A life long Queens resident where this New York City borough have two airports (LGA and JFK), one casino, one horse racetrack, one botanical garden, one national wildlife refuge, one national park (Jacob Riis Park), one tennis court where the U.S.T.A. hosts the annual U.S. Open, one baseball stadium, two forts (Fort Totten Park and Fort Tilden), former home to the 1964-1965 and 1939 New York World's Fair-- Queens is the place to be. Review# 420 Hello all my Yelper Friends. I first was introduced to Queens as a child when my parents took me to the 1964 World's Fair. I did not know I was in Queens. But had a wonderful time at the World's Fair especially with the small world Pavilion, Sinclair Oil's Dino Land and Tomorrowland. We returned to the fair the following year and lamented when it closed. This started my romance with Queens. In 1969 the New York metropolitans made history by winning the World Series championship. I sat glued to the television as a child with my grandparents rooting for what seemed The Impossible. I can never forget their jubilation when our team won. And there was born another Mets fan. A half of a century later Queens once again called my name. With the World's Fair as memory of my youth, I traveled to Flushing for a first blind date with my wife-to-be. I met her for the first time at the Sheraton in Flushing. As our eyes met, I knew my search for my soulmate had come to its conclusion and had brought me back to Flushing again. Like a Phoenix from the Flames, I had been Reborn. Flushing was absolutely amazing, I had lived in a more rural area of Long Island, where am I was accustomed to the sidewalks rolling up after 9 p.m. Flushing Queens had the most exciting nightlife, with restaurants that never closed and Karaoke Bars that sang Into the Night. I discovered all the exciting eateries and places that my wife had called home. I taught myself Mandarin Chinese that I could become a Community member of my new hometown. Now 6 years later, I have fallen in love with my town of Flushing in Queens, Planet Earth. I know every nook and cranny and alleyway here. I know where all the free parking is and the great restaurants. I have worked hard and I now have a beautiful Home and Office here in my new hometown here in Queens. Being able to afford living in the metro area is not easy. I must travel 600 miles a week to the tip of Long Island and in between, to earn my living. But I am so happy to make a big difference in folks lives, with the work that I do. I protect others from harm, and fear. To know my purpose in life is a wonderful thing. Many live and never realize why they are here. I am proud to call Queens my hometown. A place I can call my own I've found. JIM D.

I read a couple of reviews and I also felt like my 100th check-in should be my hometown. It is where I was born & raise. Where I rest my head, met my best friend & learn how to run these streets. It is a beautiful town. Lots of space to stretch your arms out without hitting anyone. A place with lots of culture. It is a place that is a hidden gem in NY......& I like it like that. Queens, NY

Review 300 kinda snuck up on me... What? Already? But at least I knew exactly what I will be writing about for this one. Queens!!! Years ago, when I first came to NYC, I met this lady at work who became a very good friend over the years. Rose. She lived in Queens, and I often took a train from Brooklyn to her house to work on the projects over weekend, and spend time with her family. I would play old platformer games on her computer or work for hours hunched over drafting boards, while she cooked some simple filipino food for all of us, singing as she did so in tiny kitchen. In a way, mama Rose and Queens became my adoptive home. This is how good-hearted and welcoming people who live here are.... Now, it is 2014, and I still come to Queens when I need food for my soul. Queens to me is all about diversity. It is so multifaceted and different from every angle, you will never get bored exploring it. The World Fair and Fresh Meadows, old-school shops of Elmhurst, delicious food in Astoria, the craziness of JFK, and Museums that are truly hidden treasures - that is all Queens. I take Brooklyn-Queens expressway often, from my office in Brooklyn to Queens. Walk the alleys of Fresh Meadows in fall, when leaves turn red, and sun still kisses beautiful statues in the park. Go to Italian delis in Elmhurst for best sandwiches you had. Or stop at JoJu for amazing banh mi. And if you craving the crepes, find your way to Fresca la Crêpe for crepe perfection. Feel like shopping? Several shopping malls along with little boutiques await you. Looking for cultural weekend? The museums here are simply amazing. Louis Armstrong, Noguchi, Museum of Moving image, Queens museum... Yes, it is all Queens! Come and explore yourself!

I was born and raised in Manhattan and I am currently staying with my brother in Manhattan. I lived in Queens only half the amount of time I lived in Manhattan. I choose to make my home in Queens. I love the authenticity of the food in Queens which comes from the diversity. I got my own place in Queens because it is more affordable and you get more square footage for your money. It's so big, the postal office had to break down Queens into neighborhoods. Owning a car in most of Queens is actually doable because most neighborhoods have parking. And it seems as though the traffic is way better than what I experienced in Manhattan and Brooklyn. It's closer to Long Island and the airports. Most of the people I know are in Queens including my boyfriend. It's home to Queens County Farm Museum's history dates back to 1697. It occupies New York City's largest remaining tract of undisturbed farmland and is the only working historical farm in the city. And we have Jando as the Community Manager.

One thing About this place I thought was odd, and I didn't like was that you couldn't get linguini or rigatoni as your side pasta. You had to pick either between spaghetti or penne. My husband and I split the pasta fagioli and my sister had the minestrone soup for our appetizers. WOW the pasta fagioli soup was FANTASTIC! It was one of the best pasta fagioli soups we both ever had! My sister loved the minestrone soup. For dinner we had the red snapper livornese, eggplant parm, and the fried shrimp & calamari. We all loved and raved how good our dinners were all night! The eggplant parm was one of the best we ever had as well! It was so lightly breaded it melted in your mouth. The livornese sauce to the red snapper tasted AMAZING, and fish was so Fresh! This place is no frills in appearance, but the Italian food is authentic and delicious! I highly recommend IL Nocello in Whitestone!

A huge plus is the paid parking lot around the corner with an exit onto 150th St, just a few doors down from the restaurant. Anyone familiar with the area knows street parking can be challenging , so that definitely made things easier. I came here to celebrate a dear friend's milestone birthday, and since she loves Italian food, this was her pick. We started by sharing the fried calamari, which was nicely fried and included both rings and tentacles. Neither of us eat the tentacles, so we pushed those aside. The calamari comes with a choice of mild, medium, or spicy tomato sauce -- we chose medium -- though honestly, I'm happy with just a squeeze of lemon on fried calamari. Each entrée comes with a choice of side dishes, and you can also upgrade both the pasta and sauce options. My friend ordered the Chicken Sorrentino, topped with prosciutto, eggplant, roasted peppers, and melted mozzarella over chicken cutlets. For her side, she upgraded to gnocchi and then upgraded again to Bolognese sauce. I had the Chicken Marsala, which was tender and juicy. Both dishes came with two thin cutlets each, but between the bread, garlic knots, and calamari, we only managed to eat one cutlet apiece and took the rest home. The Marsala sauce was flavorful and tasty. I personally would've loved more mushrooms, but overall it was still very good. I chose roasted potatoes on the side, and from the one bite I managed before getting too full, they were delicious. If you're in the neighborhood -- or even nearby -- this place is definitely worth trying. One thing to note: they only serve beer and wine, no full liquor bar. My Pinot Grigio was decent, and my friend enjoyed a light beer with her meal.
