Service was unresponsive and not available at guest service. Went to self check out and was bothered by worker standing directly behind me and I was paying. The associate was a Frail old lady with long gray hair, didn't get her name but she'll make herself known when you see her. Service isn't needed as a Student in Davis, get it together. Need to mention I asked the same associate who was standing directly behind me if I could take a stack of newspaper ads for my process of moving and she said no. There is no law or policy that prohibits customers to the newspapers ads as I asked beforehand knowing that I would need a stack. read more

Went there after a year and was surprised to see its deterioration. Vegetables not fresh and saw mold in bagged lemons. Prices of most of items were much higher than other grocery stores. Bakery tables have banner of advertised sale price with several boxes of baked goods. When checked out all regular prices were scanned and when asked old lady at customer service she said these are not on sale though those boxes were kept in front of sale desk. read more

I used to like shopping here maybe as recently as four years ago. Since then I've discovered Trader Joe's, which I like much more. But Safeway is still a place I can buy economy-size versions of a number of staples. So after a few years I went back there. The store is much worse than it has ever been. It is almost impossible to find an employee anywhere, and when I did finally find one, they tried to avoid helping me by giving me instructions how to walk to the other end of the store and speak to someone else. When I pleaded with them to help me, they walked five feet to a store phone and *they* couldn't even find the person they were sending me to. To make matters worse, the cash register charged me considerably more than the price on the shelf. This is fraud, but they know that it's too much trouble for most people to pursue it. read more

We came in today and had a smooth shopping experience overall...we found everything we needed. However, our interaction at checkout was a bit disappointing. Mayra, our bagger, had an unwelcoming tone and walked away during the bagging process. A minute later, someone else came over and asked if the items being scanned were ours. We confirmed, and they helped finish bagging. Meanwhile, the poor gentleman finishing up the bagging was still bagging after our transaction ended because Mayra was busy walking off to look at the screen at self check with no one there and remove a receipt then comes back when he's bagging and asks if he's got it? Very odd experience. We just wanted to share this feedback, as it made the checkout experience feel disorganized and a little uncomfortable... based on recent reviews it seems like bad customer service is the norm here. I would rate this zero stars if I could. I don't think I've ever gone into this Safeway and left happier than I came in. first I witnessed a lady be racist towards an Asian student. then, my friend and I were trying to check out, and there were clearly two lines in aisle, six and seven for the self checkout that was halfway empty. So after waiting behind three people, we went to self check out after this girl announced it was open. So we went to the open self checkout and she accused us of not waiting in line. I calmly explained that there were two lines formed and she told me only aisle 7 counted as the real line, which was ridiculous because it was half empty and we had already waited in a line that was moving the times better without this girl "managing it" . She was rude af and seemed pretty young like how you are gonna be this nasty and rude working at Safeway. Like don't work a customer service if have the attitude of a skunk. This is the second time on a Safeway delivery that my most expensive items were not delivered. It's obvious that the driver is keeping the items. Not only were they not delivered, but I received 2 pints of Haagen Daaz ice cream instead! What?! I didn't order these. There goes my dinner. Both times I didn't receive a receipt either. I've called each time ASAP and each time they will refund the cost of what was not delivered in 3 to 5 days. So for 3-5 days you have my money and I don't have my groceries. Great, I have COVID, now what do I eat for dinner? Ice Cream? I also wrote to their headquarters in Phoenix requesting that they refund me the balance of the cost of my Fresh Pass account (annual free delivery for $99.00), as I will no longer be using Safeway. Continues to be a difficult place to shop. Tags in wrong places, staff talking and laughing in a group at the front, now batteries are locked up so you have to get help. Walk up and they don't even address you right away. Tell me I should look closer at tags, while the top shelf where items were I have to climb to reach much less read. What's going on with Safeway?! I go every day to shop and there's no carts! Bought bread on the 28 of July next day it was expired. Bought milk A2 has long shelf life my daughter opened it the same day it was curdled. Yesterday's bought cheese and it's has mold! Bought cut up fruits mold the next day. Ugh! We usually do not shop at this Safeway because finding a parking space can be difficult and the store always feels crowded but we were in the area after visiting Peet's and decided to check on a couple of items that had been out of stock for weeks at the south Davis Safeway. This Safeway had plenty of the items in stock and we were able to use the Self Check Out and were on our way. read more

This store is great. I love to run in on my lunch break when I work in the Davis office. The deli always has something yummy. I can always find a deal in the store. People are nice and the lines move pretty quick for being lunch time. Oh and I can get Starbucks here too YAY !!! I hope they bring the soup bowls back. Worst customer service I have received in over 15 years. I've been shopping at the store and many other of course, but there was a person at the health check area seems very approachable to ask a simple question which was to have the meat department called after waiting many minutes no big deal people get busy and I understand. I self checked myself to make sure I wasn't feeling as though I was rushing and I wasn't when I asked a simple question, if he could get somebody to the meat department, not only did he not look at me he didn't respond, when he started to walk away, I asked him again and he said I already called somebody. I was mostly taken back by the way he said it and the way he looked at me once again. I self checked myself and recognized. This Safeway is in a nice area and the parking lot is well lit and feels safe at night (I am a young woman, so this is pretty important to me). However, I am disappointed that this Safeway does not carry a majority of the "store" brand products (Signature Select, O organic, etc). read more

Chain stores don't get much love in this town but this is where I get most of my grocery in Davis. I typically come in the morning and appreciate the services from the regular crew. Thanks to Debbie for searching and finding my lost cell phone in the store. Spending a few minutes with the weekly circular can save big. There is usually a good deal on 2 pound bags of frozen prawns changing size of the prawns from week to week. The quality of their house brand, Signature Select, is consistently good. They do highlight local products when possible. This store is more than adequate for non this, non that everyday grocery. read more

I recently left a previous review about the West Covell Safeway selling outdated items. Back then I had 3 experiences purchasing their Suriname artificial crab flakes that were outdated twice and once where it was due to outdate on 2 days. Today I shop there because I only had a couple of things to purchas. One was shredded cheddar cheese. The first one I picked up documented "best used by January 10th". Today is February 20th. Finally found one that outdated a month later. Just be aware that you should check outdates when shopping at the West Covell site. read more

Lines are always long and there are too few cashiers, but while few the cashiers are always nice. I mostly come here for the in-store Wells Fargo mini-bank and ATMs. They also have a Coinstar machine. Safeway stocks a few things that CVS does not carry: Ivory dish soap and Mr. Clean rubber gloves. Random, but these are things I've used for years. Aside from picking up a handful of specific items or hot deals, I do my grocery shopping elsewhere. read more

I have come to this Safeway here and there over the past 7 years. This Safeway appears to be older and is small compared to other Safeway stores that I visit. I went here during the weekend and didn't have a good experience. Mainly because of the customer service. I went to the deli to get some sliced meat and the employee there acted like she was frustrated that she had two customers to help. She said it was just her at the counter, which I can understand, but she only had two customers. Then there was a guy stocking in the produce area that I asked for help. He did help me, but he seemed frustrated that I asked him a question. Don't get me wrong, I can imagine times are tough if this particular Safeway is understaffed, but employees shouldn't let their frustrations show to customers. With that said, our cashier was nice and helpful, so it's not all the employees. Some of the employees at this store are nice and helpful. I don't think I will goto this particular Safeway anymore even though it's much closer. I'll start going to the other Safeway in Davis and see if it's better. read more

Standard Safeway, but after two-plus years I have never gone in and had hand-baskets be available. Perhaps they prefer we get carts, but I wish this was something they could be a bit on top of. They've expanded their vegetarian/vegan options which is nice and if you come in the middle of the week you can find some nice manager's special discounts. I usually come here for the 7$ meal combo that allows you to pick 1 entree and two sides... unfortunately one of their employees (a young Caucasian woman) thought this was sufficient amount of food for that price. See photo attached. It seems that every time I come to this location I receive less and less food than the time before. Really don't like writing bad reviews however I know that various students appreciate good meals at a decent price, so I would suggest going to the Safeway on the other side of davis. Been shopping here for a while as I am a UCD student. The understaffing is IMMENSE. Usually only 1-2 registers open at a time and it's very difficult to find an employee for help. Most of the employees you can tell are doing their best in terms of the situation but there is this one employee that is AWFUL. I've had her as my cashier multiple times and she is the slowest cashier I have ever encountered. A few weeks ago, my boyfriend went to buy alcohol (he is 21) and she forgot to ID him. This could've been a huge liability issue for Safeway! Recently, my boyfriend and I went grocery shopping and once again, he purchased alcohol but she refused to sell it to us because I wasn't able to provide ID (he was the one paying and buying the groceries, I was just standing over to the side). We tell her we've never run into this issue before and she just stands there with this blank look in her face. After paying, we check the receipt and believe or not, we were charged for the alcohol! Even though she said she could not sell it to us? So we tell her this and ask if we can take it and she looks all confused and says all snotty "yeah." Wtf?? Get it together! I wish I knew the name of this employee because such incompetence should not be tolerated. Train your employees better or hire more competent ones. read more

I've been shopping here lately and its pretty good. They have their signs up to wear masks and such, the employees seem to do good about that. However, not all shoppers do. I believe they should have more employees on shift so some can walk the store on rounds to make sure shoppers are using their masks at all times. I've walked in and spotted over half the customers blatantly disrespecting policy and taking their mask below the nose and even worse: some just pull it all the way off. They should kick those people out of the store so it stays safe for those of us listening to rules and regulations. It would put the rest of us at ease too, since we all have family we care for and don't want to catch COVID because of an anti-masker, or worse, a KAREN, in the store. I had the strangest experience with an employee here. We went back and forth with the same question and answer for about five minutes, with pauses for the employee to think a little before asking the exact same question again. He understood what I was asking for and just kept confirming it over and over again. Finally she called another employee over and he understood immediately, gave me precise directions to the item with no problem. I think she might have been a UCD student in the middle of mid-terms or finals and her brain was just burnt out. I love that Safeway is carrying more and more organic items and it is definitely a helpful option for when the Co-Op and Trader Joe's have closed for the evening. read more
