Had a really excellent experience here despite the hit-or-miss reviews. We showed up on a gloomy Saturday morning just before the onset of some fairly heavy rain and the place was quiet, almost empty except for us and another gentleman.
The one guy working came over immediately, said it was fine to order breakfast or lunch (despite being past the cutoff for breakfast!), and was extremely amicable. Coffee came quickly and was really nice - HOT - which is key! We sat right by the window which was perfect for people-watching too. Food came out in a decent amount of time too - and WOW, was it good!
People had previously complained about both the sausage and the bacon, so I'll address that right off the bat: I'm 95% sure neither was pork. The sausage immediately reminded me of the Kielbassa my (Polish) grandmother used to feed us, which was beef sausage rather than pork. That being said, it tasted excellent and was cooked perfectly! The bacon was almost definitely vegetarian bacon, did not have the texture or taste of pork rashers at all. I wasn't as much of a fan but it didn't ruin the meal by any means. Both myself and my date detected some undertones of the Middle East in the food and atmosphere; this may help explain the lack of pork?
Anyway, the end point is that the full/jumbo Irish was slightly different from your typical one (the mushrooms were a little different too) but VERY filling and absolutely delish. Additionally, the soup and sandwich deal also exceeded expectations! The chicken had some subtle hints of the Middle Eastern influence too, subtle being the key word, and everything on the sandwich was fresh and tasty including the bread. The soup was a matter of debate - I said it was broccoli, my date said lentil - turns out we were both wrong and it was courgette! Equally tasty anyway, and the soda bread with it was tops.
Will definitely be returning! read more
