First, the house itself is just beautiful: Victorian style, with a pool and what looks like a full bar in the "shed" in the backyard. The house is owned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire and his wife [1]. Skeletons emerge from the ground among gravestones in the bushes by the front lawn. The wrap-around porch is chock-full of real-size animatronic figures such as haunted clowns, ghosts, zombie children, a giant werewolf and 3 homicidal piggies. A dozen skeletons with beaming red eyes climb the exterior of the house; giant spiders take over the fence. A butcher with a massive mallet and a circular saw for hands, and a possessed dog that leaps out of a doghouse, alongside projections of ghosts on the windows. Only thing, I feel bad for their front lawn that gets literally butchered by all the people walking on it. It's generally safe in the day. Wouldn't want to be there at night. It is a pretty iconic area. It's named after one of Brooklyn's main streets, which runs through the neighborhood. Just south of Prospect Park, there is lots to do and see. It has many chain stores like Target, but there's also lots of local businesses. There's restaurants serving a variety of cuisines from around the world. Go if you want to see what the real Brooklyn is like. It has less crime than it did a few years ago. Take a drive through an afternoon before it gets dark and you should be okay.

I've repeatedly been involved in conversations that go something like this: Q: Where do you live? A: Brooklyn Q: Which neighborhood? A: Windsor Terrace Q: No, which neighborhood? A: (with frustration) Windsor Terrace These dialogues tend to remind me of "Who's on First?," and it doesn't surprise me in the least that Windsor Terrace was not (until now) on the Yelp map. 2. Park Slope should not be taking all the flak for containing the most Maclarens / Baby Bjorns per square foot of sidewalk. After all, it was the Double Windsor on Prospect Park West that lead the pack in instituting a stroller ban after 5 p.m. (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/brooklyn/babies_bounced_after_at_windsor_NV2B1Yw7GlvFXy1wdY6rVO). The incidents leading to the stroller ban illustrate that, for the most part, the childless and those with child (or broods) who call this neighborhood home "blend but do not mix." We prefer to stay in Brooklyn (my favorite city in the world) and live like a local for a few days, choosing a rental apartment over staying in a hotel. I like to explore different neighborhoods and the culture each one offers, as every one is distinct in their own right. This year we choose Windsor Terrace, a more residential and somewhat suburban neighborhood compared to ones in the past. We drove to Brooklyn instead of taking the train so the ample street parking was a key factor in our decision. Like mentioned before this neighborhood felt a little more suburban and featured a variety of home styles. While I didn't see any genuine brownstowns there were some with the same styling. Many of the homes had driveways and/or garages. The neighborhood was flanked by a highway on one side and the historic Greenwood cemetery on the other. The subway accessibility was not as saturated as in other neighborhoods so we opted to walk and drive. There were several small parks within walking distance that featured nice playgrounds for smaller children but limited green space. Overall it was much quieter and you almost forgot the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn was only a few blocks away. For me personally as much as I appreciated the safety and ease of parking I prefer someplace more upbeat and lively. We had to drive or walk a good 20-30 minutes to get to an area that had multiple retail and dining choices. In our immediate 5 block radius there was only a café, a pizza joint, and an ice cream place. The residents were all very nice and Sat and Sunday had "stoop sales" where everything was free. It was relaxing to walk around and check out everyone's items that were up for grabs. We enjoyed ice cream from Kathy's and sat in the park. Overall a nice visit, one that I would consider again if I was driving.

I ended up with a cracked head (18 staples, 4 stitches) and a broken nose requiring surgery. This B&B has been HORRIBLE to work with. They have told me they would refund my 2 night stay. Later they said it would take 30 to 60 days. Later again, they said it would take 90 days. They told me in writing they never charged my credit card, which they absolutely did. They picked up the phone the first time I called but then ignored several messages and a text. Book It.com had to contact them because they were hard to work with. I'm frustrated because they asked me to cancel my booking so someone else could take my booking, which I did, but they have not refunded my money. It would be appreciated if they would communicate why this is so complicated for them. I just hope for a little compassion and help.

However, I bought my house here over 40 years ago, raised a family, and have been very happy. Prospect Lefferts Gardens is a beautiful Brooklyn brownstone neighborhood with three designated Historic Districts [the main Prospect-Lefferts Gardens Historic District, designated in 1979 and two smaller ones, designated fairly recently-Ocean on the Park and Chester Court. About 2/3rds of te main Historic District is Lefferts Manor, which has single-family deed covenants (dating back to 1893) and zoning (R2). Prospect Lefferts Gardens has always been a middle class neighborhood. It defied strong efforts to "block bust" it in the early '60s and emerged at what IMO (and that of many others) as perhaps the most successfully integrated neighborhood in NYC. It never really deteriorated like many other historic brownstone neighborhoods and thus never needed to be "gentrified" however in recent years manhy middle class people have been moving into local apartment buildings, in addition to the historic one and two-family houses, which some have likened to gentrification. This HAS increased the customer base for more upscale businesses than could have been supported by the relatively small numbers of people living in the historic houses.

Even though most of North Brooklyn is now gentrified, it has not completely lost its cultural identity! I'm happy that cultural institutions such as the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) have been preserved! They definitely help to maintain a sense of community and history, in addition to the many Soul Food, African and Caribbean restaurants that still remain. Not to mention, Moshood is still standing strong! For those of you who don't know, Moshood is a Nigerian designer that's been around for ages..he designs African apparel and accessories for Men and Women. The flagship store has been a neighborhood staple on Fulton St in Fort Greene since the mid nineties, until they relocated to a new location in Bed Stuy in 2019. It is most definitely a Neighbourhood treasure! Brooklyn is also home to the beautiful Prospect Park, the historical / famous Coney Island amusement park ( Both Sooo Nostalgic!), the Brooklyn Botanical gardens, Brooklyn Promenade and so much more!! Speaking of the Promenade, If you're in the mood for a nice stroll, stop at the Häagen-Dazs shop on Montague Street for a sweet treat, then go for a walk along the Brooklyn Promenade! The breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, the East River, and the Brooklyn Bridge are remarkable! This never gets old! Shopping downtown BK? Take a break and stop at thee Famous Junior's Cheesecake for a-slice of heaven on Flatbush ave ext!! There is so much to do in Brooklyn and so much to appreciate here! Simple pleasures!! The diverse neighborhoods, each with its own distinct character and history, reflect the borough's overall multicultural identity. I see that people are sitting on the sofa & bar stools while drinking coffee and working on their laptops. Besides the indoor seating, there's an outdoor seating area both with red scaffold and ones out in the open with the sun beating down on people's back.
