Been going there for years. NEVER seen on time. Ever. Usually seen within about 45min of my appt. So long enough to be annoying but the sunk cost of your time at that point is what it is. The upcharge for the retinal scan is fine, if it's working. They even hit me with having to dilate anyways about 25% of the time. Dr E or whatever rotating random new OD they had were serviceable if you wait long enough. I had an appt on the books for months and got text/email/called to ensure I was showing up. I showed up, and....drum roll.... NO Dr Esperon. Front desk staff just looked dumbfounded. I showed all the texts and confirmations. They had no words. I swore I'd quit right then, but I rescheduled. The automated system did accuse me of cancelling my appointment without proper notice quite a bit. Classy. Next time I went I brought my little kids to show them how a OD office worked so they wouldn't be scared. The pretesting went fine, BUT 90min later I had to walk out. The front desk staff were apologetic, but I could tell they've done that before with patients. They made no attempt to let me know there was a wait. I had a deeply disappointing experience at Focus Eye. After my eye exam, I was supposed to have my pupils dilated -- a critical step, especially as a diabetic. That never happened, yet I suspect my insurance was still billed for it. I brought my own frames and ordered lenses, expecting a one-week turnaround. Three weeks later, after repeated calls and shifting excuses, I still had no lenses. When I finally went in to cancel, they tried to pass off my old lenses as the new ones. If I hadn't asked, I would've walked out unknowingly. I requested a refund and asked when my insurance would be reimbursed. The front desk staff couldn't give me a straight answer. As I left, I overheard one of them say, "She so nasty." After being misled for weeks, I had every right to be firm. That's not "nasty" -- that's holding people accountable. Customer service like this is unacceptable. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend Focus Eye to anyone who values honesty or professionalism. read more

Horrible experience with Focus Eyecare and Dr Esperon. I visited this office in January for an exam to get my contact lenses renewed. The office was in the process of being acquired by a larger conglomerate /corporation and as a result my trial lenses didn't arrive for 6-8 weeks. I told Dr Esperon that I could not wear bi focal lenses because they give me migraines yet he ordered them anyway and a regular set of lenses. I could not get either prescription filled until the bi focal lenses arrived which came at a later date. So I tried the regular lenses he recommended and I had blurry vision and no night vision. Finally the bi focal lenses arrived nearly 2 months after the exam when they were ordered. When I returned to have my script reassessed I was told I had to pay for another exam bc the previous exam was 6 months old. I argued that it took about 2 months to get both sets of trials which were 30 day where and I tried both sets. I refused to pay $80 for a new exam as a result of the convoluted and unorganized process perpetuated by their office changes. Furthermore, I had previously paid for an eye exam and the doctor did not fit me with the right prescription in either set of trial lenses hence the reason I was returning. The office assistants spoke to the doctor and he agreed to charge me for a contact lens fitting versus an exam. I arrived 5 minutes early for a 4:45pm exam and waited 1.15 hours for the doctor to see me. During this time I was seated in the hallway and Dr Esperon walked passed me twice in and out of exam rooms seeing two other patients. He never acknowledged I was there to correct the job he previously did wrong. I was also called on the phone 3 different times and emailed to confirm the appointment which I did and arrived early. This practice has an outside call center that schedules their appointments and it's difficult to reach a person but they were adamant about confirming I would be arriving or I'd be charged a cancellation fee. Not only did I show up, I arrived early to a messy situation. I will not be returning to this office and still do not have my prescription filled for contact lenses. Dr Esperon, you and your mother company need to do better for your patients. read more

I made an appointment for a checkup. I was told that I would have my eyes dilated in addition to the usual tests. After waiting for an hour, an assistant took me to do various tests. I waited another 20 minutes to only get 4 minutes with the doctor, and to be told that I'd have to make another appointment for the dilation. I had to pay for 2 visits instead of the one that was supposed to be complete. More than the money though, was the 3 hours that I wasted in that office (both visits combined). The worst part was that I had an undiagnosed eye problem and had vision loss that got worse while I was under his "care". My issue was beyond the scope of an optometrist, and I should have been referred to a specialist. I decided to find a specialist on my own, so I needed the records of my visits and the tests and images that they took. I called (no easy feat getting someone on the phone). They said they would fax them. They didn't. I called again. They still didn't send them. I went in person. They said that they faxed my records. When I asked for the fax confirmation, they couldn't produce one. I asked for them to print the documents out. I waited 30 minutes only to be given a fraction of the documents. When I told the office staff that the packet was incomplete, they said that I'd have to wait while they brought the images over from another system. As I waited another 20 minutes, I watched the staff trying to get the documents together. They seemed a bit lost and perhaps that's what took so long. I got more papers but still don't know if the documents are complete. All the way around, this office seems more like an expensive eyeglass store that also offers expensive eyedrops and supplements, not somewhere to get good eyecare. read more

I've been going here for 23 years and this most recent visit will be my last. They messed up my appt, didn't take responsibility or fix it. I asked for a manager to call me- waited a week then I called myself. When I finally spoke to the manager he said he would call me back and never did. Clearly they couldn't care less about my time or how their error affected me. To think they would treat a long-standing client this way was very telling for me. This company has changed into something I won't support- that's not how you treat people or how you resolve issues and definitely NOT how you run a business. THIS IS PURE DISHONESTY AND FRAUD. I rarely write reviews but this was just beyond imagination in multiple dimensions. This week I did my eye exam (which was great) here and ordered a pair of 1.74 Zeiss SV lenses with Duravision Platinum coating and did not see the "Z" marking on my lenses. Asked why and was told Zeiss no longer provides marking on SV lenses (which is clearly not true per their website and I also just ordered another pair elsewhere recently). Knowing I was lied to, I then requested to see Zeiss certificate and they gave me some shipping document from NASSAU OOGP (another manufacturer, see attached) with prices etc. all crossed out. I asked and it turned out they finally confessed that DID NOT GIVE ME WHAT I ORDERED AND PAID FOR. Their explanation was that ordering high index lenses from Zeiss will take longer and they just want me to have my eyeglasses ready sooner so they gave me something that's "same quality". Wow how nice, or should i say how preposterous! To fully disclose, I provided my own frame and lenses cost me $329. I paid $247 and the rest goes to insurance (see pictures). I don't know how much it costs them to order from Zeiss (and don't give me wrong it's not my business to care) but I can confidently assume that their "replacement" they gave me costs way less. To be fair they did, maybe out of guilt, say that they will this time order me exact what I want and paid for from Zeiss. I am just glad that I kept all the paperwork, and I will see how this goes and follow up accordingly. I really wish I could give them the benefit of the doubt that they really weren't trying to scam me. However they did give me Zeiss card and cleaning cloth (see picture), only trying to make me believe that it's from Zeiss, and only telling me oops sorry after I demanded proof. I don't want to accuse them for things I don't know. But I can't help imagining how many other customers could have or already have fallen for such scam of theirs! I will just say, I don't think an average customer would have this level of scrutiny. In any event this is by no means a result of miscommunication. I understand that businesses are undergoing hardship during current pandemic but HONESTY SHOULD STILL BE HELD UP TO. I was so disappointed because I have read good reviews and Dr. Feldbaum-Smith has been great, and such fraudulent (I hate to use this word) behavior just makes me both surprised and sad. read more

I've seen Dr. Sultani for the last two years and both my visits went really great. My very first they spent a lot of time getting to know me and what I like in my glasses and contacts. The appointment took long, but they weren't late in seeing me , they were just thorough. I was out in an hour and a half. The second time, toon about 45 minutes but I was getting my eyes looked at. Spent about 10 mins with the nurse and 25 mins with Dr. Sultani. My contacts were discontinued and she gave me several variations to try which I appreciated, some other doctors have been stingy with their samples. I only discovered the practice two years ago and sadly I'm moving to the West Coast and will need to find a new one. I'd stay here if I could, ask for Dr. Sultani. read more

Completely unorganized office, but what is even worse than the hour long wait due to overbooking is the ripping off they do here. And the doctor cannot even do her job correctly! My prescription was wrong and was not corrected for MONTHS due to their slow shipping methods. After waiting 6 weeks, yes 6 WEEKS for one pair of practice lenses to come in, they were so blurry that I had to come back in. Dr. Feldbaum-Smith admitted one of the eye prescriptions was wrong so we had to REDO the appointment and the front desk lady tried to charge me AGAIN even though it was their fault it was wrong. Then another 6 weeks I come back and wait 40 minutes just to be given the contacts! Finally when I wanted to order the full supply they tell me WITH insurance it would be $450. Normally I have always paid between $100-130 and it was the same type- Biofinity toric. I said no thank you, asked for a copy of prescription to be sent to me via the portal. They tell me "give me 15 min." 30 minutes later I call and they then tell me "the portal is having issues so check back later." I HAD TO PHYSICALLY COME TO THE OFFICE AND PICK IT UP DUE TO INCOMPETENCE. You would think the prescription would be printed for me when I got there? Nope. Had to wait for her to take another patient then write mine out. Worst practice ever. I just ordered the same contacts online for $100 and they will be here in 10 days. Even if you can't buy them online ANY OTHER EYE DOCTOR is cheaper and better than this hell hole. Do not come here ever, you've been warned. read more

I have been going to this office for over 10 years and the service gets worse as the time passes! Every time that I go in for my annual visit I wait over 30 minutes to see the doctor (they are over booked - always doing the patient shuffle from one exam room to another) and then the front desk staff is rude and incompetent. I have been through incorrect contact orders, staff barking prices at me (not writing anything down), and getting hung up on when you call the office is almost guaranteed. I called today to get a receipt and got hung up on and then was placed on hold for 10 minutes and THEN hung up on. Third phone call and its 30 minutes later and I still don't have a receipt! I have been going here for three years now because it is close to work. I am giving four stars only because Dr. Jennifer Capstick is very personable and cheery. She is very friendly and makes you feel comfortable during your visit. I am taking one star off because the frames are ridiculously priced even with insurance you will have to pay so much money out of pocket. I want to take another star too but I decided not to. The delays is around 15-20 minutes. They never stick to appointment time because patients come in late and of course the next patients get delays too. Other than that, I would still recommend Focus. Angie from the lab by the way is awesome and she is very helpful when placing your eyeglasses order. Make sure to review your insurance coverage though and the computations are correct before you leave. read more

I love these guys. I've been coming to Focus Eye Care for over 15 years! My whole family comes here - even my Ex! The staff is professional and friendly. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I appreciate the fact that I can trust them to give an honest opinion on the frames I've selected-even if the better fitting glasses cost less. Dr. Esperon and Dr. Capstick are fantastic. They are genuinely good people who are also stars in their profession. They take the time to explain things in plain English and I never feel rushed. A year ago I suffered an eye injury shortly before a business trip. I was worried about flying with my injury and being on the west coast in case my eye got worse. Dr. Esperon gave me his personal cell so I could call him at any time. He also found a colleague out west that I could see in case of an emergency. Honestly, not only is Dr. Esperon the most knowledgeable optometrist I've ever been to, he's also the kindest and... the nerdiest! He has an affinity for his job -- and the tech involved -- that I don't often see (get it? "see?" Ha... yeah.)... even in my own field, which, coincidentally, heavily relies on my eyes working well. The glasses Focus offers are top notch, high quality and practically indestructible. I say "practically" because I have a 5 year old and 1.5 year old who have been trying their hardest to prove that theory wrong. He and his staff were also incredibly patient and easy going. They all chimed in on which glasses they preferred on my face, and took turns sitting with me as I repeatedly poked myself in my own eyes in an attempt to fit myself with contacts for the first time in 41 years. I used to use cheap-o glass places like Warby Parker and Zenni, but was never satisfied with the experience. If you want to deal with self important hipsters and lackluster frames, go with one of them. If you want a quality experience with a doctor that will prevent you from going blind / walking into a wall / looking like everyone else with glasses, go with Focus! read more

Our family have been going to this practice for almost a decade (since Dr.Berman's times). Spend so much time and money there, and yet one little favor we asked for was met with so much rudeness and ignorance even from the office manager . I asked for Dr.Esperon to call me to discuss. Needless to say that hasn't happened either. So we left the practice. No questions asked, I am sure that the doctors don't even know how the real show is run at the front desk. This review is not about Dr. Berman personally. The two times I have dealt with him he was professional and competent. He answered my questions and was helpful in calming me down about having to get glasses. This review is about the staff. I have never dealt with a staff of people that could be categorized all at once as incompetent, rude, unprofessional, disinterested and nasty like them. The first time I ever went to his office, I am literally standing at the counter for 10 minutes before anybody even bothered to acknowledge me. The receptionist is playing ****** solitaire on her computer when I said "Excuse me, I hate to take you away from your game but I have an appointment" Then she gets mad at me for calling her out on it. I waited 30 minutes for a ***** nurse even though I had an appointment. Later on, when I was looking to buy new frames, I told her the price range I was looking for. She then takes me to the area that was twice my acceptable price range. When I told her the numbers again, she reluctantly took me to the right area. It's as if I am labeled "Middle class" and banished to the corner. Then, when we sit down to talk about price and I pull out my insurance card, she says they don't take it. I know she's lying because I was specifically told by my insurance company that he is on my plan. When I tell her this, she gets offended and says that I am wrong even though I am right. To be fair, the second time I went, their was a different receptionist who was nicer and a little more helpful but then she got annoyed at me when I asked to use the bathroom and she couldn't find the bathroom key. WTF! I will never ever go here again. Dr. Berman as aforementioned I have no issues with. But his staff makes going to his office unpleasant at best. Take your business elsewhere read more

Been coming here for over 3 years now and today happened to be an emergency. I came in at 8am, voiced my concern on my left eye without an appointment and half hour later I was seen by a new doctor (my usual doctor is Dr. Esperon) and by 9 am I was out the door with a prescription. Staff and doctors are quick, effective and productive but Dr. Esperon is my fave and a great eye doctor. Too! He is very thorough. I have never had an issue with any of them rushing me and I feel like they really value their patients. I won't trust anyone else with my eyes ever again. I have been going to Dr. Berman forever - he is the only eye doctor I've ever had - and can't think of one complaint. Every member of the office is welcoming and friendly, and Dr. Berman really knows his stuff (as does Dr. Esperon, the other doctor in the office, I'm sure). There is never a long wait at the office, something I value highly after waiting for hours at so many different health appointments, and they do everything they can to accommodate you. My husband and I arrived at his scheduled appt time.. I waited in the car as he sat in the office for 1.5 hours without being seen by the doctor. Instead the doctor continuously walked by him as he sat in the hallway chair and continued a discussion about weddings and vacation trips with another patient. Never made eye contact with him or apologized about the delay or anything. How inconsiderate. My husband then checked out without being seen by the doctor. Let me start by saying that finally deciding on Focus Eye for what I was looking for was done after extensive research and my initial contact with Vlad who is amazing within the realms of the world of sport optics. I needed to have a prescription pair of eyewear for skydiving and there is no room for error with this, and the very last thing I wanted to do is deal with Internet companies with no presence for service. I found the manufacture that I liked and numerous dealers in my area. In contacting these dealers and Focus was above and beyond anybody else. My initial contact was on a Saturday at 5:30 at night and Vlad answered the questions I had to get the ball rolling. He knew about factors of polarizing, transitioning as well as venting and fogging and what will affect the overall visual spectrum. My first jump with my sport glasses was on Easter Sunday and the second I left the airplane and entered a cloud structure and came out of it I was in awe of how clear everything was, when i landed I actually walked off the field and the first thing I did was send Vlad a thank you e mail. (the reception is poor where i jump, i would have called) These people are the real deal. If I can trust you with my skydiving eyewear it's a no brainer who is getting my vision business for when I am on the ground and who I am referring business too. read more

His professionalism, expert knowledge and genuine concern were so refreshing in an industry that is more and more driven by profit and a quick turn over. I came here a couple weeks ago to see Dr. Shah for my annual eye exam check-up. They accept Davis Vision insurance. Office is on the 2nd floor. They're doing construction in the front entrance, so all the parking is blocked off. I think they have parking in the back or underground. I'm not sure because my bf dropped me off before heading out to grab popeyes for a snack. Pretty sweet office set up with displays of glasses to try on and everything. They also have a keurig machine for patients who want tea or coffee. I only had to wait 15min for my 3:30pm appointment. Dr. Shah and the staff were thorough in my eye exam. They offer for Optos retinal exam (no dilation needed) for an additional cost, but I chose to get my eyes dilated because it's included in my insurance. No frills or small talk from Dr. Shah, which I preferred because I was in a rush too. So in a rush that I forgot to ask for my glasses and contact Rx, bill statement. I just paid the co-pay and left. Haha! The next day I called if I could get my Rx, but the office lady told me I had to set up another appointment so that Dr. Shah could make sure the contacts fit me and didn't cause any irritation, etc. I guess that makes sense. But I've been wearing the acuvue brand for years and the only thing that changed was my right eye worsening by 0.5, but whatever. I asked why they didn't tell me that before I left and they forgot. Err ok. So I'm scheduled to see Dr. Shah in a couple days. read more

Had my first appointment in many years with Dr. Feldbaum-Smith. She explained everything that they were testing and why, and thoroughly answered any questions I had. Easily the nicest and most informative eye doctor I've ever visited. Every member of the staff I interacted with was kind, professional, and super patient even when I was being very indecisive with my new glasses choice. Their optician Vlad was very friendly and helped me choose the glasses that I LOVE (+ they were ready in less than an hour). In regards to the actual office, it looked very well-kempt, every piece of equipment was clean. They have a really nice selection of glasses which made it hard for me to choose just one. I'll definitely come back for my future appointments and new frames!! read more

I've been going to this office since 2013, which started off as a groupon. I wear glasses all the time and I have dry eye so these appointments are important to me. The doctors were all real nice and answered any questions. I have been seeing Dr. Esperon this past year for my dry eye problem. Sometimes the wait can be long. They make you wait in the waiting room and then in the hallway... I could be in there for 2+ hours at times. In February of 2015 I began receiving emails and texts from ZocDoc and realized I was signed up through this office. At first I wasn't too happy about that - but I noticed in one of the emails I could manage my appointment. So in mid-April I rescheduled my appointment for a day in May. I even received a reminder email from ZocDoc the day before my appointment. Upon arriving to the office the front desk tells me that I am not scheduled. I show them the ZocDoc reminder and they responded "Oh it's one of those again". As if ZocDoc is some foreign thing to them... and they don't sign their patients up for it. Seriously? I am sad to go because the Doctors are great but I don't have the kind of time to worry if the front desk is doing their job. As for ZocDoc they confirmed it was an issue on the doctor's end. They sent me a $5 giftcard to amazon for the trouble. Now I will just use them to find myself a new eye doc! Edit: I don't find the response from this office helps at all. It does not change my review or how I feel. They couldn't even accomdate me when I was there, and told me I had to wait an hour to see Dr. Esperon. I have now been going to Heights Eye Center in Hasborouck Heights and I'm very pleased with their service. read more

They made an error on my daughter's billing ( they admitted their error) but billing wasn't available. They refused to schedule appointment but never got call back from billing ( 2weeks). We called numerous times. Now I said that they would loose three patients and I would "Yelp" clerk said "good luck " and hung up! I have been a patient for over 20 years. We never got any notice of a bill. I don't care how pretty the office looks if the service people are rude. So to the clerk who hung up .... here is my yelp of you. I've been a patient at this practice for YEARS. Use to see Dr. Berman and now Dr. Esperon. I don't mind the wait because the Dr's are thorough. The turnaround time to get the Rx filled for glasses seems long but I don't mind. What I do mind the dismissive attitude of some of the newer staff members. My prescription was incorrect, they "corrected it" but I still couldn't see so I went back a second time, I overheard a staff member say "I'm not dealing with her, she's been back several times already"....really? I'm the customer and I can't see through the lenses. Then they tried to convince me that if I just adjusted my environment - move my computer screen around - move my chair around, that the glasses would work. Again I say, really? read more

My husband choose Focus Eye Vision because they accepted our insurance plan-- I had read no reviews on Yelp prior to taking my son to get contact lenses. The office itself is beautiful.... Spacious, open floor design that has comfy chairs and displays of eyewear that you can peruse. They also have a nice little coffee area so you can make yourself a vanilla coffee from the Keurig while you wait. We have had three appointments at Vision and I can honestly say I have never encountered a surly front desk staff. Finally, I have only dealt with Dr. Esperon who deserves my highest praise. He is soft spoken, readily answered any of our questions and worked with us for several weeks finding contact lenses that my son felt were comfortable. We were never kept waiting more than 15 minutes from our scheduled appt time and always went home with a swag bag full of contact lenses and samples. So, I guess you can see why I'm perplexed by some of the negative reviews! read more
