Yo, dude, this isn't Chicago. What's with the El. Oh wait. What's that you say? NYC had the El before Chicago did? Hmm. Fuggedabahtit.

Jackson Heights is a district of Queens, NYC. If Queens were a city unto itself, it would be the most diverse city in the USA, and Jx Hts would be its most diverse neighborhood. I think Thriller was the moment when Jackson really hit the Heights. Particularly when he first did the moonwalk at Motown's 25th. I come to Jackson Heights every single time I'm in NYC. I can't believe it's not on Yelp yet. You have Williamsburg, Astoria, and every little part of Manhattan, but no Heights? Well, you do now. I was last here 3 months ago and will be here again in a couple of weeks. I could literally live here but I'd get very overweight. The population is 108k. It's known as a South Asian neighborhood but try telling that to the masses of Whites, Blacks, Hispanics and others. It's a true blend of everything and it's better that way. I once met a girl in Jx Hts. She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene. I said, don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one? Who would take, you to get, ethnic food. She said I am the one who wold take, her to get, ethnic food. Before I continue with my Michael Jackson rendition, let me tell you what I think of JH. This is my favourite part of my favourite food city in the whole world. The number of choices you have here are absolutely incredible. One of these days I'm going to update this review and provide a proper list of the best of the best foods of Jackson Heights. But for now I'll just go over them briefly. Other than food, Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations of any borough in America. It's home to the Latinos, the South Asians, and so much more, you name it, they make their home here. It's a paradise of food and culture fusion. It's packed 24 7 with nom-mers and nom-sellers. Here is my Jackson Heights list although it's still being updated and a few more things will be added to it soon. Also it includes nearby Elmhurst. http://www.yelp.com/list/nyc-queens-jackson-heights-jackson-heights Some of the best food in this area is: Jugos Prontito Y Algo Mas - the best colombian juices in the world, also good colombian dogs and burgers - get the cholado drink, it will change your life Sammy's Halal - for the best Halal Cart food ever Starry Bakery - for amazing Portuguese tarts El Pollo Inka - best Peruvian Chicken and green sauce in NYC Tacos Al Suadero - for the best Horchata in town Las Americas Bakery - best raspado and coffee Parceros Colombian Bakery - guava pastry, and chorizo w/green salsa Lemon Ice King of Corona - in nearby Corona, amazing lemon ice Arepa Lady 2 - amazing store front location for the best Arepas, get the Choclo Rincon Criollo - get the Ropa Vieja Taqueria Coatzingo - for good tacos and licuados and Mexican drinks Gata Golosa - for Colombian juices Rio De La Plata Bakery - for Argentinian baked goods La Casa Del Pollo Peruano - amazing Peruvian chicken Tortilleria Nixtamal - good tamales and such Lali Guras - for Nepalese food For 40 days and for 40 nights, I was on food tour. I gained so much weight I broke the bed. Not in my plans. Couldn't dance. Couldn't walk. I was round. People always told me be careful what you eat. Don't go around eating everything (hee). And mama always told me, you like food way too much. Jackson Heights, you are my lover You're just a place with every food under the sun But being overstuffed is not much fun (Hee hee hee)

The Ramp - The Ramp mural on Rego Park-Forest Hills border

Some claim that this mural is in Rego Park, but I side with those who place it in Forest Hills…read more The Ramones were a Forest Hills band, after all. Based on a 1975 photograph, the mural is the work of a West Village artist, Ori Carino. It marks a spot dubbed "the birthplace of punk," where the four founding members of the group liked to hang out in their youth. Despite having lived in Forest Hills for a decade, I was unaware of the artwork's existence until I stumbled across it a few weeks ago. It is in the alleyway that connects 66th Avenue to 66th Road.

Actually Jamie M. Clearwater, FL, this is Rego Park. Everyone refers to Rego Park as Forest Hills. People like Leslie West, Waddy Wachtel, Ronnie Earl, etc., really lived in Rego Park and not Forest Hills but since we all went to the same schools we all referred to the entire neighborhood as Forest Hills. Anyway, this is just a ramp now that leads to a locked gate where no can access. When we were growing up there wee no locks and gates and we played stickball, touch football, ringolevio, punchball, handball, etc., and others, like the Ramones, Leslie West, etc., would hang out on the ramp ... lots of activity but now, all locked up, pretty sad!

Driving With Pizza On The Dashboard - Much statistically safer than Riding in Cars with Boys

Driving With Pizza On The Dashboard

You could call this my Dashboard Confessional…read more But I know other people who do this, so I am... vindicated! I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself. So, driving with pizza on the dash. You could end up dropping the slice and dashing all your dreams. Or get a dash of tomato sauce on your clothes. Who knows. Not something that I recommend doing, but something that I end up doing all the time, and often end up regretting. Because it does have the tendency to go flying in One Direction (hi Niall Horan!) or another. If I'm lucky it might land on my lap the right way up. Then it's just a grease stain or two. If I'm not lucky I might totally mess up the rental car upholstery, stain my clothes, slice upside down on the floor or even go right out the window. Nobody is better at keeping stuff on the dashboard while driving with it but nevertheless this is not the best place to put it. Take the time and put it somewhere that it belongs. And again if you decide to do this anyway then I would say that it makes for a great photo op. You can actually steer on the road in a way that makes the pizza slide the way you want it to. It's pretty cool. Until you hit a lamppost. It's all fun and games until you hit a lamppost. What do you mean that wasn't a lamppost. Did anyone ever consider that a hit-and-run is sort of like a hit-it-and-quit-it but more violent and less sexy? It's not so much that you could get into a car crash because who really cares about the car but IT'S THAT YOU COULD LOSE YOUR F**KING PIZZA. Can you imagine your pizza ends up face down on the floor. I mean face up is no problem just eat the f**ker anyway but face down and you get a lot of hair and dirt all over the cheese and tomato and whatever and that's just not going to work out. I mean I've made it work out but it still diminishes the yumzlyness. So I strongly recommend you don't do this driving with Pizza on the dash crap. However I've done it so many times that I can't really give it a low rating because I'm ridiculously good at it. I've had quite a few unfortunate incidents because of my habit of doing this but the unfortunate incidents are usually to do with clothes and food and never to do with running people over or smashing a car up thankfully. He says while writing this review while mowing people down in Park Slope. That slope could really f*** with my slice though. It might slide right out the window. Someone call Calvin Harris.

Haven't had any pizza like this since Pizza Palace on Bayard Street by Columbus Park closed. Easy to eat half a pie by oneself. Crispy, thin crust, perfect amount of sauce and oil (about 2 drips per plain slice, not drowning, but reminds you that this is true NYC pizza), lightly cheesed, but still has a good stringy mozzarella pull. For a similar, but slightly thicker (100% yum factor) NYC slice, it's Manos in Ridgewood. For, the thinnest and crispiest plain slice in NYC, Louie's is the standard bearer. Parked in front, ordered a whole pie, ran inside, threw down some cash, waited outside for the fresh pie to bake. 10 minutes later the owner (possibly Louie hisself) delivers the fresh pie to my car outside and actually thanks me. True Twilight Zone stuff. I scarf a fresh, hot slice straight from the carton before stowing the balance back to Long Island for additional reheat confirmation. With all the political nonsense ongoing, thank Goodness that a righteous, NYC plain slice is still alive, well and residing in un-hipster, un-gentrified, un-apologetically friendly-neighborhood Spiderman Elmhurst. "Best NYC style pizza" is a term that is minimized and bandied about every time some new $60, limited-run, kraft pizza from Japan is the current darling. We submit that this is not the case here. May Louie's be here after all the LES, deep dish, 3 Michelin star bakers and pizza itamae have exhausted their day in the limelight - and leases. $20 all-in (until the hipster masses beat a path here to make Louie's their pizza crusade ) Thank you Louie for giving us working class masses the best, true, unlimited, unpretentious, no-lines, no soup Nazi, no upsell, satisfyingly NYC pizza a $20 can still buy. PS: please don't renovate or move as your pizzeria is a time-capsule whose prime ingredient is sincerity.

Busy, active and definitely for the community given the notes, decorations. I always wanted to stop by here for a slice after watching the owner and father's heroic effort protecting an Asian lady who was being robbed in front of their store. Slice was solid at $3. OK looking undercarriage but limited floop. Only knock is bottom had too much flour remaining. Solid neighborhood spot. People were getting pasta dishes too. Ample seating. Friendly staff.
