My family began going to Focus about 3 years ago and it's been a great relationship thus far. The front desk ladies are amazing; they are courteous, help you almost immediately upon signing in, always have a kind word, and will get you any information about your insurance you need. If you are like me who pulls her hair out at the thought of dealing with insurance, they will smooth the way. Dr. Esperon is a gem, and all three of us go to him. I suffer from horrendous dry eyes and he has patiently led me through a veritable forest of combinations until we have, for now, achieved a measureable level of relief. He is just a great doctor, and miracle of miracles, he has early Saturday morning hours...wow. We get our eyeglasses thru Focus and oh god, the frame experts will get you something you will love. Eric and his crew are simply awesome, and stand by every single pair of frames and lenses they sell. You unhappy? They will make it right. I had a problem with my ray-ban sunglass frames; I brought them in and Eric made it all right. Different people have different experiences anywhere they go. I purchased a Groupon for Focus Eye Health & Vision Care and I'm so glad I did. I do not have vision insurance so this was a great deal. I purchased on a Thursday and received an appointment for a full eye exam the following Monday. I met with Dr. Esperon and he was friendly, knowledgeable and patient. He was very thorough and answered any and all questions I had. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful as soon as I walked in to the moment I left. I tried this place for the first time today. My son and I saw Dr. Capstick, she was very knowledgable, informative and friendly. All the girls at the front and the technicians were very pleasant and nice to deal with. Lastly, the optimal manager, Francis, was so helpful and kind in helping my son and I pick out our glasses. I do not really write reviews but Dr. Esperon was awesome. I really needed a contact fitting and the only place I could find around my job was Focus Eye health for $115. I saw Dr Berman first.. and he was.. hmm.. lets just say he was not as patient. He gave me the wrong prescription, which Dr Esperon fixed, and then he was rushing me out the door. Dr. Esperon was very nice and patient. He answered all of my questions and was fine with taking the time to make sure that I was comfortable in my contacts and that I had the right prescription. He gave me different solutions and drops to try out and he didn't give me any grief about ordering contacts elsewhere. The ladies at the front desk and the women who did the initial, i guess basic test?, were also very nice. They knew I had to rush back to work right after and they were super understanding and accommodating. Overall, I would recommend Focus eye health.... preferably Dr Esperon. read more

Based on all the positive reviews I read, I was really excited to visit Dr. Berman. I was sorely disappointed. Dr. Berman was rude, condescending, and had absolutely no bedside manner. 1 - He made a point of making me feel bad about the fact that I was trying to stay within the coverage of my insurance, because I refused optional parts of the exam that I would have to pay for myself. Which I would be unable to do. He made claims that my insurance wouldn't cover any of the exam - when in fact he was wrong. 2 - He rushed me through the exam, barely giving me a moment to choose between the options that would determine my prescription. When I asked him to slow down, he didn't even acknowledge that I had spoken and continued at his pace. 3 - He repeatedly left the room in the middle of my exam without ever saying a word to me. And at one point came back into the room with his next patient while I was still sitting in the chair. He basically told me that I was done and I could leave. In the end, I was not comfortable that the prescription he wrote was correct. He did not even offer a trial pair to check that it was correct. Bottom line - he was unfriendly, unaccommodating, and downright rude. This was my first and last time visiting this facility. read more

Dr. Matt Esperon is amazing! I wanted to start wearing contacts so I went to him to get a prescription and he gave me trial contacts. I was having issues and he took me in the next day and fit me into his schedule. I could have sworn a contact was in my eye and he did SEVERAL procedures to make sure nothing was in there and make me feel better. I then was brought to train how to put them in and take them out and the girls that helped me Kathlyn and Marie were SOOO extremely patient with me and taught me a way which was easier and more comfortable for me to put them in and take them out. I went to Focus Eye Health in January of 2015 because in the past my family and I have always received excellent service by the Dr. and by the staff. We had moved about 40 minutes away, but I was willing to travel to get better service. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was less than stellar. First, the Dr. never asked if I was using my reading glasses for the computer. Second, the Tech who assisted me in picking glasses was very inexperienced. After waiting two weeks for the glasses to come in, I went to pick them up and COULDN'T SEE!!! They gave me a "computer progressive", instead of a "standard progressive". I wasn't asked which one I wanted, I don't know if the prescription I have is for Computer or Regular Progressive. They'll call me back next week when the Dr. is back in the office. The Tech who assisted me when I went to pick up my glasses said that whoever ordered these glasses/lenses should have realized that the frame didn't fit correctly. I was then told that they would order another frame, their selection was sparse, but it would take 3 weeks to arrive. She also said that Dr. Esperon does not usually give refunds. They also no longer carry Tiffany or Koali brands. In the end, I requested a refund for my glasses and for them to reverse the charges to my Vision Insurance. This way I can get glasses somewhere else. The office manager, Fran was quite short and curt, and reminded me several times that this is a onetime courtesy. I had to help her figure out how much to credit my FSA account. Diane, who handled the insurance reversal, was very kind and apologized for the misunderstanding. Hopefully they will heed my warning to re-train their Techs. read more

I originally decided I wouldn't go back to Focus after Dr. Berman died, but then I kept hearing such good things about Dr. Esperon from my family...so I decided to go. When I first got there, I was greeted upon walking through the door by a sweet Asian girl at the front desk. She got me signed right in, and told me to help myself to coffee/tea while I waited. After making myself a yummy cup of coffee, I was called in by the nurse Chrissy. She was delightful and was very patient with me (I use a cane so it's hard for me to get around). I was then brought into the room to meet Dr. Esperon and get my eye exam. To my surprise, he reminded me a lot of Dr. Berman. He explained everything to me in Layman's terms and made sure I knew exactly what kind of glasses would be helpful to my specific situation. After my exam concluded, Dr. Esperon brought me out to the front and showed me where the women's glasses were. SUCH a beautiful selection of all types of nice brands. I was helped by a man named Vlad who got me into the perfect pair of Alain Mikli glasses. My glasses took a about a week to get there, and they have someone sit with you when you come to pick them up to make sure you like the fit, look, and sight. I was going to this office with my family for more than 8 years. Even when their prices are double what you are charged elsewhere with my vision insurance. I really liked the staff, and the professional expertise of Dr. Berman, and later on Dr. Esperon. Last year, I had my teenage daughters come home to inform me that the office manager was extremely rude to my husband. She did this in front of everyone present. I went to Dr Berman the following week to speak with him about the incident. He looked for an excuse for the behavior. I told him, that even if I was going there with Medicaid, or medicare, they owe all their patients the same professional courtesy. We have a private insurance. However, his office manager started talking about medicaid and about insurance charges that had nothing to do with our insurance. I agree 100% that rudeness outweights the knowledge of these doctors. i do not recommend this practice to anyone looking for a professional optical. this is a good place, but everyone here is in outer space, and have no consideration for your time. i've been here 4 times in the last 4 years, and it takes almost 3 hours to get your eyes checked, and then you still have to order your glasses. this is always with an appointment, and when you're there, there is no one in the place, i wonder how they stay in business. a very unorganized establishment. plenty of other eye places. read more

i tried to give this place too many chances and have to say that first time i went there i thought it was a great place but after getting my new glasses they were suppose to give me some special eye drops to have my eyes get use to wearing them but never did after my vision started to get worse because of the glasses i went back to them and that's when Dr. Berman stated that they should of giving me the eye drops. then twice now they have messed up my paperwork for payments because their staff doesn't know what they are doing. will never go back with the lack of incompetent staff that don't know what they are doing. i care too much for my eyes for that. stay away if you care for your eye sight. read more

I have been going to Focus Eye for a few yrs and I will not be going back!!!! I normally do not write reviews but the horrible customer service I have received is unreal. Waiting for over 2 weeks to receive my contacts and I have called the office 3 time during the week and no one can provide me an answer as to where my contacts are. They tell me the person who handles that dept is off every time I call. REALLY HOW DO YOU RUN A BUSINESS THIS WAY!!!!! NOT ONE OTHER PERSON CAN MAKE A PHONE CALL TO FIND OUT WHERE MY CONTACTS ARE? Apparently they have my money so I assume they could careless! No one has followed up on my order or could least call me back and tell they are working on it. I have to keep calling to get the same answer. Now I'm out of contacts they have my money and I'm left highly upset and still I called this morning and was given the same response!!! I had such a pleasurable experience at Focus Eye Health and Vision Care. I was greeted immediately by friendly faces and had a very short waiting period. The atmosphere was extremely comfortable and the staff was very accommodating. Dr. Berman 's expertise came across immediately as I had been put through a number of tests that I had never experienced. I felt reassured as his processes were very thorough. His cutting edge technology and up-to-date approach were also very impressive. In the end, he diagnosed a problem that I had been dealing with for years, provided me with the proper treatment, and sent me on my way. After needing new lenses, which took 3 tries to get right, and being told to come back-TWICE-because the doctor thought I didn't have appointments; the doctor was too busy to see me. He was rude, why didn't he book less patients and take more time with his patients? I have been going there for many, many years and I have never been treated like s--t before. The eye exam was horrible. The guy does the switches between letters soo fast that he shouldn't even be in practice. Switching letters so fast and he will say "Oh, your eye got worse but only a little bit." This makes you buy new prescribed glasses and or contacts. This place makes it's main business from selling glasses. They sell a frame that is very cheap to buy at $30 and then they want to sell it to you for $179-$500. They make a huge profit margin and it is very unfair to the average customer. The owner himself is a guy that wants to take money from the client anyway possible. He gives little hints here and there saying "You sure you don't want to buy glasses?" keeps asking for like 4 times... He tries to be smart, but if you're intelligent.. you will pick this up right away. read more

I checked the VSP web site this morning to determine if there was a VSP location more convenient to my home than the one I had been using. I found that Focus Eye was only two blocks away. I decided to try them out and explained to Vlad that I needed a new prescription filled for my two sets of lenses. He took a number of measurements and suggested I try Transitions (which I accepted). The bill that I was presented was for $435.20 and I told him that I had only paid a little more than the $20 co-pay in the past. I confirmed that fact when I got home and went back and cancelled the order. I returned to my previous VSP location and the charge was $92 (without Transitions). I am a nurse out of hackensack hospital that was refered to focus eye care from numerous girls on my floor. I made an appotinment, and was told that i had been there as a patient in the past. This worried me because i knew i had never been to this location. After looking into the issue, it was found that someone used my info and insurance info to make an appointment and get services. i was amazed to find out that they dont check id's at the front desk, nor do they make copies of thee things we give them to protect ourselves. well doctor berman is a very good doctor and all my visits with him are fine...but his staff and he should do something about it . they suck..the last several times i have gone and i been going weekly for eye infection , they keep getting mixed up as someone else and in the past i was there with my son and ask to pick up my husbands glasses and the girl said that my husband picked them up already, she should have got off her ass and look for them. my husband never picked them up so he went and they were never worked on and it took almost 3 weeks to get them back..i think they got a new system and its not working out ..they need to double check things and ask people there name when in room read more

I have been a patent at Focus Eye Health & Vision Care for about 4 years. In years past, I was happy to travel up from Somerset County to see Dr. Berman. Unfortunately when he passed away the business took a wrong turn. In the past there were Great employees that really made the experience worth wiled. Since Dr. Berman's passing, the staff has gone through a dramatic change. There was not one person I recognized from last year. The change was not positive. I do not think that they would be up to Dr. Barman's high standards. When I arrived at the office, I looked at one of the TVs; I was horrified to see Dr. Berman talking in a video (that speaks for its self). I had my eye exam, Dr. Espron was nice enough. He did not have the level of expertise that Dr. Berman had in regards to my visual impairment. I needed a new prescription, so like in the past, I ordered the new lenses and was going to have them cut when they came in. By doing this I am able to keep my frames and my old lenses so I do not have to go without for 2 weeks while the new ones are made. I have done that for 3 years with no problem. When the lenses came in I went up to pick them up. When I got there I gave my frames to them and waited for the lenses to be cut. During that time, I had my eyes dilated. It takes about 10 minutes; they did not come back for me for about 45 minutes (they only remembered after I made a big Sean). During the time that I was waiting for my eyes to be looked at, I was told that the machine that was cutting my lenses "malfunctioned". Because of that the top part of the lenses that was cut off. Because I have had lenses cut for these frames before, I know that it was the operator that messed up not the machine. Because of that Focus rush ordered a new set of lenses for me for free. The next week I was informed that, the new lenses came in but they were not up to "slandered". So again, they ordered another set of lenses. Luckily for them, when I went up for the third time, the lenses were cut correctly. THE FACT THAT IT TOOK THREE TRYS FOR ME TO GET My LENSES IS OBSERED. I will NOT be going to focus next year. I am very sad to say that because I have loved going to seeing them for years. In addition, I want to tell Dr. Barman's family that my thoughts are with them. read more

The service was very welcoming and friendly. There wasn't much of a wait to be seen after I arrived either. They were able to schedule appointments for me and my wife one after another although it took about 2 weeks to be seen after making the appointments. The exams were very detailed by the techs and the ophthalmologist. I've never warn glasses but in the last few years my near sight has been getting blurrier. I was amazed how clearly I could see with the examples the ophthalmologist chose for me. After about an hour of exams, we went to the showcase area. The selection is pretty big. There are all kinds of styles and brands from low end to high end designer brands. I thought they were a little on the pricey side but then again I wouldn't know since I've never had to purchase glasses. I've seen prices at BJ's which are much less. You're probably better off taking your prescription to a wholesale warehouse if you're a member or Walmart if you want to save some money. My wife ordered her glasses from BJ's at a much lower cost for a designer brand. My glasses costed about $200 at Focus Eye for a low end brand but I like them. I don't care about designer brands. For detailed exams, I do recommend Vision Eye but I didn't like the prices. read more
