I'm all for supporting small businesses, in fact Fatimas next door is BOMB.com. I noticed Fonda Maria and figured I would give them a try. I ordered a carne asada plate with 2 EXTRA eggs added. I also ordered 3birria tacos and some guacamole. I was super bummed when I got home and realized they didn't add the 2 eggs even though they charged me for them. The asada was dry and super thin. No flavor. And the birria tacos were dry unfortunately, the meat was hard. It was an over all bummer over all. I do have to say the customer service was good when I picked up my food the lady was nice, I just wish she would of checked my order so she would of caught the missing eggs. First time here and it was very highly recommended. We ordered the Enchiladas de pollo, Molletes, y Chilaquiles with beef and over medium eggs. The Chilaquiles we're good.they are green but the spice does kick in and they were enjoyable. The same sauce for the Chilaquiles is used in the enchiladas. Don't be surprised if you get wet tacos. They don't roll enchiladas here. The beans have a different taste. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but it's just not my favorite style of beans. read more

DONT Go here ... my sister went here for 3 days and she really liked the coffee on the 4th day she decided to take some to her coworker by usc and the coffee was bad ... something in it was expired and she wasn't going to go drink it to get sick from it... she called the place and they gave her a hard time so I went and they didn't want to refund her or give her a credit since SUPPOSEDLY nothing was bad!!! This is a simple restaurant in a non-descriptive strip mall. But I think more of these places are needed. The food is home made style and simple. The rice I got with my meal, tasted truly homemade and was fluffy and moist. The waitress was nice, she did come by a little too often for my taste. The only way this place could be better is if they served beer. If you like modern, corporate owned restaurants that have the pagers with the red lights to let you know your 45 minute wait is over, then don't come here. This is no frills. Small family run business. The complimentary salsa was a perfect amount of spicy. We got the wet burritos (green and red) of asada. Its filled with the typical beans, rice meat, cilantro, onions and then drizzled with sour cream and cojita cheese on top. It could of been a little more wet but over all a good burrito. We also got the costillas en salsa verde and man it was yuuuuummy! The broth/ green salsa is the perfect spiciness level that makes you want to keep eating. It also comes with potatoes and slivers of nopales (cactus). Super tender and served with a side of beans and rice. The rice was nice and fluffy and beans were pretty basic. Only "complaint" would be that it took a good while for the food to come out BUT it's a one man show in the kitchen so we totally understood why we had to wait. If you go, try the agua de pepino! Pozole wast tasty enough despite the tough and dense res inside. Tostadas were a bit stale, and the onion chopped so thick my mom said "se parecen muelas de caballo." Aguas were adequate but lacked a bit more flavor to make them excellent. This all would have made for a decent afternoon out except for the unbelievably slow service. Our server was timid and tentative and almost everything we asked for took an excruciatingly long time to arrive. Even my normally patient grandmother was annoyed. The problem with this place lies in how clean it is. It isn't clean. However, the people are friendly, the food is okay, if sad looking small portions that tastes average fits your definition. However, the very plentiful chips and beans (and the guac we ordered) were VERY good. The main dishes may have left quite a bit to be desired but those chips were okay, and the beans and guac were really good, fresh and delicious. I feel like this is one of those places that get an inflated rating from their regulars. Overall though, it's not too bad even if the prices are a bit on the higher side. read more

Authentic Mexican food that is made fresh and with pride. The location is small, clean and simple. Seems to be family owned and operated. They accept cards and prepare orders to-go if you wish. The menu offers traditional dishes, I can't point out just one favorite dish since I have so many. First off, this place is a bit hidden so you'll have to keep your eyes open. It's located in back of the Papa Johns. I ordered the chilaquiles, cafe de holla, mollete and a quema grasa juice. Everything was fresh and the coffee is out of this world!: no sure needed, a little creamer and your good to go. The juice was fresh and had pineapple and citrus fruits. The chilaquiles had just the right amount of heat and had just the right amount of sauce! And the service was phenomenal!! The staff was very welcoming, very authentic mexican place reminds me of D.F food with healthy juice options and shakes. We were offered a bowl of complimentary chips with very good salsa. I ordered a café de la Olla traditionally made with cinnamon and piloncillo. I ordered the molletes, a chorizo and potato quezadilla, and a flor de Calabasa and mushrooms quezadilla wich were infused flavor. My hubby had the chilaquiles with steak and a traditional licuado . 5/5 Stars As an avid lover of Mexican food, I would like to think I have a high standard for the cuisine, having been to Sinaloa and other parts of Mexico as well. My favorite dish is Chilaquiles and so naturally I've been looking for the best place around. Thus far, I had been disappointed with most of the Chilaquiles in the California compared to Mexico. Fonda Maria changed that perspective. I got the Chilaquiles with Egg and Chicken and it just hit the spot. The little spicy kick was a pleasant surprise though I wish it was even spicier. The green salsa well complimented the rest of the dish and even though I don't like beans, the beans were excellent as well. For my drink I got the Cafe de Olla which was also good. The cinnamon added just the right amount of flavor to the coffee and made it quite addictive. Definitely going to go back when my craving for Chilaquiles comes around again. read more
