Amanda was absolutely fantastic when I went in looking for new sneakers. You see, I suffered with heel pain, self-treated, and just ignored it for 3 months while still putting in a good amount of miles in before actually seeing my doctor. X-rays ruled out a stress fracture and I was sent to podiatrist. Diagnosis? Severe plantar fasciitis. Cortisone shot to calm everything down quickly and lots of home care instructions....one of them being a visit to Footwear etc. Amanda listened to my sob story without batting an eye and went straight to work. She used a super fancy machine, analyzed my feet, and started pulling out box after box. No pressure- very low key. The store may look small but they must have a secret basement or something to hold all their inventory! Lo and behold, we found a winner. Footwear, etc is located in a small strip mall with limited parking in the front. There's more parking in the back. Prices are on point with other specialized shoe stores. My wife has oddly shaped feet. We had trouble finding walking shoes for her that didn't hurt her feet. We tried many shoe stores, and time after time we ended up donating her new shoes to a charity because they didn't work out. I can't remember where we learned about Footwear etc, but by the time we found it and went there, and parked in the back as they recommended, I must confess that I was not hopeful. But when we walked into the store we were met by a very capable sales person who sat us down (well, I stayed back because I didn't come in to buy shoes) and talked to my wife until she figured out what would work. We took 2 pairs of walking shoes home with us and ordered a third. They were all the same model, but different patterns and appearances. The brand was one that I had never heard of, "Topo", but it fit my wife's foot perfectly and made her feel much safer when walking outdoors. While I was waiting, I noticed a pair of shoes that were a brand I had read about (Kizik). My son is in the fancy sneaker business--he sells high end Nike SB Dunk shoes and likes it when I wear those--but I decided to get a pair of Kizik shoes anyhow. They work well for me, but I only wear them on days when I know I won't see my son or his children, who would rat on me for not wearing Nikes. read more

If they do not have your size they will get it for you to try before buying or will ship it to you free, an you are given time to return the shoes within 30 days if you do not like them or they prove uncomfortable. I shopped at the Encinitas store yesterday for 2.25 hours. Our sales associate, Sky, deserves an award for his patience, candor, and exemplary customer service. I tried on at least 20+ pair of shoes and he did not waiver from his friendliness and good nature. In my defense, Sky averaged one sale every 30 minutes as we purchased four pair of shoes with his expert advice and suggestions. Amazing experience. Located in the Ralphs strip mall right off Encinitas boulevard. Parking was not too bad, there were a few spots but it is a busy shopping center. It is tucked in the back corner between Ralphs and Trader Joes. I called yesterday to ask some questions and a very helpful associate answered all of my questions on some brands and equipment that my doctor referred. The doctor from Scripps also gave me a 10% off coupon. I went in today (Saturday) and Kendra was there to help. She was very friendly as soon as I walked in the door. She checked to see if I needed any help and then proceeded to answer all of my questions and provided me with several options. Kendra was extremely knowledgeable, and was not afraid to give me her honest opinion on the brands that she uses and likes. I really appreciated her advice since the shoes I was looking at are 2-4x more than I would normally spend I wanted some good advice. Doctor recommended Brooks, Hoka, and New Balance for shoes and Cadence for insoles. I normally would get New Balance but I liked the look and quality of the Brooks and Hoka a little better so I only tried those on. The Brooks were nice but a little snug and the laces were too short and as soon as I tried the Hoka Bondi 7 on I knew those were the ones for me. I also found out they really only last for 500 miles and probably should be replaced every 3-6 months. I didn't know all that and not wearing proper foot wear probably led to my foot problems. I also got some nice tempurpedic slippers and Cadence insoles for my new shoes and some for my dress shoes. Kendra signed me up for their rewards program, mentioned the sale on Cadence insoles (buy 1 and get 1 at 50% off), the special on the slippers (double points on the reward program), and was also able to apply 10% on the whole order. They didn't have everything in stock but free shipping to my house. The whole experience was amazing and AWESOME. I am hopeful and so is the doctor that these shoes may help avoid foot surgery so I am glad to spend more if they are helpful, which I think they will be. read more

Rewards I would have given them a five and then I debated about a 3 or 4 solely based on my visit a few days ago. I'd seen some sneakers online that I love were now on sale so I went into the store to purchase them thinking I could use my reward points from a big shopping trip last November. I knew I had to wait a month before I could use my rewards, but I was completely surprised when I was told that my points had expired! They expire after 4 months which seems completely ridiculous. That part isn't mentioned in the Rewards Terms and Conditions on their website. There was also no email or text saying that my rewards were getting ready to expire. I was also surprised when the sales person said she could get the sneaker at the sale price for me, but not in the color I wanted even though that color was shown online as being available. I'll go back, but the rewards program is pretty useless. read more

Amazing service. If you are tired of buying shoes that only kind of fit, and you want quality shoes that look great and provide the kind of support your feet need, then look no further. I have bought a number of shoes online which I thought should fit based on my sizing. And I got tired of wondering if I need an 8.5 or 9 and if it would work out. So I went to the Encinitas location looking for some cute ankle boots. While they carry a number of brands I had never heard of that are great for my feet, like Taos, NAOT, Munro, Ziera, Reiker, they didn't have ankle boots on hand in my size but I could order and have them shipped to my home at no charge. So I went ahead and did that. I received them in 3 days and they generally fit but were tight in a few places. I brought them into the store and Eric said it was no problem-- he stretched them in the tight areas and added heel cushions for a better grip. He also showed me how to switch out the insoles to shift the position of my foot within the shoe. So now I am eternally grateful that I have a pair of ankle boots I love and they love me. You just don't find this kind of service elsewhere. It is so worth coming here and buying shoes locally. You'll find fashionable shoes that don't look like orthopedic shoes. A few weeks ago I went to Footwear etc. I needed a sandal that was comfortable and supportive enough to walk on uneven, slick cobblestone. I have always worn heels and the thought of a sensible shoe frightened me. Tara spent so much time with me. We found some that not only were the most comfortable shoeI have ever worn, but also really cute. One day on my vacation, the other couple we were with decided to climb the 999 stairs to the Palamidi Castle. I was wearing my sanders. The stairs were cobblestone and dirt. Sandra answered happily and went above and beyond to have shoes waiting in the right size when I arrived. That level of service is a rarity these days and is so greatly appreciated. My boyfriend gave a me a giftcard for my birthday to buy Birkenstocks here. The young gentleman working the register was super friendly. Although they dont have a huge selection of Birkenstocks, I was told they could any style for you and have them shipped to your house. I didn't feel pressured while I was there. I was given space.
