I came by with some friends while visiting from out of town. Eating vegan can be challenging most of the time when trying to eat out. They were really nice and helpful in making sure that we had something to eat even though that something ended up not being on the menu. And it turned out delicious! In fact one of their local regular customers who overheard us order said that she wanted to order the same thing in the future. Perhaps we helped out a new item to the menu! Wow, what a meal. We are in the middle of a small farming town and I had the MOST amazing pasta meal in my life. Fresh spinach fettuccine with squash, zucchini and a pesto cream sauce....topped with pine nuts. Oh, man!!!!! read more

This place is awesome! The service was great and they totally accommodated the sudden appearance of 12 people. The food was amazing and way better than I was expecting for small town CO. Their fresh pasta is so good! I also snagged a bite of their tiramisu which was only ok but they had this custard that melted in my mouth. Makes me hungry just thinking about it! read more

This is an excellent restaurant that we had the pleasure of visiting this past summer while embarking on a two week road trip. We stopped off in Paonia to visit some friends and this ended up being one of the more memorable evenings that we were able to share with them. Wonderful wine selections and fresh, fresh food! We are at the cafe on a Sunday night. They served nicoise olives and bread while we mulled over the menu. Great selection of local wine and beer. Mom surprised me by ordering the smoked chicken pizza, which was fabulous. I had the special, a house made linguine with veggies and light Alfredo Sauce. Marvelous. We split the orange cheesecake for dessert which was the best I can ever recall eating. Next morning we stopped in to the bakery for scones and Danishes and bread and you name it. My wife and I were in Paonia for the Dances for Peace festival and had read terrific reviews of Flying Fork. We stopped in for dinner - we did not have a reservation - but they seated us anyway. It was early so the restaurant was empty. The first waitress was very nice, took our drink orders and left. That was the last we saw of her. After sitting for too long the restaurant began to get crowded. We flagged down a waitress who took our order. That was the last time we saw her. A nice looking kid brought some bread and olive oil to our table. I'm a bread baker and this was the nastiest chunk of half cooked dough to ruin olive oil with. A 3rd waitress shows up and says she's our waitress and again takes our order. My coffee is unceremoniously dumped on our table. Meanwhile guests who arrived long after us are getting their main courses while we languish over what can only be called a post-nuclear spinach salad with PTSD presented with nasty hard pears with nary a dram of dressing which my wife had to practically trip someone to get attention. It was like a scene out of David Copperfield. By now the ice in my water has melted and I am losing my good humor. When the folks next to us, who arrived 15 minutes after us, got their lovely Salmon entrees we had had enough. After complaining to the hostess, who kept mumbling "OK OK", we walked out. The prices are certainly 4-star, but the service gets a grudging 1. read more

Visiting the Paonia area for a few weeks and I found this GREAT restaurant the Flying Fork. A nice walk through the terrace to a cozy dining room where we were greated by a friendly hostess. The wine selection is good, spinach salad fantastic, and pollo marsala with pasta exceptional. Make sure you visit the front of the building where they make fresh from scratch desserts, breads, and bagels. I ordered two loafs of cinnaman raisin bread and they were freshly made the following day for pick up. This is a MUST visit! read more

Very impressed with this little find in this beautiful town. It reminded me of being surprised to find a great French restaurant in a small Mexican town that was a gem and very unexpected. Of course this is fully Italian and excellent in all respects. The olives and bread to start set the tone, the pizza was excellent as was the chicken parmesan. Their deserts looked great but we did not have any. Local wine was good. read more

I was visiting Paonia CO from Ca when we decided to eat at the flying fork restaurant. The restaurant was small and clean. I had the chicken marsella which was okay. I was very surprised that the price was $21 and most other items on the menu over the $20 range. It's my experience when eating at a restaurant in CA, the meal for $21 would be better than just "okay." Just sayin..... read more

Amazing food, great staff, wonderful bakery....

I do not live in the area and I went in looking for a specific gluten free pastry that someone had told me they had, and when I got there no one knew anything about any gluten free things they make. They asked if they could take my number to call me if they heard anything from the owner. The owner called me back and raised her voice at me before I even got any words out telling me they never make gluten free pastries and never will. She kept repeating herself as if I was trying to argue and all I wanted was to get off the phone with her. Long story short she made me cry over a yes or no question. I'll never go back. And I also won't send any business their way. No one deserves to be treated like that. read more

I am very glad I ventured off the main drag and stumbled through the garden into the courtyard for a great dinner. I had a calamari steak with pasta and my partner had a pizza and a salad with great goat cheese and dried fruit. Gazpacho was fresh and flavorful, and I was very tempted by dessert but was absolutely full. Local wines are served. This is one of the best dinners I have had in a restaurant in a long time! I wouldn't eat here again if it was the only place in town. We were besieged by flies, both on the patio and inside. The restaurant has no screen door and apparently no screens on the windows. Our fish entres, while nicely seasoned, had the mushy consistency of farmed fish. The food was too mediocre and the atmosphere too uncomfortable to justify the prices. Look elsewhere. read more

Agree with Tom C., best restaurant in the North Fork Valley. They often have local produce on their menu, and their Sunday bagels will make you weep with joy. Locals line up out the door for these, and buying less than 6 is just foolish. read more
