The room is small so all seats get good views and sound. My chicken pesto sandwich arrived quickly and was delicious. The fries were thin, hot, and crisp! I washed the meal down with a French 75. Excellent! I remember when Cafe Wha was THE party. Sadly, that isn't true anymore. I'm happy to say that the party is alive and well, and living at the Black Soul Experience at The Groove, led by entertainer extraordinaire Antwon Robinson. He and the band will make you dance 'till you sweat and sing 'till you're hoarse! This show is a great time hearing live music by talented, energetic musicians. They played pop, R&B, soul, rap, go-go, and reggae! Something more special than good music happened. Antwon shouted out Trinity's birthday and congratulated her onstage along with several other birthdays. He asked where people were visiting from. At first I was bored by all of the shoutouts, but over the course of the evening Antwon built community among strangers. As we left we wished each other Happy Birthday and safe travels back to our hometowns. The beauty of community is much needed in these times and I credit Antwon with creating a wave of kindness and human recognition. Go see this show! I highly recommend!

The staff are strict with seating arrangements to ensure everyone has a great view which is accommodating. You are allowed to BYOB. Now to the best part, the musicians. We enjoyed a hour and a half of pure bliss. The musicians were so talented and played from the heart and soul and you felt it. The music was low key to sit back and relax and then upbeat to do a little movement in your chair. lol. This is definitely a place to visit and enjoy some cool jazz in Brooklyn.

The jazz concerts have been operating in the same room for over 16 years, and currently do so from Fri-Sunday. The owners are so passionate about jazz and Bed-Stuy. When you buy your ticket, you'll see a list of rules, like a dress code of no jeans, hoodies, or backpacks. Years ago, these tickets used to include a fish dinner, but that ended with the pandemic. Get tickets as soon as you verbally agree to plans or else they'll sell out. Only about 20 patrons can fit, so you can bring a small group or even go alone. The musicians know each other well and joke together. The bass and piano instruments are a little banged up on the wood due to year of use, but the pitch is right on target. Although classy, Brownstone Jazz isn't too uppity and unapproachable no matter your musical knowledge. The vibes are intimate, vintage, soulful, and welcoming. The emcee, one of the owners, is excited about birthdays and audience involvement, so absolutely raise your hand if you're celebrating. If you speak another language, you may be asked to translate a song title just to get conversation and context flowing.

The performances are mesmerizing, and the ambiance at the venue where I saw Queen of Hearts and Petite Rouge is stunning and immersive from the moment you walk in. Highly recommend experiencing Company XIV at least once - though chances are you'll want to return again. Ultimately, it's a nice option that isn't a typical nightlife establishment. The music on stage really varies night to night. Some nights it's a metal fest and some others it's DJ night and house music is in order. I personally enjoy it when it's a hip hop oriented show and some local artists get up on stage and do their thing. If they're good, the crowd usually gets into it. The bar is nice and spacious, but whenever they staff only one bartender or several slow ones the bottlenecking at the counter can get serious. I know they accept credit cards, but the couple of times the bartenders tell me it's out of order and it becomes a cash only spot. This isn't ideal of course, but it might just be bad timing. Occasionally when they have that outdoor space (directly behind the stage) that really becomes like a smoking area for those seeking the puff. The bathrooms are like any venue with a ton of people -- anywhere from disgusting to use only when desperate.

When I won, I figured the venue would be huge since I somehow managed to get on the list. Once there, I realized the couldn't be more than a hundred people inside. Talk about a small show! I've listened to part of these type of shows on the radio, however, in person is always better. I didn't realize how early into the show they cut off the radio audience. Well worth the day trip up from Philadelphia! If you manage to get tickets, get here!

I think the venue holds about 200, so even the spots in the back are good. Pro-tip: if they are filming, don't stand behind the camera man. If you can get into this venue, go. I made the trip up from Philly and were surrounded by others who flew in. Unfortunately, the concert was short. They broadcast 30 minutes on-air and 30 minutes off-air. It was still worth it. Before this recent experience I had never even heard of the Chelsea Music Hall but I was glad to be…read moreparticipating in one of the two appearances by the legendary Punk band The Damned. My friend had gone the evening before and it would have helped if they told me it was a part of the massive Chelsea Market because I didn't know that and after a far too long train ride to get to the place I walked in and headed downstairs which is where the club is located. Visually the long bar is to your right when you get through the doors and the soundboard tech is to the left. In the back left are the restrooms for men and women and a communal sink to wash up. I didn't notice any gender neutral restrooms. There is also a small space there which the band was using as a merchandise area. Spatially speaking the club is what one would consider intimate in size. The stage up front had some simple dividers between the artist and the fans but no real barricade and since I was planning on doing some photography can say that there was no photo pit to stand in for a few numbers as is the standard. There are some couches on either side of the stage area and since I imagine other kinds of events happen here this might be more of a VIP section. That was not the case tonight but I saw some room and ensconced myself to it. It was too difficult to navigate to the front or stand behind the taller fans. Since I didn't order any drinks as I've been doing a bit of a sober break I cannot speak to the prices but they sure did have a stockpile of pretty much everything that I could see. It's NYC so it is likely going to be only so cheap and since the tickets for the event were about $80 I don't think you're getting a drink for five bucks. Someone asked me if this was the old Highline Ballroom and it is not I am afraid and as a matter of fact that space was empty the last time I passed through the area a couple of months ago. A shame since that was a good club and brought many artists to town. The size of the CMH seems to be just a wee bit smaller than the old Studio at Webster Hall space which was also located downstairs in that venue. Another good spot that was put to pasture. There was a WiFi to use but a staff person entered it for me which was nice but I did see a public feed as well. I will come back here again depending on the artist that decides to play here but who knows when that will happen. I will for sure be keeping a look out on their calendar and add any topical events of interest to my websites calendar. I've got to close with seeing a few negative comments about staff and can say that everyone I encountered during the show was friendly and helpful. I go to a lot of venues so I don't need to be false about this stuff.
