It's giving Food4Less - Sun Valley With a huge spacious parking lot off Webb Avenue/Strathern Street a quick beat west of/off Lankershim Blvd, technically at the same intersection. Needed a few quick essentials and enjoy a late night grocery haul. It's pretty easy to navigate with a variety of produce, pantry, refrigerated and frozen goods. Some cool 2 for 1 deals, including on a lot of things I enjoy #BulkBargainBuys I can tell the store is pretty busy during the day, but being upon until midnight each day, after 10pm is very smooth. Good customer service, friendly staff. Security does seem a little underwhelmed, also I get still going after 9PM. I couldn't figure out where and if this location sells tofu at all, not in any of the usual spots you'd find at most grocery stores, but most areas are very stocked up. Clean isles and plenty of room to navigate around. Would pop in again at night, seems like the best - just be mindful on the area. read more

This isn't my neck of the woods, but not too far from home and I've passed the store for years and finally made a decision to go check out what they have. Now, most people might assume this is a lower level food chain, but if you give them a chance and walk in the store like I did, we will find it's just like any other grocery store in the area and it's quite considerable in size and you will find just about anything you're looking for on a grocery level and the prices are more than fair, the store is clean and well organized and they are definitely busy, but you'll get in and out without any issues. read more

Most of the items and shelves have been picked through. I really needed to use the restroom with the codes labeled right on top of the door handles. I stopped by to pick up a pie to bring to my friend's place. Because I just learned that she doesn't like anything chocolate and I just purchased a chocolate roll from a famous bake shop. Upon driving to the parking lot, I can tell that the store is busy. That's understandable since it is the holidays and people are doing some last minute shopping. I went to the bakery area, perused the items then decided on the Peach Pie. There is a limited selection since it is late in the afternoon already. Most of the registers are busy but the one I went to went fast. I made it in time for the dinner. The store is big and busy, plenty of sale signs posted, and good enough number of registers are open. I visited this store at about 7:30pm. They were a little busy. I think 5 registers were open. There was about 3 to 4 people waiting at each register. I went to register #5. I believe the cashiers name was Enrique. I worked in retail management for 20+ years. I've trained lots of employees. I've hired lots of employees. So I've pretty much seen the best and the worst. That was until this evening. Enrique was working the register looking like he was way to cool. The "kid" was not acknowledging his customers. That's not even the worst of it. He was actually drinking a can beverage while checking out. Not even between customers but in the middle of transactions. THEN this kid pulls out his cell phone and actually starts texting someone!!! This was just as he should have looked at me because I was his next customer and should have at least said hello. Nope that didn't happen. Then another employee comes up to him and they have a nice long chat. His focus is now on their conversation. Making me feel like I was an inconvenience. When finished I told him thank you and good bye twice. Nothing came out of his mouth. No customer service at all. Nothing!!! Oh I also forgot to mention that while I was waiting in line he actually said "fuck". I don't know why and it wasn't a whisper. There was 1 customer ahead of me and I heard. Now I must say I've never seen this kid before. I can tell he wasn't a new hire, and I visit the store often. Never had a bad experience until now. I was so angry when I left. My first time to try in Cali. Not bad, I got my chicken liver finally. People come for good deals and this is it. The meat and veggies have good prices. Like other super markets, items are organized and bright enough to see things clearly. The meat department is really good and I got some beef for roast later on. Veggies are good, and they also don't carry bean sprout for some reasons. Well, I guess it is not easy to sell? The fried pig skin is new to me and I also got some for snacks. But some of the bags have flies trapped inside. That is somewhat gross to me. I think it needs attention. Understaff issue is here as well. There are only 3 cashiers open and it is ok as they do check out promptly. Carts are far since it is empty outside. Quite a distance to get one. This is odd. Overall, I like this place. This place is your typical grocery store. Clean, well-lit, enough parking. However, what i find incredibly interesting is the talent acquisition and distribution, in this store. Whoever is in charge of that- way to go. You'll find the ruder, less social peeps in dept. with minimal customer interaction- (meat dept., bakery.) Then, you have the more polite, shy, just came to do my job people stocking, helping people who go up to them. Then, you have your shining stars in the front! The cashiers here are AWESOME!!! friendly, welcoming, accommodating. Especially Salvador (who, i swear always is doing a different job- he's the jack-of-all-trades!) and Norma. They are awesome up front and really patient and kind. They aren't easily frustrated. The only reason i docked a star...some of the cart attendants are careless and will push baskets without checking for cars, pedestrians, etc. You know what bums me out, though? How BITTER and UNHAPPY Ivonne the cashier is. Her sour attitude rubs off on all of her customers and it's NOT a pleasure sealing with her. I shop at this store at least 3 or 4 times a week and all the personnel is very professional and attentive, until today. I had only 3 items when I approached one of the only two registers that were open after a lady approached as well, the cashier was a guy with a blue shirt and glasses in a register with the sign off and he start wringing the lady I ask if he was open and he said he wasn't I then ask why he helped the lady in front of me and he answered with a high tone of voice that he has to go help someone else in the front. I waited on line for a good 10 minutes then I ask the cashier to speak with the Manager, she then said the guy with the blue shirt (Gerardo) was in charge but she will call the General Manager, which she did but he never came. Food 4 Less is probably the best Grocery store in SoCal. Its inexpensive, they don't need a club card, and you don't feel too crowded at CostCo. This is the first time that I have been to this Food 4 Less location. I am a regular customer at the Panorama, North Hills and the Van Nuys locations. Like my Shakey's list, I want to visit every Food 4 Less, ONLY in the SF Valley. I am glad they open at 6am. I think before, they used to close at 1am, but all locations pushed it back to 12am, but thats fine to me. North Hollywood area is a little fishy to me and the roads nearby are less than average with roads half paved. I walk in around 6am to wall of supplies. Its cool that most Food 4 Less gives you a little guided direction before you go haywire down the aisles. Just after a minute, I smelled something so good in the air. It was the fresh pastry from the Panaderia. It smelled so good and they were baking on the spot..DELICIOUS!! I picked up two pieces of this warm bread with this pink frosting on it. It smelled so heavenly and was so...HOT!! Couldn't wait to eat it at home (Its gone now...lol) Next, I stop at the fresh produce/fruit section and got me some apples (2lbs for $1) and Navel Oranges (5lbs for $1). They were fresh and probably straight from the truck since it was very cold. Got me two newly stacked wheat bread (88 cents each always). One gelatin mix (.88 cents), Mayo ($1.98), and my favorite...KRAFT Mac & Cheese (2 for $1). I love Mac & Cheese, but my friend kept talking about cheese at 1am and I got a craving for Mac and Cheese for the past 5-6 hours. My total was around $9.37. My recommendation is to go at Food 4 Less and get the fresh stuff before the crowd makes a mess. This applies to all locations. They put new stock of items and you will surely have an employee around for assistance than during the day. I was supposed to give this location a 3 Star Rating because it was an average location, but the pastry from the Panaderia was so good and the smell was overwhelming. Sketchy area, yes.. Cheap prices - oh ya. I was kind of amazed coming here the first time. There were a LOT of good deals. For example, White Castle's frozen burgers are $5-$6 elsewhere, $3.99 here everyday. Lean Cuisine meals are all $1.99, regular price.. A giant (and I mean gianttt) container of mini croissants, only $3.99. My only word of advice is to be careful as to if they give you the advertised sale price. They have just added on some new parts to the store the most noticeable is the meat counter. They now have all types of meat and seafood to choose from. I love the beer section here and the food is always good and has a nice price to it. The parking lot gets jammed a lot but its OK if you park towards the back or the side. This is my local Food4Less. Yay -_- There are tons of parking. This is like a little 'shopping center'. You have a Bargin store, a laundromat, a bomb ass chinese food joint that hooks it up, and a little 'fashion' store with very little fashion. My aunt bought some dress here. I went in to by some cake for a relatives we were visiting as guests and I thought of buying the New York Cheesecake that was in the ice cream cake location. I took it to the counter and there was I guess no price, so... not believing he top price of $9.00 for a whole cheesecake... the worker there went to check, when they came back I was even suprised to pay $9.00 for the cheesecake, expecting to pay like $19.00 for it. Think about this: KROGER COMPANY owns both Food for Less and Ralphs. At Food For Less you get a severely restricted selection and discounting because you pitch in and bag your own food. (That probably saves Kroger company some REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURY WORKMANS COMP CLAIMS.) At Ralphs you have much higher prices, and a much bigger selection. Now at Ralphs they want you to cashier and bag yourself out of there with their computerized self service machines. YOU GET TO HELP BREAK THE UNION, KEEP PEOPLE UNEMPLOYED, and YOU STILL DON'T GET A DISCOUNT. Should you shop at Food for Less instead of Ralphs? It DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT TO BUY. I've noticed that on some frozen foods, say Hot Pockets, that both stores vary prices in such a way that sometimes the better deal is at Ralphs. On Produce the prices are better at Food For Less almost always. ONE THING THAT IS DIFFICULT FOR ANYONE WHO IS NOT BUYING FOR A FAMILY is that you may not want to buy "10 FORS" at Ralphs any more than you may want to buy huge containers of this or that at Food For Less. Food For Less is competing with some of the Latin/Mexican grocers in the area and Ralphs is trying to outdo Food For Less even though Kroger owns both. I find the smaller owner-operated stores, in particular those that have butcher shops, to be better for fresh meats (unfrozen) and produce. In particular to this neighborhood, yes there area a lot of interesting people around, in the parking lot, and BEHIND THE STORE, where there's been a lot of drinking and crime. It took me forever to find. Being a cooker and a food shopper, sometimes I would want to save a few $$ and not hit Ralphs (Food4Less is owned by Ralph's parent company, Kroger). This store was ok. I'm not a fan of the layout-- they control the way you shop, but the frozen food is big and the produce is good. Sometimes it can be a little dead, but as long as you use the produce in a few days, it should be fine. I have nothing against bagging my own groceries. I understand them cutting costs everywhere to give us cheap food. It does bring in the Valley's finest. Some dirty people come here, but it's Food4Less. read more

Went in to buy 3 for 12 soda. They had one of my brand. Asked cashier if I could get it for $4 as it was the last one. He said no, "But you don't have to buy it," (duh) "It's on you." I did not buy it. I wish I got the guy's name. Older bald guy, pretty tall. It's not my fault they ran out of what I wanted to buy, and instead of doing what pretty much any retailer would do (have have worked in retail for many years), I had to deal with this loser. I came to this store and was so disappointed with them. I'm currently disabled and can not walk long distances, there were several cars parked in the handicap spots without handicap licenses plate or placards. I parked far away and notified one of the store rep, he stated that he would notify his manager. Samir(the manager) told me that there is nothing he can do about.
