First time coming here, my wife suggested this place to me since we wanted to place to eat at that was local to Madison. I was not expecting the Mad Rabbit Cafe to be small but it's not that bad because this place was busy and all the seats were filled so we had no issue taking our meal out to eat. I got this incredible wrap and I can only eat it's halfway through because it was so filling. You really get your money's worth out of this place too. Staff here was very friendly, the theme of this place inside with all this rabbit art and Aesthetics make this place really stand out. I stopped in on opening night and clearly folks are excited about a new vegan restaurant in town because there was a steady stream of tables the whole time. Certain elements might change as they move through their first few days, but right now it's seat yourself and order at the counter. Mad Rabbit took over a small building that used to be La Kitchenette. It's an intimate space with only about 10 or so tables. The decor is very cool--some psychedelic/down-the-rabbit-hole vibes with alternative music to match. I ordered the Bunny-Less Balls as an appetizer and the No Harm, No Fowl as an entree. The Bunny-Less balls are a take on arancini that are quite delicious. The breading was perfectly crispy and salty and the lemon-herb sauce was a wonderful compliment. The No Harm, No Fowl was a fat chipotle "chicken" sandwich. The local Stalzy's bun and thick cut chicken have quite the height to them, you may find yourself squishing it down to get a solid bite. But the chicken was crispy, the pickled red onion was tangy, and the chipotle sauce had a good kick to it. I was beyond excited to check this place out. Anytime, I hear that there is a vegan restaurant and that it's great, I make it my mission to try. This did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and the rabbit decor is so awesome! They have an awesome brunch menu with vegan crepes, breakfast burritos, and donuts. I went with the mad rabbit burgers and the loaded fries. The fries were so flavorful and tasty! The burger height was pretty big, but tasty. One of the donut flavors was peach cobbler, oh so good! We just had a wonderful lunch at Mad Rabbit on Williamson St. The decor is fun and cozy, the person that waited on us was very pleasant and thoughtful, and we all enjoyed our meals very much. We ordered a southwest tofu wrap, a mad rabbit burger with fries, and a smokehouse burger. We finished everything, but there were so many fries, my friend took some home. The service is ok, very hit or miss whenever I go. But honestly this place is just way too expensive for really mediocre food. For example, the first time I went I ordered the chorizo flatbread which was alright but nothing to go out of my way for, but another time I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was one of the most greasy, disgusting things I've ever consumed. The coffee also sucks. I've given this place enough chances because I really want to support local vegan businesses, and unfortunately decided that it's just not worth it. A huge group of us filled the whole restaurant haha and the two people who were working there were so kind and served everyone relatively quickly considering how many of us there were. Sadly this place will likely not make it through the year. If you open a vegan restaurant it has to be absolutely banger. The concept presents as fast/casual but is slow/casual and just not great. If it's meant to be a sit-down spot the food has to be way better. If it's fast/casual it's gotta be faster and better. Applaud the idea but the execution isn't there. The multitude of peculiar rabbits is also cringe. The time it took to amass the bunny collection could have been spent developing the menu. Nice people. New joint ( 7 weeks old) , but friendly owner, nice beer selection, and a nice variety of menu choices. A lot of options have a fake meat, but they also have tofu. My buffalo chik'n looked OK (nice presentation but it's a patty), but it tasted good and I like the texture. Considering Madison's liberal reputation, Willy street (AKA tie-dye, bandanna scarf central) is pretty lean on vegan food which isn't vegan because it's from a country where tofu is a typical ingredient. So this is a VERY welcome addition. Reasonable prices. And EVERYING on the menus is plant-based. Order - away and enjoy. read more

I'm a vegetarian, though not a vegan, and often have difficulty finding more than a couple of menu items that I can eat when I go to restaurants here in Wisconsin, so was very pleasantly surprised that I could eat everything on the menu. The food was unique and delicious, and our waitress was both congenial and helpful. I very much enjoyed the experience at this restaurant. Kudos to the staff. I was super sad to see La kitchenette go, but I figured I needed to try the new place. I thought the menu was great although I have to say I am nervous that the menu was so big and the kitchen is so small. Still, the food was great, interesting, and delivered very quickly.
