So when I ordered from JoJo's while vacationing in Daytona Beach, my expectations were... let's just say cautiously pessimistic. Beach town pizza has burned me before. Chicago-esque places outside of Chicago have broken my heart more times than I care to admit. I was not prepared for what happened next. The woman on the phone was an absolute delight -- warm, upfront, and honest that the kitchen was slammed and our order would be about 50 minutes. No problem. We're in vacation mode. Island time. We'll take a walk on the beach and meet you there. We ordered a large thin crust, a big Italian beef wet/sweet with a side of jus, and a personal deep dish for good measure. When we arrived for pickup, the place was hopping -- buzzing with energy and the kind of vibe that makes you wish you'd planned to eat in. And then we tasted the food. Holy. Cow. This is the best Chicago-style pizza and Italian beef I have ever had outside of Chicago -- and I'll go further than that -- it's better than places I've actually eaten in Chicago. The thin crust was perfect. The beef was phenomenal. The deep dish? Don't even get me started. JoJo's didn't just meet the bar. They cleared it completely. We will absolutely be ordering again on our next trip to Daytona. Consider this a standing reservation.

For those of you who still aren't aware of this place, they are 201 Commonwealth, off of Ridgewood or US1, back in the inside corner across from The Turn. So the other night, Janie Skidmore Panasis had come home from Janie's Boutique where she has been outfitting the ladies of Florida in their fancy attire, and she was hungry for some pizza. So off we went, and the place was hopping. I wonder how many pizzas they end up serving on a given day, but during the 45 mins we were there, they had at least 10 door dash pickups. We ordered our usual which was the 16 inch "cracker crust" thin and crispy with pepperoni and mushrooms (their mushrooms are fresh, not canned) and also asked for it well done so you can taste the crispness of the crust and the slightly charred cheese and pepperoni. Wow, Joe Kielbasa you are an artist of the pizza world! You guys make other great food too. The pizza is far and away my personal favorite but the Italian beef, Chicago dogs, the meatball parm Sammie and the egg rolls are awesome too. Service was exceptional and very attentive.

We all know that the service experience, when top notch, enhances the experience. - the uniqueness of the concept - is this a place, where visiting guests would love? So I have to admit that I am embarrassed that last night was my first time to go to BISTRO 424 with my partner in crime, fellow foodie, and lovely amazing wife Janie Skidmore Panasis who owns Janie's Boutique! We kept looking at each other and asking "how have we missed this place?" First off, the menu is colossal, and varied, but in our opinion, this is a bistro that has influences from Italy, and Germany or Poland maybe. The hostess was great and found us a table inside. Our server was Sydney and she was awesome. I ordered the lasagna ($20) and Janie ordered the eggplant Parmesan sandwich ($16) and both came with a side salad and we ordered with their popular lemon vinaigrette. The salads were huge, and fresh and the dressing tasted homemade and was perfect. Clean and crisp. Janie loved her sandwich and it was so much that she took half home. The lasagna...OMG, I asked the server to find out if they cooked it in the pizza oven, as it was presented as if it came out of a very hot cooking appliance. It turns out it did go in with the pizzas, and so the cheese on top was very lightly charred and sooo good. The combination of sausage and beef in the lasagna was complex and seasoned perfectly. The pasta and the cheese combined with the meat and Parmesan really set this dish off. Served steaming hot. This was the best lasagna that I have ever had. We will definitely be back. There were a number of items we want to try. Great job Bistro 424!!

It was cold by Florida standards, so we sat inside at a high-top table, where the cheap industrial metal stools need to be replaced with something more comfortable. We ordered dinner with very mixed results: Cobb salad: The fried shallots were beautiful, nice balance of ingredients. (Happiness) Crab stuffed mahi: Another hit. Pistachio crusted salmon. Meh- wouldn't order again. Chicken parmesan. An absolute disaster. The chicken was so severely overcooked to be inedible. The bread crumb crust was blackened to the point of being a solid, impenetrable shield. Had to search out the server to get her attention, and sent the meal back. She asked if I wanted something else, but I asked for another chicken parm cooked properly. It took a while, and I got another try at the chicken - still overcooked, still blackened, but this attempt was somewhat edible. I am not a fussy diner. I rarely send food back to the kitchen. On the rare occasion I have a problem and send something back, someone from the management team wanders by and inquires about the dining experience. That didn't happen at Bistro 424, leaving this review space as the only way to inform management of the significant problems in the kitchen. Final rating: two stars. Some of the food is excellent, but there are severe quality control issues when inedible food is allowed to leave the kitchen. Your experience will vary.

I was excited to go in and get a fresh hot pastrami sandwich, expecting something hearty and satisfying. Unfortunately, I left pretty disappointed. The biggest issue was the size of the sandwich. For the price, I honestly couldn't believe how small it was -- it was basically the size of a hot dog bun and felt more like a kid's meal than a full sandwich. That alone completely threw me off. The food may have had decent flavor, but once you feel like you overpaid for such a tiny portion, it honestly ruins the overall experience. I went in expecting a real deli-style pastrami sandwich and left feeling underwhelmed and still hungry. Maybe other menu items are better, but based on my experience, the portion size just didn't justify the price. Staff people were very welcoming.

This is a mobile order so I can't comment on the restaurant but all of the food was well packaged and with appropriate utensils in the delivery bag. I ordered a Pastrami Reuben and a Garden Salad. To start, the garden salad was ok. It's shredded iceberg with chopped provolone, cucumbers and olives. It also has sliced onions and green peppers with a smattering of olives, chopped banana peppers and a couple of tomato slices. I topped it with Larry's Italian dressing, and it was good. Now the Reuben was very good. I'm not a huge fan of rye, but this was very subtle. It had a decent portion of pastrami. The dressing and sauerkraut were good, and I opted for provolone instead of Swiss cheese. All in all a very filling sandwich which fulfilled my craving for pastrami. I'll order from here again... maybe not a salad but I'd like to try the corned beef. And they do have other sandwiches on the menu...

We had company over, and the original plan was our classic "let's see what's hiding in the freezer and pretend it was intentional" dinner strategy. Unfortunately, reality set in. My wife was exhausted, and I have to admit something publicly: I'm only a competent cook under two conditions--ample prep time and my beloved Instant Pot. Remove either of those variables and my culinary skills quickly resemble a survival cooking show. I wasn't quite ready to debut my "experimental freezer casserole surprise" for guests. So the family meeting began. Chinese food? Nope--someone just had it. Pizza? Also no--apparently that was last night's adventure. Burgers? Absolutely not. One of the teens dramatically declared, "Not today, Satan." Then, out of nowhere, a teenager casually drops a suggestion that stopped the room: "Barbecue from a place called Crave." Barbecue? Interesting. But... none of us had ever heard of this place. Naturally, the next question was: Where is it? And that's when the real twist arrived. Apparently Crave Hot Dogs & BBQ is inside Walmart Supercenter. Yes. Inside Walmart. At this point I was convinced the teenager had been scrolling too much TikTok. A barbecue restaurant... in Walmart? I had to see this with my own eyes. So off we went. Sure enough, tucked right inside the store was this little barbecue spot that looked like it had no business being that good. The smell alone should have been illegal to pump into a retail environment. You walk in expecting to buy paper towels and leave smelling like you just visited a smokehouse in Texas. And the food? Surprisingly fantastic. The barbecue had that smoky flavor that makes you pause mid-bite and say, "Okay... hold on... this is actually really good." The portions were generous, the menu had plenty of options, and somehow the whole thing managed to feel both fast and freshly made. The real miracle of the evening was that everyone--kids, guests, and the exhausted adults--walked away happy and full. No experimental freezer meals were required, and my reputation as a "competent host" lived to see another day. Final verdict: If someone tells you there's legit barbecue inside Walmart, don't argue--go investigate. You might walk in skeptical, but you'll probably walk out full, impressed, and wondering how you discovered a hidden barbecue joint in the same place you buy laundry detergent.

So glad we did. The concept is very Chipotle-style, but for Greek food. You walk down the line and build your meal exactly how you want it: * Choose a base (pita, greens, fries, or rice) * Pick your protein (I went with the traditional gyro; my husband chose the honey balsamic chicken -- and WOW. It was so good I'm ordering that next time.) * Add toppings * Scoop on hummus and feta dips * Finish with sauces Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. My gyro had that classic savory richness you expect, but the honey balsamic chicken completely stole the show -- tender with a sweet-tangy depth that balanced beautifully with the toppings. The space is casual with simple metal seating inside and outside. No table service -- you order at the line and seat yourself -- which makes it easy for a relaxed, relaxed dinner. The staff was especially helpful when we mentioned it was our first time, patiently walking us through options without rushing us. Our total was $40.49 for two people, which felt very reasonable for the portion sizes and quality. We left full and genuinely impressed. They do offer dessert options, but we were too stuffed to try them this round. Fresh, flavorful, customizable, and officially added to our rotation. We'll definitely be back.
