Historically speaking I had never been to the Queens Theatre before the other night when I caught…read morethe NYC appearance by the band Rolling Quartz. The band had embarked on their North American tour from their native South Korea. Since I had never seen the band before as well, the adventure to a new space for me made the whole thing more interesting to me. Now I travel via the MTA, and from Bay Ridge this event space is a bit of a hike. It's the R train to the N to the 7 to a fairly decent walk. Those who are driving or taking an Uber might have a little better trek experience than I did but that being said once I made it past the famed Unisphere and over to New York State Pavilion, it was time to go into the Queens Theatre. When I arrived there were already about 100 attendees lined up because the band was doing all sorts of VIP things with them. A cool part of the agenda for sure. Inside the theatre is a spacious lobby area with seating all around near the windows. There are concessions there but I only saw drinks being sold when I looked. There was a small merchandise table for the band set up and I imagine that when other shows happen here this will be their space as well. Right off the bat I connected to a complimentary WiFi signal which was good but seemed to go on and off during the course of the performance. Once I was in the actual performance space I was quite impressed. The stage is sizable which was great because this was a five member band with a full backline and the seats were oh so comfortable. Yes this was a Rock Show and people would likely be standing throughout the performance but when it was time to sit you could do so in comfort. I positioned myself in the eighth or so row on the aisle since I needed to shoot photographs and I was happy to report that there were no bad sightlines in the theater. The sound was also clear and impressive which was partially a testimony to the bands team on the tour. While I didn't get to explore the venue all that much outside of the show, I did see one of the spacious side rooms which I guess they do talks in or smaller events. The band has set up their meet and greets there so it was in and out in terms of time to examine. There was a complimentary WiFi that I did find to be spotty at times but I feel this was based on the amount of people choosing to live stream the show. There were obviously restrooms and while I can only speak for the men's facility it was quite clean which is always a pleasant find. Overall this was a great experience for me but I cannot fathom when and if I might make a return based on the logistics and scarcity of what most interests me happening here. I will be keeping tabs on their calendar for good measure just in case and maybe some other localized Hard Rock bands can look into it or even local promoters who wish to do something that is no too crazy.

We had a hard time finding parking as the show was about to start and the park is always busy. There were two small lots nearby that were full. Upon entering check in was easy. They had a small concession stand. The seating was great with no obstructed views. The play itself was kid friendly and told the meaning and traditions of the special day. It was very informative and entertaining. I enjoyed the different styles of dances performed, the colorful outfits, the creative scenery (which was simple but effective). I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to visiting again.

So it really pulls you into this sort of portal where you're fully locked in on games and then you look up and its been 3 hours, love it. Drinks are fine but they are a great price. Got the Waaaluigi which was really tasty and pretty unique! The wonder punch was a classic tropical rum drink and good but was a little watery. Absolutely LOVE the music here, both live and regular music through the speakers once the live shows are done. They also have a backyard outdoor courtyard that is perfect for a quick break to touch grass before going back in and screentimemaxxing again

I was a regular at Wonderville for about two years and genuinely loved the place. Without any prior…read morewarning or conversation, I was suddenly told I was 86'd "for life." I had to email afterward just to learn that my "behavior and demeanor" had supposedly made people uncomfortable. What makes this especially ridiculous is that the same month I was banned, I had brought my mom here for Mother's Day. Over the years, I also brought my brother, my partner, and several close friends. This was a place I genuinely enjoyed sharing with people. For context, I was not harassing people. I was a social regular who enjoyed friendly conversations, and if I approached or acknowledged someone who didn't want to interact, I respected that and gave them space. I am a human being, not furniture. If staff wanted me to change something about my behavior, they could have simply told me. I would have listened and adjusted. I also have concerns about whether my race, sex, and height affected how I was perceived and treated. After months of follow-ups, management confirmed that I'm still not permitted on site. Great concept, but the way this was handled showed a serious lack of communication and people skills. One star. In a public response to my Google review, Wonderville alleged that I followed people around, made "unwanted advances," and engaged in "predatory behavior." I categorically dispute these allegations. I did not follow people around the venue. It's a small arcade bar where people naturally cross paths repeatedly. That isn't the same as following someone. More importantly, Wonderville claimed it had already explained these allegations to me privately. That is contradicted by the original emails I still have, which only mentioned my "behavior and demeanor" making people uncomfortable. They spent months telling me to reflect without ever disclosing these more serious accusations. I only learned about them through their public Google response. Presenting disputed reports as established behavior is serious. If someone claims another customer is following them, does Wonderville simply ban that person without investigating or giving them a chance to respond? That's troubling for anyone who visits this bar. Given that these accusations only appeared publicly after I criticized how this was handled, it comes across to me as lashing out. Just a very hostile space. Be careful getting too comfortable around certain staff and regulars. In my experience, what you consider a friendly social interaction might later be characterized as predatory behavior without anyone addressing it with you directly. After everything that has transpired, I'm glad I never have to set foot in Wonderville again.

I got a little motion reviewing rotisserie chickens online last year, and made a few internet…read morefriends along the way. One was Kettama, and he invited me to his show this past weekend here at the Knockdown Center. For context, this sort of electronic dance music is not my scene at all but we had been trading DMs for over a year, and he has been showing so much love so I had to roll through. I arrived at 11pm with a friend Eric who is down for ANYTHING, and we had no idea what we were walking into. We took in the scenery for a bit, had bass vibrating through every fiber of our skeletons, before we went outside to smoke cigs that Eric handrolls. I messaged Kettama we were in the smoking area, and his girlfriend came out to come and take us backstage. Internet friends are such a unique experience. You never really know what you're getting into. I've met a good amount of people in person and never wanted to turn around and go home so fast. Sometimes you just don't vibe at all. I've also met a few FAMOUS famous people, and typically they are extremely out of touch, which is not even a knock on them. When everyone is catering to your every whim, fans tripping over themselves to get a picture with you, telling you how great you are all the time, how could you not have an inflated view of yourself? How could you stay grounded? So I was ready for a quick 3 minute, somewhat awkward, surface level interaction. What I got was the exact opposite. We walked in, and before I could get out my patented "WADDUP BIG BRO..." he took his headphones off, stood up and said "THERE'S NO WAY!! JOHNNY NOVO IN THE FLESH!!" We hit a clean dap and just started chopping it like 2 lifelong homies. I was caught off guard as he was asking a bunch of great questions about me, as it's rare for anyone, famous or not, to ask questions and then follow up questions about my life. He even got in on our running friend group joke about how being around Eric makes us feel so insecure, because he is ridiculously handsome and JACKED. We ended up chilling with him for 2 hours and between shots of Clase Azul, we talked about everything from our favorite memes to how cool UPS drivers and their drip is to some things I cannot put in writing. As it got close to 2am when he was supposed to go on he said "OH DAMN IT'S LATE, let me lock in!" We headed back upstairs to catch his set, and Eric said "I'm actually shocked. He is genuinely such a cool guy... He's like one of us. We gotta invite him to our next hot pot dinner..." His set ended up blowing the roof off the Knockdown Center. The man is a star. But for me, it's always a pleasure to see when genuinely good people win. This dude would fit so seamlessly in our friend group it's stupid. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

There were two sets with a 30 minute pause in between. Pros: - Sound system was so good. For EDM, the audio was great in that former factory space. - Visuals and lights. I was mesmerized by the overhanging light thing (I don't know the technical terminology, but you'll know immediately what I mean when you see it flashing above you) - Security was actually really cool - they were super professional and did good crowd control, but kept the vibe positive. - I kept it light with any extra things on my person, but it was good to see there is a locker system that you could utilize if you needed Cons: - Perhaps it was a one-off that night (this was around the time when there was a semi-heatwave), but the ventilation. People were so excited about Underworld that I think many people just powered through, but Dear God! I was waiting for people to pass out from heat exhaustion or someone to shout "MEDIC!" I didn't hit up the merch room, but saw it from afar. Also, I didn't get anything from the bar. So I can't speak to those aspects of the venue. Note: This is neither a pro nor con, just a heads up so you know - unisex bathrooms with attendants.
