This is a very cozy brewery in a cool neighborhood. They have a parking lot, which is a huge plus. They also offer a large list of beers which is surprising for such an unassuming location. The beertender was very friendly and gave me a few tasters. The beers are decent. You can bring in food and there's a great Thai restaurant right across the street. This isa "no tip" establishment which I love for the transparency. However, this means that many beers are $9 to $11 (one of their hazy's was $11). I know costs in Seattle keep increasing due to the many taxes on business and inflation, so this may be the new normal for us. read more

Well-designed and laid-back space just past the main drag in Columbia City. Outdoor seating was lovely on a summer evening and the bartender let me sample the two NA options I was interested in, which was a nice touch. Great option for a group meetup. Flying Lion is a nice community spot where you can enjoy drinks with your friends. The beer is great, vibes are even better, and this is a no-tip spot as they pay their employees living wages. They have seating inside and in the outdoor patio, where they're always featuring cute plants. As with a lot of bars in this area, they don't serve food, but you are allowed oto bring your own. One of the best breweries here in Seattle. I wonder why it took me so long to explore this brewery here on Rainier Ave. we stopped by on a Friday evening with 8 other friends and were luck to get a table here. We loved their Levitator Doppleback, Sunday Gold Lager, Sour cherry Asian Perry, Belgian Quaddammit. Thats all we ordered but my friends loved everything they ordered too. The brewery is small and cozy. There is some outdoor seating and some indoor space. This place is hustling with people especially on weekends. We loved the vibe and coupled with great beers this is a perfect place to enjoy and welcome the weekend or any weekday I am certain. They are dog and kids friendly. They dont have a kitchen but you can bring your own food or order in from restos near by. Parking can be a pain but you will find street parking for sure. All in all I will be back here for more and frequent enough. read more

Top 5 brewery in Seattle area, no joke. This place has only been around for 8 years, but they know exactly what they are doing. The taps..spectacular. They have something for everyone...dark unique porters/stouts, Juicy IPAS, and Visiting Ciders. And the vibe is exactly what I look for in a local brewery. Not big and in your face, but still makes enough of a statement from the seating around the kegs inside, to the barrel seating under the heaters outside, to the super welcoming enjoyable staff. LOVE IT! Pro tip: the Kenyan restaurant right next door is LIT! The food is amazing on its own, but the fact that you can order and they will bring it to you at the brewery...nothing better! Good food + good beer. It's done. Another great benefit is that this location seems heavy in the downtown Columbia City area, but there is a parking lot for the brewery which is great! First off, I appreciate that Flying Lion stays open late! Some breweries close around 10, but Fl is open until midnight. Their menu has a nice variety of beers, including sours and IPAs and lots more. There's something for everyone here! Not huge at all, but they have nice outdoor seating with comfortable bar stools and hooks to hang your purse or bag (and lots of counter space!) Beertenders are friendly and attentive. Like many breweries, they allow food, so I recommend grabbing dinner next door at Safari Njema (amazing Kenyan food)--they will bring the food right over to you so you can enjoy it with your beer. I'm embarrassed that it has taken me this long to write a review for Flying Lion. It is one of the new-addition gems of Columbia City. Delicious beers in a small and cozy atmosphere of friendly bartenders. Their lineup of beers is an appreciated departure from the IPA-heavy menus of other breweries in the region. Try to the Belgians - the Quad, the Golden... You won't be disappointed.The interior is small with a handful of tables and a small bar. They have a single TV and a game is usually on. No food in-house, but they have a pile of menus of local places that will deliver or carryout (I recommend Safari next door!). read more

I've enjoyed going here primarily since their outdoor seating and heat lamps are great! Covid changed the landscape of all indoor dining/drinking recently but I'm thankful they're still operating! Their open until 11 pm on the weekdays, and there's also a bunch of places to grab a bite to eat if you're feeling up for a snack with your beer. Another seattle brewery I get to check off the list. I found them on instagram as someone I followed tagged them. I was excited to see they were in seattle and more excited to see they were not too far from a trip I wanted to make to georgetown. We visited last saturday and I am happy we did. Very good beer. I have had two of there beers now and I am happy with both. I would say the parking lot is a bit of a mess but that isnt there fault. The location is busy but wasnt too busy when we were there, and there outdoor area is nice. I would recommend a visit for sure. read more

this place is a "locals only" sausage-fest to the max. For those who dont know the term.. This is a small brewery stuffed with 7-13 bearded men who will slam 3 beers, fill a growler and go home for the night to watch an indie film and play video games until sunrise. It's important to note I came here at 5pm on a sunny seattle friday. While, hey, yeah the beer is solid and that's what they do which saved them from a 1-star review. The bartender got pissed that I was on my phone for 5 seconds while grabbing my check.. was he mad about the phone? Nope.. I think he was mad I was with my wife. Finally made it in to this local amazing brewery and super happy!! The beer tender was great! So helpful with giving tastes trying to find me a great beer. Though all their beers were great I have just become super picky. Loved they mango sour! And the coffee stout was perfect. Also enjoyed the pumpkin oatmeal stout, and the blood orange ipa. This place is SO cute! I absolutely love the atmosphere, and I personally enjoyed their beer. My boyfriend wasn't too impressed, but I guess its just preference. It is just in your basic shopping strip, but it doesn't feel that way inside. Its cozy, the lighting is perfect, and they allow dogs. That is a big WIN in my book! read more

Flying Lion Brewing - First round of beer tasting. - Breweries Near Me - Seattle, Washington

This stretch of Rainier has a parking lot on the west side that's almost a side street unto itself. It's not that it's huge; there are bigger parking lots. But after blocks of almost every business fronting on the street, this little cul de sac of a parking lot has at least half a dozen businesses turned sideways from the street--rad Vietnamese, ice cream, pinball, Kenyan, night club, other stuff, and now a brewery. You walk in and there are high ceilings leading away from the door down a long, narrow space. It's a couple tables wide, basically, with a bar on the left and, to the right, a hallway leading straight into and through the brewhouse. It's one of those combined spaces that are becoming more and common with startup breweries. The tables are kinda interesting; one of them shows a glass top over some cool rough-looking beams banded with steel. Industrial, but homey enough. You could call that the startup aesthetic in the brewing world. To make sure the hominess comes through, they even had a vase of fresh daffodils on the table, which is a welcoming touch that you definitely don't see at every single brewery. Staff here are super quiet and reserved, or at least they were for the hour or so we were there. Very nice, and certainly well informed about the beer. They're right on point with checking glasses and offering rounds, pouring flights, and all that. But soft-spoken and of few words, to be sure. There's a bit of music playing through decent-sized speakers flush-mounted in the wall, well above head height. There's a big 70s amp with lit-up VU meters driving the signal. I dig the hell out of that, from the hardware to the placement. They mostly played newer rock, KEXP type stuff, but I can't say I noticed which bands were on. The beers here are solid, reasonably priced, and available in fairly generous pours. We tried the sweet potato porter, which was just a porter with extra hints of sweetness. Honestly, the flavors could have been a little clearer in both the base beer and the sweet potato. But the doppelbock was pretty rad. Definitely not the sugar bomb that many doppelbocks (even some of the world classics) can turn out to be; this one had all the malt body but had nuttiness and toastiness from the grains, without the syrupiness or stickiness that sometimes come along with the style. If you're on the hunt for cool, less-promoted Seattle breweries who know what they're doing, ya gotta get in here and check these guys out. read more
