Gosh I love Forage Kitchen. They opened their first store when I was in grad school and I've been obsessed ever since. All of the food options are fresh and really well prepared. I also love that they allow you to put two different bases in your bowl - two servings of rice in the bowl is way too much and I love getting to add in some greens instead. I don't think I ever would have thought to combine a salad and rice bowl. It's perfection. They have delicious protein options, fresh veggies, and somehow this healthy concoction I build is absolutely delicious. I started with the power bowl, and now I do a make-your-own grain bowl that is basically a modified power bowl. My go-to creation is mixed greens, black rice, lentils, broccoli, carrot, goat cheese, and a protein (usually chicken) topped with the green goddess. Absolute yum. This is my go-to takeout spot. I try to order ahead because it takes forever to order in the store. I rarely eat in, but the few times I have there are plenty of tables, the place is light and clean. The bathrooms are shared with the whole building and I'm not sure if anyone tends to them, but hey it works. It's just so nice to have a healthy option and while it's not cheap, their pricing is reasonable for what you get. So long as it stays affordable, I'm hooked! read more

I will completely take back most of my previous review. We ordered takeout on a Friday, the order was delayed, missing extra ingredients that we paid extra for, and staff didn't bother to notify us before making it. Additionally, staff didn't tell us after waiting in the lobby for 20 min (they knew we were there becuase we asked about the order when arriving) when our order was done. After all this and asking for a partial refund on the items we paid extra for, a manager did contact us and refund the order and provide a coupon for the next. The following Monday we tried to order again. This time was even worse. The staff were very helpful and did let us know that they were out of sunflower sprouts, which we did then get to replace. However, I truly regret even wasting my time with forage again, regardless if I had a coupon from the bad experience last time. They forgot both proteins that cost probably three dollars extra on each bowl and an entire dressing on one bowl. I have zero confidence in them at this point. While food is really good, I love the atmosphere, and staff are nice - there is clearly a pattern going on with lack of attention to detail. Which is not OK when you're paying extra for premium ingredients. I completely understand mistakes happen. I wasn't even going to write this review until the second experience happened, which makes me question how this could happen so frequently. Sweetgreen seems to be much more reliable. My husband and I LOVE the curry bowl. We always add chicken and they give you a good portion. This is like a healthier/more natural Qdoba bowl experience. My only complaints are that the grains are hard/not cooked thru some of the times and I wish they had the sourdough bread every time. We typically take this home to eat. read more

My first time at Forage, and I absolutely loved it! I'm not in Madison too often, but was traveling for work and wanted a quick, but healthier/tastier lunch, and I'm so glad I stopped in. I wish there were more locations in the Milwaukee area, specifically Wauwatosa. I ordered the Thai bowl with chicken and for the price, I feel like it was still a good amount of food. Parking out front was very simple and there's a coffee shop right next door in case you also need a caffeine fix. It was quick to order, even during the lunch rush. It was our first time ordering here and we used the web site to order takeout. My wife's ordered a power bowl with smoked salmon. I ordered a southwest wrap and a small soup. The soup was just ok compared to the other main dishes. My wife loved her dish and I could not finish my wrap which was nicely spicy and filling. The one complaint was that they did not make the food until I got there which was 20 minutes after I ordered it as suggested in the website. read more

Forage Kitchen has some really nice combinations of vegetarian friendly foods! It was so nice to be have a good selection of plant based items, plus the ability for non vegetarians to add some chicken to their bowl. We both had the power bowl, one with tofu and one with chicken. The whole flavor combination was terrific the green goddess dressing- avocado based- was just so tasty. I always get the Avacado Crunch! A perfect mix of Black Rice, Romaine, pickled red onions, spicy Guacamole, spicy Tuna and some Poblano peppers! WOW! I waited a while to finally try this place because it seemed "too" healthy to be tasty. Understand that I'm a Forage fan. I LOVE the grain and Fiesta bowls. I would give them 5 stars for service & restaurant cleanliness and food taste.... until trying their mole bowl. Whoever decided this was mole must have confused it 'marinara.' My first cue should have been when I asked if there were nuts in it, and they said 'no.' I got a grain mixture with a cup of mildly-spicy chunky spaghetti sauce on the side of the dish. Inedible meal, although I think it would have been great on noodles. Nothing even close to any variation on mole, which is supposed to be a charred, cooked and then pureed blend of spices, nuts/seeds, and chili peppers. This place is turning fast food and grab n go concepts on its head! Affordable, fast food can be healthy and local and delicious. Just get anything from the menu and you'll see. Even the sweets are healthier such as the carrot and walnut bar they make....dope! The shikta greens and grain bowl is legit! I added my own wild salmon to the bowl later on and it was pure awesome! The mahummura is delicious! Never had it but it's good! A Turkish spread of walnut paste and roasted red pepper makes this a delicious dish option. Hardest part is picking which one you want as they all sound great. All between and 8 and 10 bucks and you can add on a protein as you wish as well. Finally my faith in humanity (& a great dining experience) has been restored!! Welcoming faces, knowledgeable staff who are compassionate about the food that they serve, and the establishment they work for. If I were to nominate someone for a server of the year award for 2019 it would have to be Megan from Forage Kitchen in Monona Wisconsin. Megan went above and beyond not only making this newbie feel welcome, but took the time to educate and introduce us to the many options available, as well as allowing me to sample the several gormet dressings and sauces that are made right on-site. Megan, as the other staff were extremely friendly and genuinely seemed to take pride in their work and enjoy the interaction they had with each other as well as the customer's. It was a truly one of the best dining experiences that I have had... And that was BEFORE I actually sat down to eat this delicious bowl of goodness. I am delighted to be able to confidently give Forage Kitchen five stars on All levels. We had attempted to sit outdoor at a restaurant nearby and they explained how the 22 open seats were in fact a mirage. Disappointed, hungry and legs covered we ventured on. We found the place to forage and they were afraid of our faces so scurried us to sit and order from the table where life has safety.
