this is worse shop experience Ive ever experienced. the person that is supposed to handle calls, ELisabeth hangs up n then hides when I call back to discuss damage done to the interior of my car. she did the same thing when boasting about what the shop can n can't do. all they did was keep the car nearly 3 days damage the interior then lied about it n doesn't the phone. the owner who I requested a call back from is Greg minnick so I'm sending him the damage photo taken by bmw upon arrival. I don't usually write reviews, especially negative ones, but I think it's important for people to know what they're getting into with this garage. I was referred to this shop by another garage that said they specialize in foreign cars. I have a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL that needed some work, specifically on the transmission, which the other shop couldn't handle. Unfortunately, my experience here was very frustrating. 1. Poor Communication From the start, the staff didn't seem interested in listening to me. I tried explaining what was going on with my car, but the person I dealt with kept interrupting me and dismissing what I was saying. As someone who's been driving this car for years, I know its history and issues better than anyone, but she wouldn't hear me out. This was really annoying and unprofessional. 2. Unnecessary Diagnostics and Long Waits I had just done a diagnostic test at the previous garage three days earlier and already knew what needed to be done. Still, they insisted on running their own diagnostic before doing anything. I agreed, hoping it would speed things up, but instead, I ended up waiting four hours--way longer than it should take for any competent shop. When they finally gave me the results, it was the same information I had already told them. To top it off, none of the actual work I requested was done, and I was charged $239 for wasting half my day. 3. Misunderstanding Service Codes They don't seem to understand how to properly interpret service codes. For them, an error code automatically means replacing a part, instead of figuring out the root cause. For example, my car had low transmission fluid, which is clearly stated in the Mercedes-Benz manual as a common cause of the error I was seeing. Instead of addressing that simple fix, they jumped straight to recommending expensive part replacements. This felt either like a lack of knowledge or an attempt to upsell unnecessary work. 4. Overpriced Estimates Their estimates were ridiculously high. For example, they quoted nearly $2,000 to replace spark plugs--a routine service that shouldn't cost anywhere near that much. For a car with 185,000 miles, I'm not trying to get it to perfect condition, so such pricing was completely unreasonable. 5. All-or-Nothing Service Policy They also have this strange policy where you have to agree to everything they recommend before they'll do anything. Even though I only needed specific work done, they wanted me to redo recent maintenance I'd already had done at another shop, like oil changes and filter replacements. Easy to make an appointment and you can get an appointment fairly quickly. Good customer service. Regularly keep you in the loop via text and provide photos of everything that needs work. Work is done promptly. I had quite a bit of work done and got my car back the next day. My only issue is the pricing. Definitely on the high side - almost dealership rates. They do not break down the repair cost into labor and parts it's just a flat charge. I got my brake lines changed by another shop for 1/4 what Flying Dog quoted. read more

Whem any service is offered to you and you ask for a parts and labor break down, you should always get it. I was quoted almost 6000$ for a head and timing belt job on a Subaru. i asked for a breakdown of that job knowing the labor for one is kinda canceled by the other, they are done at the same time, I was told that it is impossible to get me a parts and labor list. thats shady. they also left someone else keys in my car that I return on my own time to not inconvenience them followed by a wheel that came lose on the highway. I also did not like the snarky comment on the quote about a car I just purchased and how the last owner put the exhaust together, unprofessional. I asked for the owner to call me so we could make this right, no call was revived. never pay for work that you can't see exactly What your paying for. Also if the service writer knows nothing about cars it makes everything harder. no one was able to answer my questions. I paid 150 for all that and a list of things needed that matched the list I made myself. all I needed was a quote for a head job not a safety inspection for 150 so my opinion, they can't prove What your paying for, and the people you talk to have no clue how to answer your questions. my money is to valuable to me I will not spend it here. ask for your bill in writing, be sure they are not stacking hours up too. I'm getting the head job done with the belt and more for 2800. read more

Took my daughter's car here and am so glad we did. They were great at explaining the problem-even showing pictures of it with notes of what they found and tests they did. Repairs were done pretty quickly, and done right as the car runs better than ever. Used to enjoy going to flying dog, and would recommend it to friends.. as of late 2022-present the service has been awful. The receptionist has given snarky remarks every time I've called the last couple of years. Mind you flying dog worked on my car for 6+ months and I was very patient with them as the guy who was working on my engine quit. I went to flying dog for an oil change after all that and it was after hours, couldn't seem to understand where i actually drop my keys off into a drop box. So the snotty remarks came again after missing my 1st ever appointment that i tried to drop my car off to, they had my car for 6 months.. whoever is running the office needs needs some customer service training. read more

Our go-to garage in Kzoo, hands down. Amazing service - fast, friendly, reliable, done right the first time and for a reasonable rate. I've even been advised when it's better for me (for cost) to take my car elsewhere for something specialized! These folks are the best. Also, as the name would suggest: dog-friendly for customers! I wanted to love them. I love dogs, I love cars, I love flying and I love the idea of a Flying Dog, however, I have come to understand that this place is a high end, high performance, Concours quality place. If you have super deep pockets and you're not sure where you can spend some money, this is a good place to do it. I've never had them do any actual work as far as replacing components, but I did have them do two diagnostics for me (for $225). Their conclusion was that I needed to spend over 5k and that it really wasn't worth doing based on the value of the car. Seeing as I paid $500 for it, I was not particularly keen to spend 5000 more to get it fixed with them. I checked around and found a kid who has his own garage and also works for a local new car dealer. He did the alternator for $200, (they wanted five). He fixed the leaky line between steering rack and the steering pump. That was $300. The part didn't exist anymore and he had to have it made for $150 of that $300, (Flying Dog wanted to charge me $1600 to fix the steering). They also told me that my brand new battery was dead even though I bought it and put it in the car to drive to their place. Maybe that's on AutoZone. I will never know. AutoZone gave me a new battery. Checking over their receipt and their list of diagnostics performed, I also see that they didn't say anything about my transmission or my air-conditioning which were two areas of interest. They also mentioned that the car was very rusty in the frame when in fact there are a few spots of light surface rust near the front that were not Zeibarted, The rest of it is solid as a rock and completely free of rust. They knew that I was a musician and that I only paid $500 for my Mitsubishi 3000 GTSL, and maybe they are right. Maybe I should've replaced everything they told me to replace with brand new OEM stuff, but I just bought a new daily driver and my wife's car has a few issues to take care of and I don't have an extra $5000 to just throw down the toilet. Especially for a $500 car that needs a paint job! Plus the fact that it's just a summer driver that I'm going to give to my kid when he turns 16... So that should give you an idea of what to expect from this place. Their idea of fixing something is to completely replace it with a brand new OEM part if possible. There's nothing wrong with that if you have a very valuable car like a Mercedes, Ferrari or an Aston Martin or some really fancy car that you paid 100,000 or 1000,00 for and you have a lot of extra money left over and you feel like spending it, then this is the place to go. I'm not surprised that they are this expensive if they are so good and they do Concours restoration of the cars that they work on, but I did explain my financial situation upfront and that I was trying to keep this on the cheap and they still wanted five grand. In their defense, Brooke, the receptionist mentioned that I might be getting upside down with the car if I spent that much. I mentioned that I would probably getting the work done somewhere else and they were very cool with that, So props to them. I agree. That's why I went to my new buddy who did it for 500 instead of 5000+. Also, my new mechanic pointed out that he doesn't charge for diagnostics. He fixes cars. The reason for the five stars is that I feel like I was getting played a little bit. "The ashtray is full, we need to replace the engine - now!" that's a little over the top, but that's a little bit how I felt also. If you have a new car - a new old car - and you have no idea how cars run or what makes them go and you need to find out some stuff, they might be your best bet - especially if they need to read a code on some electronics. That's the kind of thing I wouldn't hand off to a kid that's just starting out, but $500 for an alternator is a lot of money and $1600 for a power steering rack (that was fine along with the power steering pump...) I just feel that they completely got it wrong and they charge me for it on top of that and then I went and I got both things done for $500, read more

My father bought a 1958 Mercedes 190sl in 1994. He rebuilt the engine and restored the rest. He was never able to find a mechanic that could make it run correctly... he was towed often. When I took over ownership in September of 2013 I had the same issues. I drove it 8 times and was towed to a garage three times. FlyingDog was recommended to me by a good friend. Their time, effort, and expertise has made my 190 a very happy auto. I've put over 2,000 miles on it this summer (I did have to be towed once, but that was simple wear and tear on the 20 year old distributor points - fixed and back on the road in just a few days). They were stacked to the brim with cars in their service department but somehow they were able to take care of my time sensitive predicament as a top priority.
