Headed to check out some murals after heavy filipino breakfast. The residential streets of Welling Court run outwards from a center-point--likes spokes on a wheel--stretching out in a parade of color and street art in all directions. To visit the Welling Court Murals, take the New York City N or W subway line to the Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard stop. From there, you'll walk west on Astoria Boulevard for 10 to 15 minutes towards 12th street. The Welling Court Murals are available for public viewing at all times. There are around 150 murals. Pros: -------- Good Art Free to watch ( Lol) Great for photoshoots NYC ferry stop close by to go to manhattan(45 min but only $2.75$

Wandering the Welling Court Mural Project is the best way to spend a sunny afternoon. Soooo many beautifully creative and colorful murals some from artists I've seen around NYC / across the country and many other artists I hadn't heard of yet. We started on 30th at Welling Court and just started wandering the neighborhood - you don't really need a map ... just follow the pops of color around each corner. After about an hour we had seen just about everything in the area (minus a building that has a construction fence surrounding it). I'm excited to see where this project is in another 6 months or a year...hopefully just getting better and brighter. If you're in the area - or even if you're not - get on over to Astoria and check out the murals and all the talent gracing those neighborhood walls.

New wall murals just finished this week on 12 St. and Welling. If you are hardcore fans like me you'll enjoy the spray arts on many of the blocks. You can walk down 30th Ave or take the bus like Q18 from the N,Q 30th Station.

Very cool place! I went with a friend to walk around and to look at the murals, and it was really amazing! There were so many and so much variety, and it was in general a very cool place to walk around. The area is pretty safe (although quite empty and bare), and the bus goes here from the closest subway stop if you don't want to walk a long way. Highly recommend if you like murals and art!

An art ghetto, or the home of the most interesting graffiti art in Astoria. Just off 30th Avenue below 12th street is a collection of graffiti murals that reflect real artistic intent. So popular has this mural become that every time I am here, I marvel at the new artwork that regularly pops up and changes frequently. My visits normally are with local groups esp the Greater Astoria Historical Society that includes it on any old Astoria event.

I accidentally discovered these murals while taking an alternate route to Socrates Sculpture Park two years ago. It was an amazing discovery. The murals are wonderful and are definitely museum worthy pieces of art. My photos will say more than my words ever can. It's a bit of a hike from the subway, but well worth it. If you take the N/Q (soon to be W again) train to Astoria Blvd., walk west on Astoria Blvd (towards the river). You'll start to notice them once you get past 21st St. Make a left on 14th St., and you'll see the main area. Then you can just wander around and enjoy!

A must see. The murals are awesome and exploring the area is a blast. It seems short but as you walk around you can see that it's blocks and blocks of murals. Honestly the exploring part was 90 percent of the fun.

Talent. Pure talent. Creativity and diversity. It reminds me a lot of the murals in cali ( mission) each piece says so much both with and without words. The businesses agree to have talented artists express themselves while giving a boost to the neighborhood. Easy to get to- food options nearby. Love it. Love the fact that I have art a few blocks from me and it's free!

It's unusual so I felt lucky I saw it as I passed by. It's been covered in plexiglass for protection against the weather. It appears people and businesses are rallying to keep it from removal. Check it out on the UWS and get some cool pictures in front of here. The art doesn't look like it's complex, more of like a commentary that's the more complex thing about this. It somehow has become a thing to check out, because it's one of the few surviving pieces of Banksy public art. Officially it's titled Better Out Than In #20, and was part of a series. These appeared on the UWS in October 2013 and most disappeared soon after that. An acrylic panel protects it from graffiti artists...such as Banksy. So ironic. Zabar's put up the protection and has made the public aware of this. Cool that a great place like that takes an interest in art. They have some of the best bagels so be sure to go get some. As Banksy has gone onto bigger things it's cool that one of his older projects is around. It's at Broadway and 79th on the side of a building. This is a few blocks from Zabar's.

When you come in, you are greeted by a very aesthetically pleasing interior including the iconic escalators that were designed with care. I was a little frustrated because our room which was supposed to be ready at 3 pm wasn't ready till closer to 3:15 as it was going through cleaning inspections. I will say the room was VERY clean so at least there's that. We stayed in the loft and it offered a great amount of room, esp for a New York hotel. The floor to ceiling windows are gorgeous. I appreciate that you can fully black out the rooms with curtains for quality sleep. I loved the lighting in the rooms and the bathrooms. I also loved that the shower had a single on/off control button and full sized products in lieu of minis. The room comes with the basic towels, tp, iron and then also includes a steamer! There is an amenity room on each floor where you can get more towels, an ironing board, and filtered water. The lobby bar is so fun to hang out at in the evenings. I loved the large couches. The staff was also really nice both and check in and check out. They held our luggage on both ends and were very nice to deal with. Finally, the location is amazing. You are close to so many bars and restaurants without being stuck in the hustle and bustle of midtown. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the public. I would recommend to anyone traveling to New York!

In the NE, we don't have good weather often, so Summer is the *best* time to take advantage of the lil free NYC perks like these. Anyway: I stumbled upon this place during my recent exploratory strolls through the East Village. What a cute gem. Ample seating for such a small space, mild greenery (we're not talking a jungle and that's OK). Some lil trinkets and garden art throughout.
