I found this place on TikTok and decided to stop by. They have a pretty good size parking lot. I noticed they had tables and people were drinking coffee outside. The place is very open and clean. They were fully stocked. I loved that they had a ton of vegan and vegetarian options. There was a bakery with amazing pastries. They had a lot of coffee creamers. There is a lot of healthy pre made food. I pitched some pre made food and some drinks. They had the most amazing soaps. We got an oatmeal one that was amazing. Stopped in during our road trip in hopes of getting something from the hot food grab and go but the hot food was super limited (burritos) and upon reading the ingredients we were shocked to see seed oils in them. They had sandwiches but we didn't want those either because we're doing gluten/processed food free. We looked at their baked goods ingredients for fun and again were shocked to see even the cinnamon buns had high fructose corn syrup and other terrible ingredients. Really surprising and unusual for a co-op. Other than that the rest of the store is big and actually very nice. They have a great personal care product section and even have a cute greeting card section. I thought the coconut water selection was pretty limited though. Besides the hot food & baked goods area - it's definitely a nice store. I like that they display the current number of members they have. So, I think with the reviews I have seen that if your local I can see the mixture in the star rating however for us visitors I think we have a more positive experience at this establishment. Let me start by saying that along our road trip up the PCH we ran into at least 3 "COLLEGE TOWNS" and this Co-op was my favorite stop of the 3 establishments we visited. I am a huge fan of small, quaint college towns and this establishment fits it to a tee. I loved all the VEGAN options they had, the deli bar was awesome, and the hot bar had a lot of variety. The Organic and bulk items were also plentiful. My wife found some great Formaggi cheese for a great price. I don't go to the Davis Co-op often and i'm usually happy to see vegan items that I had not seen before. There was a Mango Black Bean Burrito wrapped in the hot foods section and I was surprised. I thought it was pretty good. I'm also surprised to find Coke (or was it Pepsi?) there.. singles in the cold beverage case. I thought high fructose was a no-no. Which makes me think-- Davis Co-op, what's going on? I'm not really a fan of their housemade foods. They have that packed and available in a cold case. I love a co-op. Rainbow Grocery is my favorite, but it's far. I usually go to the sac co-op because it's closer to my house than this one. But the sac co-op doesn't have organic vital wheat gluten in bulk like rainbow grocery does. So, I called the Davis co-op to see if they had it. They said they didn't have it in bulk, but that they had in grocery. I double checked again that it was organic and they said yes. So, I drove almost an hour to go there, and they didn't have organic vital wheat gluten. They even checked the computer and said they've never had it. Cool cool cool. read more

While I typically forget that we have this coop gem in town, when I do come here, they generally have what I need. Prices can be high, but you get a member discount. Bulk foods can be very sustainable since you purchase only what you need. Service is friendly and ambiance decent for a grocery store. read more

I've just had the worst experience at Davis Co-op. I ordered a basic mocha with almond milk and a sandwich. After shopping for fifteen mintues and checking out I went back to the counter. The large mocha felt a little light when I picked it up. I looked inside and it was less than 3/4 filled. I asked the guy behind the counter why and he said, " OH, the milk is frozen". Then I inquired about my sandwich and I was sent to another guy who didn't know and didn't check, even though he was behind the counter. Went back to Mocha Man, and his reply was, there's only me and the guy in the back.You can go to customer service. I did get customer service from the nicest gentleman. He did give me a refund. Free coffee. However, as I took a sip as I drove away, it was disgusting. Do better...it was ridiculous. Retrain..do something. read more

Love the co-op, we are members. They have a great selection of organic product and fresh made sandwiches. Love the cooking classes too.

Crispy mushroom sandwich was so tasty. A bit salty but lots of flavor. It nice that they gave so many creative options. You can still get the classics too. I just miss the mermaid sushi from years ago from the husband and wife team. Smoothies can be a bit inconsistent, but real fruit has different sweet/tart levels, so I suppose that's expected. read more

7/2/2023: Oh--I'm having a sweet tooth attack~I must purchase organic Atulfo mangos and organic gummy worms plus, I desperately needed a TMI pit stop as well! Therefore, I literally veered off Highway 80 in order, making a beeline for Davis Food Co-Op; HOWEVER, the City Of Davis had so many streets under construction, there were a plethora of street detours before arriving at Davis Food Co-Op--Ooooof! Ahhhhh~I almost didn't make my pit stop at Davis Food Co-Op . . . So, afterwards, I felt sooo much better because now, I can shop for organic Atulfo mangos and organic gummy worms~lol--without having a "bladder fountain" accident. Backstory: When my First-Born Daughter attended UC Davis, i.e., 2016 until, 2020, she drove me visiting Davis Food Co-Op for lunch for the first time which I was thoroughly impressed with everything Davis Food Co-Op sells. BTW: I just love Davis Food Co-Op's Deli and Coffee Bar. Everything at the Deli are made fresh daily and all are organic as well. The Baklava, all of the Deli's pastries, and the organic coffee served are ALL my favorite foods I love inhaling. The food coop has a lot of items that I cant get anywhere else and its so very pretty out front with all the birds and trees. The evening clerks make me feel uncomfortable. One of the young clerks there stares at me in a way that makes me uncomfortable when I go through her line and I feel like they tell jokes about customers. read more

I have been very impressed with he Davis Food Co-op as of late! While I most often visit in search of fancy new alcoholic beverages to try (my favorite so far is honey mead), I have found that the Co-op really has your back in a lot of other ways too. Just the other week I was in quick need of a new toothbrush and, to my surprise, the Co-op didn't only have some they had a whole selection - and they were a really nice quality too. The whole thing sort of opened my eyes to all the parts of the store that I just glanced over before. They have organic hair products, fancy soaps, they even sell cute little stickers that I think are just the bee's knees. I've been back a handful of times sense and I always seem to find something new. And the staff in my experience are super friendly and helpful! It's really just overall a great store and I really believe it's unfortunate that it took me needing a toothbrush to teach me that. read more

Nice small gem in Davis that includes a nice deli and pre-made goods for folks. It is a smaller version of the Sacramento co-op. I got some gluten free donuts here for $6 which were so on point and very filling and good. I highly recommend. They have a lot of sales on organic skincare and whatnot. Went in for a bite and bought a breakfast burrito from under the heat lamp. It was nuclear hot from sitting there for 5 hours as I saw on the fine print on the label it was made at 7:09 AM. Since I touched it to pick it up I felt bad to put it back since it's the pandemic. It's been on the heating surface for so long that the bottom was scorched and hardened and the top is waterlogged and soggy. They should not sell a 5 hour old breakfast burrito. I could have gone back to get a refund of my $6.13 after tax. Instead I hope this review will change their policy for selling this item for a shorter period of time after production. Five hours is too long. Also, why are the people at the check stand so slow? I've noticed this all 5 times I've been here. read more

Came here specifically looking for Black Seed Oil as it seemed like the only place around who would have a natural medicine section and they did! I shopped around and was happy to see it had all of my son's favorite healthy and gluten free snacks. They also had a decent organic produce section, a little coffee counter, some healthy takeaway lunches, and a giant alcohol section. Everything seemed clean and the cashier made a few jokes :) overall good experience. I will come here every time I am in Davis! read more

TERRIBLE customer service. I came in with a few of my friends. We were unaware that we couldn't mix ingredients in each brown bag because there was no sign or explanation anywhere explaining this rule. When we went to the register, the cashier gave us a lot of attitude because we didn't know this rule. They didn't know how to charge us, because we had multiple ingredients in each bag, and they all had different prices. She stared at us, dumbfounded, unsure of what to do. She proceeded to ask her coworker, and he also didn't know. They made us feel so dumb. I then had to take charge and find a solution, because, clearly, they don't know how to handle a simple mistake. I came up with the solution for them to just charge us the most expensive item. They made it a huge deal and made me and my other friends feel so embarrassed, when they could have been nice about it. This happened on April 5th, around 7 pm, and the two people working the registers were involved. read more

I have been searching for grass fed liver and I just need to drive out of the way to come to Davis (which i don't mind the drive) the store I normally go to did not have it the last few times I went. I called the store and Ryan on the phone assisted me with the liver. He was so kind. He had it saved for me in the back! Upon my arrival another Ryan helped me getting the liver that was put on hold. He was very nice too and he showed me where it's kept at since I've never been to this location before. Since it was my first time visiting the co op in Davis. I had to explore. My mum and i were outside looking at plants to grow in her garden. She really liked the basil. I got my mum a basil plant. Really excited! I look forward to coming back again. Wonderful Co-Op. One of the best. First hit was warm and welcoming, when before even going into the market ( after parking easily), I wove between bountiful, colorful tables set out along a large open space, a piano out for anyone to play, a bulletin board, local papers, some produce and seasonal things, and a recycling center. Saw a lot of art also; I especially like the carrot sculpture. It feels truly community focused. Inside, there is a coffee station and some to-go food. Yummy and fun-sounding cold and hot sandwiches and paninis, vegan and meaty with some unique twists to sauces and spreads. An engaging employee told me that there might soon be hot food again, breakfast and lunch. I'll definitely come back for that. Fantastic selection for grocery shopping. But the bulk area is stellar and comprehensive. Like dates? They have the the juciest, freshest ones. Oh and hey, there are coconut dates and other flavors too....wow, I was delightfully overwhelmed. Two Disappointments: 1.) Betterful blueberries were the poorest quality. The flesh was mushy and no flavor. 2.) Vegan Burrito was terrible. Overly spiced and all seasonings were raw and the burrito was unbearably dry and gritty. Won't be returning to the deli for any store made items.
