Once in a while, more specifically, once a year, I will crave donuts. As a hardened man with a discipline forged out of the hearth of Hephaestus, I am on a strict 300 Spartan-esque diet however, sometimes I reward myself with a little sugar disc. I am a man for godssake, no matter how convincing my argument is that I am the son of Zeus. Coming here with my female dog in flesh form in the passenger seat (jk jk), we strolled in only to be greeted by the smallest of owners. This is where I do my plug for going here to support independent businesses. While the owner and I assume the father watching from behind, his 3rd or 4th grade son greeted me with more zeal and candor than many past store owners. I tipped my Nixon hat in respect. I knew this would be the boy who would take reigns of the fallen Krispy Kreme chain and resurrect it from the ashes. I ordered the old fashioned chocolate and mixed glaze donuts. He carefully ensnared it with his prongs and handed it to me and told me the price. I was very impressed with his maturity. That is why this place gets 5 stars. Instead of playing with action figures or playing pogs on a concrete schoolyard, he is here helping his pops and that tugs on my heartstrings. I hope when I visit Davis when I am old and grey and he is now a full fledge adult, I pray he turns Fluffy Donuts into a house of ill repute by then, a cashcow in the city of Davis. It's lunchtime on a wednesday. I'm stumbling out of class, clutching onto the wall as if it was my newest girlfriend. I'm coming off one of the worst colds I've had in awhile, mind you, and barely being able to breathe out of your nose in a stuffy room with a stuffy professor for 2 hours is not crackin. That means, 'not cool,' for you uninitiated folk. Anyways, I'm thinking to myself, "I gotta eat. NOW." Searching through the names caught in my mind's rolodex, I remember a name that always made me smile every time I passed by it on the bus: FLUFFY DONUTS. Fast forward 10 minutes later, and here I am, inside this fine establishment known as Fluffy Donuts. It looks a little like something out of an America long since passed away, the menu employing the use of letterings, much the way you would see on your old school movie theater. And then I see them. The donuts. Ever seen the movie, "Despicable Me" ? I could almost hear Agnes screaming, "IT'S SOOO FLUFFEEHHH!" into my ears. Still, being the health conscious college student I am, I also notice that this place offers sandwiches as an alternative. Yes, I know, it's odd. But the guy who owns the place is Asian, what else would you expect? (That's a little something called a joke, for you uninitiated folk. I'm Asian, too!) I order myself a tuna sandwich, placed at the modest price of $5, and then I watch. I never thought I'd have a moment of reminiscence in a donut/sandwich shop, but watching the owner make the sandwich the exact same way I would've back home was a thing of beauty. He wraps up the sandwich, puts it in clean looking white bag, and sends me on my way. He even put in a slice of pickle to go with the sandwich! Needless to say, the sandwich was delicious. Meh. Took the kids there because of all of the reviews just raving about the place. By 9 am only a handful Of donuts to choose from. Kids ate only about half of their donuts, so I tried it and understood why. Just not that good. Won't be going back. read more

If you say you open at 5:30 am, open at 5:30am. It's after 5:30 and there is no sign of anyone, anywhere. We just went out of our way while on a tight scheduled trip to enjoy the donuts everyone else said were fantastic. Frustrating! Easily the best donuts I've ever had, especially when they're fresh in the morning!

Fluffy's is extremely unprofessional and unorganized. I have tried to order donuts from here twice. The first time, I was told the store was closing four hours early and would be unable to complete my order. The second time, I placed an order several days in advance and called to confirm the day before. I was told they would close at 3:30 (an hour and a half before their listed closing time) and arrived at 2 to pick up the donuts but the shop closed and locked up.I called the number I had been given several times but no one picked up or called me back. I found the lack of service and follow through to be extremely disappointing. Although I've heard good things about their donuts, I find myself uninterested in guessing at when they'll be open so that I may try them. read more

I'm glad they are still in business, fresh made donuts are amazing, trust me, I used to bake for Safeway. Why would you ever eat donuts in a case full of flies? Think about it! This place is clean, kind of old school padded benches and 60s tiling and donut case but its what a donut shop should be. Not those in your face Krispy Kreme junk places with tiny donuts with a fake smile. We should support local shops more! Its the locality that makes this spot attractive, I wish I could eat more donuts on my diet but that just isn't gonna happen! Haven't tried their sandwiches, maybe if they had some che, vietnamese desserts, this place may have people coming back for more. Kind of like a Huong Lan or Lee's Sandwiches vibe. For me they make the best donuts ever. More specifically, old fashioned with maple glaze. They don't make these type of donuts out in NYC. When I am in town, I try to go there at lease once for a donut and coffee. They are crispy, tasty, and don't have too much glaze on them. The glaze also is not too sweet. I also like their buttermilk donut with maple glaze and their apple fritter. They also serve Peerless coffee. Not sure where they rank on the coffee snob scale, but it's pretty good, at least the way they make it. The Italian roast black is my fave. read more

I'll be honest and say I'm not a big donut person, but upon stumbling on this little gem, I have changed my mind. I was just in town for a work trip, looking for some desserts to crave my sweet tooth and a caffeine kick. I learned that the place is under new ownership but a family business, and that is the service you will get! Welcoming smiles, warm greetings and friendly conversations. The new owner Sak knows his donuts and is trying to bring a modern look and taste to the classic hometown donut shop feel. Definitely try the Vietnamese coffee for a strong caffeine kick! My kind of coffee. They have the classic donuts - Twists, sugar, chocolate bars, apple fritters, bear claws, etc. What makes them special is the unique concoctions - the Cinnamon Toast Crunch with Nutella drizzle, an Oreo crumble, or this banana raspberry on a rise donut!! Mind blown! Now if you are a Nutella lover like I am, try any of the Nutella specialties.... heaven! The donuts are soft and moist, not overly sweet. They don't leave you with that empty air, I'm not full feeling but I just had crazy sugar. Rather they are just the right mix of cake so you feel you got a great treat without the I don't fit in my jeans now feeling. Tell me you don't relate! These large donuts would also make awesome mini birthday cakes! I know where to go for treats for my nieces and nephews, or an office event / birthday. I've been coming here for over ten years Dr BBQ pork sandwiches for lunch. Ever since the new owner has taken over, my experiences have gotten worse and worse. 9/10 there is no BBQ pork or no bread. I subbed a turkey and cheese croissant once which was missing cheese. The owner has sat in the chair for minutes at a time doing nothing while people wait at the counter. I saw the review below about the sandwiches not really being Vietnamese due to no pate, etc. I love actual Vietnamese sandwiches too but this isn't my issue, I've had plenty of BBQ pork pseudo-banh mi here that we're cheap and delicious. I love fluffys! The simplest things such as a donut can make or break my day. I usually order an old tradition and donut holes and they're usually good. Their donuts are pretty cheap for us college students. For some reason, I prefer this place over Yum Yum donuts because their donuts are really fluffy and soft. I'd recommend their ham and cheese croissant (toasted) too because they're bang for your buck for breakfast. The old guy is really nice! He's really friendly and sometimes he'll joke around with you and your friends like "oh it's finals week huh, that's why everyone is getting donuts". He tries to brighten your day with a little humor here and there and it's adorable. Free wifi and old school booths makes a nice place to study whenever finals are around. Man how fluffy their donuts are. Extremely cheap and you can expect to get your food very fast! Although it's usually only one person working, there isn't that big of a line every time I went to this place. I would order a lot of their donut holes. They just satisfy my donut cravings! Come here for the donuts, which were pretty good... but don't even think about getting a Vietnamese sandwich. Quite possibly the worst sandwich, of any kind, I've ever had. This business has good donuts however there are a few things I was unhappy with. The owners are false advertising about selling sandwiches when they haven't for a year. The owners are very stingy and greedy when it comes to a single coffee refill after I had spend almost 20$ at their shop. They refuse to use their big size boxes and prefer to stuff and smush your donuts in a very small box. Overall service was not tailored to the customer. read more

They have a large selection, and it's not that cheap crap some donut shops serve!
