First of all the color and decor in this place is so cute. Even the bathroom transport you into the tropics. Like the owner said, plantains reign here and they surely proved that. From the Haitian hot chocolate, the herring and chicken patties/ empanadas to the griot sliders, the fried chicken and plantain waffle, passionfruit lemonade, the black rice bowls, and the plantain pizza with Tasso. Everything was delicious, perfectly seasoned with some things having a little kick. My favorite had to be the griot sliders. I'm coming back just for these. I was so stuffed and a happy girl by the end of this event. Thank you to Yelp and Bunnan for welcoming us.

This worthwhile event was arguably one of the best foodie events I've been to in my 9 years as a Yelp Elite Squad member. The Haitian specialty cuisine was yummy. My favorite course was the final one... the cheesy lightly sweet goat pizza! The owner, Nadej (Spelling?) catered to vegetarians & non-red meat eaters alike. (Try the mushrooms if you get a chance!) The service was prompt, and accommodating there was plenty of food to go around. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. The company at our rear patio table gave me LIFE! Loving all the well spent time with new gal pals Mandisa, Sheynelle, Maria, Marina & Jess! No FOMO here. I'm so glad I came and intend to return again. Thanks Morlene, the Yelp photographer, Nadej and her diligent staff. Congratulations on your second location. I'll miss you all at Smorgasburg, but I'll see you here again!

This was a great event. We had beautiful weather and the space allowed for some people to be inside or outside. Saw some familiar faces but was happy to connect with some new-to-me Brooklyn elite members. I'm familiar with Bunnan but this was my first time at this location. By all means, this was a feast. This is what was on the menu. "plantain pizza, sweet & green plantain sliders, plantain nachos, djon djon rice bowls, sweet plantain waffle with friend chicken, chicken and smoke herring patties. The protein options for the rice bowl and pizza were griot pork, goat, jerk chicken, mushroom and red snapper. No complaints on the food overall but I wasn't a fan of the chicken and waffles. The whole pairing was off with the flavors of the chicken andbthe syrup. Overall we were stuffed and had enough for left overs. If I had to pick a favorite for the evening, i'm gonna go with the goat plantain pizza and the rice bowl. Delish. Our beverage options included Haitian hot chocolate, passion fruit lemonade, malta and Haitian cola, Lecaye. Upon arrival the tables had a nice cloth yelp table mat. nice touch!

This is got to be one of my favorite elite events we've ever done. There was plenty of seating inside and outside and a goodie box with some fun Yelp swag. I also appreciated the really cute Yelp embroidered placemats, and printed paper umbrellas. Jimmy was amazing! He made sure that we were taking care of it all times and throughout the night we were served water, delicious Haitian, hot chocolate, and ice cold passionfruit lemonade. We also got to try plantain chips, fried chicken and waffles, with some really unique, tasting rum sauce, chicken and smoked herring patties, plantain sliders with pork griot, a rice bowl with spiced cabbage and chicken, and plantain pizzas. Hours flew by and everyone had a blast. I will absolutely be recommending stopping by for a meal at Bunnan to all my friends and think they'd make great catering for any party as well. Huge shout out to the Yelp and Bunnan teams for making this happen!

This was an amazing YEE. From the Haitian plantain (bunnan) focused food, to generous hosts, to the outdoor oasis, and to my dining companions and the flowing conversation--everything was stellar. Standouts to me were the smoked herring patties, the plantain sliders, and the Djon Djon rice bowls. I was glad to learn about Caribbean foods, especially the spicy, pickled cabbage called pikliz. And for the vegetarians, the mushrooms were absolutely delicious. Special shoutouts to the owner/bill payer for hosting, our community manager for facilitating, and to our server, Jimmy, for his care and attention.

Bunnan food was on point. All the food we had was amazing. I have never had djon djon rice and was pleased with it and oh them picklez was hitting with the combo of the rice and jerk chicken in the chicken bowl. I love that they use the yellow plantain in a lot of their dishes since it's my fav banana. The hot chocolate took me back to my holidays when my mom made me cocoa tea in the am. It was rich and thick and just home in a cup. I love that all their cups had their bunnan marketing on it. The steel cups keeps drinks cold. The decor in the shop is very tropical and intimate.

Looooved this evening! Such great company, food, and vibes! Hot chocolate was the bomb! Already know I'm coming back for this! Fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had--perfectly flaky, light, and juicy. Wow! Definitely a highlight of tonight. Pork plantain sliders were another night favorite. Such punch of flavors and textures! The rice bowl was big and filling. Perfect hearty dish to warm up in this season. Huge thanks to Morlene and Bunnan team for brining us together!

I enjoyed BUNNAN so much. First of all the service was immaculate. The staff and service was accommodating and friendly, and I appreciated that they always made sure we had what we needed at our tables and welcomed us like we were family. The space was very clean and well decorated, it definitely gave that Caribbean Haitian vibe with decor of the green walls, art pictures on the wall, the plants in the different corners and the Haitian artifacts that were strategically placed throughout the restaurant. Now for the food and dining experience, run, don't walk and visit this restaurant. Everything I had was absolutely amazing. I am a lover of Haitian food so it is not new to me, but I am very critical about the taste only because I know what good food tastes like especially when it's Caribbean food. I don't know which meal was my favorite because everything was so good. The Haitian chocolate milk was good. Their lemonade was great and I like the fact that every drink I had the cup was branded so throughout your whole experience, you can't forget where you are. I indulged in Haitian herring patties, the plantain sliders, the plantain pizza, and the diri djon bowl. This was their black rice with purple cabbage, green salad, shredded jerk chicken, their kind of pepper sauce, and pickliz which is a spicy Shredded cabbage and carrots mixture. As far as proteins, you could have chosen from goat, the jerk chicken, fish, shrimp, or vegetables. Everything was delightful. I love pizza so the fact that I could have it a little bit healthier on plantain was a plus for me. It wasn't messy to eat. It was well prepared and the plantain was flattened well and still was sweet. It wasn't crunchy or bland at all. One thing for sure, they put their hearts and love into the seasoning and taste of their food.

The owner wasn't kidding when she said there would be a lot of food. The empanada crust was perfect with a great texture, crispy without being doughy. The smoked fish filling was also a nice surprise since you don't usually see that, even at places that specialize in empanadas. The chicken and waffles were solid. The chicken was crunchy and well seasoned, while the waffle could have used a little more flavor. A touch of sweetness would have made it better. My favorite dish, and the one my whole table kept talking about, was the black rice. It was rich, full of flavor, and had this earthy flavor we later learned came from being cooked in mushroom broth. Swapping out the usual carbs for plantains in a couple dishes also worked really well and gave both dishes something different.

Excited for a night of smash plantains. Thank you Nadege for opening your doors to us, the staff for serving us, and Morlene and yelp team for making this happen. The evening started with a taste of Haitian Hot Chocolate, rich and dark. The cups were meant for traveling, which would have been a good takeaway. Our appetizers were bountiful - started with a patty, choice of salted red herring or spiced chicken, both delicious. Next up was the chicken and plantain waffles. Waffles were on the softer and light side, could be the texture of plantain. Although the cremas maples syrup was a good touch, chicken itself was well seasoned and tasty. I think my favorite so far was the savory pork griot sliders on plantain chips. A mixture of spicy, tangy, sour combined as one. Once the apps rolled in, we were given a mango passionfruit juice to refresh ourselves and our pallets. After some time, we were given the rice bowl, shared between 2-3 persons, filled with various veggies, chicken, and pork. I would've been happy with just this but there was more! The plantain pizza was to come but alas, my MTA bus carriage was arriving so I took this to go. My partner at home ate it, gave a nod, and said, "Haitian food is good."

Thanks to yelp and Bunnan for showing me that plantains can be more than just chips! I have to come back for the plantain sliders, it was the best bite of the night. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty, soft and crunchy. The djon djon rice bowl was my second favorite. It's perfect to share family style. The rice, meat, and greens worked so well together. Especially the pikliz because I liked the slight kick. The jerk chicken plantain pizza was also delicious. Even when reheated, it was still good. I normally don't like when plantains are too sweet but this was so well balanced with the salty meat I didn't mind the sweetness at all. The chicken patty was very good and crispy but a little too oily. I wasn't the biggest fan of the plantain waffles but the fried chicken was amazing. The Haitian hot chocolate was an interesting drink. The clumps of chocolate threw me off at first but then I grew to like it. The cup design is very pretty, I love the gold on black. I preferred the passion fruit lemonade which was a very sweet fruity drink. Overall, this was a great event with amazing food!

We were so spoiled for this event! Bunnan truly knows how to showcase plantains in so many different and creative ways. Prior to this I've only had it as regular fried plantains or in chip version! The sliders were my top favorite with the smoked herring patty as my close runner up. I will come back just for those! Other standouts are the plantain pizza with jerk chicken (worth the wait!), djon djon rice bowls (the sauce was the best part), the passion fruit lemonade (my favorite drink), and the Haitian hot chocolate (this would be perfect for the winter!!!) Huge thanks to Morlene and Yelp Team for curating such a flavorful event! Shoutout to the Bunnan team for being great hosts and for introducing us to such creative plantain creations from your culture! Looking forward to my next visit at your restaurant!

Thank you so much to bunnan and Morlene!! What a fantastic event!! The food was non stop flowing and all of the items were delicious. Of notable mention were the djon djon rice which was probably some of the best rice bowls I've ever had. The plantain pizza which got eaten the following day due to being so full was a great reminder of last nights event. I will be back for actual dinner in the near future!! Thank you again for a great time and wonderful warm welcoming staff!

I ordered their wings as my appetizer, shrimp/bacon taco for entrée and tres leche for dessert. With that they also offered me some fresh fried taco with homemade salsa that was really delicious and made me wanting more even though I had to pace myself. Presentation wise, it was all instagramable. They restaurant is very conscious about presentation so that was a huge plus. As for taste, it was all good. I especially enjoy my shrimp/bacon taco as it was huge and those trio-side sauce (hot sauce, green sauce and pumpkin sauce) was just outright slamming. Saturday Brunch-In in Throggs Neck!…read more Lena Trattoria has been in the "Neck" for two years and they have made their mark. As they continue to respond to customers' feedback they are introducing a new Luxe Brunch menu and we were granted the opportunity to check it out. On a warm Saturday afternoon we arrived and were greeted by Shah. With our plus 1's we were checked-in and then grabbed seats. As we perused the new brunch menu we also had the opportunity to take in the design of the place. Very fresh and aesthetically pleasing with a modern design. Lena, gives an open yet intimate vibe. They have the perfect back drop for a group or date night. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful as we all made our selection for the 3 courses. While there is ample to choose from, a couple of observations, there wasn't many protein options especially for people like me whom do not eat red meat or pork. As well as there were no side items listed even for an a-la-carte charge. However, I'm sure you can order additional items. The service was great even when they fell a little behind. The entertainment was amazingly perfect, a saxophonist who did his damn thing! The food was good a the drinks were flowing. Personally, I would have liked more continuity between all three courses. If you don't pick wisely you will end up with a carb-heavy meal. Without realizing it serval dishes have bread. Which is not bad, I love me some bread, but by the end it was too much. Again it's because I should have paid closer attention to my selections. I selected the lobster roll to start, fresh and nice flavor, however filling to bread ratio was not balanced. This could have just been an oversight because of the size of our event. I went with the french toast for my main course and it was perfect. While it was available, no syrup was needed. Again with no side options for a protein, they were nice enough to allow me to order grilled chicken breast. Sounds like a weird combo, but with limited options available for me, it went well. The chicken was flavorful, nicely seasoned and surprisingly very tender and juicy. Lastly for dessert I opted for the bread pudding (again my fault... too much bread). It was tasty but capacity had been reached, so I only had a nibble. Brunch @ Lena's was a lovely treat and an amazing sit down event. Thank you to the oh so fab Shah! To the manger, staff, and owners of Lena Trattoria for both their hospitality and generosity. Just A Note: Lena Trattoria gives you the vibe of a restaurant in city without the congestion pricing. It has that cozy-yet-upscale feel that makes you want to linger a little longer over your coffee. The only downside was that there weren't many substitutions available for those who don't eat pork, which was a bit of a letdown. We mentioned it to the manager, and they were kind enough to make other provisions for us, but it would've been nice if those options were already available. A few items didn't include any protein, and there wasn't an option to add sides, which would've been a great touch. The drinks were fantastic because they were fresh, flavorful, and regularly refilled. And Absolutely awesome live music! It created such a fun, lively atmosphere that had everyone smiling and even dancing a little. I've enjoyed dinner here several times, but now I'm so happy to have them as a go-to brunch spot too!

Second Time's the Charm -- And I'm Officially a Tacowala Addict!…read more Okay, let me just start off by saying: this is my second time dining at Tacowala, and I'm convinced this place is a magical little flavor bomb tucked away in a downtown strip that you'd almost miss if you blinked too hard. The first time I came was with my parents -- a cozy, nostalgic kind of visit -- but this time, it felt like I was on a flavor-fueled field trip with new foodie friends, and it was an experience I won't stop gushing about anytime soon! Let's talk logistics first -- because oof, parking. If you're planning to visit, bring your patience (and maybe a parking fairy). There's only street meter parking available, and unless you're blessed by the parallel parking gods, you may end up circling the block like a shark in traffic purgatory. I've yet to discover a magical hidden lot nearby, so yeah -- parking = struggle bus. But trust me, once you step through that door, the stress just melts away. The vibe inside? Whimsical meets communal dinner party. There was a long table set up for everyone to sit together -- like one big, happy, taco-loving family. It was giving "culinary summer camp for adults," and I was all in. The cherry on top? Katarina's amazing assistant had placed icebreaker cards all over the table, mostly food-themed, so we had a fun excuse to start chatting with strangers. Think: "If you were a spice, what would you be?" Honestly, genius. Social anxiety? Never met her. Now onto the star of the show -- the pre-fix menu! (Or is it pre-fixe? Either way, it was pre-fabulous.) Katarina and the owner curated a five-dish tasting menu featuring two appetizers and three entrées -- each with delightfully detailed descriptions that read like little love letters to flavor. The portions were small, yes, but just enough to tease your taste buds and make you want to lick the plate (don't worry, I didn't... in public). Drink options were simple but satisfying: water, flavored seltzers, or wine. I flirted with the wine for a hot minute, but decided to stick with water because the food was doing the most -- a bold, creative, punchy fusion of Indian spice and authentic Mexican soul. And when I say "authentic Mexican," I mean like grandma's-kitchen-in-Oaxaca level. This wasn't Taco Bell fusion -- this was transport-you-through-time-and-space kind of food. Now let me scream about my favorites: The twisted garlic street corn? LIFE-CHANGING. I would like to be buried with it. And don't even get me started on the Black Magic Quesadillas -- they were soft, gooey, flavorful beyond reason, and coated in some kind of addictive sorcery. I swear they put something in that cheese because once I took a bite, I was hooked. Just one more, I kept telling myself... just ONE more... But alas, not everything was fireworks and unicorns. I had high hopes for the paneer al pastor and the mushroom carnitas taco, but those fell a bit flat for me. Maybe it was an off night, or maybe I was too smitten by the corn and quesadillas to focus, but either way -- it knocked off one star in my otherwise glowing review. Oh! And the heartbreak of the night: they were SOLD OUT of the Black Magic sauce jars. I almost wept. I would have bought five. I would have gifted them. I would have hoarded them like a raccoon with shiny treasures. Please, Tacowala -- restock that magic potion ASAP! Despite those tiny blips, I already know I'll be back. Again. And again. For the community vibe, the quirky charm, and most importantly -- for the corn and black magicness that has utterly bewitched my palate. Thank you, Tacowala, for another spellbinding, flavor-packed evening. I'll be dreaming of that quesadilla until we meet again.

Last Monday I had the privilege of attending this special Yelp elite event, where I was nourished…read morenot just by delicious food, but also by upbeat vibes and good conversation. I have been thinking about the outstanding food at Tacowala all week! I can't wait to go back and eat there again. I've already told a bunch of friends in the area that they must go if they haven't been already. The restaurant owner and innovator of this fantastic cuisine, Amish, was a generous and gracious host. I enjoyed hearing about his career journey and how he grew this business out of his hard work and made his ideas and dreams a reality. It's always great to be in the company of our CM Katarina--she gives every event her full energy and enthusiasm--and I was excited to meet other Yelp elites, especially people I recognized from their reviews and from our messages on Yelp: Rhonda, Danny, Amanda, and Jason. Tacowala has the kind of decor that makes me happy as soon as I step in, with murals of people smiling and singing, and a colorful counterface that reminded me of the game Twister. My eyes were constantly drawn to those big flat circles and I liked how it mirrored the shape of the tortillas. Clever. The food here was perfect in every way. The textures were so meaty that I actually forgot it was all vegetarian. The food is spicy and I love spice, so I even added extra hot sauce. As dish after dish that pleased both my eyes and my palate was placed before me, I found it increasingly hard to pick a favorite. I decided that of all the outstanding offerings, the Twisted Garlic Street Corn and the Black Magic Quesadilla are the two I have been thinking of most all week and am craving to eat again. It's so sweet that Yelp gave me a tote bag at the end, too, so I have a tangible nice reminder of this great evening, in addition to my memories and the photos and videos I took. Katarina and Amish, I am so grateful that you chose me for this uplifting experience. Thank you!

Although try as hard as he might, he didn't get the Elite treatment since he's not even close to my level; I said this could be you one day! Walked right up to the counter and placed our orders with minimal issues in deciding what to go for. I opted to claim my chicken spring roll, a smoked beef brisket pho, and a Vietnamese cold coffee to stay. These three items where under $30 all together, and was grateful to get to be a part of this YEE experience! Shoutout to the Brooklyn Yelp Team! The chicken spring roll was bouncy, and the chicken inside looked like a chicken wing; very visually satisfying. The peanut dipping sauce was very flavorful and deep in umami. A great addition to the meal; highly recommend! I couldn't get over how packed my beef brisket pho was! I've been to some places that have way more broth than the noodles ratio, and this place made it 1:1. It was such a comforting bowl to have on such a damp fall day; really happy with the depth of the broth. How could vegan beef broth be so good?!?! What else blew me away was my coworker's vegan chicken in his pho. It tasted EXACTLY like chicken! Great texture and plenty of meat in every noodley bite! The Vietnamese cold coffee was also a very pleasant first time surprise! I've never had it before, and loved how refreshing, light, and sweet it was! It really would be lovely to have on a super hot and humid day, that's for sure. Great depth of flavor in the coffee itself with Lucy's adorable packaging. Come for the vibes; come for the pho; come for the love of Lucy's!

The food was packaged securely in their own reusable bags and fully maintained their quality! The shrimp spring roll was big and delicious, and the pho was some of the most comforting I've had in a while. You get a really big portion that is very much worth what you pay, not to mention the smoked brisket is so TENDER, you'll fall in love. I also saved my Vietnamese Coffee (comes bottled as shown) for the next morning and it was SO TASTY. Not overly sweet but still very addicting. Revived my morning. Between the tea or the coffee- go for the coffee. 10/10 experience, I'm excited now to try all the variations on their menu!

Plus, it's just a short 2-min walk from Winthrop St Stop. You might even miss the spot easily because it's not too noticeable on the corner of a block. Ciao Bella (Italian) = "Hello/Goodbye, Beautiful" in English. Storefront isn't too big and the indoor space is on the smaller side. Nevertheless, the space size doesn't hurt the ambiance + relaxing vibes at the coffee shop. Upon arrival, the funky interior design gives off a vintage yet stylish sense. I see that people are sitting on the sofa & bar stools while drinking coffee and working on their laptops. Besides the indoor seating, there's an outdoor seating area both with red scaffold and ones out in the open with the sun beating down on people's back. Noise level wise is moderately quiet with the music playing in the background. What catches my attention the most are: 1) the glossy wooden guitar hanging on the wall as decorations & 2) a green felt chair with gold designs on the fabric material right next to the couch. I would love to have a comfy chair like that in my living room too. Super quick service from super respectful, friendly and helpful staff. Strong taste of coffee in the complimentary iced mocha that I'm able to order because of Morlene, thank you for treating us with drinks on a humid summer day. And the bonus is, she gifts us each of a studded Yelp tumbler who has showed up for the Yelp Community Event. Thank you to the staff (sorry I didn't get to catch your name) at Ciao Bella who comes out with a plate of Snickerdoodle and Chai cookies for the bites. There's free wifi and even a single clean restroom stall for customers in the back. The small conversation with each other is flowing with new restaurant and cafe suggestions/recommendations for future arrangements and exploring in the city. Everyone is so nice and interactive. I actually like having more intimate events like this at coffee shops because you get to have longer conversations and catch up with other Yelpers. Would like to see more workshop-related events in the future as well. I have stayed for the entire 3 hours for Ciao Bella, but you don't have to if you're in a rush. We're free to just grab a coffee and go or can stay for an hour or two and then leave on our own. No judgment and very chill vibes indeed. Thank you again to Morlene & Yelp for the Community Event invite. Thank you for the cute red Yelp tumbler. Grateful for Ciao Bella Coffee for hosting us at their cozy space.

This was definitely a unique event in and of itself since the last time it occurred was apparently over two years ago and that it featured actual content from reviewers for restaurants all throughout the lower east side! The event itself was unique in a lot of ways! Hosted within a small gallery space in the LES, it featured both pictures and snippets from reviews related to restaurants in the neighborhood. After hearing presentations from some members of the corporate team it was clear that the event was organized to promote restaurants in the area, as well as Yelp's reservation platform. What was really awesome is that Yelp also donated $250 for every restaurant that had a representative show up to City Harvest, which is New York City's largest food rescue organization, feeding the more than 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables. They also had a great spread for us to enjoy! Chicken skewers, a diverse cheese platter, and marinated beef made for some savory snacks. They also had a selections of beverages for people to enjoy while browsing throughout the space. Overall a really unique and interesting event! I'll be excited to see if they try this out for different neighborhoods, but until then thanks Ruggy and staff for another memorable Yelp event!
