I feel obligated to write a review when something is exceptional. Foothills Tow helped me when I was in a really bad situation, purely out of kindness. I found myself with my husband out of town and a babysitter willing to watch my kids until bed time, and my plans cancelled. I decided to drive from Lafayette, CA to Tahoe and go snowboarding for the afternoon on a bluebird Wednesday after a decent snow. I was in heaven. I rode Sugar Bowl for several hours, then it was getting too warm and I decided to call it at 2 pm. I was parked in the Village parking lot, which requires a very slow gondola ride up to the parking lot. In summary, I discovered that I had lost my key FOB for my car. After a quick meltdown, several trips to the lost and found, and some failed attempts to get several tow companies to help me out, I get a call from a very nice (and calming) man from Foothills Tow. He told me not to worry, he was going to get me home to my kids tonight. Did I mention that I was stranded 3 hours from home? He told me that he couldn't arrive for 45 minutes and to make sure I was somewhere safe and warm. Anyway, he arrived, had the heater blasting to warm me up and I told him that some guys had come by and said they thought my fob was up at the lost and found. This kind gentleman drove me up there, waited for me to get my key fob, drove me back to my car, and waited to make sure I got in safely. He didn't charge me a dime. What a generous person. If I ever need a tow up in the foothills/Tahoe area, I will absolutely be calling Foothills Tow. read more

I blew a tire on my 5th wheel coming home from Reno to Sacramento. I had to leave my trailer on the side of the highway and brought my family home so they would not be on the side of the road. I called my road side assistance and the the first company said they couldn't change a trailer tire. My roadside assistance got a hold of Foothills Tow. They had a pretty good response time. I wasn't with my car but the driver was cool enough to call me and let me know he was coming. He got there and changed the tire and put my blown tire on the spare holder. He called me to let me know he was done and that there were some other safety things I needed to take care of. I'm really happy with the response and service. I got back to the trailer about 10 minutes after the driver left and everything was good to go. read more

Four wheel drive quit on a trip to Tahoe (landed up being just a fuse in our 2019 Dodge Ram) we couldn't make it up a hill, 2 block from our rental- we had chains on and truck was too heavy! Horrible company !!! For a 2-3 hr trip they charged me 4.75 hrs to a rate of $290/ hr!!!! $1376 total!!! The guy who was driving the truck received a call ( he had his phone on speaker)from the dispatch I believe, they even called us stupids. They were communicating each other with rates I think ( but this time no speaker by dispatch request) and asking him to go as slow as possible. They were friendly, efficient, safety-conscious, and helpful. Foothills tow towed my car while My wife was in LTDsports shopping . When she went to pick up our car Foothills tow would not release the car because he said the registration was in someone else's name because the car was recently purchased , which is why we had a dealers plate in the car and in my wife's purse. We own a dealership in Stockton and needed a part in Southlake Tahoe which is why we were driving the car in the first place. Having a two month old newborn on my wife' lap And my granddaughter driving A storm had just came in snow and ice covers all streets and foothill toll refuses to give them the car seat out of the car when he's literally standing right next to it unless they pay him $150. They didn't have any money on them and said that they would give him the money when they pick up the car if they can get the car seat he told them too bad he doesn't care about the weather if you don't give him the 150 you're not getting the car seat out of the car made them drive off in the snow with the baby on their lap with no car seat. The next day when they came to pick up the car he added the extra $150 that he wanted that night before in order to get the car seat because he said he had to go down there anyway so he's charging for it . Pay or don't get your car it's up to you. This guy is the biggest scammer I've ever seen making 2 Girls Drive illegally ,overcharging c he should be arrested. While driving on I-80 under chain controls, we threw both chains, which meant we didn't just need to be pulled out of a snowbank, but towed back over 25 miles where chain controls were not in effect. Busy, stormy, holiday travel day, so lots of work for towing companies. Called CHP and waited for hours while multiple tow trucks passed us by. Eventually we were connected with Foothills Tow. Our driver, Tony, proved to be a godsend, as he maneuvered us past miles of backed-up semi's and got us on our way. This company does not comply with legal tow truck requirements. They refused to release my vehicle to me because I was not the registered owner, despite the fact that I had a notarized letter from the registered owner to prove I was entitled to possession of the car. I had to fly my father across the country in order to reclaim it and they cost me over $900 to get back my car not including the plane ticket. They also refused to provide any of the documents required by law to me when I returned with my father. This business is a scam to prey on tourists in Tahoe. read more

On the second day of my vacation I parked my rental car at the Raley's grocery store in South Lake Tahoe. When I came out with my groceries these bozos had towed my car. After arguing with them on the phone I had to walk back to my hotel carrying my groceries in hand. Next, I was told that I need a release form from the rental company before they would release the car back to me. Yeah so I got my car towed by them in South lake Tahoe (I'm a local) they were EXTREMELY rude and did not try to work anything out with me. They charged me $90 for "storage" of 10 whole minutes, and $600 for everything. I was inside a hotel trying to get a room for my friends sorted out for the night and within only a few minutes my car was being towed. I know that is the hotels fault, but they were very unprofessional about everything. These people tried to charge me $1090 for towing me 4 miles and storing for 10 hours. They Basically told me this wouldn't have happened if I didnt get a DUI . They are clearly preying on people who got themselves in a shitty situation. Luckily I went to gold run Cali highway patrol and I got some help with figuring out the exact time frames and was able to get 1.5 hours worth of labor back witch quite A bit at $290 per hour. They are a bunch of crooks and I wish I could give them less than one star. They also didn't have their facts straight claiming That I needed to get a release form from CHP for my vehicle to be released which was not true. The operator backed his tow truck into the shoulder marker. Screwed around for 30 mins trying to figure out how to hook up. This is a company that should not be in operation. Tow a car that is illegally parked, 5 miles to their yard where it sits for less 2 hours and the bill is $700. Now I find that a bit excessive and saying the tow took 90 minutes and a $145 charge to open the gate after hours when the employee is staying in a 5th wheel parked in the yard, which is against city code and had to walk 30 feet to unlock the gate which she was doing anyway for her pizza delivered for her dinner. My vehicle was towed in late October. It was towed to this tow yard. When the vehicle was released to me, and I got home and had the chance to go through it, I found over $300 dollars worth of my property stolen out of it. I called them as soon as I realized that my belongings were stolen and the actual owner of the company answered the phone and became super defensive when I began to inquire about what might have happened. I cannot give enough praise to the gentleman (and his lovely wife) at Foothills Tow who helped me out of a situation where my s belt was blown and I was stranded. The incident occurred late at night AND on a national holiday on which all other places are typically closed. They arrived right on time, quickly and safely loaded my car, drove me and my boyfriend to a mechanic 35 minutes away, helped us make sure the mechanic was a good one, helped us drop off the car safely / made sure we retrieved all valuables from the car, and without thinking twice, drove us to our hotel. Furthermore, it's really worth a mention that they were super personable and friendly. We chatted with them throughout the drive as if they were a long lost aunt and uncle. Wow is all I can say. I don't hope to have a breakdown again but if I do I will absolutely be calling Foothills again. read more

We had a mechanical breakdown going over the Highway 80 summit during a storm. AAA said "no estimate" on when they could get a flatbed dispatched to tow us, but luckily for us they found Marty at Foothills Tow. Marty rearranged his plans to get to us quickly, and he safely towed us to the dealer in Roseville in very bad weather and heavy holiday traffic. He was extraordinarily polite, kind, interesting, and service oriented, and he graciously accommodated two humans and our golden retriever in his truck for hours. Yesterday was bad on Hwy 80 and despite having 4 wheel drive + snow tires on all 4 tires + an experienced and capable mountain driver, my daughter and I found ourselves in peril. Fortunately for us, Marty of Foothills Tow happened by and helped us. I cannot thank him enough. He knew exactly what needed to be done, did it, and offered to follow us as we limped to the end of chain control. There are a few things to sort out with the car and chains, but thanks to Marty and Foothills Tow, an accident isn't one of them. I never write reviews but I feel as though it is necessary for this establishment. My car was towed while I was in work on a Saturday night. Which even if I was over the allotted time, I shop at that location for my work usually several times a day (I believe I was in there 3 times that night) . I called the number listed on the signs posted everywhere thinking it would take me to an answering machine with hours and a location. Instead a very angry man answered the phone yelling at me that I woke him up. He was not understanding what so ever. And since it was 12:15 (15 minutes after midnight) he gave me the option to pick my car up 45 minutes from then or if I left in until 7 am the next morning he would charge me for 2 days. He was EXTREMELY rude, yelled at me and completely over charged me for at most but probably not even 4 hours in his lot. He refused to give me a time or tell me who called to have my car towed. Instead told me he didn't care because I do not work in the establishment I was towed from. He gave me one price over the phone and then 20 minutes later when I arrived it was 50 dollars more. I paid almost 700 dollars to a complete jerk for very little time in his lot. Please be aware if you have to deal with this man, it will not be a pleasant experience. Fees and time charging that make no sense. I honestly do not know how people like him live with themselves. I also know other locals who have dealt with him and have had the same experience.
