Unfortunately I found out recently that they're actually quite shady and manipulative. They don't actually create or curate the art in Little Italy - they pretend to support it, plaster it on their social media, and try to profit from it. At the expense of the actual artists that create the art they're showcasing. They've gotten into legal action with artists over marketing rights for the art that they claim to "support", but essentially want to mooch off of and shake down for $$$. A lot of the gorgeous art, such as the Audrey Hepburn picture on Mulberry St, are examples that they claim to be big endorsers of - but have actually fought the artists over, to win sole rights to commercializing posters etc. They've tried to destroy murals & privately commissioned public art without consent or notification to the artists themselves. Again, mostly for the chance to bring in new art and profit from online sales of merchandise / picture rights. And they're more than happy to block/ban/remove you from any of their social media if you even think of leaving a vaguely negative comment (even a politely-worded one). A word to the wise: good, wholesome, community-minded organizations NEVER block or throttle people into silence because they might disagree with them. And they NEVER treat artists like they're disposable sources of income. This organization does not represent Little Italy in the slightest. Be very, very careful if you're ever asked to work with them. Better yet, stay clear of them altogether.

I love the color it adds to the city. I love the smile it puts on my face. I like the happy feeling I get inside when I see it. I also like the legal authorization of the activity. For many years it was an offense to express yourself and your artistic talent in this manner. I'm glad Little Italy has embraced this organization and the art they promote. The collection inside is thoughtfully curated, showcasing artifacts that illuminate both the house's past and the surrounding neighborhood's rich history. The staff is warm and welcoming, and one guide in full period attire was not only gracious but impressively knowledgeable a wonderful touch that really brings the space to life. This is a must-visit for history buffs, preservation professionals, Ridgewood locals, or anyone exploring NYC who's craving an "out-of-the-way" spot to slow down, reflect, and soak in some Queens-centric history. Don't miss the "Arbitration Rock" on the grounds tucked inside a picket-fenced enclosure, it's an intriguing remnant of the historic boundary dispute that once defined the Ridgewood (Queens)-Bushwick (Brooklyn) border. The walking tour goes at a good pace to cover a wide area but slow enough to also stop, think and take photos. Good value for money and well organised the tour takes you through the main streets in Bushwick and Jeff explains the background behind many of the pieces. It's a good way to get your bearings before revisiting solo or continuing your wonder under your own steam. Bushwick, Brooklyn is the street art epicentre with an ever changing array of works from world renowned street artists.

Not much sense preaching to tourists about unaffordable housing for 2 hours.

Great visit to the Museum of Moving Image…read more Finally made it over to Queens to visit the Museum on a Thursday during their Free Thursdays (2pm - 6pm). General admission prices are $20 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $10 for children. Tickets are NOT required for their Free Thursdays, but are required for all other days. The museum is conveniently located just a few blocks away from the Steinway M/R subway stations. There is also street parking in the surroudning area. The first floor has a large tabled cafeteria area which sells lots of cafe-style items. There is also a courtyard there. So many interesting movie and TV-based exhibits throughout the museum's second floor. Great explanations of and insight to the film-making process. The make-up/prosthetic area was particularly interesting which currently features "The Exorcist". There is also a great current exhibit on the Sopranos, diving into the making of the hit television series, taking you through some of its iconic locations. The Jim Henson exhibit was also great and takes you through his decorated career and his contributions to various shows like Sesame Street and the Muppets and movies like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. The third floor contains the technical "making of..." exhibits. It takes you through the cameras, lighting and sound capturing throughout the years. There are some great interactive exhibits on this floor. I was only there for about an hour and a half and found myself running out of time on the third floor. I would easily plan for a 3-hour or so trip to read and experience everything...including maybe a bite at the cafe and some relaxation in the courtyard.

I loved seeing things like the movie cameras that have been used over the years. Very fascinating. The one downside is that it can be really crowded sometimes. This is especially an issue with the interactive stuff. There were huge lines to see some of the interactive things. Made it a bit of a chore getting through the museum at times. Overall though, definitely recommend checking it out.

The landscape artist and architect this museum is named for seemed to just really want to build…read moreplaygrounds, but had to face so much red tape from the city to execute on any of these ambitious plans. It was cool to see the renditions and actual models of what could have been for our city. A friend I visited with works in theater and is a fan of Martha Graham's work so she was pretty excited to learn that Noguchi is the artist behind many of Graham's stage productions. The museum spans two floors and a peaceful outdoor garden area, where a group of us sat and took in the ambience for a while. You can get through the museum pretty quickly if you wanted to but the space really invites you to turn off the business of the mind and while away the hours here. FYI there's no cafe on the premises and there's no food or drink allowed in here, but the staff pointed us to a lovely stretch of cafes just a block away.

Like no other. When…read moreyou think about places like NYC, the big appeal (imho) is the immediacy of things. If you want great art, you've got it. Great theater, you've got it. Great food, you've got it. Great music..... in spades. Terraza7 is maybe one of the greatest places you could visit in NYC. It's a music hall like no other, simultaneously offering some of the best music in a unique and intimate setting. They have a downstairs and an upstairs. I was recently here to listen to some Afro-Peruvian jazz. What a phenomenal time. I felt truly blessed to experience such magic. The music and talent were genius and what enhanced everything is audience interactions. If you're in the area, I genuinely feel like you have a responsibility to go and experience it for yourself. It'd be criminal not to. If you're not in the area, make plans to go.
