Gluten free dessert special
Anastasia D.

Cozy, fancy (for the area) restaurant, with gluten free options, despite being Italian cuisine, and a decent cocktail selection. Service was slow and mediocre, which would be my only gripe, but otherwise was a very pleasant experience, fresh food, and a delicious GF dessert torte. One of the only places open until 9pm in this sleepy town, and probably the only "fancy" bar if that's what you are looking for.

Outside dining option

Chanced on this spot in Paonia, CO. It was a terrific surprise. Some of the best food ever in a delightful setting--including outdoor dining. And the bar man was great!

I ate there the last two nights. The first night I sat outside and had one of the best burgers I've…read moreever eaten! Truly delicious! Sitting outside was comfortable and I was well cared for by the staff. The second night was a bit cooler so I ate inside. It's a sweet, little space, comfortable, cozy with 8 2 tops which can be configured to accommodate larger parties. The bar has 6 seats. The staff are friendly, accommodating, smiling and greet everyone who enters. I arrived early the second night so there was room for me. Suggest you make reservations, especially if your more than one person. On the second night I had the Buddha bowl which was delicious! I chose a beef skewer and shiitake mushroom skewer over veggies and rice. Delicious! I talked we the other guests from The Bross B&B who as Leo ate there and had identical experiences. They ate fried chicken and waffles which sounds weird and they raved shout them! The place is small. The menu is ample for having choices. It doesn't look like much as you walk up to it and when you walk inside, it is beautiful!

Surprised at the mediocre reviews as our group of 6 all thought it was excellent. Even my 9 year old devoured them. Chicken and waffles was perfectly cooked and I liked the pickled onions added. Only negative was that they were out of all of the good wine selections and only had those from a local winery that I did not care for. Would definitely return when again in Paonia.

Just like most places in Aspen, the food here is also criminally overpriced. Between the three of…read moreus, we got a cup of soup and 3 sandwiches. Split 3 ways and including tax/tip, the bill came out to nearly $40 per person. That being said, the banh mi I got was quite good - packed w/flavor from the kimchi and the sauce; though this is probably the first time i've had a banh mi without any cilantro... The thai coconut soup, though, was a bit of a let down. It had all the right flavors, but was in dire need of some acidity and sweetness. Without that, it was quite one-dimensional. Service was decent. We were seated outside so quite a lot of people around and so it often felt quite cramped. Overall, not bad but there's definitely better out there.

As for a sit-down meal, M&C is not in the forefront of my must come back to anymore. When informed that there'll be a long wait to their charming patio; I made the mistake this evening of taking a table inside for immediate seating. Very slow and unattentive was the service there. So disappointed also I was with my undercooked "rotisserie chicken" and the once beloved brown sugar butter sauce of theirs was sour. When asked if they had changed the recipe, our server replied "it depends on who made it" - really?!? I didn't leave this time with that warm and cozy feeling of being a guest at their place, instead now I was just another customer! cheers!
