Some friends and I attended an event here on a Saturday evening. We attended the 730pm slot that ended around 9pm. The had another session after the one we attended because we saw people lined up as we were leaving. Please remember to bring the debit/ credit card you used to pay for the event. One of the staff was a bit adamant about seeing the card we used to pay even after we showed her our confirmation email and photo ID. The small and intimate sitting area was full. The staff are strict with seating arrangements to ensure everyone has a great view which is accommodating. You are allowed to BYOB. Now to the best part, the musicians. We enjoyed a hour and a half of pure bliss. The musicians were so talented and played from the heart and soul and you felt it. The music was low key to sit back and relax and then upbeat to do a little movement in your chair. lol. This is definitely a place to visit and enjoy some cool jazz in Brooklyn. read more

This is a one-of-a-kind setting and performance of jazz and bebop. As with most jazz concerts, improv is encouraged so you may get other flavors too from the blues to an upbeat rag. As you ascend the stairs into a well-preserved 19th century brownstone, a man will take your coat as you admire the original finishings and molding. The jazz concerts have been operating in the same room for over 16 years, and currently do so from Fri-Sunday. The owners are so passionate about jazz and Bed-Stuy. When you buy your ticket, you'll see a list of rules, like a dress code of no jeans, hoodies, or backpacks. Years ago, these tickets used to include a fish dinner, but that ended with the pandemic. Get tickets as soon as you verbally agree to plans or else they'll sell out. Only about 20 patrons can fit, so you can bring a small group or even go alone. The musicians know each other well and joke together. The bass and piano instruments are a little banged up on the wood due to year of use, but the pitch is right on target. Although classy, Brownstone Jazz isn't too uppity and unapproachable no matter your musical knowledge. The vibes are intimate, vintage, soulful, and welcoming. The emcee, one of the owners, is excited about birthdays and audience involvement, so absolutely raise your hand if you're celebrating. My sister and I bought tickets for this jazz show in Brooklyn. It was the most amazing and memorable concert. The band played Happy Birthday to my sister at the end which was soo nice. This was one of our best date nights . It was like " Mo Betta Blues" and " Love Jones" blended together . We learned about historical Brooklyn Jazz and the band ended the night singing Billie Holiday to me . My favorite Jazz artist . My partner sprung up when he heard a " Miles Davis" song from Mo Betta Blues . You are allowed to bring " your own bag (bottle). So of course we stepped in with a bottle Viarae . Really interesting history of this brownstone being family owned for so long and Ms. Debbie turning it into a jazz venue. The setting is intimate and cozy. BYOB. Great jazz. So if we got one drink, we could have a good time more. It takes 30min by uber from Times square($70). Once you arrived, a lady tell us where we sit. We arrived last minutes so, she assigned separate seats(1in front/2 in a back). 15-20 people max. Recommend to go early for good seats. It was piano, drums and bass. Music was sooo good. The event is advertised as having a fish fry. When I inquired about it, the rude host stated the dinner stopped during COVID. Since that is the case, the website should reflect NO FISH FRY being that COVID was 6 years ago. In addition, the building reecked of gas. Whereever its coming from, it needs to be addressed. I went at the first sitting and was so happy I chose that time because there's a line waiting out the door for the second sitting. My date and I arrive around 7:10pm for the 7:30 showing and there was one couple already seated. The tables are arranged in 4x seats so couples might get paired up if there are no seats left. There are also seats in the kitchen area but not sure how well you'll be able to view. This place is so legit, you're getting tickets at Ticketmaster. $55 pp can feel a little steep but relatively speaking compared to other shows, plus BYOB, plus knowing the money actually goes to the artists & the love of jazz. Visited on a Friday night for the 8pm show. I would prefer for them to check tickets and cards (the card you used to purchase the tickets) outside but they did it once seated and in a fashion that I wasn't fond of. The place is small and tight, you'll be shoulder to shoulder with everyone but if you're comfortable with that it's a pretty good experience. It's BYOB so do so because they don't sell anything at the venue. The bands performance was great, couple notes the trumpet tried to hit and failed at but overall it was a good show. They took request towards the end which was nice. Good experience but I doubt I'll be back, but everyone should go once! read more

Brownstone Jazz was a very cool and intimate jazz experience in Brooklyn. It is one of those experiences that if you do it once, you may not have to do it again. There are so many jazz spots in NYC that I would prefer to go to one that is a little more spacious as we were sitting really close to everyone and it was hard to move around and navigate the space. Aside from the small space, it was a great time and the musicians were incredible. The entire staff was friendly, interactive, and energetic. The small audience did make it more intimate and that was a really nice part of the show. It is BYOB which is another unique part of the experience. Rare find...you must go! Unforgettably intimate jazz venue steeped in history and local culture, hosted by a charming woman whose grandparents once owned the beautifully maintained Victorian home. I had the pleasure of attending a show here as a double date with my fiance and my parents a few years ago. With a milestone birthday approaching in December, I eagerly reached out to Debbie on two occasions to inquire about hosting a private event in December. During our last conversation a few weeks ago, we went over logistical aspects and pricing. We ended off with a verbal agreement that I would call her back when I was ready to put the deposit down. The day comes and I called Debbie to ensure the date was still available and proceed with putting the deposit down. She then informs me that she didn't realize the date I wanted to hold the event, 12/11 is "during the holiday period" and she would have to "rethink" the price she'd already given me. While appropriately upset, I have already invested into having this event and therefore was willing to work with her despite her poor business etiquette however as of this review, Debbie has not gotten back to me and each time I call her she is "busy" and asks me to call her another time. At this point I feel I am begging her for decency and will no longer be reaching out. Another wonderful Black business suffering due to poor management. If anyone knows of a similar venue with better quality management, please let me know! read more

I've been to plenty of places to see jazz performances in NY but nothing quite like here. It's a vintage brownstone and the musicians play in the music parlor. The place looks great, the hostess (homeowner) is gracious and the band when we went were absolutely as good as any you'll see anywhere in NY. There's a fish fry around 10:30 and even that was super tasty ... just eat dinner first because it's more like a midnight snack than full dinner. What an amazing and unique experience!!! I highly recommend! We went here on a Friday night to celebrate Mother's Day. It's in a beautiful brownstone in Bed Stuy. When we arrived, we were greeted and got to enjoy some drinks before the show. They had some drinks available, but it's also BYOB. The room is small and intimate. There are only about 6-8 tables. The members of the band mingled with the guests and we got to learn a lot about the history of jazz in bed stuy. The musicians and vocalist were truly phenomenal! They played with such commitment and passion. I couldn't stop smiling the entire night. The fish fry is really more of a light dinner and we didn't eat until intermission, which was very very late. Luckily, I read some reviews about this and had some food before I came. So just make sure you don't come too hungry. Overall, I'd highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a unique experience.
