Just south of Prospect Park, there is lots to do and see. It has many chain stores like Target, but there's also lots of local businesses. There's restaurants serving a variety of cuisines from around the world. Go if you want to see what the real Brooklyn is like. It has less crime than it did a few years ago. Take a drive through an afternoon before it gets dark and you should be okay.

Back in the past we were warned to stay away from 1st Ave above 86th street at night, and it was justified as at times we saw fights in bodegas, gun shots, cops chasing thugs, and more. It has developed since then to be safe community offering many terrific restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, even speakeasies and some fun nightlife options. With the Q subway line now here on 2nd Ave, the best line in the city, it offers easy access to all parts of Manhattan down to Coney Island. There is a nice mix of old and new here, along with affordable apartments if you hunt a bit. It's really more of a residential area with plenty of parents with kids, schools, dogs, and a few minutes walk to Central Park, and the East River Esplanade. Its also a great place for younger single folks to live as its very walkable too with enough bars and spots to mingle.

Our community of businesses survived the Second Avenue Subway Construction for years. Then we had a rough go with the COVID outbreak trying to survive by changing our behavior. Businesses spent a lot of money and followed regulations for outdoor dining. Anything to keep us safe. I'm glad I live in my Yorkville Zip Code. I'm so proud of my neighborhood I used to take visiting Yelp friends on what I called my "Yorkville Tour." I'm highly recommending this neighborhood for young and elderly alike. It's adjacent to Ruppert Park and offers benches on both sides of the street to take a chill break. Also, there is a Citi Bike rack here. The local community organization sponsors movie nights on the street and other activities mainly for the children in the area. It's been a terrific spot to take grab and go cocktails during the pandemic, and relax for a spell. It's paved with bricks and the top of the hill near 3rd Ave is falling apart and sinking. Been this way for two years now and is a danger risk. Why has the city not fixed this yet? Instead they just put metal barricades around it and neglect it. Typical.

Cagney was born on Manhattan's lower East Side but was raised in Yorkville, an area heavily populated by German emigrants and noted for its breweries, including Ruppert's on the 91st Street site. I'm busy enjoying the beautiful breeze, lovely trees and hopefully a pigeon won't poop on me! The Plaza is adjacent to Ruppert Park. Come and sit for a spell! Later learned that the tower was a memorial for our Revolutionary War fallen veterans. George Washington snuck away from the Redcoats in the middle of the fog to avoid defeat in one of the many Revolutionary W battles. Spike Lee had a store The Spike Lee Joint selling clothing hats etc from his line at the time from the 80's to I believe 90's. Tennis courts in Fort Greene Park. Also the park was the site of the gauntlet gang initiation scene in The Education of Sonny Carson. Brooklyn Tech. The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Barclay's, Junior's, The Albee Square Food Court, and countless excellent restaurants. Oh.
