As a resident of 12 years and a customer all these years, I CHOOSE to shop here. Why not run out to Food Lion? Why? I want them to succeed. I want them to stay in business. I want to spend my money (yes, even a little more on some items) because the island needs this business. They need us, too! We are partners with them and everyone tries very hard to please. I fail to understand why people who come from far away - used to shopping at Wegman's, Kroger, Whole Foods, etc. - believe that our store should carry their favorite item. While Island Foods now carries numerous brands of organics products, organic produce, and specialty items, they carry bargain and value priced items. This allows them to serve the entire range of customers. Prices are good from low end to high end AND they compare with Food Lion - often carrying the same brands. When you come to Chincoteague Island, make Island Foods Great Valu YOUR community market, too. Help our economy and support the locals who provide you with this wonderful "away place". And fellow island residents, please continue to shop locally because it helps us all to maintain the essential services we all need to live here as a community. Jama B.

On my last shopping trip there, I purchase 6 boxes of crackers, and didn't notice a sell by date on them. When I got home my daughter opened a box and found them infested with BUGS! I attempted to return them, with a receipt, 2 days later. I was told that they no longer accept returns for any reason! I asked to speak to the owner, since I know he occasionally would be there, but was told he wasn't in. The cashier also refused to give me his contact information. But, that wasn't the worst that happened, only wasted $12.00 on the crackers. The worst was the beef roast I purchased for $50.00 that was ROTTEN! I didn't bother driving over an hour back to ask for a refund, knowing now that they wouldn't refund, but I did try to call at least 5 times. No one would let me talk to the owner, or do anything about the roast. I wish I knew who to call to report this... Perhaps the health department, or the Better Business (BBB)people? Someone will eventually get sick, or even die from food poisoning. Something needs to be done, but I don't know who I should call. Also, it has gotten to be very dirty, and after driving an hour to get there, they won't even let you use the bathroom. How can they still be in business?

Ladies cooking the chicken were moms and grandmas. We got bake apples, coleslaw and potato wedges, along with a 20 piece chicken. Excellent dinner. Plus being a market they had cold A&W diet root beers in bottles for us. They also had other cold beverages available, including beer. Recommend this place for families. A park with picnic tables in nearby, next to post office.

Hometown Pride, a seemingly modest country store, hides a wonderful secret. This place has, bar none, the best fried chicken you will ever have in your life. Dead serious. I live in Washington DC, but whenever I'm on the Shore visiting the parents I order a 20 piece to take home back with me. I have no idea what those ladies behind the counter do their poultry, but it's pure magic. Salty and crispy and reheats really well in the oven. I've eaten at most of the upscale-country places here in DC and none of them hold a candle to the fried chicken at Hometown Pride. If you're passing through the Shore on 50 and can make a 15 minute detour to East New Market, do yourself a favor and grab some of their chicken. You will not be sorry. Also, for some reason the Yelp map puts this place in Secretary, which is way off. Use Google Maps or something else instead.
