I came here around 2:35pm on September 24, 2025 and I needed to return something. I saw a few employees standing by one of the check out areas and they were so busy chatting and talking about something none work related that they left me standing there for several minutes. They did not bother to acknowledge me nor apologize for leaving me standing there. The message is definitely that the customer does not matter. I saw people wearing black polo shirts and royal blue. You know what I don't sleep on food for less! I was surprised to find things here that I couldn't find it in any of the really fancy stores. Like number one vegan marshmallows. That's a hot commodity for me. I know I'm always having a good time but the first thing that I am is a Christian. Definitely not a perfect one but that's why I go to church . What happens when we go to church we go to potlucks. Trust I'm only putting the healthiest ingredients in my famously Legendary desserts from the 50s. That means no animal products. I had a very unpleasant experience, I came in to look at some of the beef in the meat department so I asked the meat manager a tall Mexican guy in a white coat about the steaks. I believe his name was Omer, he responded back in a sort of rude & nonchalant manner to me and my older mother. I'm not sure if he doesn't like black people or if he was having a bad day but his customer service was very off putting and I would not expect that coming from a manager along with his English being very hard to understand with his accent. read more

Aside from other issues that this store has, what was really bad today was the customer service and the neet. This is Rancera meat and its nothing but skin. I cleaned 2.5 lbs of fat from their meat. This store is great. Great prices and well organized. The staff are very helpful. My issue with the store is the sheer amount of panhandlers in the parking lot, literally chasing you to your car. Last year, I was approached by the same one two different times with the same "ran out of gas" story. I didn't tell him I recognized him from the last time. I never give these men money. Yesterday, there were three young ones. One particular man had a hoodie and a mask on. As if!! He came dressed for trouble. No male should be approaching women in a parking lot. I'm more cognizant now when I leave the store after having been approached the previous times. I saw him heading toward me, so I went the long way and picked up my pace. Lucky for me, he saw another mark to approach at his car along the way, and I was able to leave safely. This was in the early afternoon. From the outside there isn't much to look at, however, once you walk in, you'd swear you were at some huge warehouse like Costco. This place is ginormous! The aisles are wide. This used to be a great grocery store but as of the last three years, every one of my visits has been met with disappointment. The cashiers are rude, and the night shift manager got into a screaming match with me after I asked repeatedly that they honor a price shown on the produce sign, a price that was incorrect according to them. The majority of the produce is old and overpriced. It's rare I go here anymore, Walmart and El Super across the street has fresher produce and better prices. read more

Oct 1 2019 purchased flap meat and after opening it at home, the meat had black stains or some sort of mutation. I don't know how they pass city audits. I started shopping at Food 4 Less in 2005 when i lived in Corona and it became my fav store next to Ralphs which is basically the same thing just a lil pricier. I moved back out this way in 2012 and this location is nearest to my home. They carry most everything i need, well stocked, big parking lot, plenty of baskets, they have updated the store over the last few years with a bakery and meat dept. Pay attention to expiration dates on the food, i have bought items that were a year over the date and still on the shelves. Customer service is HORRIBLE!!! I actually stopped coming here for awhile and was going to Ralphs on Firestone. Today i had the pleasure of being checked out by Roxanne who couldnt stop telling her line that it was almost time for her to get off and she couldnt wait to get out of there. She did not greet any of us going through the line, no how are u or did u find everything ok, not even a thank u. She did speak to another coworker walking by, yelling that she wanted him to come out to the parking lot to see her new car. People like this are my major pet peeve. Everyone does not need to know how much u hate your job, smile, be pleasant and just do your job while u are on the clock. We dont want to hear your problems, work is not the place. read more

Carts were locked at 1130pm. Watching people struggle to carry things is poor customer service. If I shop late I will be going to Walmart. I'm not walking around the store with 2 cases of bottled water, a 36 pack of beer, a gallon of milk, meat, cheese. Etc. We asked where we can get a cart. We were told we can look around for one. Interesting when it comes to rating the local grocery store. It's convenient. It is quite often busy. The staff is not generally evident or present (except the cashiers can always be found.) The prices are generally reasonable - but selection is limited. You can never just go to one store anyway even if you are a Pavilion shopper. The produce is typically very nice - better than Stater Brothers in many cases. The green beans, Roma Tomatoes and bananas are usually really good and cheaper than the competition - hands down. The ground beef is fresher than fresh and much cheaper than most stores - especially the 93% which is my preference for my world famous meatballs. The clientele are not always respectful of the store and the staff tries to keep up on the cleaning and organizing but its a tough job. And its sometimes hard to find a cart - Especially one that doesn't go...Thump Thump Thump. So overall, I shop here regularly and will continue to do so. Because the prices are really good and the selection is good...enough. I know I'm going to have to go somewhere else, but I'll save a lot here. There are a few times when I come in and the lines are long - but most of the time they have enough registers open to keep it moving pretty well. It's close, so often I just go there for a couple of items. But of course (time for my rant) they are like most stores and do not enforce the Express Line count, so sometimes those 15 items ends up being 15 BAGS!! read more

I've been going to this Food 4 Less for probably around 10 years since I moved into the Downey / Paramount area. It's got good prices compared to regular grocery stores, and a fairly good selection as well. It's true that you can get better deals sometimes at the nearby Walmart or even Aldi or Winco if you're willing to drive a little further however. If you need to recycle something, they have a Replanet outside with both reverse vending machines and an attendant able to weight bins full of stuff, but there's only 1 guy and the lines tend to be long. If I see more than a handful of people in the Replanet line, I just drive on by all the way over to Bellflower Recycling Center instead, as they not only pay more, but the lines are shorter, and there are multiple attendants who work quickly, and thin the lines out fast. If it weren't for the fact that BRC is further I probably wouldn't go to Replanet at all, honestly. Inside there's 1 Redbox machine (there used to be 2) which can be handy at times, and a Coinstar. However, your local bank or Credit Union will probably give you better rates for coin exchanges, and if you're part of a Credit Union, your local branch will probably exchange your coins for free (no % fee). I believe that Downey Federal Credit Union (in Downey's City Hall Area) and the Kinecta in Lakewood (by the Mall) both do exchange your coins to dollars for free as long as you're a member of their respective Union. Lately they have a Carniceria / Meat section as well, and it's pretty good and has good prices, but I personally find the quality of meats better at Stater Bros on Downey and Alondra, even though the prices are higher. At this point I realize that my review of Food 4 Less sounds a lot like "Damning with Faint Praise", but it actually really is a good, convenient, and generally well-priced market with a decent selection of stuff to buy that's worth visiting most of the time. Sure some of their options are surpassed by competitors (some of which I've mentioned) but that doesn't mean that their stuff isn't good, and that it isn't convenient. You can get some things done better at other places, but you can still get them done well at Food 4 Less, and at a one stop shop where you can do it all at once in a single visit. Plus, the employees are friendly and work hard, and know their stuff for the most part, so I feel like the service here is great. read more

So I've had a yelp for several years now. This is the first time I leave a negative comment EVER. Because I do feel that people have their bad days and we are human, it's natural. However today I had to ask for a managers name who was beyond rude. First and foremost I work in the customer service field and the fact that CELESTE is a manager is mind blowing. Usually before I review a spot I try to look at other peoples reviews and see what they're saying about the place. I'm a little disappointed that some of these so-called "Elite" Yelpers are bashing the hell out of this place like they were expecting to walk into Trader Joe's. It's Food 4 Less people, savings is just about what you can expect from this normal super market. My experience was far from what some people here have said. I went inside, got my shit, paid and walked the fuck out. The carts were being picked up, the employees seemed to be helpful and I was able to find everything I needed. I had no complaints. It was "A-OK" just like my 3 stars show. Now maybe if I threw up in their parking lot and expected to walk in to the holy grail of super market chains then maybe I would rate it less, but for me I knew exactly what I was walking into. read more

I've lived in Paramount (city right next door to Downey) for the last 7 years and this is one of the closest grocery stores to my house, so it's my go-to. It's got a decent selection of most mainstream items, fairly low prices, pretty good customer service and lately it has some organic produce! That's a plus for me since before if I wanted to get organic produce I had to go to the Ralphs on Firestone in Downey (which is farther away). Their organic produce selection isn't quite as large as the Ralphs on Firestone however. The Ralphs on Firestone has organic kale for example and I didn't see that at this Food 4 Less, although to be fair, I wasn't looking for organic kale the time I did go to buy organic produce at F4L. I'll look for that next time and update my review if necessary. The Food 4 Less does have organic bell peppers, cilantro, and romaine lettuce however (I recall these because these are things I've purchased). The line lengths vary depending on what time of day you go shopping. I tend to go shopping near closing time (they close at midnight) so it's not too busy then. They have a Coinstar machine there, a Redbox, and a bin for recycling plastic bags. Outside in the parking lot they have a recycling center called rePlanet. If you turn your cans/plastic bottles etc. to rePlanet they give you a voucher which you then have to take to a cashier at Food 4 Less and they scan it and give you the money amount. You can also apply the money from your recyclables to your grocery purchase if you are buying groceries at the same time that you are redeeming the voucher. read more
