I am not sold on Flytrap. My sister and I were doing some brewery hopping and decided to get Flytrap in before we left the downtown area and it was perfect because they open at 3pm. Though they open at 3pm, the side door was not unlocked, and the establishment was dead. We were sitting outside for 10 minutes before an employee came to let us in. The brewery is clean, and still has that new smell to it. With just turned a year old (the day we visited), I was expecting awesomeness. Sadly, it was a less than awesome experience. My sister is a huge craft beer connoisseur, and I was just along to try new things! Flytap didn't have any beers on tap, meaning they had 4 available beers, two of which were theirs. I find it a little strange that they didn't have more beers to offer and especially more of their own brew available. The even stranger part, these two beers of theirs that were offered weren't even the two that they are best known for. Flytrap has a lot of outdoor seating and they have board games available which makes for a fun atmosphere. The staff who took care of us was friendly and a pleasure to be around, too. But even with those things, I am still held up over them not having more beers. We are giving it three stars one for each of the three beers they have. Great logo and location but we were surprised they only had three of their own beers. TLDR: Great, local brewery that's a must for the craft beer fan in Wilmington. I was passing through Wilmington on the way to Kure Beach and I decided to stop by since I heard that Wilmington has a pretty good craft beer scene. North Carolina as a state is pretty amazing for craft beer and I've visited quite a few of the breweries in Asheville and Charlotte, and I think Flytrap can really hang with the best of them. I am not too familiar with Wilmington, but this place seems like it's just outside the busiest parts of downtown. We parked downtown and made the short walk here after checking out some other stuff downtown. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and I immediately really liked the space they got over here. The atmosphere is pretty chill here and seems like a great place to hang out - day or night. If you like trying beers at a new brewery and/or can't commit to just one beer, Flytrap does do flights. This will give your four sample sized pours of their beers. I ended up going with: - Hoppy Tripel - Petite Saison with cranberry - Belgian Dubbel - Rehder's Red Ale It might be a matter of personal preference, but I thought the Hoppy Tripel was good, but not great. Based on other reviews, it seems like most like it though. I really enjoyed the other three beers, however, especially the Belgian Dubbel. If you're a fan of Belgian beers, you're in luck. Simple, unassuming space. Great beer. Gourmet snacks. That pretty much sums it up. I'd consider myself to be a man who enjoys a good brew, but not a beer snob by any means. This place knows what they are doing, and that is brewing good beer. The stout is one of the best I've had in a while, and the blonde is really flavorful (and this gentleman typically does not prefer blondes). Cool atmosphere with delicious beer from the brewery. They rotate a lot of guest taps and feature a huge list of sour beers (if that's your cup of tea). The good folks on the NC Beer Reddit suggested that I try our Flytrap during my extremely short Wilmington visit and I am SO glad they did! My husband and I each got a flight so we can taste most of their offerings. I was particularly impressed with the Pecan Nut Brown Ale and the Sweet Potato Porter. What made the visit even more awesome was they were featuring an artist who makes cigar box guitars. My husband has made a couple himself, so it was great to see the work of others! Flytrap Brewing is my favorite spot in Wilmington! The beer selection is excellent with a specialty craft for each taste preference. Currently, they are serving beer brewed outside of their facility but they will have their in-house brews available shortly! While Flytrap Brewing does not serve food, this aspect is a positive for dog owners. Flytrap Brewing allows friendly dogs INSIDE their establishment to enjoy the air conditioning while their owners enjoy a cold one! We will come to Flytrap Brewery after hours of exploring Downtown Wilmington to enjoy a few drinks and allow our pup time to cool down. If you like great beer this place will not disappoint. You won't find IPAs here, but don't worry - the hoppy tripel is excellent, as is the saison and stout. They definitely know what they are doing when it comes to making great beer. They also offer a thoughtful list of bottles if you're in the mood for something different. The bar itself matches the quality of the beer - comfortable, clean, and inviting. Its clear they take pride in what they do here and I'm looking forward to visiting regularly. read more

Best IPA I have tasted, better than any on tap at Burial Beer Co. in Asheville, which is on the "Top Ten List" to visit in Asheville. I was blown away by their latest Rotating IPA made with Vic Secret and Mosiac hops. This formula deserves to be made permanent and the beer named. Took two growlers home and will be back for more before they rotate to a new formula. This one is special! read more

A gem of a spot. I've only been here a couple of times. But each visit was with a large group and they took really great care of all of us, no problems. Their beer is great, atmosphere is really laid back and fun. The art installations are cool (the last one I saw was the Arrested Development one) and OH YEAH....they've got shuffleboard bowling. read more

Not impressed. Second time coming to this place and they still have hardly any of their own beers on tap. Three to be exact. Last October they had four. Hoppy Tripel is fairly good though not nearly hoppy enough to give credit to the name. Also tried a very ordinary saison. Decent atmosphere but a little too trendy for me. Was excited to come back after reading all the good reviews. Probably won't waste the trip whenever I make it back to Wilmington. The place is very quaint and not hipster at all. It's a plus anytime the Avett Brothers & Old Crow Medicine Show is your background music. The stout is a must have. The four flagship beers are the Rehders Res Ale, Hoppy Tripel, Stout, & Saison. I'd start with a flight and then grab your favorite. This is as quality beer as you can get in Raliegh, Charlotte, or Asheville. North Carolina beer is well and good on Wilmington. read more

The space is beautiful- a very cool industrial vibe with a huge bar and stainless tap tower from which the delicious Flytrap nectar flows. Mike is putting out both great American and Belgian style beers and I would certainly recommend a flight for your first visit. The stout is a personal fav but you can't go wrong with any of these beers! The staff is great and they have a very solid lineup of snacks from the Veggie wagon (salsas, hummus, cheeses, etc).
