Just stopped by here today after finishing all my finals and the owner (I think it was?) was so nice and friendly. He gave me extra donuts and donut holes which was so kind. The donut holes were so good! I never had good ones until now. The glazed part really melts in your mouth. As for the donuts, they smell and taste amazing. Truly a Davis institution. I have definitely woken up early just to come here and get first pick at freshly made warm donuts. It always makes my day when these bad boys show up in the break room. I've had the maple bars, boston creme donuts, donut holes, chocolate donuts, etc. They make their presence known and don't last long when placed in the break room. Definitely would recommend this place, but you should try to get here before noon. Give them a try, definitely worth waking up early. read more

There is NOTHING special about this donut shop. I am not saying that they are bad, they are OK, but they do not offer anything that makes you feel like your purchase was worth the price. They are one of the most expensive donut shops I've ever seen (on par with something you'd expect from inside an airport) and definitely do NOT reflect the quality or options. If you are craving donuts in Davis, this is a place you MUST check out! First off, right when I entered, the worker was so sweet and welcoming. It was 8 in the morning, and he was so enthusiastic! I felt as if his energy was rubbing off on me. I overheard him talking to the customer in front of him, and she was talking about how she really wanted to try to coconut donut and would come back for it. And the worker literally just gave it to them for free! So sweet!! I have been here once already, but I got a really basic donut. So I just asked the worker what his favorites were, and I would get those. Keep in mind, I am not a picky eater. I can eat almost anything! He was so happy and suggested I got the Ube and Coconut donut. To top it all off, he gave me a blueberry donut on the house! Literally made my day. About the donuts, the ube donut was DELICIOUS. The Ube flavor really shines, and the donut is so soft. The coconut donut is my FAVORITE. The sugar coating with coconut flakes - mmm so yummy! I think the donut of the coconut is ube too, which is amazing because the ube donut is already stellar on its own. The coconut coating just brings it to another level! Lastly, for the blueberry donut, it's more dense than the other two donuts. It's glazed on the outside of it too. I really like blueberries, so I really liked it. I just went here 30 mins ago, and I rushed to write this review because of how happy I am about my experience. Did I just gobble up three donuts so quickly? Yes! Am I coming back? This seems like a pretty old school place. Like, they make a certain amount, and only have that until it sells out. I'm familiar with some bagel places that operate like that. The person attending was super friendly and helpful. There were a bunch of senior citizen regulars that she was sweet to before. The only yeast ones that were left around 10:30 when I came were the donut holes. Of the cake donuts, there were ube donuts and a vegan donut left. I like that they had donut holes. I really wanted to like this place as I love ube donuts and Vietnamese coffee but I had such a rude experience supporting this small business that I would much rather go to a chain next time. I was the first customer at 5:30 am and curious about the different flavor of donuts that weren't labeled in which (I assume the owner) felt was getting annoyed and even scoffed at my question. He did a terrible job of explaining the flavors and I came home with double the ube donuts because he said one was coconut flavored but it was just ube with coconut on top. There was a light brown color that I asked what flavor it was and he scoffed saying it was chocolate insinuating it was a dumb question and later added or it could be maple..lol. I knew it wasn't chocolate but even then the interaction was rude. Vietnamese coffee was also not available at opening time which was a huge bummer being that 5:30 am I mainly came for the coffee. Went in for the first time in probably 15+ years. This place has changed hands about half a dozen times or more since the original owners. Gentleman running show was friendly and social. Donuts were awesome. Nostalgia is one of life's greatest perks so I am glad they have stuck around and kept the name. I can recall the original shop being across from Safeway at the front of the mall. I loved eating a donut and then walking across the way to play a few arcade games which were set up at the opening of the grocery store. Not sure if we got an over fried batch. The maple doughnut was perfect. Soft and light and just sweet enough to satisfy one's sweet tooth, but not over the top sweet that you'd feel super guilty.
