Guys, Fool's Errand is where it's at, we loved posting up here for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. A totally unexpected find, we had planned our trip out and I had a lengthy (that's an understatement) list of bars and restaurants I had wanted to try and this place was not one of them. I did a quick search while walking in this neighborhood and it popped up on my feed so we decided to check it out and we are so glad that we did. The place is small and cozy, they had an area to sit outside and enjoy some drinks at a high top bar type thing, great people watching spot. Their bar was pretty small and then they had some high top seating throughout the place. I wasn't aware they had food until after we left, small plates, definitely a different food scene, cheese, charcuterie and "tins" of meat, but we didn't come for food, just for booze. They advertise themselves as a beer and wine bar and that's what they were in our minds. They had a great beer and wine selection and the owner happened to be in and was just wonderful. Super friendly, just a very cool dude who offered so many recommendations for us to try while we were exploring San Francisco for the first time, he even took it upon himself to grab a napkin and jot his suggestions down. There was another bartender there who was also a great time. They were the kind of people that treated you like regulars, even though it was your first time in their place. I loved that. We did some sparkling Rose and some beers, chatted about life, people watched and then left fully excited to tell people about this new spot and also eager to come back. This is a don't miss spot for sure. read more

This used to be a chill relaxed coffee shop, now it's a chill relaxed wine bar. I like that it's still the same, in attitude and decor. I love those repurposed wood tables. I love the little parklet outside, and there is also a small bar and more tables in the back. Nice wine and beer selection, decently priced. And some snack type items. Had a nice relaxed afternoon drinking rose outside. Nice neighborhood spot!!! read more

I love these guys and I love this place!! -- What can I say, I'm a little bit of a lush: I enjoy good wine, friendly people, and fun conversation. John and his crew deliver. This decor is chill and laid back, but also sleek, modern, and minimalist; imagine that your older bro or favorite cousin turned their living room into a dope neighborhood watering hole, and you get Fool's Errand. The noshes are good, the beer and wine selections plentiful, but more than anything the staff makes the place! I'm happy to call John and his team my new bff's!! I happen to live much too close to this spot so if you see me here, say hello! read more

Our neighborhood bar of choice. You gotta go here any day of the week, it's amazing vibes. All of their drinks are so good and the staff is incredibly nice. I love coming here. I love it read more

This is a cool spot to go for a drink before dinner! It's set down a mini flight of stairs, so you get this feeling that you're in an old wine cellar. The bar staff is super friendly and they have a fantastic wine and beer selection! read more

stopped by to try some wine. the server was knowledgeable and awesome. I tried the PinoT which was good but then pivoted to beer. but the 5 stars is because I ordered the beet cauliflower salad. OMG. that salad is legit. you've got to live when the shed is firing a stainless steel bowl with a "crack" torch. best salad I've had in at least 2 years--AND I'm NOT a vegetarian! I love meet. but you can't beat the beet salad (no pun intended). try it you will not be disappointed. read more

A favorite beer & wine bar! Great selection, comfortable space, and fantastic staff everyone is so friendly and welcoming - highly recommend!! read more

Cute wine bar that's perfect to go to before or after dinner. They also give you popcorn to snack on. Who wouldn't appreciate that? I'll definitely return next time I'm in the area. read more

This wine bar is ok. I came here on a Friday night and there were lots of empty spots. The wines are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is sort of romantic. The lighting is so dark, even for a wine bar, that I feel like it was making me sleepy haha! read more

Fool's Errand - Red wine recommended by the bartender!! - Wine Bars Near Me - San Francisco, California

Great spot for a post-work HH. Cozy and trendy space, with long tables for groups. Lots of people working on their laptops and enjoying drinks. If you want to taste anything, they let you before you decide. If you like sours - this is your spot. They had an amazing selection to choose from. Kinda a slim food menu, so go for apps & drinks and not for dinner. read more

Went with my girlfriend for an impromptu date night. It took them ~15 minutes to take two orders ahead of ours. While we ordered the server stopped us to yell at his friend loading a plant into a car like he was a street vendor selling hotdogs in lower manhattan. We got a glass of white wine, a beer and a cheese plate: $70. The ingredients to make the cheese plate probably cost $5. The cheese plate includes a few slices of two kinds of salami, two small triangles of cheese, a quarter of a small baguette, some pickled veggies, and four olives. The lowest automatic option for tip on the card reader is 20%. I came away feeling like the place is setup to be a ripoff. If you want to think of yourself as classy, aren't hungry, and/or don't mind parting with your money, this is the perfect place for you. read more

Formerly a cafe, new life as a wine bar- Fool's Errand is a welcome addition to the Divis corridor. Also it has the only public parklet you can drink on and simply put, that's already enough for me. We've ordered the cheese boards before, but I normally don't like to waste my time with food here and prefer to just split a bottle of wine. Always go bottle of wine unless you're only having a glass each (just more economical and hey, enjoy yourself). I've went bubbly, white, and red- all have been superb. I normally describe what I'm looking for and the bartenders here haven't been wrong yet. Good place for both a date or catching up with friends. Gets a /little/ crowded on the weekend, but makes a really great weekday spot. read more

The ambiance is intimate--dim and woody--with lots of barstool seating, shared high tables in the front, and two four-tops in the back. If I were in the dating scene, it's not where I'd bring a first date, since we'd likely be rubbing elbows with several other patrons. But drinks with friends, coworkers, or a SO would be fun. Happy Hour is the way to go if you're available earlier. Otherwise, drinks start at $7. The cheapest red as of 01/16/2019 was $10, so yeah, typical, inflated SF prices. Customer service is kind and accommodating. read more

I read the hype on Eater, this place sounded cliche - local beers, cozy feeling blah blah blah. 4 months pass and out of sight, out of mind. I came here because they had the 38 Mile Alvarado Street / Sante Adarius collaboration bit stayed for more. This is a great date spot - amazing beer in a venue your female friend will enjoy. Limited but focused menu (cheese, charcuterie and fish in tins), music level that everyone can appreciate and dimly lit interior. The owner is doing something good - Cellamaker's tap takeovers are rare and coveted but this place managed to do it. Alvarado cans with Cellarmaker taps? Yes please! read more

The ambience is very nice. I had the guava cider and it was really good. I will be returning.

Awesome wine bar, quality vibes, expert somms, would certainly come back again. Also be sure to check out the wine shop in the back, tons of great picks to be found! read more

I'm not really a huge wine drinker, and I don't really frequent wine bars much. However, I ended up at Fool's Errand with a friend on a Sunday after becoming bored in Alamo Square Park and I had a super chill time here. On a Sunday afternoon around 3pm, there was a steady amount of people around but there was still plenty of space for seating. Also, no one really sat in the back of the bar because it gets superrrr dark back there - wish they could invest in some nicer lighting for the back. However, the rest of the bar gets nice natural light and there's outside seating. I can't speak for how the bar is in the evening, but hoping the lights get turned up a bit brighter. I tried two rosés here and really enjoyed both. A glass of wine is around $11-$15 here on average. The bartender was super friendly and also knowledgeable about the wines, so definitely ask for recommendations if you're not sure what you want. Anyway, this is a really cool wine bar. I'd come back! read more

Not much on food food but enough high quality beer and wine drinks to find calories in liquid form. Props for having outdoor parklet space! Well played. read more

An excellent little wine and beer bar along DivisCo. Friendly bartender, lots of locals, great snack trays. I tried the cheese plate which came with bread and pickled veggies. Perfect with the well recommended glass ofChenin Blanc. read more

Wine selection wasn't great. Service wasn't great. Bartender was rude. Won't be stopping by here ever again. Better places to drop in in that neighborhood read more

The beer and wine list here are second to none! Where in the city can you find CellarMaker on tap? To boot the prices are some of the best in the city for the quality you are getting. What really blew me away is the quality, depth, and incredibly low mark-up on the wine list. Some people might write this place off as just an amazing beer bar, but the wine list is easily one of the best in the city and the mark-up is extremely low. There is not a better place to drink amazing wine in the city. Also John the owner is just an incredible guy who wants to help people find, enjoy, and learn about better wines and beer. read more

Super friendly staff. Perfect beer and wine bar setup with light snacks available: cheese & meat boards and salads. Your choice of outside seating, indoor more lively seating by the bar, or a quieter more intimate ambiance in the back. Free popcorn during happy hour 2-6 Monday through Friday. We got 4 glasses of wine and cheese board (2 cheeses) for $42. read more

Cozy, beautifully done cocktail bar. Open windows overlook Divis, cool murals, savvy bartenders, great cocktails and beer selection. A favoritr bar of mine. read more

I had been to Mojos bicycle bar which had previously been at this location but learned it had recently become Fool's Errand. I love the space and ambiance. It is all open seating. There are a few large high top tables that fit 4-6 people, some additional seating in the back, small bar top right in the window, and then 4-5 small tables outside as well. Came on a Thursday around 6:30 pm to meet some friends and we were able to grab a spot right away. Service was good and friendly. You have to order at bar and then someone even came to check on us to see if we wanted to order food. We went with a cheese plate. It was good cheese, but pretty small portions and a little pricey. The beer was good as well. Good location on Divisadero st and nice ambiance. l will be back if I am in the area. read more

Do you like excellent wine from unusual places that you aren't sure you can pronounce the names of? A fantastic, rotating, local beer list? How about the only parklet in SF where alcohol is allowed? Then Fool's Errand is the bar for you! A welcome addition to the bustling Divis scene and a worthy successor to the former Mojo Bicycle Cafe. I can't recommend this spot enough. read more

A favorite beer and wine bar! Great selection, confortable spce, and fantastic staff everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

Impressive beer and wine list at this cute little spot! New favorite bar in the city, hands down. Owner is super friendly and recommended beers that were SO delicious. Need to go back to check out the wines! Love the outdoor seating. Also learned it's the only outdoor parklet in the city that can serve alcohol!! 11/10 service, seriously go here. read more

Stopped in for a beer and the place is laid back and comfortable. Would be a regular if I lived in near by.

We're right in the hood so visit frequently and love the selection of beers on tap and in bottle -- they always have something like Fieldwork, Cellarmaker, Alvarado, Humble Sea, Rare Barrel-- stuff you don't often see on tap at most bars. They're always mixing it up. Excellent wine selection and friendly bartenders. Snacks are good too. It's a little pricey but that's SF now. read more

It's a nice place, but I've been twice at 9:45 and they're already closing. The curious thing is Google and yelp and THEIR OWN WEBSITE say they close at midnight. So if you go close to 10:00, be sure to research a second option. They close whenever the staff wants to go home. read more

This is the best honkey tonk beer and wine bar in San Francisco. They have great music, better beer, and the best wine prices hands down.

Andrew helped me pick a wonderful Chard. Cool wine cellar of sorts in the back. Bar has outside seating. We are happy!! And will be back. read more

Fool's Errand is a godsend. Nobody in Boston knows how to make a better Penicillin than Katrina. I never leave Yelp reviews but she took the time to help me with an off menu cocktail and even recommended more drinks I might like. A+. read more

Bartender was super knowledgable about the menu and drink selections. He gave my friend several tastes of the red wines before she selected a glass which was nice. Small but well designed space - it wasn't very crowded when we went but feel like there's a lot of table and seat space for a medium sized crowd. Mix of inside and outside seating which I appreciated. Only down side is that we ordered the burrata which I think was $11 or so. What came out was an absolutely tiny blob of firm mozzarella on tomatoes which was good but tiny and not creamy soft burrata like we were hoping. Think I'd go for a drink next time and skip the food, was pricey, Small, and not quite as advertised. read more

Generic wine list featuring 2016 and younger wines. Beer menu slightly more enticing. Happy hour rosé and Sauv Blanc sound interesting but are basic tasting. read more

I may not be a "foodie" or an expert wine taster or wine wafter; however, I am all about the vibe and the design of the space. In other words, I am all about spaces and faces. The space feels like a bunker or a cabin on a ship--somewhat dim and tight. Sunlight from the open front door illuminated the space, so I could somewhat see my friend's face. We sat in the very back, where the lighting made me feel like I was chilling in a cowboy saloon (That's the Texan in me or my dad's old Western movies talking). The rectangular tables were inviting and conducive to small groups or couples. The wine was fine. The bartenders let us try samples and made great recommendations. If you have a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon, then bring a friend. Just leave the boots and the spurs at home. read more
