Today I was in the Van Nuys area so I decided to go to the super King Van Nuys instead of my normal super King store in Northridge. What a big disappointment! I was faced with this Rude employee named Martin who tells me flat out that the employees of the store or at least Martin is not about Customer Service or the customers needs. Earlier I had walked by the tangerine booth. I saw that the bin was empty. I went over to Martin and ask him where are the tangerines located he pointed where they were. I looked over and I said the bin was empty and if they can fill it. Non-responsibly he struck his shoulders so I walked over to produce Manager and asked can they bring out fresh tangerines since the bin was empty. He said fine in 10 minutes. I continued with my shopping and 20 minutes later I came in and the bin was still empty so I went over to Martin and as I couldn't find the produce manager, I asked can they fill the bin he says when I get around to it so I walked over, found the produce manager, and I asked for the tangerines to be filled. The produces Manager went and ask Martin to do that. exactly 2 minutes later he walks up to the tangerine bin and tells me why did you go and asked the mgr for Tangerines? I told you I will get to it when I get to it. I told him that I had a doctors appointment that I've been waiting for 20 minutes and I'd like to finish my shopping to which he responded well we don't work around the customers schedule we work whenever we want to. This has left such a bad taste in my mouth and so contrary to my experience in Northridge. I hope the store manger pays attention to Martin and his lack of customer service attitude. read more

The parking lot is always jammed packed because so many other great businesses are in here like Jamba Juice, The Habit (hambergers), Pollo Campero, & more. Where they succeed in produce they lack in employee competence. Don't get me wrong, this place is busy all the time. It doesn't matter what time or day, they will always have customers. With that being said, the competence of their cashiers and customer service is lacking. I had the one day where the express line wasn't busy. The cashier saw me put down my 3 items and a divider behind me as she was ringing up items. The next thing I know I was up next and she looked at me puzzled, wondering what I was buying. She charged the man in front of me the 3 items I decided to get after she clearly saw me put them down. Then decided to send us to customer service to straighten it out, blaming me for the not putting down a divider. In my defense, it's HER job to pay attention to charging people the correct items! It's not my fault I came in while she's was ringing up the last couple of items for the man in front and decided to be a dummy and keep going after she saw me put these items down. So I wasted another 5 mins of my time to get down to customer service as the manager had to reimburse the man for my items and then charge me. And she even doubled down saying they required customers to put down a divider. I'm sorry, but that is the dumbest excuse I've heard in my life. No other supermarket would be blaming customers for not putting down dividers. Isn't that part of your jobs?! And if it's the customer's responsibility, I see no sign saying this as this is just an excuse to not be held responsible. Five stars for Krayden who workes in the produce department. Since I can remember shopping at Super King in both Glendale and Van Nuys, I can't recall anyone as helpful, considerate, informative, and kind. He always directs me with a sincere smile and I for a brief moment I forget that I am in a large busy groceery store. Krayden cares for customers as if he owns/manages Super King. Today, when I thanked him for his kindness, he responded "It is my pleasure, thank you for Shopping at Super King." WHAATT??????? I have yet to meet an employee at any store be so genuine. I hope this message reaches his managers and he is appreciated for the joy he brings us. Outside of my comments regarding Krayden, it is noteworthy to mention the cashiers are generally not very social or friendly. The store offers a variety of products including many Mediterranean items (a wide range of herbs and spices and competitive prices). I have spent a lot of money at this store. They have cheap produce and reasonable prices on meat. They also have great prices and sales on liquor. So..... I bought Ciroq cognac here and was sick when I realized that the bottle did not contain ANY liquor but a coffee mixture of some kind. Fortunately, I didn't get sick but I could have been poisoned. The bottle was sealed. I showed the bottle to the Assistant Manager Maria who actually said..... Our bottles are sealed?????? AFTER I told her the bottle was sealed when I bought it. I called the police who advised me to report it to the FDA and also the Better Business Bureau. Ive been shopping at Super King for few years, because the prices are generally pretty good, and never really had issues, but I also never had to return something before, until today... I came to get some things like any other times, but also had 2 things to return that Ive bought few weeks ago, but wasn't able to come back again to return. Thought I'd be able to next time I go since markets generally do not have return windows...But since I never had to return anything at Super King before, I asked the cashier Irene as I was checking out where I can make a return, but she says "I don't know." No disrespect, but what kind of employee doesn't know where a customer can make a return at a market THEY WORK at?! It's hands down the dumbest answer I ever had.... I even asked twice, cuz I thought I heard it wrong the first time, but apparently, I did hear it right. She was just...very dumb... Then I walk over to the small counter by the exit and ask "if I can return something that I bought some time ago?" She says "no problem." So I take out the receipt and show it to her and she says because their policy is TWO days and few weeks old is "too long" ago, she's not able to. Idk why she said "no problem" to begin with then... My Favorite Supermarket....but Although it shouldn't matter, somehow it feels like it does, I am a 63-year-old African American male. I have an MBA from Columbia University (I was actually wearing one of their sweatshirts during my visit today). On my way home from Church I stopped at Super King in Van Nuys( I go there more than once per week). I got a few vegetables and dairy products. Then I purchased a bottle of wine from the internal liquor store. I put the bottle in my cart and checked out and paid for my groceries. This is where it goes left. I was having trouble with a clasp on my bracelet so I stopped at the counter where managers and customer service usually are. I asked a nice young lady to help me with the clasp and she agreed to help. While she was helping me another clerk came by and this woman asked me "did you pay for the wine in your cart?" I said "yes" Then she asked me to show her my receipt, which I did. I can understand her asking something to the effect of "did you remember to pay for the wine in your cart?" Although, the Liquor store takes care of that. However, after I said I paid for it, the conversation should have ended. If you are going to ask me for a receipt you are questioning my honesty and suspecting me of stealing. She should never ask that unless she has proof or at least probable cause that I was stealing something. Do they ask all people who leave the store with bottles of wine to show them a receipt? No, because I have done it dozens of times and not had that experience. In what world does a thief stop at the manager's desk to ask for assistance? I actually left the store, but after a few miles of driving, I went back to the store to complain. Super King ....train your employees better!!! If you accuse someone of stealing you need to be right! She didn't so much as offer an apology as she scurried away. I want an apology!! COVID 19 review: I came here early on a sunday morning. There was no line to get inside but it was already pretty packed inside. They have this awkward way one way of traffic to enter. You enter on one side but then cross all the checkout lanes to start shopping on the opposite end of the store. The selection at this store is pretty good and the prices are even better. There is a large selection of deli meats to choose from. The meat and section also has some marinated meats if you want al pastor or carne asada. There was a wide variety of fruits and veggies to choose from. My only complaint is there was no way to navigate those aisles using social distancing. They also have a little separate area for liquor purchases, but they do not allow the carts inside the liquor area, so plan accordingly. I was very pleased with the service here. There was a really long line when I was leaving about 2 hours later so I suggest coming early in the morning if you want to beat the customer traffic. read more

If not for the traffic at the parking lot, this market is really a good one. In almost one stop you can fulfill your grocery list demands. Prices are really affordable and also almost every week they have really cool deals and specials. When you sign up, you start accumulating points, and they always have some sort of a deal where you can use your points and get the exclusive deals. Usually here I buy nuts, mushrooms, yogurt, vegetable oil (they have really awesome special on that too), avocado oil, fruits. Also would recommend to get their marinated asada,so yummy, just bring home and prepare your dinner . Ok this is sad that I HAVE to write this review: In my photo is the assistant manager and staff who laughed at my wife and I when I asked what cleaning solution does the butcher section use because my chicken smells and tastes like bleach, and this guy had the audacity to ask us to show him the cooked chicken, well jokes on him cause we brought it - and he didn't even bother to smell/taste it himself, just thought we were lying. We came here when I was sick and wanting to make some chicken soup (good for the soul right); veggies, chicken quarters, whole nine, and I knew SK had the cheapest prices, well you get what you pay for here because I made a soup with the chicken and all of the veggies that tasted like bleach- and it wasn't from my house cause the unused chicken and the bag it came in smelled like bleach too; and because the chicken was inedible the whole thing was questionable, but this guy said he would only refund us the chicken; it was literally an extra $6 in produce.... This assistant manager (which I'll shorten to "ass man" to save time) told us that he would only refund the chicken because that's what was bad, and when we asked to get the veggies we put in the soup refunded, he laughed and said no, because the veggies were still good.... well no, because they were put in the soup.... "so?".... we can't eat it now because the chicken was bad, so everything that was cooked with the chicken is bad.... "(silence)", it's all not edible.... "but it was just the chicken that was bad".... and also the veggies because it was in the soup.... do you not get it...? We spent about 20 minutes round and around with this guy and their associate... thankfully manager came by and refunded us the total after asking his Ass Man to take a walk. The manager apologized and said he understood and refunded us the chicken AND veggies. Later that night I threw out the salmon and shrimp I bought also because those too smelled awful. Overall tossed $19 worth of food to avoid throwing up overnight or risk getting my family sick and I couldn't go through the ass man again to get THAT refunded. Avoid this place if you can afford it. Poorly managed facility that doesn't share the care for its customers like other grocery stores. Guy acts like he owns the place, like he's someone's spoiled nephew. Honestly if the ass man had apologized, got me the simple info I had asked for (which he said "I know what [cleaning solution] they use but I'm not going to tell you") and maybe refunded me I would not be writing this, but the customer "service" from him was so atrocious - if you've never been laughed at for caring about your health this guy will be happy to step up, that I will NEVER step foot into a Super King EVER again. AWFUL treatment by the employees. I've been going to this location for 8 years for produce. I purchase corn weekly and ALWAYS grab a bag of husks appropriate to the amount of ears I am purchasing. I pay for the husks via weight for the corn price. This Wednesday a worker approached me and very rudely insisted that I could not purchase the husks as well. She stated that it is company policy that they send them to compost. I explained that I have been buying them for years with no problem. She reached in my cart and forcefully yanked them from my cart. I asked her why she was taking them from my cart and told her not to touch the items I had in my cart for purchase. She insisted on calling security, which I agreed with and waited for. I explained to them the issue, she countered by saying I hit her. I insisted to security that they review the camera footage and if that was true agree to wait for the police to come, but if they see that it's untrue, they need to have the employee apologize.
