Best beef noodle soup of my life, pork and chive dumplings were so tasty they didn't even NEED dipping sauce!!! The chicken steamed bun... just wow. So many flavors. Last but not least, the sui Mai was incredible. It had perfect size shrimp and the shrimp to pork ratio was exactly the way it should be. I want to eat this again ASAP read more

Delicious food! Owner (Nancy) is very nice. We got the dumplings, taro pastry, and sesame noodles. Authentic Chinese and Taiwanese food (source: I am Chinese lol ) .Owner said she makes everything from scratch including the Thai tea! You can tell she puts a lot of effort and pride into her food. Recommend that you order via phone or call beforehand. Highly recommend ! read more

I love the food from this place. I looked up in Yelp and found her. Nancy is very friendly. No Dine in, only offer for to go. The place is kind of out in the industrial area. I will definitely order food from Formosa again. read more

This is the place that the Boulder food scene has been missing. I think about Formosa, and I get emotional because of 1) how much the place and food feels like home and 2) the quality of the food and 3) the fact that when I came here, the owner was quite literally the only worker and somehow running the register, cooking individual meals, doing dishes, and who knows what else. A true superwoman. Formosa is 100% truly authentic Taiwanese food and if you're looking for a traditional experience, this is the place. When I walked in, I immediately felt like this place was so familiar because it reminded me of all the individual restaurants with home-cooked meals that I had been to in Asia and expertise that goes into making a simple meal so good. There was an entire glass display full of pastries, egg tarts, and other baked goods. It is not a fancy place, but a place to simply go and get good food. We ordered from a paper menu and right after, the owner went back to the kitchen and started making our food right away. As we were waiting, the entire place filled up - it's a seat yourself kind of place, and we were simply amazed with the owner's patience, kindness, and consistency with quality while simultaneously cooking food for probably 20 people by herself. When our food was ready, she brought it over to our table with a big smile and told us to enjoy it. You know how sometimes foods just taste right or taste like home? I ordered the beef noodle soup and within my first sip, I knew that this dish was that. My partner ordered the pork belly with rice and the meat was so flavorful, tender, and delicious. I am so thankful that this place exists and I wish all the best for it! I can't wait to come back to try more things on the menu. read more

Everything was delicious my son liked the sauce so much he actually ate the veggies instead of just picking out the chicken pieces

Amazing food. So delicious every time. And don't be afraid to try new things because everything is seriously good! Service is wonderful. The lady at the front when we normally go is sweet and as nice as can be. Highly recommend! read more

I don't live in Boulder but am here for work sporadically. I tried Formosa for the first time over a week ago and have been here twice since then! The orange chicken is the best I have ever had. The fried rice is also great as is the Kung Pao Chicken. We have also tried an assortment of baked goods and appetizers and nothing has disappointed us. I highly recommend! The orange chicken alone will keep us coming back but I will keep trying a few new things each time as well. The owner is very nice and sweet to our kids who also love the food. read more
