To be honest I walked in because of the aesthetic--the building is gorgeous and the neon signs are adorable, but I stayed for the coffee. The location is totally instagrammable and the food and coffee were delicious, but I wish that there was more space for people to sit. I understand that it is in a hotel, but even while on vacation I value coffee spots because they are great places to sit down and get out of my room and be productive. Don't order coconut milk here with your coffee. Not sure what brand they use but my latte was way watered down, lacked any flavor. I asked them to change it to oat milk and it tasted better. The place is starting to grow on me, somewhat. The loyalty punchcard is a nice Historic touch. The coffee seems less bitter now. Either I'm more used to it, or they opened a better bag. I usually end up with the ROC Center blend, which is a blend of Indonesian, Brazilian, and Colombian. Light classical muzak would be nice, but at least they dialed back the harsh muzak that I sometimes used to hear. The place is spotless and seems clean. Which is important to me. Also, I like that they don't bother with lids on the take-away. At Starbucks and some other places, I would always have to remember to say "no lid" and sometimes I would forget and sometimes the barista would forget. I mean, sometimes a lid (and stopper) are okay; but, usually it's not needed for me. So I appreciate that one minor detail. The staff actually seem to like their jobs. I got a dirty chai and it was good, the cups are big, but I didn't expect to pay $10 for one drink lol. I came here to work on my computer, and the atmosphere is nice. Plenty of tables to work from during a weekday and there were little nooks to hide out in to work and separate yourself. The food looks good too. On-point hipster coffee experience, with delicious food and drinks. Personally, I am skeptical of any business that makes a big deal out of coming from New York City. But apparently that pentagon in the logo portends suitability for the DC area, because For Five makes good on its promises in Alexandria. The shop provides a solid 90 percent of the fancy coffee experience, including trendy decor, single-origin beans, and traditionally sized espresso beverages. Fringe benefits include USB outlets on the walls, a drink drain by the trash, and a humane wearing layout. The cold brew was average, which is what I expected. The flat white was surprisingly good, with foam that was actually wet! It was also the correct size--about ten ounces. Finding a place that does this right had been a challenge. The chocolate chip banana bread was decadent and the spinach pie was actually flavorful! The prices are a little higher, and I couldn't tell if that supported any improved labor standards for the workers. They also don't provide full demitasse, so be careful of hot beverages. Disabled customers will be pleased to know that there are plastic straws and a wheelchair lift, plus multiple accessible entrances be way of the attached buidking. And now for the elephant in the Alexandria coffee scene--yes, this place is a better choice that Misha's. It is far less crowded, the coffee is better, the food is better, and it is closer to the metro station. Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for coffee in Old Town. read more

Good food, the quality of the ingredients is decent but I have to knock off two whole stars because I am not for fraudulent pricing. I guess you have to keep up the appearance for people who eat in- house because bigger portions look better on a plate but the to-go price for the overnight oats should be CHEAPER than the price for the overnight oats when you eat in the restaurant. It honestly looks almost half the size smaller. They are obviously two different sizes. I'm happy to pay more money for food and ambience but this is just lazy and quite frankly a rip off. It does not take that much extra work to put in a separate SKU in your system to price smaller portions differently than bigger portions. Toastique, which is comparable in the type of food has fair pricing if this is something you require from a restaurant. I got curious and went into the new Alexandria shop for a cup. All of the coffees are blends. I got the "market price" pourover, which was a very respectable cup of coffee, but pretty spendy at 5 bucks and tax for about 10 oz of coffee. For that kind of money, I'd like a bean that stands on its own without the need to be blended. Still, it's probably the best cup of coffee in Old Town. You would have to go to Swing's to do better. The standard drip is half the price. The food looks good and reasonably priced for the area. I'm looking forward to trying it out. read more

My only complaint was that the bathroom is not open for use. I know this is 2020 COVID, however, this is a coffee shop which also serves food, and well, people have other needs just like they have hunger needs. Wasn't a fan of the food. I'm mainly plant based and tried to order some kind of egg sandwich. It came out entirely covered with cooked onions. I noticed onions listed on the menu but there was no indication I was eating onion with a side of sandwich. The chocolate croissant I ordered the next day was good but nothing to write home about for $6. I usually buy this same croissant in upscale/trendy San Diego / Encinitas coffee shops for $2. I'll happily pay $6 for coffee but the food was overpriced for the quality. read more

My girlfriend was invited to check out this cafe, so I tagged a long because I'm an awesome boyfriend (lol). As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a sweet staff (they work well together like family). It is very aesthetically pleasing with a display of pastries and a coffee bar. The colors and architecture is very nice! I am not a coffee drinker so I cannot review that portion, however I do like my food and snacks! I ordered their sausage and lentil soup and also the Spanish omelette. The soup was so good!!! It was hot and the sausage just breaks apart in your mouth. I would highly recommend the soup especially on cold days. The staff was very kind! The place gets busy though, so do expect a little wait for food and drinks depending on how busy it is. They really do put a lot of effort into making your drinks. They make it right at the bar so you can see them working it! Again I'm not a coffee drinker but based on my girlfriend and the other reviews, I trust that the quality is exceptional, especially if they put in the same level of passion as they do in their food. The pricing can be a little on the higher side (my omelette, soup, and orange soda totaled near 26 dollars) but the portion size is big! If you're around the area stop by!
